This is a question about iTunes version 10.5

Hello,
I am running iTunes on several Mac computers (ppc and intel) with version 10.4, as well as my iPhone/iPad.  I am being frequently prompted on the computers to upgrade from version 10.4 to 10.5.
However, I do NOT want to use iCloud to store or sync any music.  Each of my machines has their own iTunes library, and I am not interested in sharing.  So, my question is:  If I upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5, will I be required to use iCloud?  Is there a way that I can run 10.5 but NOT perform any music sharing with my other computers, iPhone or iPad?
I use Mobile Me frequently.  I have not upgraded to iCloud for any other sharing functions.
I realize that once I upgrade iTunes to 10.5 - I probably cannot go back to 10.4.  So, I need a clear answer about the above concern before I attempt any upgrade.
Thank you,
Dale

iCloud signup and use is completely optional. You don't even need to open an iCloud account to run iTunes 10.5 or any of your devices, nor use iCloud if you have an account. I have iTunes 10.5 and do have an iCloud account, but I don't use it for anything other than the Find My iPad service.
Regards.

    You're welcome.
Going back to your original post:
    5) Tried running Itunes in 'safe mode', running itunes as an administrator..nothing.
Was that iTunes' safe mode as opposed to Windows' safe mode? iTunes safe mode is invoked by holding down CTRL+SHIFT immediately after clicking the icon to launch iTunes and continuing to hold until this message pops up:
Click continue, then close iTunes and reopen. With luck iTunes now opens normally every time.

  • General question about iTunes Match and multiple libraries

    Hello to everyone,
I have a general question about the iTunes Match service, which is available since yesterday in my country (Italy). Currently my library situation is the following:
Computer A (desktop, Windows 7): "big" iTunes library (about 20 GB), at the moment not associated with my Apple ID
Computer B (MacBook Air 2011): "small" iTunes library (about 5 GB), associated with my Apple ID
At the moment, both my iOS devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 2) are synchronized with the smaller library on the MacBook Air.
Question is as follows: should I subscribe to iTunes Match, would it be possible to upload the "big" library (provided I associate it with my Apple ID) to iCloud while keeping my devices synchronized with the "small" one?
Ideally, at the end of the day, the situation should be the following: both iOS devices with music from the small library + possibility of downloading songs from iCloud (coming from the big one). Is this possible?
Maybe the question sounds stupid, but I want to be sure about this before paying for the service.
    Thanks a lot.

Yes, you could also associate your larger library with iTunes match if you associated your Apple ID with it. However any purchases in the library made from another Apple ID will not be matched with iTunes much.
If both libraries are part of iTunes match, then all your devices will see all of the content from both libraries, which content you choose to have on those devices and which you have accessible via iTunes match is entirely up to you.

  • Need help: question about itunes update problem

I started up iTunes yesterday and a window popped up saying there was a new version of iTunes to update, so I did it, and now I can't save equalizer presets! The feature doesn't work at all anymore, and it used to work great. It just goes back to Manual every time, and just won't save anything you put in. This really frustrates me, as it was one of my fave things about iTunes. Can anybody tell me what happened? Can I fix it or go back to my old version without losing my library?
    Cheers

How do I make sure I don't lose my library? if i uninstall and then re-install an older version (which I have on disc), how do I make sure my library comes with me?

  • Question about Student version and CS6

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question...
So I have a question about Student&Teacher versions in CS6 - Will there be Student & Teacher version for CS6 too?
P.S Sorry if there are some grammar mistakes.
    Hope You understand!
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply Bob,
I was actually referring to this exact page ( CS5.5 Production Premium, Student) http://adobe.ly/H6so7G (non-flash version because links were redirecting) where it doesnt list the offer on the left.
However, after reading this http://store.adobe.com/store/en_us/popup/offer/cs55_cs6_faq.html and this http://store.adobe.com/store/en_us/popup/offer/cs55_cs6_faqchannel.html I'm assuming it must just be an error.
It doesnt mention anything about not including student editions and all offer pages I've seen have a link to the education store.

