'This content is not authorized' issue playing back Movies on an iPad

When my son tries to play a movie purchased from iTunes he sees, "Cannot Open: This content is not authorized." The movie was purchased on our home computer using my iTunes account and he's logged in under my credentials for Home Sharing, but all legally purchased content throws up this warning. Is there a work around?

I have this exact issue.  I am running 7.1.1 and it all worked perfectly when just running 7.0 back in February.  I have the problem on both my iPhone 4 and my iPad mini (1G).  The content I have imported myself from DVD's works fine.  The only content that doesn't work is what I purchased on iTunes. Movies, and TV shows, SD and HD. Nothing purchased works. It comes up as "Cannot Open: This content is not authorised." I've checked. I am logged in with the correct iTunes account for home sharing on both the iDevices and the Macbook.  I am running the latest iTunes and iOS versions... w. t. f.
I have airvideo and have used it. I would prefer if this worked as advertised as it did mere months ago.
Things haven't changed on my tablets except for the upgrades...

CANNOT OPEN This content is not authorized - I have downloaded many movies in the past through iTunes. This time I get this message and I have been unable to play two movies while on vacation. And this is the message I get :-( The only difference is an upgrade to the newest operating systems. Please help ! Thanks !

So on a final note on this issue, Apple called me back as promised however it was an automated message not the person I dealt with previously, so all they did really was to save me from dialing their number as I had to explain myself all over again.
They kept sending me "higher" to the next "senior" advisor who I thought would have more technical expertise than the one previous but this was not the case the last person I spoke basically told me (after making stupid excuses and trying to justify the issue because I was using "legacy" devices) that there was nothing he could do for me except to document the issue.
    Thats's strike 1 Apple....2 more and you're out!!

  • TS1389 when i changed my browser to IE 8, I am no longer able to play the songs I purchased. I keep getting a dialog box saying "this computer is not authorized to play this song. Would you like to authorize it? The box has an old apple ID . How do I get

I try to play the Itunes song I purchased. I have a new computer, another internet provider since I purchased the songs, and have switched to a new internet browser Internet Explorer 8. I keep getting a dialog box saying "this computer is not authorized to play the song. would you like to authorize it?
An old Apple ID popps up and I am asked for the old passwork which I no longer remember. I successfully changed to a new Apple ID and password.
when I enter that, a new dialog box appears, saying "this computer is already authorized." When I try to play the song the first box appears again,
I I go round over and over, with no success playing my songs. Can anybody out their resolve this? Thanks for any help

Were these songs purchased using another account?
" I opened a new iTunes account and copied the files to the new account.  "
Do you mean to a new library?
Account is a user neame and password with which you purchase content.
A library is your collection of media.

  • This computer is not authorized to play "..." after ML upgrade?

When I attempt to play a movie in iTunes I receive the message "This computer is not authorized to play "..." Would you like to authroize it?  So I type user name and password and hit authorize.  iTunes states the message "the computer is already authorized."  Movies will still not play.
Under iTunes Store tab both options for 'Authorize This Computer" and "Deauthorize This Computer" are selectable.  iTunes store settings show my computer as authorized.
I have deauthorized my computer and authorized multiple times.  Shut down iTunes and restarted the computer.  Some combination seemed to address the issue the first time.  This is the second time within two weeks. Music plays fine no matter what, just movies give me the error.  The movies are all purchased through iTunes store.  Had no problems before the upgrade.
    Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance!

i had to authorize it two ways, sorry for my rant, overtired

  • This computer is not authorized to play filename .m4v

    Hey all,
    First post so be gentle.
I've attempted several times now to play my downloaded tv episodes from within itunes. When I click to play them I get a message saying "This computer is not authorized to play <filename>.m4v"
It then gives me an option to open itunes and wait for authorization. I wait and nothing happens. I just get a blank grey screen while the episode 'plays' in itunes. ( I say plays because I see the seconds and minutes counting down on the episode. I just don't hear or see anything, just a grey screen.
I've never really had issues in the past with itunes and videos, but admittedly I've not purchased any in a while. The music plays fine, it is only the videos that are bugging out on me.
    So far I've tried:
-Unauthorizing and Reauthorizing my itunes. ( Can't unauthorize all machines since I'm still in the year timeframe )
-Upgrading Quicktime from 7.5.5 to 7.6
    -Repairing Disk Permissions
    -Steps in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
    -Upgrading my video card drivers.
    -Upgrading itunes
    Any other ideas?

