This Connection is Untrusted - all answers are ineffective
Persistent but inconsistent bouts of this certificates problem. Especially bad with outlook.com / live.com but also dogging yahoo.com. These certificates are often inappropriate to the domain in question, coming from "sister" domains (like outlook.com login goes to blue.live.com, and so on). But this is not the point. The point is, I want to just kill and be done with certificates. You fix this one release and break it the next. Option to add exceptions goes away, comes back, goes away with no evident reason. MSIE is better behaved, shame on you. Advice to go ask the certificate supplier is pointless, they do not respond. Advice to check antivirus has been done, still ineffective with all Web scanning disabled. Clock is fine. This is simple inability to deal with messy bookkeeping at the destination end. You can't handle it, I get it. But you could at least leave me an "out". Yes, you could.
Just tell me how to eliminate certificates checking (or tell me a browser that does a less crappy job of following these chains and I'll quit using Firefox today). A browser that won't browse your most common email providers is not worth keeping. Does not matter how you think the world should be, if you can't provide connectivity despite sloppy housekeeping at the other end, you can't provide connectivity, which means you are not useful.

Yesterday I could log into sites like Facebook, Google and others fine, and now when I try to log in to them it comes up with the following message:
'This connection is untrusted.
www.facebook.com uses an invalid security certificate.

I managed to get onto other sites like BBC News and Outlook without any error messages. Strangely, Google Images comes up fine from a bookmarked link, but then goes to untrusted as soon as you search for anything. I've seen this message come up on the support site before, and have tried the following suggestions:
-Cleared the cache
-Cleared cookies (including individual page cookies)
-Deleted internet temp files
-Cleared Downloads folder in Firefox
-Opened Firefox in Safe Mode to rule out add-on problems
-Chosen 'No proxy server' in the Network options
-Reloaded the page using Ctrl-Shift-R
-Reloaded the page from a History tab when it was working (yesterday)
-Used the bookmarked link
-Typed the link in directly
-Reset Firefox
-Deleted the 'cert8' file in the Firefox folder
-Synchronised system time and date with time.windows
-Full antivirus scan on computer (which showed nothing)
-Checked web security settings in Bullguard (no interference there)
-Uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox
I managed to get Google working eventually, then the Mozilla Support pages said they were untrusted, so I'm currently posting from Chrome, which is becoming my backup browser more frequently :(

How do I disable "this connection is untrusted" I visit the same web site mutiple times in a day and every visit I get this same dam error, these are trusted sites within my work environment. This is getting really old, and I am thinking that I should just uninstall, which is a pity becuase I do like firefox

As for exporting a known good certificate from another browser, sure good idea, but it doesn't seem to work. I tried exporting from IE, Firefox did the import without complaint, but it still complains. At any rate, I don't care about that. Please read this entire post before answering since it addresses virtually all the most popular "solutions" for this problem and they DON'T WORK.

The moderator's blatant copy-paste response was an insult and not helpful at all.
My system date is ok and the cause of invalid certificate is the LEAST of my concerns. I just want to browse the website and not get ANY warnings about ANY invalid certificates or ANY risks involved, period. All popular workarounds with settings/advanced/validity properties have been tried but none of them fix this for me. I want FF to accept all invalid certificates instantly without notification or warning, no matter what.
I want to remove the warning screen "This Connection is Untrusted" permanently for all future references, so that I don't even see any errors related to it when I browse a website.
I'm not here to argue the merits or lack thereof for this action, I just want to get rid of it.
I'm running a lot of custom software on my comp and I have 3 LAN cards connecting me to 3 different networks with varying degrees of security and this notification is a huge pain in the... back, because it eats my time every day.
I've been using Firefox for years exactly because it didn't have stuff like this in the past - I could visit all the funny/suspicious/malicious websites without problems, where IE would have died 10 times over. Sadly that FF feature began changing to the worse in the past years, an ever-increasing slope downwards for this once great web browser.
I KNOW all the risks involved and I don't care. In fact I encourage websites to try and install "stuff" on my computer because as I mentioned, this is a special computer. I'm visiting 40-50 websites with that prompt DAILY because that's what I do for a living. Every time I have to add an exception is a wasted effort and time. I'm running other browsers as well but FF is my focus due to its popularity.
Please for the love of all that is sacred, provide some sort of workaround for this without the need to install an addon or click "I understand the risks" a gazillion times. An "about:config" variable would be nice but apparently it's not there, I looked.That is not possible as that would expose you and other Firefox users to unacceptable security vulnerabilities.
The normal procedure is to contact the website maintainer and ask them to fix the certificate chain or install missing root certificates in Firefox and set the trust bits accordingly.
If you do not care about certificates then why don't you install proxy software and use that proxy and let it handle the certificates and import the root certificate of that proxy in Firefox? -

