I keep getting the above error everytime I plug in my iphone.
I am not daft, I do have the 64bit version of iTunes installed already. When I installed itunes 10.5 and more recently 10.5.1 I got an error message that rolls back a section of the installation (The updater I think) before finishing off installing iTunes.
After the installation iTunes will work normally apart from when I try to connect a device. At which point I get the title error message and I can not sync my phone.
It's probably down to Itunes not installing properly however no matter what I try I can not sort the problem out. I've tried uninstalling all apple programmes followed by a registry clean, then reinstall. I've tried the same again but in a specific order. I've tried repairing iTunes, repairing the updater etc etc. Nothing seems to work. I'm out of ideas.
Has anybody had this problem? Please can somebody tell me how to fix it!
Getting an iPad this Christmas and if I can't sync that up to my PC I may just have to go over to ANDROID!!!

Right-click the iTunes64Setup.exe, and select "Extract to iTunes64Setup". WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunes64Setup".
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does an iTunes install go through properly now?

When I plug in my iphone 4S to my 64-bit computer a error box comes up in my 64-bit itunes that reads (This iphone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Have managed to cure it based upon the following information received -
I keep having this problem with iTunes when I try to connect my iPod Touch to iTunes. I keep getting this error message: "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed".
What I did:
Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes.
I have already done this required step about a hundred times and I am still getting this same error so if you have any idea of what I can do please help.
Solution
I was running the 64-bit version if iTunes, and I did uninstall and re-install just to make sure -- no luck. Turns out there's a really easy solution, I'll spare you the detail of how I figured it out, but if you encounter the same issue, here's the solution:
1) Using WinRAR (or any other decent archiving program), extract iTunesWindows64Setup.exe
2) Right click on AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi and choose Properties.
3) Switch to the Compatibility tab and check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" box, and select your only option, "Previous versions of Windows", in the drop-down box.
4) Click OK
5) Double click the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi
6) Tell it to Repair your current installation
7) Done! -
I have a problem with connecting my iPhone to iTunes. I uninstalled one of the computer program and restart my laptop. After restart my laptop and a message said that iTunes might not working because one of the component is missing and request to reinstall the iTunes. Before connecting your phone reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem. -

This usually means that a required component is missing. Start with completely uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below. Once this is done, download and install iTunes.

Not working. The iPhone is recognized in Windows, and both the Apple Mobile Device and iPod services are running. I'm running out of options here - I managed to activate the iPhone on another computer, but I need to sync it with my own computer to make it usable.
I am running 32-bit Vista SP1 (fully updated) on a Travelmate 8200 laptop. iTunes version is the latest, obtained from Apple.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, my hair is turning gray over this.If it were me, I'd make sure to uninstall all 4 of those services mentioned in that link you provided. Then make sure you've downloaded the iTunes package from this link http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Make sure you install, and keep installed, everything in that package. In other words don't uninstall anything that the package installs. I don't know this for a fact, but I'm pretty sure that at the very least your system will need both iTunes (most recent version) and QuickTime in order for the new 3G phone to function properly. If you download from the link provided above, you should get the latest version of iTunes and QuickTime. Hope this helps.

Did you turn off all Windows & other pc-related firewalls, virus and "real-time scanning"? If necessary, d/l all software you need to the desktop and disconnect to prevent any visitors, if you are Level 6 you know all that. But I've found all the problems w/pcs & iphones/itunes have been related to defender, mcafee, etc. And your error message was one I used to get, the other was something about not being authorized even though I was signed in as administrator. Hope that helps, it worked for me.

iTunes has to contact Apple during the sync process, but iTunes can only sync the phone, if you can launch iTunes, which seems not to be the case, as "...the required software is not installed.."
And, even if I have reached level 6, please remember, that not everybody is used to phrases like "d/l" or "w/pcs", especially if your post can have more than 160 letters
