Any idea what the **** is going on here? I've uninstalled all Apple software in the correct order they suggested, except "Apple Mobile Device Support." I've uninstalled it all, rebooted, installed iTunes again (latest version) but get the same issue... This is happening for the new iPhone 4 a coworker just got. Anyone can help me solve this issue?

Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?

I have a problem with connecting my iPhone to iTunes. I uninstalled one of the computer program and restart my laptop. After restart my laptop and a message said that iTunes might not working because one of the component is missing and request to reinstall the iTunes. Hence I remove iTunes from my laptop and I reinstall iTunes to my laptop but still not working.
Before this the iTunes will automatically launch when I plug in my iPhone. But after I reinstall iTunes, it's not working. When I plug in my iphone 4S to my 64-bit computer a error box comes up in my 64-bit itunes that reads (This iphone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. I restored my iPhone 3 g to its factory settings and I tryed to connect it to iTunes on my laptop and it said This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the installer to remove iTunes. Then install iTunes again. HELP!! PLEASE!! Because I cannot get on my iPhone!!

This usually means that a required component is missing. Start with completely uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below. Once this is done, download and install iTunes.

When you uninstalled iTunes, did you uninstall it by using the article below or just uninstalled iTunes? The best practice is to remove not only iTunes, but also other associating software in the order that the first article give. Not working. The iPhone is recognized in Windows, and both the Apple Mobile Device and iPod services are running. I'm running out of options here - I managed to activate the iPhone on another computer, but I need to sync it with my own computer to make it usable.
I am running 32-bit Vista SP1 (fully updated) on a Travelmate 8200 laptop. iTunes version is the latest, obtained from Apple.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, my hair is turning gray over this.If it were me, I'd make sure to uninstall all 4 of those services mentioned in that link you provided. Then make sure you've downloaded the iTunes package from this link http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Make sure you install, and keep installed, everything in that package. In other words don't uninstall anything that the package installs. I don't know this for a fact, but I'm pretty sure that at the very least your system will need both iTunes (most recent version) and QuickTime in order for the new 3G phone to function properly. If you download from the link provided above, you should get the latest version of iTunes and QuickTime. Hope this helps.

This driving me crazy - I have done it all - read through every forum and post - inculding all here. None of them resolves my issue...
The details:
Iphone - 4 - with IOS 5.0.1 (not the 4S)
itunes version 10.5.2 64bit
Laptop - running Windows 7 home premium 64bit
(and just in case) - running Norton 360 with firewall settings for all iphone programs set to 'allways' I assume this is better than auto (yes I tried both)
I've done the lot - reset the services , start / stopped them, automatic etc etc. no joy - as soon as i plug the phone in via USB the same old message:
"this iphone cannot be used because the apple mobile device service is not started" driving me mad.
Itunes will not recognize it as a device etc. nothing - PLEASE HELP....If the issue continues after restarting AMDS, then you'll need to remove and reinstall AMDS and iTunes.

I had this problem before. I like to disable extra services to speed up my computer and I disabled the Apple Mobile Device service and had to re-enable this.
You can do that by going Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. Once you have gone to the services window, look for Apple Mobile Device and right-click. Select "Properties". There should be some information about the service as well as the label "Startup Type" with a drop-down menu beside it. If it says "disabled", that is your problem; Change the selection to anything except disabled (Automatic is easier and ensures that you can sync as soon as itunes opens).
If this doesn't work, I would look into your anti-virus' settings. Good Luck!