Ran Microsoft Safety Scan for malware; nothing was found

This problem exists ONLY in my user profile and ONLY in Firefox. All 5 other users can run Firefox with no problem. I can run IE and Chrome with no problem.
Problem exists in ALL secured (https) sites.
I use Avast and Windows Firewall. Had never heard of ESET or BitDefender before searching these forums.
A lot of the sites don't give me the option to Make an Exception. The two that I tried to make exceptions for, still wouldn't open.

Saw in a forum someone else having this problem and they were told it had to do with their Date and time being off?? I've been on several computers, all with the correct date and time and they've all shown this Insecure Certificate statement on my bank site with Firefox and no other browser.I've looked at the banking site with IE8 and it does NOT show me that "This connection is Untrusted" window. (please see attached screen shot of viewing the site with IE8) It opens fine and has "Identified by Network Solutions" showing on the address bar as it always does.
The latest version of Opera (not earlier ones) does show a problem with the website's security certificate.
We've contacted the bank about this, and they say there's no problem with their certificate but are looking into it.
My question remains, why only Firefox and one version of Opera claim this and NO other browser? -

Untrusted?? REALLY?? maps.google.com is untrusted!?! Oh, and support.mozilla.org is ALSO untrusted? I'm using Chrome to post this because in the case of support.mozilla.org, there IS no option that allows me onto the site.
Pretty much every site I go to has this problem and Firefox is now all but unusable to me. And I'm on a corporate machine, so it's not like I have a lot of options here. And it's not our corporate network, because only a few of us have this problem.

As of this morning i have not been able to open gmail or facebook with firefox.
1. I have not made any OS changes or antivirus changes since yesterday.
2. I always set my cache and history to be cleared when i close firefox.
3. I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox a few times (completely following the instructions on the mozilla page where the hidden roaming firefox directory is to be removed).
4. I reverted back to Firefox 32.0.3 and it did not solve the problem.
5. I ran malwarebytes and Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection and there are no viruses or malware detected.
6. I am running Win 7.
7. I can open these sites without a problem on Chrome or IE.

mail.google.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)Thanks for your input. My issue got fixed. It seemed to be a proxy issue. Once this variable was set in about:config to the proxy name I was again able to access all the above mentioned sites: ''network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris''. The value of this variable was '''thenameofmycompany.com'''.
I don't know what happened to change this overnight when i did not update the browser but somehow this was the issue. Also looks like when i downloaded and installed firefox this variable did not get set automatically. -

When I try to open G-Mail & twitter and some other trusted websites, I got the following warning "This Connection is Untrusted" with Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer.
For most of the site, I can bypass by clicking « I understand the risk » but this is a bummer but for Gmail and Twitter, there is no other button than "Get me out of here"
When I go through « about:support » and « reinitialise » system, I no longer have the problem, but not only it erases all my personnal set-up but the problem always come back when I restart my system
Date and time are set right.
I have also tried to reinstall completely FIREFOX to no avail
I am using McAfee Total protection 2014 & Firefox 31.0 on Windows 7 64 bits.
I have had this problem for the last 5 days and only Firefox.
Other Browser ( IE8.0) is working fine
I have searched for solutions but they all failed -
Deleting cert8.db did not solve the problem either

