"This ipod synced to another library..."

"Clicking ok will erase current content on your ipod". I've never seen this before, please help me?! I noticed that all my music is the same, yet my photos and playlists are not there anymore(on what pops up in my itunes right now) How do i even find my 'other' library I didn't know existed? I have already tried the 'shift' while clicking my itunes icon. I would restore it all, but the major problem is, there are photos on my ipod that we can't find on our backup cd's-so I need to find my original library to save the photos to laptop before I even think of trying to restore. Any help is so appreciated, thanks!

If you have multiple accounts on your computers ( or multiple computers) with iTunes installed and you plug your iPod in while on the other accounts/computers. The iPod will be synced to that library and anything from the old library will be replaced with the contents of the new one. Have you done before? If not, when did you get that iPod? If you just got it, then it might be a used iPod and the old owner's library may still be on that iPod.

  • Ipod synced with another library

The hard drive on my Mac crashed and I had it replaced.  Now, although I am using the same iTunes account as I have for years, the same one that my iPod is synched with, when I plug in my iPod to synch to iTunes it says that the iPod is synched with another iTunes library.  I don't want to loose all the songs I have on my iPod that I had copied from my original hard drive/computer, what can I do?

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • How do i copy Ipod classic songs to new computer when it says "Ipod synced with another library" and cannot find that library

Have a new PC and have a classic Ipod with about 6000 songs and had my itunes on an external HD a Maxtor One Touch II. Make a long story short the songs are not in the external HD no more songs. also looking in the C drive of the computer \My Music\itunes does not have the songs. Have checked hidden files so that I can see all the files. To make matters worse the I-tunes program on the external Maxtor was corrupted and the only way to fix it was to download a new itunes. So I wanted to repopulate the library but it appears I am not able to. Can anyone explain to me how I can copy my songs from the Ipod classic back to the library in the external HD?

I have about 6000 songs on my itunes library and i've filtered it down to 4500 on my ipod (so far) that I like and really listen to. I don't really want to go through all of that again...

  • HT1386 everytime I try to SYNC my iPod a message comes on screen saying the iPod is synced with another library why as I only have this one iPod and it's only ever been synced with one PC

Why do I keep gettin a message when trying to sync my iPod nano to mitunes this ipod is synced to another library, I have only ever had this one iPod and it's always been on the same PC

Sometimes a computer glitch wil cause that problem. You just have to restore the iPod and resync.

  • IPod Touch syncing to another library

This question involves 3 iPod touches and 1 computer! I am asking this question for my parents who are not that iTunes savy as of yet.
They both have iPod touches that were once synced to their computer. My nephew came over and hooked his iPod up to their computer a while back and now at the top it will say (my nephews name's iPod) even though his iPod is not plugged in. How can they get his name off of there? When my stepmom plugs her ipod up, she wants to see her name same as my dad. When I opened iTunes and clicked on Preferences then Devices, I see BOTH my stepmoms and Dad's iPods listed. My nephews is not listed but that same computer was used to get his iPod up and running at one point.
My folks are scared they will lose all their music if they hook up their iPod's then click the wrong thing.
Secondly when they (my parents) plug their ipods up to the computer its says their iPods are synced to another library. It gives them an option of Erase and Sync or Transfer Store Purchases. All the songs in the current library on the screen is songs my parents both added to their library. This is the CORRECT library according to them. For now, I just had them click cancel.
So my stepmom said at one point she could sign in with her login and sync her iPod and then my Dad could sync his iPod under her login name. They said he didn't have to log her out then log back in with his user email address. Could this be a problem?
Now if they each signed in with their own user and password, can they have their own separate playlists and libraries even though its on the SAME computer?
Would Erase and Sync be the best option? I recently had to use Senuti for Mac for my own iPod for a similar issue but I think that might be a bit complicated for them to learn if I suggested that option LOL!
Im trying to make this as painless as possible for them so they can get back to downloading music and apps. Even though its saying their iPods are syncing to another library, all the music on the screen MATCHES everything that is currently on their iPod's now. This is why I was pushing more for them to do an Erase and Sync.
    What are your thoughts?
    Thanks!!

  • IPod Touch "already synced with another library", Corrupt Backup?

I plugged my iPod into the only PC it's ever been plugged into today, and it came up with "This Ipod is already synced with another library" when I tried to sync it. I tried a variety of solutions I found on the internet, but none seemed to work.
So, I decided to give in and do "Erase and Sync". Before I did that, however, I created a new encrypted backup of the iPod using the option in the iPod summary window. I erased the iPod and re-synced, so it has all of my music and apps on it now.
However, whenever I try to restore from the backup, I get a message akin to "The restore cannot complete due to an error" (with no identification of the error. Immediately following this, the iPod begins to say "This iPod is already synced with another library" again, and I'm forced to start over.
The iPod is in a workable condition - all of my music and apps were saved, after all. However, none of my settings are in place, and I would really like to avoid having to set everything up again. Is there a way to un-corrupt the backup (or undo whatever has happened to it) so that I can get my settings back? Or am I out of luck?

