Ok, so here goes. I'm having the "This [device] cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device Service is not started." problem. Yes, I know there is a support page (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1567) for this, but I have followed absolutely everything there is to follow on that page, and NOTHING IS WORKING. I even uinstalled iTunes, cleaned the registry, then reinstalled iTunes but to no avail. NOTHING IS WORKING. I am so so so so so ****** off with this whole thing!!!
Ok, if anyone is wondering, I fixed this God-**** problem. You know what I did? SIMPLE. I just uninstalled a Windows application. Dunno why, but it just kinda clashed with itunes. I was ******, and I'm still ******. LOLS. It took me half a day to figure it out. Bummerrrrrr

On my registered iTunes computer, the following message appears every time one plugs in a device and refuses to load said device to be synced: "This iPod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started". Each device has been registered onto this account and this computer, and all have worked finely in the past. I am so confused as to why now seemingly without reason, none of our apple devices (one iPod, two iPhones) are allowed to have music and other material downloaded onto them. Also, as a side note, they still are charged by plugging them into the computer, however they do not even show up on the left-hand sidebar in iTunes.
It should also be noted that for my iPhone it does not allow for the new update software to be uploaded; it just says that an error has occurred, nothing more.Try Here > AMDS > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567

My itunes is no longer recognizing my new ipod when I plug it in . I am getting a message in itunes that says, " this ipod cannot be used because the apple mobile device is not started." I have tried the troubleshooting tips but not sure what to do next. My itunes is updated to 10 and ipod has not been connected to itunes since Oct. Should I update my ipod to 6.1.3? I had this problem before. I like to disable extra services to speed up my computer and I disabled the Apple Mobile Device service and had to re-enable this.
You can do that by going Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. Once you have gone to the services window, look for Apple Mobile Device and right-click. Select "Properties". There should be some information about the service as well as the label "Startup Type" with a drop-down menu beside it. If it says "disabled", that is your problem; Change the selection to anything except disabled (Automatic is easier and ensures that you can sync as soon as itunes opens).
If this doesn't work, I would look into your anti-virus' settings. Good Luck! -
Erased all content on 3G but now won't sync with iTunes. Error states, "This iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started." I don't want phone service on this old 3G. Just want to use it as an iTouch. Any suggestions?
