This is a Safari virus?

Every now and then Safari starts showing "**** th3 w0rld!" on its title bar.
Any ideas what this is or maybe how can I fix it?
OS X: 10.5.5
Safari: 3.1.2 (5525.20.1)

LOL!
Not a virus, but possibly a Trojan.
This can be fixed by downloading and running a freeware utility called DNSChanger Removal Tool which you can download from here:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33696
Once you have run that utility you have to re-boot your Mac, then reset Safari, and re-enter your DNS settings in System Preferences/Network.

  • Safari virus pop up ad question.

Minutes ago I encountered a pop up ad that said my computer had a virus and I should click on said pop up to remove it. I did not click on it but was unable to close Safari until I forced shut down on my computer. My macbook pro is 2012 and I am new to the Mac world so I need help. Could I still have a virus on my Mac? How would I figure this out? I have an online business and I am worried about my credit card info or other info being compromised. What is security protocol for a situation like this? I use private wifi that is supposedly locked but I live in an apartment and worry about hackers. Am I just being paranoid? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

This is not a virus, just a scam web page. See:

  • Safari virus? bestsafety14.xorg.pl

I have a strange problem. Safari now comes up with a popup message: http://www3.bestsafety14.xorg.pl Warning! Your computer is vulnerable to malware attacks. We recommend you to check your system immediately. Press OK to start the process now.
OK is the only choice! I have not pressed it, but Safari is therefore unusable. I have yet to find a way to get Safari Mobile out of this without pressing the button (until the dialog is cancelled, no Safari commands are available.)
I tried clearing caches, history and cookies in Settings, but that makes no difference.
What do you think this is, and how can I get out of it and prevent it? iPad doesn't allow you to delete the Safari app.

This isn't a virus, this is a scam popup that tries to trick Windows users into installing malicious software by pretending to be an official Windows alert. It's probably harmless to Mac users, and useless on an iPad/iPhone, since you can't download web content anyway.
Can you get to the tabs button in the bottom right corner of Safari? (The one that's one box on top of the other).
If so, just click on that and hit the red X in the top left corner to close the window.
If that doesn't resolve it, then how are you opening Safari? Did you somehow save this page as a homescreen icon? If so it will try to load that page every time you click on it and you should just delete it (delete added icons by clicking and holding down on them for a few seconds until they start to shake, then an "x" should appear above it)

  • Safari Virus - December 07, 2006

I thought this day would never come but could it be that Safari now has a virus that is quickly affecting MAC users who attempt to access the internet. First it was Safari now my mail server is timing out or unable to connect to the network. Has an official update been posted anywhere from Apple ?????

Not every mac user. I'm not having this issue with Safari. Remember - only those with issues are writing in about them. If 10% of users are having a problem - they are all going to write in. The other 90% don't need to. Be pretty boring (not to mention irritating) if they did Hi, I'm not having a problem from a bunch of folks would only clog up the works. Good luck figuring out what is slowing you down - it could be one or a couple of a miriad of issues.

Remove the extensions, redownload Safari, reload the extensions.

And if you really want a better experience, use Firefox, tons more choices and possibilities there.
Firefox's "NoScript" will block the Trojan going around on websites. Best web security you can get.

From what i understand i see that - Cookies are not transferred between your website and your webapp when installing the icon on the home screen (for authentication purposes for example). It was working until 6.1 and now it’s not working anymore.
Can someone please tell me if this bug will be fixed in any future release, if so the ticket number of some kind that i can track, or if there is a workaround for this issue?

I believe that our “Werbung problem” adds an additional second hyperlink to the pop-up window. This second link is activated whenever you trigger a saved hyperlink to a Mail.com site.
I had the same problem and eliminated it by deleting all bookmarks, hyperlinks and automatic links that take firefox to a mail.com address. So I just deleted all bookmarks I had saved for mail.com. I also changed my home page link because it also went to my email at mail.com. I then did a warm boot, opened firefox and re-saved my bookmarks and homepage to the desired addresses. Good luck.