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

Can't skip "This Connection is Untrusted" error page
The SSL certificate for one of the sites I use expired today a couple hours ago, and the devs of that site still haven't had spare time to update it yet. Suppose it's not a big issue, in most (other) browsers you can just review the problem and click on "continue anyway" link or something like that, when you're sure that the certificate was expected to become invalid. So you can visit the page requested with broken certificate in _single_ click. But not in Firefox.
As I remember - some time ago on the Cert Error page there was "I understand the risks" paragraph with the button "Add exception" below. Looks like it got disabled in Firefox 30 as I don't see it there. Okay, I googled around and found out that in about:config page there's a secret option browser.xul.error_pages.expert_bad_cert which was in disabled state by some reason (I personally haven't ever touched it before). Okay, now I'm able to open the ugly "Add exception" window, but when I add exception - nothing happens. Neither temporary not permanent exception option allowes me to view the site. "This Connection is Untrusted", browser says. Period.
After that I've tried to install "Skip cert error" add-on - with no success. Even if I add the site URL to whitelist in add-on options, which "in theory" should bypass ANY security checks for this exactly domain - then I still end up staring at "This Connection is Untrusted" error which simply can't be bypassed by any means.
The sites I've tried to reach are https://lists.openwrt.org and https://forum.openwrt.org. It's interesting though, the certificate is also expired at https://openwrt.org, but that site can be added to exception list and then firefox opens it. However I see completely NO WAY to make firefox open https://lists.openwrt.org or https://forum.openwrt.org.
I've run out of ideas and came here. Hope somebody knows how to workaround this issue.
PS: I wonder why the hell there's no option to bypass the check by some _simple_ means like in other browsers so that I could reach requested site in seconds rather then searching for settings/addons/workarounds for hours. Thank you firefox for such enourmous care for security, you've made me run Internet Explorer again...
Update 1:
It appears that in this case the certificate was registered for domain openwrt.org, but was also used for forum and lists subdomains. Now it is expired, but the expiration issue can be ignored by exception list only for openwrt.org itself. Other subdomains are actually added to exception list, but it doesn't work for them, so that browser is stuck at "untrusted connection" error which can't be ignored or skipped. What a shame.

I was quiet wrong in Update 1: in fact the SSL certificate for openwrt.org was Level 2 certificate with correcly registered subdomains like forum.openwrt.org and lists.openwrt.org. However when the certificate expired, only openwrt.org exception worked and the site was browseable. All the subdomains could be added to exceptions but regardless of that fact firefox refused to open those sites and was stuck on unskippable "untrusted connection" error page.
For now openwrt.org maintainers have already renewed their certificate so the problem can't be observed on those domains anymore. However I believe that the problem in firefox exceptions handling still exists and should be fixed in future firefox releases.Hi kozaki, this thread is about an older version of Firefox. For what it's worth, I see the "I understand the risk" section of this page in Firefox 33.0.3: https://forum.anomos.info/ -- but I have not added an exception for the top level site, so maybe that's a partial explanation for the difference.
Also, a new release of Firefox is out today which makes some changes for certificate issues.

Cannot access any https sites, clock is OK, get This Connection is Untrusted error message.
All works OK on Chrome and IE, but Firefox just suddenly stopped access to https sites yesterday, e.g. Google, Facebook and Linkedin. Non secure http sites are OK though. "This Connection is Untrusted" is the error message and technical details are www.google.com.tw uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer). I've tried all the Mozilla support suggestions, clock (which was always correct), reset Firefox, etc. No change so far, I hope you can help fix this issue.
Check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
Check out why the site is untrusted and click "Technical Details to expand this section.<br>If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer of the certificate.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If <b>"I Understand the Risks"</b> is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".

Every time i go to a secure website using firefox latest version i get an error saying "This Connection is Untrusted" This was never there before and now its appearing. My computer clock and date is correct and i have tested out all plugins that they are updated. Also did a scan on all viruses and spyware nothing there any help please.

You can see that the certificate is issued by your security software (Firewall): ESET SSL Filter CA<br />
So you will have to disable that filter or install the ESET root certificate that chains to that certificate. -
'This Connection Is Untrusted' Won't Go Away
I have been using Firefox for a while, but then suddenly some websites came up with 'This Connection is Untrusted'. Whenever I got this, I added an exception and everything was fine. All of a sudden, when I tried accessing a page on Facebook, the message came up again, without the option to add an exception. I've been searching through google for an answer, but haven't found anything that worked. It's really annoying.
