"this accessory is not optimized to work for this iphone. You may expirience noise caused by cellular interferance and a decrease in cellular signal Strength.{dismiss button}"
So I get this message non stop on my 3GS since upgrading to 4.1. My phone isn't plugged into anything and there's no dust build up at the port at the bottom. Any ideas?

Heres another thread abouth this topic. Was having same problem. Went to Genius Bar and they cleaned the port for me with static free brush and compressed air. Message went away......for a bit. Still pops up from time to time. Sometimes frequently , sometimes not. A real annoying problem. Also this started after the update to 4.0. Didnt go away with 4.01 or 4.1. Phone has been used in same conditions pre and post 4.xx. Another trip to Apple store is on the horizon.

  • "This accessory is not made to work with the iPhone"

Makes sense right? Yes, that is if there's something plugged into it that the iPhone doesn't support. Problem is, there's NOTHING plugged into my phone. This message literally pops up every 5-10 seconds, and below the message it asks if I want to turn on airplane mode to reduce audio interference or something. Has anyone experienced this problem? I've heard of it being fixed by popping out the sim an popping it back in, didn't work - plugging in headphones an unplugging them, didn't work. Is my dock connector shorted? If that's the case I can just buy a new dock connector for $30 on ebay, take apart my phone an replace it an everything should be good then right?

I too struggled with the same problem after updating some 5-6 apps on miphone the same day i upgraded itunes software to 9.1.1(12)
lost volume from onboard speakers, volume control etc...
after deleting the updated apps one by one, rebooting after each loss I found this post(among dozens) and tried plugging in The SAME cable from my hours worth of troubleshooting, syncing only This time into the Wall plug...
    Instant sound! from ipod/onboard speakers.

  • This Accessory is not made to work with the iPhone (apple headset cable)

Is it just me or are others seeing this whenever you plug in the iPhone headset USB cable to your iPhone ... not sure what gives here, but it's quite annoying. I have the cable plugged into a 23" ACD USB hub (not sure if this makes a difference or not).
Considering that this headset is made to work with ONLY the iPhone and that this is the only way to hook it up and charge it I'm a bit miffed about this. I was kind of let down the quality of the headset to start with (everyone says it sounds like I'm stuck down a well when talking to them) and to top it off this message appears every time I plug things in to charge them up.
Is this a new issue with the 2.2 firmware update, or is this a more wide spread issue? Having to tell it every time not to put my phone into airplane mode is quite annoying :/ Not sure why there would be such an issue with an Apple cable made specifically for this task plugged into an Apple monitor.

    Hi Allan
Thanks for the response. Connected directly to the front of my Mac Pro is didn't display that message. The funny thing is that when I moved it back to the ACD USB port I no longer got this message (for now, it's been hit and miss in the recent past as well).
Why it makes a difference on the ACD ports I don't know, according to the USB 2.0 spec there should be zero difference in connecting to a hub vs. directly to a port on the computer unless the hub is not up to spec and I have no issues using any other devices at all on the USB ports on my 2 ACD's. Smells like a bug to me. It's also hit and miss that the headset shows as charging or not on the iPhone. I just tested it with the Mac Pro front plug and had the same issue. It took 4 times unplugging and replugging until the iPhone knew it had a headset attached to it (which included a reboot of the iPhone to make sure the issue wasn't on that side). All the connectors are clean -- the headset and cable are < 1 week old. The iPhone I just took a good look and and for good measure even blew it out with some compressed air.
Either way around I'm still very unimpressed with the QA on this product. I don't think it will be around much longer. Hopefully others won't get sucked in and spend their hard earned $$ on this overpriced piece of hardware. I did read the reviews on the apple store but chose to ignore most of them (lots seemed like rants). I can now testify first hand that it doesn't seem to be all it's cracked up to be, especially on the sound quality front
I'll leave this thread open for a while longer as I want to see if anyone else is having this issue or if it's something specific with my setup (if it's specific to my setup I may just end up returning this headset and buying something else).
    Thanks again.

  • Error after 1.1.1 update. iPhone/dock says "Accessory is not made to work..

