Booted up into 10.3.9 after being on OS 9.2 which is on another internal drive and got a BLACK screen with this message.
etc/master password: NO SUCH file or directory
Lucky enough I was able to go back to my OS 9 drive. My 10.3 is still there on the desktop with everything in it. What am I looking at and how can I get back on my 10.3 drive? I have my OS disks and still can access my files if need be from my OS 9 drive if this can offer to any solutions.
Like everyone I have alot invested and do have most everything backed up on an external drive. **** good thing too.

Well. it would seem to me that the best way to proceed would be as follows:
You say you have backup copies of all your most important stuff.
You also say you have OS9 and OS10 installed on 2 separate hard drives.
This is not really necessary, as OS10.3 includes Classic (a perfectly functioning version of OS9).
I suggest that after making backup copies of anything else in your computer that you feel is very important, you reformat the bigger of your two internal drives, and do a complete clean re-install of 10.3.9.
Then you should just trash the other copy of OS9 so that the only thing your computer can start up from, is OS 10.
Also, avoid the "master password" thing by not setting one. I've heard many terrible stories of people forgetting the master password. IMHO a password for each user is more than enough to stop intruders getting into my computer, plus encryption software that make my most sensitive files impossible to penetrate.

Does anyone know where the iWeb data files are located or what they are called? I can't find them. I looked in Finder for files named the same as my website, but found nothing. Any help would be appreciated.
If you erased or replaced your hard drive since iWeb was cancelled, then they are gone. Otherwise, if you have maintained backups then check those.
Usually such files are in the /Home/Library/ folder or a sub-folder.
Exposing the /Home/Library/ Folder
Pick one of the following methods:
A. This method will make the folder visible permanently. Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN.
B. Click on the Desktop, press the OPTION (⌥) button, select Library from the Finder's Go menu.
C. Select Go To Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Paste the following in the path field:
~/Library
Press the Go button. -
Iweb website doesn't look good on our web server (apache2)

I made a website on iweb and then published it to a folder. I then copied the files to our web server (linux, sles9). When I viewed the files on my laptop, it looked fine. But when I put the files on the web server, it looks bad.

Why are all the spaces full of capital letter A's? It's not just that. The second page doesn't look good either. I was all happy about using iweb until I saw the results on the web server. Why is this happening?

I don't see any A's.
But if one does see such characters, it is normally because the server is (mis)configured to force all browsers to use the wrong encoding. See this note:

I recently downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader for my MacBook Air and now when I try to open a new pdf I get the Adobe logo and text in Japanese and nothing else. The pdf doesn't open. Any suggestions? I never had this problem until my cache was cleared and I had to re-install Adobe Reader. Any help would be appreciated.
Just to say I am having exactly the same issue on my MacBook Air. I can't remember what I did but after this happened a few times, and once I had clicked on the Japanese pop up, I managed to do something that now means I get the pop up in English, saying 'Adobe Reader blocked for this website'. When I click on it it asks me to trust the content and then I get a bar with the text in Japanese. Eventually the pdf does open. However it's very irritating that I have to trust every pdf individually which I never had to do before the latest upgrade, and I don't understand why I get messages in Japanese. I will be interested to see whatever answers other more technical people may provide!

After updating os to OSX 10.9.1 I can't open any new pdf files. I get a message saying It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognise. I can still read older saved files but no new ones arriving by email. Also can't attach a pdf to an email to send out. Any help would be appreciated.
Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari. -
Gui program doesn't look good with startx
I did not install a DE in arch linux, just to keep it lightweight. However, my GUI application doesn't look good running with start x.
is there any package I can install to make it look better, like fonts, visuals, or the only way is to install either KDE or GNOME desktops?If you did not install a desktop environment or one of the windows managers, and you are using startx without having created your very own ~/.xinitrc, then you are using a very simple WM called twm.
You may really want to look at the wiki documentation that was linked in your other thread -- If you are trying to stay light, there are other choices to Gnome or KDE. Look at i3, Openbox, xfce4, or any of the other beloved environments discussed at length of these forums.
Even with twm, you can install and run a screen shot program. -
I have an ipad3. I brought brought a wireless AV Box to view videos on the TV. I have tried this on both hdmi TV an can only get sound no picture. Any help would be appreciated. I am new to iPad so not too tech please.

KDE fonts under Gnome doesn't look good
Ok, most people complains about GTK fonts under KDE. I have the inverse problem, my kde apps doesn't look good into gnome.
If I run kde, the fonts are displayed properly with small size, but if I run gnome and the run a kde app, the fonts are very big.
When i run a gtk app under kde, the fonts are showed properly but it doesn't use my gnome theme.
Anyone have a solution on making kde apps looking good under gnome?Even though it's the inverse problem, it's likely still the same solution. Gnome has a Gconf setting for DPI. Otherwise you change it as an option to X. Where you do so depends on how you start up X though (startx, xdm, kdm, gdm, etc). I'll post back once I'm in Gnome and tell you where you can change the DPI.

Start firefox and get to homepage . When proceeding to another link or page firefox stops responding and I get a black screen with a colored border stating at the top of the page that mozilla is not reponding. Try to go back to home page and mozilla shuts down. Any help would be appreciated. Prefer to use firefox over internet explorer in which case the problem is not duplicated. IE9 works fine. TedI created an account just to say that firefox is not what it used to be and I'm very disappointed in it and it's developers. I've been with firefox since the day of it's launch. Every new version after firefox 2 has been a let down--- what's the point when I get the same type of ridiculous crashes and freezes? What really annoys me is when I click "new" to create a new message to send within hotmail and it freezes for about 30 seconds to a minute. This happens every time without fail! I've updated a newer version 3 times and still the same thing. I've noticed that there have been more new releases, but I'm now convinced that it's only for show--- trying to stack up to Opera. Firefox copies off of Opera a lot, but it's too bad the developers can't copy it's stability. Who wants to have to read through forums looking for a fix... who has time for that? I don't want to, but I'm really considering leaving firefox for good. Please, get it together and FIX firefox.

Apparently not. I have both an iPhone 4 and an iPad thatbive upgraded to iOS 5.0.1. While it is reported that if you click on the attached video file and hold that you will be presented a "Save Video" option, all I see is "Quick Look". Thinking it might have been GoodReader, I unknow installed GoodReader but still no option. I wonder if this yet another feature in iOS 5 that doesn't work on upgrades