I think that, for some reason, none of the backups that were being made are listed any longer. The only ones listed are four that have timestamps after I erased, one with the earliest timestamp that's the encrypted backup, and another without a time stamp that I'm also assuming is later. I might give that one a try, but I'm not sure that it will work...

  • HT1296 I Want to sync my iPod content to newly installed iTunes on same PC after reinstall of iTunes (but it tells me iPod is synced with another library)

After my PC crashed (MicroSoft blue screen of death), I had to re-format my hard drive, reinstall Windows 7, and ultimately re-install iTunes. I have over 7000 songs on my iPod and want to load them into iTunes, but iTunes tells me my iPod is synced with another library and wants to overwrite my data.  How do I make this new version of iTunes accept all the info on my iPod into a new library? I have authorized this computer as one of 4 of my 5 allowed (note I have authorized this same machine 3 times due to Windows upgrades and iTunes reinstall...)

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the new computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party progtam like one of those discussed here
    Copy music
    - WHen everything is on your computr connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup. Do that by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not contain synced media like apps and music.

  • My itunes says that my ipod is synced with another library when it is not and cannot update or sync without wiping it and all its data

My itunes says that my ipod is synced with another library when it is not and cannot update or sync without wiping it and all its data
    Can anyone help me

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
All media content will be erased during the first sync, but you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • ITunes thinks iPod is synced with another library

    Hello guys,
The moment I connect my iPod to iTunes it doesn't sync. That is because it thinks my iPod is synced to another library, which isn't true. How can I "tell" it that? I use the newest version of iTunes on a Windows 7 64bit pc. Help? Please?

You can tell because you received the message. You have to options:
    - Make this your syncing computer/iTunes library.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    - Or be satisfied with only being able to sync music and videos to the iPod from this library/computer. To do that you need to use the manual method included here:
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod

  • Ipod is "supposedly" synced with another library

All of a sudden when I plug in my ipod, itunes tells me I am synced with another library...I'm not, I'm synced with this library and have been using this library fine. Any ideas??

Yes, itunes database files have an ITL file extension.
Sounds like you need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and file extensions, if you aren't seeing any.
It's in Folder Options, "Show hidden files and folders"
If you find previous ITL files, you can open them with a shift-start of itunes and see if it's a usable library.
Press *AND HOLD* the shift key while starting itunes. Keep pressing until you see the prompt to choose a library. Go through the ITL files you find in your search and settle on the best one.
If you don't find any ITL files you can use, you're going to have to rebuild your library. Just because the ITL file got corrupted doesn't mean all your music files are gone - they should still be on your PC's hard drive so you can add them back into itunes. All your play lists & ratings will be gone, but you'll still have the music.
Going forward, it's a good idea to make a backup of that ITL file about every week, and ALWAYS before and itunes upgrade. I put my backup copies on a USB stick or my external hard drive.

",the owner sold the ipod without clearing the songs and since the songs were not puchased from the itunes store then i believe i now own the songs"
    Not true at all.
It does not matter where the songs came from, they are not yours and the previous owner does not own the right to distribute them to others.
The law is the same with downloads and cds and any other medium.

  • ITunes is telling me my iPad is synced to another library - how can this be?

Hopefully someone can help with this!
I just connected my iPad to my mac mini, opened iTunes, clicked "iPad", and then clicked "music".  I've been having issues with my playlists and was going to try to edit them this way.  iTunes wouldn't let me even see the music on my iPad, and instead gave me a sync option, followed by this message:
Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, TV shows, books, and tones from this iPad and sync with this iTunes library?
This is mystifying.  This computer is relatively new - bought it in February - but:
I synced my iPad to my mac mini just a few days ago, with no issues
I've backed my iPad up to this computer once already, so my library should be the same on both devices
I only have one apple id and only use one library
I've also noticed that all of my iTunes playlists have disappeared from my computer, but remain on my iPad - could these two things be connected?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your quick reply!
I just re-booted my computer and iPad, and re-transferred purchases from my iPad to my computer.
I'm getting the same error message.  I really don't want to take the risk and "erase" anything on my iPad, even if it should re-sync to the same place as it is now.
I bought some music this morning on my iPad, and it flowed to my computer without any issues, so the wi-fi sync seems to be working as it should, but my iTunes still seems to think I'm synced to another library.
I did notice that if I go to "on this iPad", I can see all of my music.  Maybe from now on I just skip the manual sync option.
This is very strange - is there any chance I could have been hacked?
Anyway, I'm about to start another discussion to find out what is going on with my playlists...