  • A question about itunes

I had a question reguarding itunes. Here is my situation, my computer has two hard drives, C drive and D drive. My C drive is for Windows and a few programs, my D drive is for all my files, some programs, and my music. My C drive kicked the bucket the other day and I am ordering a new hard drive. I am worried about when I reinstall itunes onto this new drive what will happen. I do not want to loose what’s on my ipod or have to re-copy all of my music and videos, not to mention the tedious process of organizing things the way I like. All my music from itunes (along with the itunes program) were on my D drive, so I still have all of that. Is there a way I can just sort of throw everything into (when I reinstall itunes) the new itunes folder, by copy and pasting? Or is there anything else I can do?

Hello, "User", and welcome to the DIscussions.
Resellers often have to send in an activation for the card before it can be used. This is to prevent shoplifting, since many such resellers have their cards just hanging on an endcap or otherwise easy to grab. If activation is necessary, it takes time for the reseller's system to get that sent in to the iTunes Store, hence the instruction on waiting. If you try to redeem the card prior to the activation being sent and registered, redeeming the card will fail and could perhaps invalidate the card..
Best to wait as you've been advised.
By the way, for future posts, the forum in which you originally posted (Feedback about Discussions) is for questions about the Discussions themselves (as the information under the big red "Please Read This Before Posting Here" said). • A question about student version upgrade

    Hi everyone,
I do know, that student version is only for noncommercial work, and while i'm just a student, i don't wanna take that risk that I might get commercial work to do, and I would't be allowed to do it.
Now what I've got in my mind, is that i would first buy cs4 design premium - student version. Then I would update it to the commercial version (CS4).
The question is, can I update CS4 student to CS4 commercial, or do I have to wait until CS5 is to be released.
And IF I can upgrade from CS4 student to CS4 commercial, does it cost the regural upgrade price? ( ~790€ ).
I know that student version has full upgrade rights, but on the "whats egible for upgrade" it doesn't mention CS4 (for obvious reasons, usually people don't want to pay to upgrade to same program they have), but somehwhere in the european FAQ (here http://www.adobe.com/uk/education/students/studentedition/faq.html ) there was mentioned this
Can I upgrade from a Student Edition?
Yes, a Student Edition can be upgraded to a commercial version.
Now it is not clearly stated, that can we upgrade from later version to more recent one, or can we upgrade recent student ver to recent commercial ver
Location: Europe, Finland, so before you north americans tell me that I can use student version for commercial work, i'd like to say that It doesn't work that way in Europe.
Thank you for your time, I hope someone has a clear ansrew to me.

  • Question about iTunes folder

I was going to copy iTunes onto my jump drive and I noticed a folder called "previous iTunes library" in my iTunes folder. What is this? Can I delete this?

You can delete it, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have another backup of your old iTunes library files. iTunes makes this backup when you upgrade iTunes. If you decide to revert back to a previous version, you need the files in the "previous" folder.

  • This is a question about the iTunes Store.  I have the correct artist, title, composer, and album name for a song popular in the 1970's.  The store's Advanced Search feature can't find any of the information.  How can I get Search to find the song I seek?

What can I try if the store's Advanced Search strikes out trying to find the song I want?

Perhaps the song is not available in MP3 format, or isn't available in the iTunes Store, or simply not available in your country. (A Norwegian band's first album from the 1980s became available in MP3 format only in April 2012; an example that not everything is automatically is available in MP3 as soon as possible.)
... and before any wag says, or even thinks "it", yes - the Norwegian band's album is very good! (Still waiting for their second album, from 1982, though!)
You may be surprised at how often a song or album is not available because of "contractual problems" - in other words, someone's being greedy, difficult, or both. (Another album I like, from a UK band of the 70's, was unavailable for a long time because - and I'm quoting the band's leader - "the copyright owner wanted too much money for the album to be on CD.")
You could try looking for the song in other stores. If it's not yet available anyhwere, you'll just have to be patient. You could try contacting the band via any websites they have, and asking them about it's availability. What's the song? Perhaps I (or soemoen else) might be able to confirm it's availability on MP3 from another source.

