This file was saved in a newer version of premiere pro

I have students in our iMac video lab encountering this error on a number of workstations.  But it's not all students. Some of the students have Macs at home others have PCs. The students have CC2014 at home and our video lab has CC2014 as well. The software is up to date in the lab.
Additionally I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, but the problem still remains.

Weird things happen at times, but it definitely sounds like a case where one system is up to date and the other is not. Double check your version # in the "About Premiere Pro" box. The current version of PrPro CC is 2014.2 (aka. 8.2.) build 065. The current version of CS6 is 6.0.5 (001 (MC: 264587)).

  • "The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version." - Except it wasn't!

Last night I saved a project I've been working on for a couple of days. It's been fine all along. Today, when I went to open it, it's no longer listed in the recently opened files on startup and i get this message:
"The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version."
Except it wasn't! I use Premiere CC and it's been fine all along. I can no longer open it at all...
    Any thoughts? Very frustrating!

One more item.   In using PP CC2014 for the first time with this project, I have run into multiple issues making this project very frustrating.  When adding a sequence to the master sequence, I have to render the audio each time in order to see all of the audio waves. You have to keep doing this over and over, even though you've already rendered a sequence already.
I am getting error messages when rendering the project saying there are issues compiling the movie.  Getting same type error message if I try to export.  I narrowed it down to two sequences keeping the program from rendering without the error messages.  They each had a tiff file.  I deleted them and they rendered.  Not sure what this issue was with these particular files since I have other tiff files in the project.  Once the rendering of all sequences was done, all the individual sequences were closed and the master was the only one open.  I didn't close them.  So now to edit any of the sequences I have to go back and open them.
The only thing this project has in it are titles created in PP, a few graphics, mostly tiff tiles and some jpeg and the dissolve effect.  That's it.  Seems like they should have done more with this version before putting it out there.  Maybe that's why there are two separate applications for PP?  Who knows.  I will be uninstalling PP CC2014 when this project is complete.

  • The project was saved in a newer version of Premiere Pro and cannot be opened in this version

I edited a project on CC on one computer and saved it on my external. My friend took the same project to edit it on her computer under her own name and licence. Both of us recently upgraded to CC. But the same project that worked a few hours back on Premiere Pro CC, does not work now also on Premiere Pro CC and I received a message saying: The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version." Can you please help us.?

Reason: Your title was too long.

    Hi alexxxkid,
You should be able to import the xml into an earlier version.
Backward compatibility has never been there with Premiere and it is always recommended not to update in the middle of a project.
As far as the crash is concerned, please tell me more about it so that i can help you to the best of my knowledge.
    Thanks,
    Rameez

  • "The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version." How can I keep the projects interchangeable?

I recently updated my Premiere Pro CC at home to 2014.1 and now can't open my projects at school where they are using Premiere Pro CC 2014. (which was up to date last week) Since I don't know how long it will take for them to update all of the computers, (based on past experience) How can I make my project compatible between these 2014 versions?
I've tried to export the project as a Final Cut XML file, but didn't have luck with that.

    Hi Benjamino5,
There is no backward compatibility in Premiere Pro. It's not ever been a feature. The only way backward is by using XML but it sounds like you had problems with that. Please let us know your specific issue here: http://adobe.ly/ReportBug
I was speaking about forward compatibility. A number of people have had problems updating the project file with this version. While it should not cause too many issues, it is a general rule of thumb to never update your project file to a new version part way through a project.
It's rather unfortunate that this formerly hardcore stance (to not update project files until done) has been forgotten or is simply not known to many editors, both new and old. Updating a project file should never be done unless absolutely necessary. As a former instructor, I would make sure that all my students were aware of this potential project killing issue.
Backward compatibility is a long standing feature request. Make that in the same place as the bug report. Hope that helps.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • This project was saved on a newer version of premier pro and cannot be opened in this version

I have tried to update but to no avail. Uninstalled and reinstalled and still not opening my project. My current version is 8.0.0 (169 Build) My MBP is 8.2.09 (65Build) How do I update the PP CC 2014 on my iMac to match my MBP.
Any suggestions or solutions would be greatful.

    Hi Richard,
Thanks for your reply but the 'updates' section was grayed out and unclickable. I contacted customer support who took control of my machine and did some magic I hope. At the moment there is a full CC update going on. Not the quickest thing in the world but hopefully I'll only have to do it once and the problem should be resolved.

  • 'This project was saved in a newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro' but the project came from the exact same version??

    Hey there,
I have two computers running the exact same version of Premiere (CC 2014) and both are currently updated.
I saved the project onto the server using one computer, then when I try to open it on the other comp I get this message:
'This project was saved in a newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro and cannot be opened in this version.'
Both comps are logged into the same creative cloud account and both work fine individually...
Does anyone out there have a fix for this??
    Help would be much appreciated!!
    Thanks!
    Ben

Are you sure the updates are the exactly the same, look at the 'about' details under the help menu, are the build numbers the same:

  • This file was created with a newer version of Adobe After Effects

I downloaded the trial version of Adobe After Effects last night and spent a lot of time learning how to use the product, created my first tracking face on a body in a video.
This morning when I tried to open the project I got an error message: After Effects Error: this file was created using a newer version of After Effects [3.0 (unknown)] -- time to upgrade your application!
    What should I do?

Sounds odd. If you created it in CS6 it should open just fine in that same version. chances are that the project fiel is simply damaged. Impossible to tell without actualyl seeing the file.