"This accessory is not made to work with the iPhone" when it's in the Apple dock....
The option is to turn on Airplane Mode....
    Whatsup with that??

I have the same problem, standard connector/stand that came with the iPhone hooked directly to the usb port on my MBP. Stupid iPhone doesn't recognize it's own dock. No hacks, no jailbreak or anything ever done to the phone.

    Hello abyjohn,
I would be concerned too if the speaker on my iPhone was not working, and if I was getting a message about the accessory not being optimized.  I found an article with some steps to take when you are experiencing issues like this.

Ive seen loads of people with this issue and no luck.
Basically as of yesterday, The message
This accessory is not optimized for this iPhone. You may experience noise interference and a decrease in cellular signal strength"
appeared and wont go away. I have nit used my headphones for a month so i cant think of anything that has triggered it.
    Solutions I have tried..
Making sure my phone isnt on mute.
Letting the power dye and re charging.
    plugging in head phones etc.
    Still no luck.
    Model is iPhone 3GS 16GB.

My mum's phone had that message too. I googled it. Sometimes the connection becomes dirty due to dust, dirt, water or a combination of all three. It is recommended to clean out the connection using a clean, dry brush, like a paint brush.
    It worked for her
    I hope that this helps

    Hi,
i've got a problem with the iPhone 4 and the "JBL on stage lllp", the message "This accessory is not optimized for this iphone" appears after connecting it to the docking station. Only the battery is charging. After a reboot with "docked" iPhone it works fine till the next unplug and connect.
It sounds like a software problem to me.
    Thank you for your help.

    iPhone 4s.

    I also have this problem.
I'm sure I read that the iphone 4s was supported before I bought it??
My 3GS running 6.1.6 works fine docked into the JBL on stage lllp.

    I didn't know about this...
Any one got any ideas or solutions?
    Many thanks.

  • Accessory is not optimized for this iphone

I have iphone 4 and for almost a year I have used a Sylvania docking station to charge my phone at night and to also play my music through the speakers on it then all of the sudden I got the message "This accessory is not optimized for this iphone"  I went to the apple store and they said I needed to update the latest software to my iphone.  I did the update to OS5 and icloud which was a nightmare finally got everything restore and I still got this message when I try to dock my phone.  I can use other ipods in it so whats going on any ideas ???

In the iPhone 4 and newer they built in some hardware checks. Official, authorised apple accessories have a bit of hardware which identifies themselves to the iphone. Non official units dont have this and thus the iPhone presents a 'nag' screen. It shouldnt stop it from working but its basically apples way of making you buy official stuff by nagging you.
If its started lately, it could be a problem with your docking station.

    Hello there philp_69,
If I understand correctly it sounds like your phone hasnt been recognized in iTunes on your PC since the last couple of updates. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article which will walk you through the steps one by one.

  • Just started getting intermittent error on my 3G:This accessory is not optimized for iPhone..." but nothing is connected or plugged in to it or anything?

Was just checking my iPhone and when I pressed the home button to wake it up the message "no sim installed" was on the screen,  obviously it was so I restarted the phone, that cleared it but then I started intermittently getting a popup message "this accessory is not optimized for iPhone...(don't remember the rest), did a hard reset and still happening once in a while, there isn't anything plugged into or connected to my phone at all though, would appreciate any help or advice please

The most common reason for message "this accessory is not optimized for iPhone" with nothing plugged in, is dust, debris etc. in the iPhone dock port. Clean the dock port with a clean dry toothbrush. If the message returns again, clean the dock port again very carefully using some isopropyll alcohol, especially the pins which are on top of the dock mid rib.

Clean the iPhone dock port with a clean dry tooth brush. If the warning occurs again, clean the dock port very carefully and thoroughly with isopropyll alcohol, especially the pins which are on top of the dock mid rib. If still warning, then take iPhone to Apple for Warranty service.

How to deleted warning "this accessory is not optimized for this phone"

You cannot delete it, it is a valid message.
The issue may be that the dock connector has dust/lint in it or the pins are bent.  Try cleaing the connector with a soft dry brush.
This assumes that the "accessory" that is generating the message is optimized for iPhone.
