This dummy can't erase?!

OK, so I recently upgraded to Windows 7, so I had to get rid of my Photoshop 7 (full version) due to compatibility.  I purchased Photoshop Elements 8 to replace it.  I use Photoshop to color cartoons and drawings I have scanned in.  So I scan in my first drawing and have touched up any holidays in the inking.  Now I see that there are some spot and specs on the image that I want to erase.  On my old version of Photoshop I just clicked on the eraser tool and just erased all the stuff I needed to with ease.  Now no matter what I do it won't erase?!  I even created another layer thinking that you can't erase on a background layer...and nothing.  I'm not that fluent in Photoshop so I just use the basic stuff in it, but I thought I at least knew how to erase.  Could someone please walk this dummy through it?  Thank you in advance.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  I knew it was something stupid!

No way around this. Your phone has to be restored using a computer running iTunes. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

You have no choice but to restore the phone.
However, I'm sure you've been smart enough to have backed up your data before starting the most significant update in iOS history, right?

  • My mac tells me that " The disc in this drive can't be erased"

What can i do to delete whatever I have in a dvd... format it or whatever..if my mac tells me The disc in this drive can’t be erased.

Unless the DVD is a rewritable DVD, identified as DVD+RW or DVD-RW, you can't delete what's on it.

  • How can I erase or edit "Category" section in a song? And what is this section for?

How can I erase or edit "Category" section in a song? And what is this section for?

At least in my case (OS 10.7.5, iTunes 11.0.2) you can hide this (if I understand you correctly) by going to the iTunes menu bar, clicking View, then View Options.  From the drop down menu make sure that Category (under Other) isn't selected.  You'd have to do this for every playlist where you don't want "category" to appear.

No backup? Never a good idea to not maintain a backup of your important data. If you do not have a backup, follow these instructions:
By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you formatted your computer, your phone, will see your computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes(under the edit menu).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in whatever supported applications you use for contact & calendar syncing. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, itunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
That's as good as it gets without a backup of your itunes library and other important data..

  • Every time that I play a tune from my itunes the file duplicates itself into my 'MyDocuments' folder. If I delete this the song is erased from itunes totally. Ideas??

Everything worked fine for the last two years but now every time that I play a tune from my itunes the file duplicates itself into my 'MyDocuments' folder. If I delete this the song is erased from itunes totally. Ideas??

You are of course deleting the tunes from within the iTunes interface.
The settings that I am referring to are your device settings for the iPad. It should show in the left column of iTunes when your iPad is plugged in.
Go through your playlists and make sure that the tunes(s) are removed from any playlist. You can prevent the sync as noted above then do a sync and the iPad should update with the content from you Mac.

  • How do I erase an older Western Digital 1TB mirrored hard drive? Newer drives can be erased via a WD Utility, but the WD site says to "ask Apple" about the older ones.

I have a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.7.5.  The hard drive is approx. six years old - a Western Digital for Macs, mirrored with 1TB on each half.
Because the drive is "infected" with Time Machine backups that I can't erase, I have removed all important files from the drive and now want to wipe it clean.  I've done this with new drives, via the WD Utility that came with the drive, but the older drive doesn't have such a utility.  The WD site only has a protocol for PCs.
I find nothing on the Apple site itself.  Can you community members help??
(I've tried various ways of deleting the Time Machine backups, but nothing has worked.  The instructions for that, which I read on a community support site, were too advanced for me to understand.  A Mac IT guy tried to erase the backups, but he didn't know how either.  So that is why I'm erasing the drive totally.  I've learned my lesson and have a dedicated Time Machine drive now.)

    Please be clear:
This is a mirrored RAID that you use as the startup disk?
You now have a different startup disk and wish to erase the RAID mirror?
Do you wish to continue using the RAID for backup?
If all you want to do is erase the RAID to get rid or the Time Machine backups, the use Disk Utility to erase the mirror disk mounted on the Desktop.

  • Can't erase a Seagate external drive

I want to erase the usual 'PC' related files which come as standard with new drives, but as soon as I select erase it gives me the waring: Disk Erase failed with error: File system formatter failed.
I have tried to erase 2 different drives and both times I get this. Can anyone advise? Thx.

Are you interested in using the drive exclusivly with OS X, if so then I'd suggest doing  reformatting it. Format it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using Disk Utility. If you need instructions on how to do this please look over:
    http://guides.macrumors.com/Formatting_an_External_Device
    for instructions.
This is exactly what I've been doing, once I click erase it starts to show the progress bar and immediately gives the said warning.