  • "This project was saved in a newer version of APP and cannot be opened in this version"  NO convert option with 7.2.2 from 8.0.1

Our computers are on a network.  Another computer has a project which i need to work on.  Same CC account.  The other computer (8.0.1) saved it and I (7.2.2) tried to open it....to no avail.  I opened straight from the opening screen and tried to import it into an existing project.  Got the error message both times.  Had him save it to my local drive, and still could not open it (same error appeared).
    No converting message present.
As a side note . . . if I run updates on both machines, why are we not on the same version?

    HI CMN_Virginia,
    Welcome to Adobe forums.
If you want to open a project of a later version on a previous version Premiere Pro, you can follow the given below workflow:
-Go to the original project in the current version (say 8.0.1) where it was originally created.
-Select the Project bin and export an XML File of the same by going to File>Export>Final Cut Pro XML after selecting the entire Project bin. (Please make sure the XML if of the Project Bin and not of the Timeline as in that case you might not get the complete project in the XML)
-Save this XML Export file to a convenient location. Move this XML to the internal drive of the second machine along with all the media it contains the reference to.
(A text file will also be created next to it, delineating the details of export and reporting misses, if any)
-Now go to the other computer with previous version of Premiere  Pro (say 7.2.2) and open a new project.
-then go to File>Import and Import the XML of the project previously saved. The XML would be imported.
(Please note that the importing the XML will not load the media of the project by default. You would get the media offline message because it would be trying to find the media in the older location of the previous system. You would need to right click on the clips and choose "Link Media" and then navigate through the folder to find and connect the media).
Following the above workflow should let you open the project in a previous version of Premiere Pro.
    Thanks and regards

  • When I try to open a project it says that it has been saved with a newer version of premiere pro when I have the latest one...

this project was given to me by my work partner who works on adobe premiere pro cc but on a pc, i'm on a mac, is that the issue ?
    thanks alot

Mac or PC are not the issue.
There is Premiere CC and the newer Premiere CC14.
You cannot open CC14 in CC14 (8.0) and CC.

  • Newest version of premiere pro is not opening a project because "it was saved on a  newer version"

I have been cutting on my laptop - using up to date creative cloud version of premiere pro. Laptop too slow - so rented a desktop until i finish this gig. I downloaded the latest creative cloud aps onto the desktop including latest cc premiere pro. HOWEVER, it will not open the other project because, it says in an error message, 'the project was saved in a NEWER version of premier pro" but this version i only downloaded THIS MORNING, it's up to date. How can it have been saved on a newer version?
    Help me!
    Thanks

super weird - the project I saved it in was made indeed on 8.1.0 (81) build - is it changing the version it downloads based on the computer? The laptop is a 2011 and the desktop (8 cores with super fast video card) is 2008… so is it taking that into account and only sending this computer an older version that it thinks it deserves?
Wait - a mo - if I manually go into the updates window it DOES allow me to update the software - but the adobe download manager insists the thing is up to date… I'll let you know what happens - thank you!

  • I am in the middle of a job using CS 6, but at the same time opening the Creative Suite apps.  I created an InDesign file in CS 6, saved it, and now I can't open it. I'm getting this message: Cannot open file because it was saved with a newer version of A

I am in the middle of a job using CS 6, but at the same time opening the Creative Suite apps.  I created an InDesign file in CS 6, saved it, and now I can't open it. I'm getting this message: Cannot open file because it was saved with a newer version of Adobe InDesign CC (10.1). You must use that version or later to open the file." AARRGGHH! So how do I access the file?

Sounds like you opened and saved it in CC, so now you need to go back to CC and either complete the project there, or export to IDML to take it back into CS6.

  • Cannot open "filename" because it was saved with a newer version of Adobe InDesign CC (10.0).

I updated my whole cloud last week. Now I can't open a InDesign document saved just the day before. I get the error message:
Cannot open “filename” because it was saved with a newer version of Adobe InDesign CC (10.0).
Cannot open “filename” because it was saved with a newer version of Adobe InDesign CC (10.0). You must use that version or later to open the file. To then enable it to be opened in this version, choose save as InDesign CS4 or later, or export to IDML.
This is a document that I created in InDesign CC just last week.

    Hi Robert,
To open an INDD file in the older version (CS4-CC), you need to save it as an IDML. For CS3 & older versions, save it as an INX.
    Thanks

  • Premiere Pro version regressed? 'Cannot open as project was saved in a newer version'

    Hi folks,
Have a bit of a bad 'un here..
This week I have been using the updated Premiere Pro.. The one with the splash screen showing purple 'wireframe mountains'.
I've come into work today and the machines are back to the version with the rug/canvas thing covered in circles,  8.0.1 (21)
Now I can't open any projects I did with the 'wireframe mountains' version due to the error 'this was saved in a newer version'. Now, annoyingly in Creative cloud it tells me Premiere is up-to-date? I don't recall time-travelling into the future?
Can anyone help ? I really could do with the project files..
    Much appreciated,
    Dave,

To elaborate a bit, I've also tried the good 'ol 'import sequences' work-around, it connects to the dynamic link manager thing then does nothing..

  • When I tried to log into to itunes today, I got a message that states "cannot access library because it was saved in a newer version." I cannot figure out how to access itunes or restore it.

I tried opening itunes today and got the message that I cannot access itunes because it was saved in a newer version.I have been using itunes for 10 years and never gotten this. I cannot restore an earlier version...any suggestions?

Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

  • I have two versions of Pr, one is the latest 2014 and when trying to open a Pr2014 session, I get an error message saying the project was saved in a newer version and cannot be opened. Help

I have two versions of Pr, one is the latest 2014 and when trying to open a Pr2014 session, I get an error message saying the project was saved in a newer version and cannot be opened. Could there be an issue with an older Pr application on the computer? Please help!

You need to be very careful which project you open in which version.
For 2014 make sure its on 2014.1 build 81.