  • Questions about iTunes Match before subscribing

I'm thinking about signing up for iTunes Match so that I can access my music on my Apple TV without my MacBook Pro being on. I have 1,575 songs in my library and 1,275 of the are purchased from the iTunes store. Will iTunes, match all the songs inlcuding the ones I purchased or the 300 that I ripped off a CD? Also since the songs will be matched that means I can download them from any device right? Will I also be able to delete the orginial files off my computer and then download the ones that were matched? My last question is after one year and I don't re-subscribe will I still be able to keep the matched songs? Someone please help me with these questions so that I can subrscribe as soon as possible. Thank you

A search of the forum would have turned up these answers for you.
Most songs that you have purchased from the iTunes store will be identified as "purchased." Only songs that are imported into iTunes from other sources such as CD or Amazon's service are eligible to be "matched" or "uploaded." Any imported songs that are not "matched" will be "uploaded." But do not expect 100% accuracy at any rate. When you download "purchased" songs to your library, or another computer, or an iDevice you are getting the same song you already have. When you download "matched" songs you are getting the version from the iTunes store, and "uploaded" songs are obviously the same songs that are already in your iTunes library.
For imported songs that are "matched" that you might download they are yours to keep. If you choose not to renew your iTunes Match subscription nothing at all will happen to the songs that you downloaded from the store.
However, if your primary purpose is to upgraded existing music you might be disappointed in the results.

  • A Question about Driver Version #

I am confused, as usual, but this time about which Driver Version one has on one's PC. I am NOT sure, but I think that the Driver Version # given on the Creative SB A. 2 Z, which is now 02.08.0004 is NOT called that same Version # when ON your PC. IF so - isn't this ODD?
I ask this because I believe that I have already installed the above named Drivers - BUT - when I check my System Devices; Audgy 2 ZS; it shows the Driver Version as: 5.2.8.64.
Can someone PLEASE tell me IF these two are really "ONE and the SAME" or not?
    Thank YOU! Michael

What Satellite model dou you have?
As Akuma said, you can try modified drivers or drivers that are not from Toshiba. But with these drivers you could get more problems as now.
As far as I know the games need a lot of power and a Satellite notebook was not made for computer games. The Qosimo series is ideal for playing games.
If you want to play games on a Satellite notebook, you should not set high quality settings in game. It runs better when you play with lower settings.

  • A question about iTunes library access.

I just got a MacBook Air, having used iTunes for years on iPods, iPhones and an Ipod but originally on my WIndows PC which I still use as my main machine. inlcuding putting CDs onto iTunes. I have around 300 albums on there.
I cannot view my iTunes library on my Macbook although I have authorised it. I have unauthorised all 5 devices and authorised each one again, but still on my Macbook my iTunes library is empty apart from 4 tracks I bought directly on iTunes.
    Suggestions gratefully received!

The .exe files are the application files.  your Mac will have hte mac version.
    Look at this article.
Where are my iTunes files located? - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1391
Copy the whole folder, complete, to the equivalent location on the Mac (as also indicated in the article).  iTunes will then start up with your old library.

  • I'm guessing this is a question about codecs?

