This copy of iTunes is corrupted or not installed properly ? Help

Hi,
After starting up iTunes I received en error message: "This copy of iTunes is corrupted or not installed properly". So I downloaded the latest version via apple but it fails to re-install because there is already a later version of iTunes on my mac ? So iTunes is corrupted, I get the advise to reinstall but I can't because the install prog refuses to do so. Please help !
I am running OSX 10.7.3 on an intel MacBookPro with the latest iTunes installed (as far as I know).
Thanks in advance,
Mark

Not to worry. The package downloaded by Software Update seemed to be b0rken.
I fixed it like this:
Download iTunes 9.0.2 here:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iTunes9/061-7197. 20091029.tnz9f/iTunes9.0.2.dmg
That disk image unpacks an .mpkg (meta package) whereas Software Update downloaded a folder containing packages. Looks like it just unpacked on download instead of install.

Let's try a repair install of iTunes first.
Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "iTunes" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "iTunes", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch your iTunes now?

  • This Copy of iTunes is corrupted or not installed properly

Ran software update and now iTunes shows as v 9.0, but when I run I get the error; This copy of iTunes is corrupted or not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.
I've gone to the download link on Apple's iTunes web page. The 82.8MB file is downloading as 110MB and when I double click on the .dmg file to open, I get a warning: The following disk images couldn't be opened iTunes9.dmg error -4960.
    Anyone else?

i dowloaded a update for itunes and now when i try to open it tells me:
this copy of itunes is corruped or not installed....its telling me to reinstall...someone help please lol
when it was in the middle of updating itunes closed .......i duno if that matters....

No, you SHOULDN'T lose your library. I say SHOULDN'T because over the years, I've lost quite a few songs by updating iTunes. I'm not sure why that is but it happens. Other than maybe losing a couple of songs here and there (IF that even happens at all to you), your library should remain intact.
I recommend UNINSTALLING iTunes on your computer first (if it shows up in the Uninstall Menu) and then installing iTunes 11 from a fresh download.
Any version of Windows should have a similar process for uninstalling a program. I've been using Windows since Windows 95 and I now use Windows 7 so I know the process is similar now matter which version you use. I will tell you how I do it in Windows 7.
Start > Control Panel > Uninstall A Program
Then scroll down the menu until you find "iTunes" and highlight it. Then at the top of the screen, select Uninstall. Let Windows finish uninstalling it (it may require a Restart of your computer). Follow all the steps to uninstall it.
Then visit http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and get iTunes 11 for your version of Windows. Download it and install it.
This SHOULD fix the problem. Once you do that, you'll need to go through the process of locating your library though the iTunes Preferences menu. Once your library is sync'd with iTunes, you should be ready to enjoy your music again.
I hope that works for you!