  • Using system 10.6.8, this version of Safari 5.1.10 is no longer supported by gmail. Please upgrade to a supported browser. Updates are current. What?

I get a message in my gmail account starting two weeks ago: "This version of Safari is no longer supported. Please upgrade to asupported browser." My updates are current with Safari 5.1.10, using OS 10.6.8. No system changes have been made near that time frame. My gmail account appears to be working normally at the present time. Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core duo w/ 2GB SDRAM. Help?

To move to Safari 6 you would have to install Lion or Mountain Lion.  Perhaps try contacting Google/gmail about the issue and why they are not supporting your version of Safari.

  • I continue to get a message stating "This version of Safari is no longer supported.  Please upgrade to a supported browser."  How do I do that?

I'll start by saying I;m not real computer smart.  I need layman's terms.
I've been having issues completing transactions via Safari and based on the info I've gathered it has to do with my "no longer supported" version of Safari.  I get a statement saying "This version of Safari is no longer supported.  Please upgrade to a supported browser."  I have an iMac 3.06 GHz processor with 4 GB memory with OS X v10.6.8.
I understand I need to upgrade my Safari V5.1.10 but how do I do that?  When I click software update it says I'm updated.  Every time I do a search for Safari updates I get info for OS X & Yosemite.  However, I don't understand what exactly that is.  Just want a version of Safari that works.  Appreciate the patience of anyone that is willing to help.

    Hi
The version you using is not that old, but the upgrade is immediately required.
    Here are few available options.
    1) How to upgrade OS
    http://www.apple.com/in/osx/how-to-upgrade/
    2)
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
    3) If you are working and used to using some older applications on your computer, updating to Yosemite will create so many problems. Some of your older applications will not work anymore and you will have to upgrade them too. This = $$$$ . Maybe it will be cheaper to buy a new computer
Install Google Chrome or Opera Browser for free.

This is a scam. Do not phone these people, at best they will charge you for unnecessary 'cleaning' and at worst they will gain access to your Mac and steal your data. You've probably managed to install some 'adware' which is producing this fake warning. 'Adwaremedic' should remove it and is safe to use - please see

    Hi ,
Does anyone know why I am unable to view this webcam in Safari?

It appears fine in Firefox & IE but I only really want one browser on my computer.
Many thanks for any help on this on,

I've just posted a message on the Webcam's own forum, asking if any mac users out there can see the webcam. I've just had a reply from a Powerbook G4 user using Safari that say's he can see it perfectly.
It must be some setting on my Mac (although I have tried it under another users name with no luck also) can anyone else out there see it?

Google seem to have decided in the last week or so that Safari 5.x, which is the newest Safari version available for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) is "not supported" any more, even though there are many reasons for staying with these OS X versions.
Try this (at your own risk, but it works for me), as it seems to remove the message by tricking Gmail into thinking your Safari version is newer:
    -- Quit Safari
-- Locate the following file (location depends on your OS X version):
    OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/WebKit2.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info.pl ist
OS X 10.5 Leopard and older:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info.plist
-- Drag the file to your Mac's desktop to make a copy. Also make a safe copy somewhere else eg your Documents folder, as if you lose or mess up the file Safari will not launch at all. Having a backup browser is also recommended.
-- Double-click it to open it in TextEdit
-- Locate the CFBundleVersion value (the last line in the file that has numbers in it) and increment the second digit of it to the required version of Safari e.g. Safari 6 now seems to be the minimum version that Google support so change the second number from 5 to 6 (don't change anything else, only the change the second number). The value is different depending on your OS X version but as an example, for Snow Leopard 6534.59.10 becomes 6634.59.10
-- Drag the file back from the desktop to its original location, choose the option to replace the old version, and enter your password when prompted.
-- Run a permissions repair in Disk Utility to set the permissions in the file back to what they should be (not required, but good practice).
-- Launch Safari and test Gmail.

It sounds as though a script on the site, or an advertisement, is not working quite right...
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove the site's cookies using either of these. Save any pending work first.
While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