Hello potentially helpful Premiere Pro gods, and thank you in advance. I'm on a timeline and Google is not being helpful.
The following is regarding Premiere Pro CS6
I am trying to do something that should be simple. I know it is possible. For future reference, here is one of a million examples of what I'm trying to do (this video won't mean much until you read the rest): Shatter Me Featuring Lzzy Hale - Lindsey Stirling - YouTube
Specifically, I have a video, about 5 and a half mins long (same length as the one above).
The original files (taken using Dxtory / Lagarith codec), before they get exported by PP (below, left) are clear and readable. The one exported with the supposedly-lossless Lagarith codec (below, middle) is almost half-decent, but still well below my goal standards. The H.264 "YouTube HD 1080p 29.97" (below, right) is pitiful and unusable. Note: These screenshots are unedited but taken from a bigger picture.
My question is simple: How do I get a 5.5-minute-long video of (or very close to) the quality of the below-left picture from Premiere Pro to YouTube? The video I linked to above (professionally-made) has achieved this, and I would like to achieve it also. On that note, how does a 2-hour-long Hollywood video of perfect 1080p crystal-clear quality fit into a 12GB file, when 30 seconds of my (very basic) file exported with the far-inferior Lagarith codec sports a file size of half a GB? That is a size of 1GB per min, which would add up to 120GB for a 2-hour long film, ten-times the space Hollywood takes up in half the quality.
The second big problem is this: The frame rate noticeably decreases when the video is exported, regardless of what frame rate I set, and regardless of what codec I use. I need smooth video like the video linked-to above, and like what is in the original files.

I'm thinking we can narrow down the problem here, and I'm going to take your (very helpful) explanation step-by-step:
    Steven L. Gotz wrote:
I don't understand why you recorded at 1280X1080. The Pixel Aspect Ratio of 1.5 is not something I have even seen recorded before. Or maybe you just made the sequence wrong? Or did you actually record that way?
I have never recorded anything in 1280x1080. The source is in 1920x1058. (I recorded the window, not the whole screen, so maybe that's why its not 1080?) Below is the Windows info I see about the source files. Notice 30fps and a 1920 width. From what you're saying, its definitely looking like I made the sequence incorrectly, but I'll get to that below.
...as it is, your sequence indicates a pixels that is not square, and you are asking the software to create square pixels out of it. The quality suffers when you do that. Once you record it that way, create your sequence by right clicking on the imported media and selecting new sequence from clip. That way the sequence will perfectly match the media.
I totally understand the square pixel concept. I never knew you could create a sequence by right-clicking the source file. That sounds way better and easier than trying to match everything manually.
Next, pick a frame rate. If you record at 23.976, export at 23.976, not 29.97. If you want to export at 29.97, then record it that way.
Now to address the encoding settings. I don't remember when the bug appeared or went away, but you are possibly running into the VBR 2-Pass bug. Use a VBR 1-Pass and bump up your bitrate to over 20Mb/s.  Set the target for 20 and the maximum to 25. The encoder will use what it needs to do the job. Just give it the permission by setting it to 20 and 25. The frame size of 1920X1080 really requires more bits to describe the action properly.
If you have a lot of movement in a video, the distance of the keyframes, the frames that have all of the information, as opposed to reference information, should be put closer together than every three seconds or so. Whatever frame rate you use, put the keyframes that close together. Either 24 or 30. The current setting of 90 is fine for most things, but not fast action.
I created a sequence via the right-click method and re-did the export settings. How do these look to you? Do I need to export to a Height of 1058 instead of 1080 if my source carries that height?

  • Question about iTunes on External HD

I currently have all of my iTunes music stored and external hard drive, however the way its currently configured (which is apparently the only way it can be configured, is that the "iTunes Library" file and the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file are both still located in the 'Users>Home>Music>iTunes' folder...
In playing around a little bit in an attempt to see if it were possible to also store these files on the external HD, I moved the two files to the same folder on the external HD that the "iTunes Music" folder on the HD is was (thereby removing them from the 'Users>Home>Music>iTunes'... folder), and then I created aliases of the two files and placed them back in the 'Users>Home>Music>iTunes' folder...
This was the only way I found that enabled me to store the files on the external HD along with the music...Is this safe to do? Does anyone have any comments regarding any advantages/disadvantages of setting up things this way?
Seems to me that if there are no obvious disadvantages of this setup, then the clear advantage would be that you have those files backed up on an external HD, which would not only ensure that if your computer became corrupt/crashes that you wouldn't lose all your playlists, ratings, play counts, etc...but also that if desired, you could simply take that hard drive to another computer and create the same aliases in the 'Users>Home>Music>iTunes' folder on that computer thereby allowing you access to the music and your playlists/settings from the alternate computer (whereas not copying those two files to the HD would simply allow you to transport your music, but not your playlists and other custom data)...
Isn't this right? Or is there some catch to this method? I'd love to get some confirmation one way or the other on this issue to give me a better piece of mind about the setup.

