"This apple ID has not purchased OS X"

Background, I purchased a Macbook Pro on craigslist, it had Lion installed. Last week we had some kind of power issue that resulted in an unsafe shutdown which in turn corrupted the OS / boot sector, I'm not really sure how that all works on a Mac. In any case, I wiped the partition. I ended up buying a copy of Lion online, because I only had what was already installed. When I am in Mac OS X Utilities on the recovery drive I click "Reinstall Mac OS X," and it tells me "This Apple ID has not purchased OS X Lion." Most of the threads I've seen on here say to go to the App Store and download it, and that will mark it as "purchased" as far as apple is concerned. (even though I already got my email with the key and all that) But how am I supposed to get to the App Store if I can't boot my Mac? I have a very important DJ gig in 3 days and I am freaking out right now.

You buy Lion on the Online Apple Store. Then Apple sends you a redemption code to the email associated with the Apple ID you used to buy Lion and then you go to the Mac App Store (Completely different than the Apple Online Store) to download it and install it.
BUT to get to the Mac App Store you must have a Mac that is running Snow Leopard 10.6.7 or above, Lion, Mt Lion or Mavericks.
The only thing you can try is to boot to the Online Internet Recovery system. If your Mac is a late 2011 model or newer you will have access to Lion from that system.
To boot to that Online system at startup hold down the Command + Option/alt + r keys and keep them held down until you see a globe on the screen. Once the Mac OS X Utilities screen loads select "Reinstall Mac OS X".
If you get that screen but you can't download OS X, you get an error, or you don't get any globe on the screen then your Mac originally came with an older version of OS X and to reinstall any version of OS X you will need the original system reinstall discs that came with every Mac before Lion came out.
If you don't have those discs then you can order a set from Apple at a small charge. you have to contact Apple by phone and ask to speak to someone to order a set of Replacement System Reinstall discs. you will need the serial number of you Mac to order them. the serial number is etched into the bottom of the case near the screen hinge.

I have erased my drive and when I try to download Mavericks from OS X Uilities, it says "this apple ID has not purchased Lion", will it work it I buy Lion code from Apple ?  Thanks

By OS X Utilities, do you mean Recovery? http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718
Can you explain exactly what you did to erase the drive?
And, which Recovery were you in, regular or Internet? (internet recovery starts up showing a spinning globe).

  • "This Apple ID has not purchased 'OS X Lion'"

Hello, I recently wiped my hard drive and now when I get to the Mac OS X Utilities screen and try to reinstall my Mac OS X, it tells me that my Apple ID has not purchased Lion. When I first got this computer, I'm pretty sure it was running Lion, but I'm not completely sure. I just brought Lion from the apple online store in hopes that it would verify the purchase and l would be able to download fix my computer, but no such luck. Will I have to wait 1-3 days for it to actually ship before I can get on my computer again? Help is much appreciated. Thank you!

Lion is not Shipped. It is Download only.
Did you buy your Mac new or used?
If used then it came with an earlier version of OS X than Lion. More than likely Snow Leopard. If that is the case then you will need the original system reinstall DVd disc set that came with every Mac before Lion came out, mid (June or July) 2011.
They were packed inside the box the Mac came in. If you don't have them you can order a replacement set from Apple for a small charge.
    NOTE:
    YOU WILL NEED THOSE DISCS.

  • ''This Apple ID has not purchased Lion"

    Hello,
Recently I wiped the whole hard drive on my mb374(Shipped with Snow Leopard) and tried to reinstall.
I press R+Command and get into the online restore or something, and an Apple ID is required in order to install the operating system. So I did type my account number and password and was informed that 'This apple ID has not purchaed Lion'. Before I wiped the harddrive the laptop ran 10.8. My apple id has purchased Lion on App store before and this laptop has upgraded from SL->Lion->ML. And I don't have anothe mac or the dvd of snow leopard that came with it.
    Any idea? Thanks!

    Hello,
Thank you for your reply! I have solved the problem by...Using my friend's apple ID
And after that I checked my purchases on apple app store and yes lion & mountain lion are purchased(0$ for ML)
don't know why this happened but anyway

  • MBP This Apple ID has not purchased Lion.

hi i bought a MBP of second hand and i restore and when i want to re installed the OS X mountain LION they need the apple id that was used to purchase "OS X Mountain Lion". so i dont know what to do because i bought to a friend that i cant contact to him, anyone can help me?

You will need to use a Snow Leopard retail DVD. If you don't have one:
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Once this is completed you can download Mavericks from the App Store using your Apple ID and password.

  • "This Apple ID has not purchased 'OS X Mountain Lion'"

So I recently initiated a reboot to my MacBook pro, in order to clean it and restore it to factory settings. I was asked to reinstall OS X Mountain Lion and when I attempted to do so this message appeared. Noticing this I went on ahead and purchased Mountain Lion for $19.99 with my Apple ID  signed in. After recognizing that my order was complete and I was billed I went to then reinstall Mountain Lion and the same message appeared even though that said Apple ID WAS in fact used to purchase OS X Mountain Lion. please help!

    Hi,
I`ve got a MacBook Air with OS X Lion. Tried to update it, then it broke down.
On a restart I get the sound and the apple logo, then it whites out and nothing happening.
So I tried to reinstall Lion:
    Turn on
    Press Command+R
Go to Disk utility: Erase HD
    Join wifi
Go to Reinstall Mac OS X: choose drive, sign in to download from App Store...
And then boom: Got the error message above.
So I went online from a pc and purchased OS X Lion from App Store. When it arrived 3 days later, I tried to do the same steps, but I got the very same error message.
    Why???
What to do now to get it sorted?
    Thanks in advance. x

So I went online from a pc and purchased OS X Lion from App Store.
It's not possible to access Apple's App Store from a PC. Can you provide a link to the site you used?
When it arrived 3 days later, I tried to do the same steps, but I got the very same error message.
When what arrived? Lion and later can legally, and only be downloaded from Apple's servers.

  • I get this message when trying to authorize my  computer. This apple id has not been used yet with the itunes store. Do i have to purchase first

get this message when trying to authorize my  computer. This apple id has not bee used with the itunes store.
Do i have to purchase something, before i can authorize my computer.Thank you in advance for any answers received.

You cannot buy anything from the iTunes Store until you authorize the computer. Are you unable to authorize it? If so see the following:
    Authorization
Macs:  iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

You haven't opened an account with that Apple ID in iTunes. Open iTunes and log in. A dialog will appear in which you need to enter your Apple ID and/or password. Below it you should see a link for creating a new account. Click on that link to get started.

If you are within 14 days of purchase you can still return the iPhone and get the phone that suits your needs, however, I think you will find that no matter which phone you get the content provider will want to know how you are going to pay for future purchases. For Android phones it is Google, and they will certainly want to know.

  • When i log in my apple id in itunes a message prompt me "This Apple ID has not yet been used with the itunes store" what do i need to do?

when i log in my apple id in itunes a message prompt me "This Apple ID has not yet been used with the itunes store" what do i need to do?

If you can log into the computer, go to the Mac App Store and purchase Mavericks under your AppleID.   Even though its free, they still consider it a purchase.
If you are not able to log into your Mac you can try on a different Mac.  Once you purchase it, you can stop the download if you want.
Once you do that then you should be able to reinstall via the Recovery HD
