This copy of windows 7 is not genuine

i have a hp 2000 laptop which came with windows per-installed. i have had it for about 2 months now and recently i decided to install multiple linux distros. so i made a logical partition from the D drive and which became the B drive. i installed the distro
with yumi. it failed to work so when i tried to boot back into windows (i believe this is the hd1) it said bootmgr is missing, but when i boot in to the hd0 (system reserved), it boots into windows. To fix this, I deleted the B drive and i installed plop boot
manager with Bootice.(I also made a G drive and installed linux onto the existing primary D partition). i rebooted the computer when i booted into windows, it was asking for an activation key. when i entered the activation key from winkeyfinder, i get 0xC004E003.
Does this have anything to do with the bootmgr missing?

the fact that the windows partition doesn't boot (or that it has no bootmgr), doesn't seem to be a problem. i checked this by making the system reserved partition active and installing Windows NT 6 MBR. (my touchpad is also fully functional now).
*The Activation problem still persists

Most Activation and Validation issues look the same, on the surface, but can have many different causes and fixes. This is why we ask for a diagnostic report and this is also why we ask that you create your own thread for your issue (in other words, don't post
your issue in another person's thread).
It just becomes too complicated to try to troubleshoot multiple different issues in the same thread.

I waited and waited for the update icon to show uo in my system tray.  it never did.  Then i remembered a strange message during that time.  I had made a screen shot of that message.  it very clearly stated "this copy of Windows 7 is not a genuine copy."  Has anyone else seen this problem.  I bought this computer new and no one has used it but me.   How could it not be genuine?  Why would HP sell me something like that?  Does anyone have an answer?

PLEASE anyone help? I am not a techie person and i dont know how to fix this problem. Thank you and regards.

Now, this is pretty complicated for me to understand but one thing is just clear, this is counterfeit. I have asked help from other Windows7 forums and all they tell me is to report this to Microsoft.
MANY people have counterfeit installs - very few of them actually know it! And im one of them.
A large proprtion of counterfeiting is done b vendors who can make a quick buck by buying/building OS-free machines, and installing 'Ultimate' to unsuspecting purchasers.
Another thing is that I cannot see any COA sticker anywhere my unit.
I used a keyfinder softwareto find my product key but it's not valid for activation since the key used in here is a Default Key. is is getting worst.
I am not very good with this technology stuff and im getting really frustrated.
Is it possible that if i upgrade my system to Windows 8, and use a legal purchase, will i be able to get rid of this "Windows 7 Build 7601 this copy of Windows is not genuine." thing???????
    Please help. Thank you.

  • Re: "This copy of Windows is not genuine" message

Hello, this morning the following message appeared as my wallpaper:
    "Windows 7
    Build 7600
This copy of Windows is not genuine"
Windows came pre-installed on my laptop (i.e. is genuine).
I searched Microsoft, their solution is to run rsop.msc - when I try to do this, I am given the message 'Windows cannot find 'rsop.msc''.
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi
Toshiba preinstalled image is already activated and does not need to be activated again
Also the serial key at the bottom of the unit will not help you. It belongs to the image (OEM version) which is already installed and activated

    Hi,
Few days ago I got the blue screen and after reboot I got the message ""This copy of windows is not genuine.Build 7601". Error code 0x8007007E.
I tried to restore the system to a previous state but it didn't work.
Now, after rebooting I log in and all I get is a black screen with a small text in the right low corner as mentioned. No other command works.
How can I recover the system without reinstalling windows?
    Product number: VM115UA#ABC, G71-333CA, Windows 7