Yes, using aliases has been proven to work fine by
many users here. Often it is used to share a library
    among multiple computers.
I'd make sure to include the library files in a
regular backup routine, just in case of corruption
issues (they are just as likely on an external drive
    than on an internal one).
I'm trying to connect my iTunes Library to 4 Macs and based on the information you provided above, it might be done with an alias folder.
    Can you explain this further?
PS Our 4 Macs are on a LAN hub and on a 8x1 FW switcher and we'd like to share iTunes among them all. The FireWire switcher will work, but it's precarious to hot switch. The LAN lines seem a better option.

  • General Question about JRE - Versions and backward compatibility etc

Could someone maybe help me with this query?
I've got a group of network users who use a total of four java applications which I am told require different versions of the Java Runtime Environment to run.
Is it therefore possible to have muliple versions of the RTE installed on one user machine to make all applications work at once or is it simply a case of having to have only one version of the JRE.
I'm talking mainly about in house applications so I guess if some of them are incompatible with the latest JRE then the answer might be to find out what the problem is and fix the application so it works in the lates jre - or am I missing something?

    Hello,
First of all, it is possible to keep several JRE installed in Windows. For example, my PC has JRE 1.3.1.8, 1.4.0.1, 1.4.2.6.
Second. A tecnology exists to cause a Windowst to run a specific JRE for a specific Java applet. Please see the text below.
    HTML Applet Configuration
The standard (Internet) method of calling Java Runtime when using a Java Applet is to use an Applet tag within the HTML file itself specifying the applet details (example below). This tries to attach itself to Microsoft Java Runtime registry CLSID as detailed above.
    <applet code=Applet1.class width="200" height="200">
Your browser does not support the <code>applet</code> tag.
    </applet>
When the above call is made either, a) the applet will load in the Microsoft Java Runtime, b) the applet will load in a particular Sun Java Runtime as its being redirected or c) the applet wont load at all as Microsoft Java Runtime isnt installed and Sun Java isnt set as default.
The above can be uncontrolled as to what version of Java (if any) is actually used to launch an applet so have an alternative solution is to us the Object tag in place of the Applet tag. Its only suitable for Internet Explorer in an internal, Intranet environment but should be ideal for us.
By replacing the Applet HTML tag with the Object tag when loading an applet you can specify in the tag either to use the latest installed version of Sun Java or a specific version by putting its CLSID in the list. (example below.)
    <OBJECT
    classid="clsid:CAFEEFAC-0014-0002-0006-ABCDEFFEDCBB"
    width="200" height="200">
    <PARAM name="code" value="Applet1.class">
    </OBJECT>
The advantage in the above approach is we can install a specific version of Java, i.e. 1.4.2.06 that doesnt redirect the Microsoft Java Runtime so wont effect other applications, and we can be safe in the knowledge that even if we install a newer version of Java on a machine that has 1.4.2.06 we wont have any backwards compatibility problems.
The Object tag is an Internet Explorer only solution, but could be scaled, as to load a different version of Java you specify a different CLSID, whether thats one of the versions of Sun Java or Microsoft Java or you can specify a CLSID that covers the latest installed version of Sun Java if you dont want to tie the application to a specific version.
Further details on the use of the Applet and Object tags can be found on the Sun website below so they may be of use if the HTML code that calls the Java applet can be easily changed to support our requirements.
