This computer is not Authorized

I've created an iMovie (08) project. When I try to put in music from my iTune , i get the message "This computer is not authorized to play this content" The music in question I have bought from iTunes fully legal ! What's wrong ? I've repaired permissions , and de-authorized and authorized again the same computer without success .

My iTunes account name and password have not changed since I signed up and all of my music is authorized with this one account. I've deauthorized and authorized the same account over again with no help. Only the unlocked songs will paste correctly into my iMovie projects. Making a copy of a song via CD will and putting that copy back into iTunes will create an unlocked version of the file. I'm pretty convinced that Apple f*'ed this up with iLife '09 because the problem did not exist until I installed it on my machine. I have kept IMovie '06 around because I am used to the interface and find that the new interface in iMovie '08/09 is not usable. My guess is that the new version of iLife either added new DRM protections, over wrote some previously installed DRM protection, or moved and reformated some DRM protection file that essentially disabled iMovie '06 from properly accessing iTunes information. Maybe iTunes 8.1.1 did the same thing. The bottom line is that iMovie '06 needs a repair of some sort to "see" the DRM information. Since Apple is reluctant to support legacy applications in favor of charging huge dollars for new and "improved" ones, I doubt that there will be fix anytime soon. Thanks Apple!

  • Itunes wont sync error message this computer is not authorized

itunes will not sync my purchased songs to my new ipod touch, i get an error message that says, "some of the songs purchased cannot be transferred, this computer is not authorized, go to store, then authorize this computer."   I have done this over and over again, I have even deauthorized and then RE authorized again and again, I still get the same message. Can someone please please please HELP ME?

I have been renting movies on my MBP and a previous MBP for years, and have always been able to transfer the rentals to an iPhone.  I always rent on the MBP and not the iPhone.  However due to a NEW authorisation problem recently I have not been able to play these movies through the Apple TV (V2) like I have been doing.  Others on the Internet have also started having this problem.  I have to resort to airplaying the movie from the MBP over to the Apple TV, which is a royal pain.  What's the point of having all this gear in the family room when I have to get up and go to the office and start the movie playing from there?!  Anyway, also recently I have not been able to move rented movies to the iPhone.  I have tried recursively chmodding the Shared folder as described here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1277
    and it didn't help.
So now, if we go on a long road trip or flight, we can't bring the rented movies on an iPhone/iPad.  This is a big problem.  No I am not going to bring the laptop on the trip.  The iTunes library is on an external disk on the LAN anyway.

If you purchased the song from the iTunes Store go to your purchase history and re-download it from there. You will not be charged again.

Were these songs purchased using another account?
" I opened a new iTunes account and copied the files to the new account.  "
Do you mean to a new library?
Account is a user neame and password with which you purchase content.
A library is your collection of media.

  • "This computer is not authorized to play" any DRM items from iTunes Store

My iTunes 9.0.3 Library has DRM songs (purchased years ago up thru the end of iTunes DRM) plus TV shows (purchased from 2006 thru two days ago).
I just discovered none of these restricted songs or TV shows can be played because ...
*This computer is not authorized to play "name of item". Would you like to authorize it?*
Before I use another authorization for my Mac Pro (on which everything from 2007 on was purchased), I'd like to understand what has gone wrong.

I searched the iTunes forum for help before opening this thread. Thanks, Jolly, for the pointer to the article -- it looked promising, but none of the points apply to my situation.
I did fresh search of all articles, which found the one Jolly recommended. It found a lot of other articles, most/all of which did not include "This computer is not authorized" even though I put that phrase in quotation marks. Article Advanced Search appears to be broken.

  • "The file 'x' could not be copied because this computer is not authorized."

I am trying to get an app (VSCO Cam) from my sister's iTunes library. We are logged onto the same home share network, and I can open her library just fine, but when I click the app and click "Import", a box shows up and says, "The file "VSCO CAM could not be copied because this computer is not authorized." I'm not sure wat computer it's talking about, buton both computers we've got up to the "Store" button, clicked "Authorize this computer", and we've entered OUR OWN Apple ID's. Now, the one we use for homesharing is different, and we both have our own apple ID's, which I put in my own, and she put in her own when asked to authorize our computers. Should we be putting in the ID we use when we homeshare when asked to authorize? Or will that change everything about our iTunes libraries.
I can import a song just rom her library just fine, it's only when I try to do the app/.

  • This computer is not authorized to play "..." after ML upgrade?

When I attempt to play a movie in iTunes I receive the message "This computer is not authorized to play "..." Would you like to authroize it?  So I type user name and password and hit authorize.  iTunes states the message "the computer is already authorized."  Movies will still not play.
Under iTunes Store tab both options for 'Authorize This Computer" and "Deauthorize This Computer" are selectable.  iTunes store settings show my computer as authorized.
I have deauthorized my computer and authorized multiple times.  Shut down iTunes and restarted the computer.  Some combination seemed to address the issue the first time.  This is the second time within two weeks. Music plays fine no matter what, just movies give me the error.  The movies are all purchased through iTunes store.  Had no problems before the upgrade.
    Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance!

If a small number of your iTunes purchases are affected, delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country. If you get that message for every item, click here and follow the instructions.

  • EReader message:  This computer is not authorized to preview this book (but it is and I've bought the book)

Message on computer for eReader says "This computer is not authorized to preview this book" but it is authorized and I've bought the book.  Am trying to access information that will tell me how to retrieve books that I've tried to delete from the reader (but appear to have deleted from the computer).

This is typically caused by file corruption. Delete and redownload those songs if doing so is free in your country.