What is the difference between a purchased recovery disk and the ones that I created?
I don't understand why HP installs a different key than the label one. Why bother to place a label with a product key that is not real? I would have knew about all this twist I would have bought a proper Windows licence (at least I would have had the installation kit) and laptop without all the HP useless applications (which proves that if you are in trouble they cannot help at all).
    Thank again,
    Dan
    1. Recovery discs from HP perform the same recovery but take longer to do the recovery than the one's you make yourself.
"HP shipped media covers multiple series and many different configurations. (One set of discs may cover a series that has 10 or even many more unique configurations)
Because of this the process first lays down a 'base' image, and then customizes the image for that specific configuration.
The F11 and customer created media recoveries are specific to that model PC, and are quick because it is laying down an image that is designed only for one configuration.
The last phase of the HP shipped recovery  is installing and customizing the software for that specific model. This last phase can take a very long time, can have popup windows (that should not be clicked), and can involve multiple reboots. Specifically around 12%-19% on the display is where this occurs.
Please don't interact with the PC during this time.
Don't click on any popups unless the system completely stops for significant time.Unless there is a unknown error, the recovery process is actually designed to handle this.
For notebooks, this process can take 4-6 hours on certain configurations."
    2. All OEM PC manufacturers use what is called a Volume License Key (VLK), it makes it much easier to install and activate 10's of millions of Windows installations. By Law they have to give your a Single User License key because you paid for the OS when you purchased the PC, so they put that key on the sticker, this is an Industry wide standard.

  • "Build 6002: This copy of Windows is not genuine"

    Hi everyone..
I have had my TOSHIBA Satellite L40-139 for over a year. It was bought from PC World and came with a pre-installed version of Windows Vista Home Premium. I do not have any of the disks that came with the laptop but the Windows installed is genuine.
I went to install Vista Service Pack 2 having downloaded it. I restarted my laptop only to find my desktop wallpaper had gone and been replaced with a black background and the following in the bottom-right corner of the desktop:
    Windows Vista (TM)
    Build 6002
This copy of Windows is not genuine
This was followed by a pop-up window with two options, 'Activate Now' or 'Activate Later', followed by an error pop-up that says Windows must be re-installed as an "Unauthorised change has been made...please insert CD or DVD". If I press 'Activate Now' it just goes to another pop-up that says I can contact TOSHIBA. If I click the link it just goes to a standard 'Help' screen!
I don't know what to do..I have the COA product key sticker intact and have tried entering it but it just comes back with various errors. It's as if as soon as I installed service pack 2 I've had problems. Again I do not have Vista or a toshiba recovery disk (I don't even know if it came with one). I have tried restoring Windows but it just returns with the same screens!
    HELP!!
PS. Is the Toshiba support line a free number? Does anyone know a number that is free to call from mobiles? (I do not have a landline).

    > As per my first post I do not have a Recovery DVD as mine didn't come with one..I take it I must be doing something wrong and there is another way to sort this? Even the Toshiba product spec states that no recovery DVD comes with it.
As per my first posting I wrote clearly that new notebooks dont come with recovery discs but with HDD recovery only and you must create recovery disc alone. Everything is described in Users manuals document. If you dont read it and dont pick up info about your notebook I cannot help you about it.
If you cannot start HDD recovery installation as described in Toshiba document then something must be screwed up. Why? I dont know.
You can try method posted by Paolo but if this will not help you must install OS again or activate preinstalled version. If you dont have possibility to install original recovery image you can order new disc under https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx or try to clarify situation with nearest Toshiba service. Call them, explain the situation and maybe you will get one for free.
Sorry but I dont know what else to say.

  • Error: Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine

This ThinkPad 4270 was new in April 2012. About 2 weeks ago, the Error message: Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine started appearing.
The Lenovo help desk in Atlanta is of no help. Their job is only "hardware," they say. I have paid Microsoft techs to fix the problem. Three of them have tried everything from running malware and antivirus software to making a registry change.
The "fix" lasts for only a few hours, during which time the message disappears and then, for no known reason, reappears.
I have discussed this with Norton techs and can't find anyone who can either explain or fix the problem. Everything works just fine--the error message just comes up. If I run the MS Validate program it disappears for a while, then reappears.
Also I have had a problem with the fingerprint reader from the time I first received this computer.
I have read postings on the error online on various boards. People have ideas about everything from a virus to a "race" issue with competing anti-virus software. I've had the online "experts" look at the computer and no one can really state the problem.
Do any of you have any experience with this? Any ideas of a real cause and fix?
Everything works just fine--just have the error message.
    Thanks for sharing any ideas.