Same problem. I went on a shopping spree and downloaded some TV shows, left them downloading overnight. Next day I go to play them and iTunes claims the computer is not authorized (which it is), I input my password, then it tells me it was already authorized along with my other computer.
The video then comes up grey with no sound. The timeline runs but that's about it. Ironically though, I can play it through my iPhone after a synch.
    Here's an image walkthrough:
    http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/3927/itunesgreyissue.jpg
I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest quicktime. Did the same for iTunes after a restart (complete with deleting the com.apple.itunes files on the library. I also got rid of every video plugin I have such as DivX and Flip4Mac.
    Nothing fixes the issue.

  • During DVD creation, get this message "Music not authorized to play"

I cannot get the music to record on my DVD. This just started two days ago right after I upgraded to v 7.3.1 of iTunes. I have successfully burned dozens of DVDs prior to this. I wonder if the iTunes upgrade is not compatible with iDVD now.
My problem is that I continuously get a message that the 3 songs I am using are "not authorized to play on this computer". This is BS because I downloaded them on this machine and they will play in iTunes. 7 days ago, these 3 songs downloaded onto the first DVD that I burnt, so they are authorized.
Also I get a message in iDVD that the program cannot access iTunes and that I must upgrade to version 4.0 or later.

    Hi Tom
Don't know the real problem BUT accordingly
    music/audio from iTunes there
often is problems about - silece parts when making
    the DVD.
The work around this is - and might most probably
    help You too.
    - In iTunes select audio needed
    - Export out as an audio-DV .aiff
    - Use the audio on this in Your movie project
∆ Now it should work OK
Tedious - Yes I know but this is a working solution.
    Yours Bengt W
thanks for your suggestion. I can try that, but it is tedious and I have not had to do that before. I want to be able to do this as quickly as I did before when the music played all the way through and I did not get those messages that said "this computer is not authorized to play this song"
I want to go back to iTunes, v 7.3 that I used before the recent upgrade to 7.3.1 since that older version worked.
Are you listening Apple techs???? You have a problem with v 7.3.1 upgrade. I am going to try to do this project on my lap mac which has not bee upgraded.

  • Message pops up when watching videos on my iPad the message says "this content is not authorized

I get a message when watching videos on my iPad the message says "this content is not authorized and that I bought a season of a tv show and some episodes downloaded only because I didn't have enough space on my iPad to download the rest and I tried viewing that tv show on my iPad and that's when the message came up and with the movie as well

    Couple of questions
Have you backed up to this computer before?
Are those apps part of family sharing?

If you purchased the song from the iTunes Store go to your purchase history and re-download it from there. You will not be charged again.

  • "This computer is not authorized to play" any DRM items from iTunes Store

My iTunes 9.0.3 Library has DRM songs (purchased years ago up thru the end of iTunes DRM) plus TV shows (purchased from 2006 thru two days ago).
I just discovered none of these restricted songs or TV shows can be played because ...
*This computer is not authorized to play "name of item". Would you like to authorize it?*
Before I use another authorization for my Mac Pro (on which everything from 2007 on was purchased), I'd like to understand what has gone wrong.

I searched the iTunes forum for help before opening this thread. Thanks, Jolly, for the pointer to the article -- it looked promising, but none of the points apply to my situation.
I did fresh search of all articles, which found the one Jolly recommended. It found a lot of other articles, most/all of which did not include "This computer is not authorized" even though I put that phrase in quotation marks. Article Advanced Search appears to be broken.

    Hey adam mcnamee,
Are you sure your authosizing the the computer with the correct account? highlight the file>File>Get Info. The info window will tell you the account that purchased the song.
you can view the iTunes store support page here: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/authorization/