  • "This copy of Windows isn't genuine"

Yesterday I attempted to update my Windows Vista, but when the computer restarted an error message appeared AFTER I logged into Windows. There was a black screen and just three lines on the bottom right:
    Windows Vista (TM)
    Build 6000
This copy of Windows isn't genuine
I was able to get to Mac by pressing the option button on startup, but I cannot access Windows. I don't know what happened, because I've been using Windows for almost two years and now it's telling me my copy isn't "genuine". How can I remedy this problem? Thanks!

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
this can only be resolved by Microsoft.
    Have a look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WindowsGenuineAdvantage and here http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en/genuinevista/thread/ff4e57b0-7ff8-4f06-8d5 3-cc3f5394fb94
Might be that giving Microsoft a call and ask for a new activation key is the only way out.
    Good Luck

    Hello treadwalker,
For some reason your computer is not properly reading the slic table. You will have to change your product key to the one on your COA: (it is likely to be in the battery compartment.)
How to change the product key.
    click start
    right click computer
    select properties
scroll to the bottom of the page and select change product key
You may have to activate by phone
How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)
    1) Click Start, and in the Search box type:   slui.exe  4
    2) Next press the 'ENTER' key
    3) Select your 'Country' from the list.
    4) Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.
    5) Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options) and wait for a person to help you with activation.
     Additional info:
    Additional information:
Computers, which are built by large manufactures that come with Windows Pre-Installed, come with two (2) Product Keys:
    A)   OEM SLP: This key comes pre-installed in Windows, when it comes from the Factory. This key is geared to work with the special instructions found only on that Manufacturer's computer hardware. So when Windows was installed using the OEM SLP key (at the factory) Windows 7 looks at the motherboard and sees the special instructions and Self-Activates. (that's why you did not need to Activate your computer after you brought it home)
    B)    COA SLP: This is the Product key that you see on the sticker on the side (or bottom,[ or inside the battery compartment]) of your computer. It is a valid product key, but should only be used in limited situations (such as if the OEM SLP key stops self-activating for whatever reason). The key must be activated by Phone. (Note: All manufacturers that use the OEM SLP system are required by contract to include a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker, that has a COA SLP key, on the computer)

  • Windows 7 is not Genuine MIGR-75177

I am getting the dreaded  message that your version of Windows 7 is not genuine. I walked through the Lenovo support document and have talked to people at Microsoft and Lenovo for the last 5 hours. They are telling me I need to install a fresh version of Windows and that is the only way to fix the issue! This is BS and I am so pissed it's not even funny. This will be the 3rd time I will have had to do this in as many months since I have owned my machine. Any ideas how to fix this without a complete reinstall?

Ah the Windows Genuine Disadvantage.... where it's the paying customers that get shafted with silly "activation" issues....
I guess "the industry" is largely overdoing this and in the end they will be shooting themselves in the foot. While I would have bought some stuff from MS and Adobe (Visual Studio and Photoshop), their activation schemes completely put me off so I went with open source stuff like Code::Blocks and GIMP. Not because they are "free" (I can afford and I do pay for my software) but because they don't have any stupid activation scheme to deal with. I guess that after getting shafted several times more and more people will be making this choice and after getting familiar with Linux-world software, in the end the transition to Linux the OS would be an obvious and easy thing to do.

    Hi, oldcrow13.
Thank you for the response.  Typically this error is caused by installing an older verison of iTunes than you had prior.  When you installed iTunes did you download the program directly from iTunes.com, or did you use an older copy of the program on your computer?  If you used an older version or are unsure, uninstall all the components one more time and download a new copy of iTunes via the link below.

  • Local laptop seller installed Windows which is not genuine.

Hi! I claimed my hard disk warranty but my local laptop seller installed Windows which is not genuine. Do hard disk warranty also comes with original windows warranty?

No that is on the guy who installed it. I would go back to him. There is no excuse for committing what may be a felony. You can get a legal copy of the Windows 7 or Windows 8 reinstall disk online and use the Key Code on the bottom of the laptop to register it. You can have him come on here and we can link him to a place to download a legal copy and how to install it.
