This is getting annoying (display/startup)

well last week i sent my macbook off to have the casing replaced. that turned out great and i'm happy with THOSE results. well since i got it back yesterday, i have to reset the PRAM EVERYTIME I STARTUP. i thought great. so i read threads stating the only way to fix it is to re install OSX from scratch (i'm really trying to avoid this.
I fumble with my mac a little more and do a system update and get the new 10.4.8. Well ever since this installation my macbook works normal again. No rsetting PRAM.
BUT...
Now everytime i start up the display brightness AUTOMATICALLY goes to high and doesnt stay at the setting i set it as.....and ideas?

if you get the same problem again, you can find the explanation and easier solutions many places in this forum.
For some reason, the p-r resetting messes up the default screen settings, and sometimes the default start-disk settings.
You can manually reset these to settings in systemsettings in the screen settings pane (choose a different scrren setting, and then set it back to the default setting again) and start-up disk pane (choose the systemfolder on your local harddisk).
So...if it happens again, you dont have to reinstall at all.

ok i tried that copypodphoto thing and it only is a trial version. and i dont have like 15 bucks for the full version. so i didnt get that. i just gave up and had it delete all my photos so i can put the other photos from my other computer to my ipod. and before it has a chance to transfer, it stops, saying that i has "not enough access privlages for this operation". this is getting really annoying. please help me. and i cant update because it wont download from the website. it keeps pausing at like 5% done. it never gets downloaded. pLEAS HELP!!

This is getting annoying... Am I mistreating this thing?

Since i've gotten my laptop in june two years ago, its been off and on problems. First I had the hardrive replaced, it quit on me. Afterward I had a logic board replacement, shortly followed by a fan replacement. And everything sailed smooth for awhile. Then the dreaded "red light" appeared in the sound port, with no true solution except a logic board replacement. So I shrugged that off and dealt with no speakers up until now. Now when I boot up it takes at least 5 minutes to get to the blue screen, then it skips back to the white loading screen, turns yellow, then freezes. Whats happening? My home is unusually dusty (3 pets, 3 kids, lots of fabrics as my mother is a seamstress) so could that be causing this?
I'm actually afraid to call apple in yet again for fear of being accused of mistreating my laptop and having my warranty void for it... What should I do? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Not sure if you tried an erase and install of the OS. If you have tried that and problems still exist I do recommend that you take it to the Apple Store. They will not accuse you of mistreating your computer if you explain to them that you take care of it. I have seen some, not a lot, computers give their owners problems and headaches throughout its life span. Tell them how much you take care of the computer and how frustrated with its issues and maybe they will give you a surprise.

Where does "Skype Comunity" get the display name?

I just registered to the support comunity forums and wondering from where this site gets my display name. I have never entered it myself. I have no options to change it. I have no confirmation emails. The other weird thing is that this name is corresponding to one of my email boxes never revealed to skype. What is that all about??? Could someone kindly explain please.

I'm working on the project but the Telecom team is asking for this information. I can only guess on the reasons why he needs this information at this point. I do know he asked for it and deemed it "necessary." Hence the question to the boards. My PoC in Telecom is administering the MDM.

How can I get the Display Profile list to update with new profile names?

I recently created a couple of color profiles with a calibration device, and I decided to manually rename the color profiles after creating them. The problem is, when I open Displays in the control panel, the new names for the profiles don't show up, only the old names. To get the Display Profile to update, I have to pull the profile out of Library > Color Syncs and restart (which clears the profile from the list), then put the renamed profile back in, restart (which then adds the renamed profile to the list)
Is there an easier way to to this, to get the Display Profile list to update? Is there a preference or cache somewhere?

Oh, cool! I never handle any Mayan stuff in my job, but many of my academic cohort have done so. Mostly Tzotzil.
Anyhow: your sample font was Times New Roman. If you can't see the combining glyphs, then you're using an out-of-date version of the font, or something else is wrong. . Did you maybe start your work on a contemporary version of Word in WIndows, and now you've shifted to using a Mac with an older version of Office? THere are plenty of nulls in TNR (which are usually codepoints not in Unicode, usually a sign of some kind of hacky workaround on the part ofthe font designer). There should be a real combining macron below right about here, in between the crazy upper Latin and the Greek caps :
So I'd want to know: what font are you using for this? If not TNR, then I'd suggest Gentium. I might even suggest dropping TNR for Gentium. Judging by your screen name, you may well already be aware of SIL. If not - oh hey, they make fonts for people who are in your shoes! Go check 'em out. The fonts are free, and pretty reliable. And Gentium may already have a precomposed with-line-below glyph for your typesetting needs.
The Kerning dropdown lets you adjust the spacing between letters in a letter-by-letter way. Selecting all of your text and picking "Metrics" is the way to go here - unless you are a designer who thinks that the capital D is way too far away from the lowercase i, and want to tweak the kerning manually. "Optical" is for large font sizes where body-text-style kerning is too spacious. Avoid using it at small font sizes.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion's Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

Firefox will not save my user name and password for one of my sites. How can I fix this problem. It is getting annoying having to reenter every time I check this site. Is there a solution.

I had my user name and password saved for my library site. My grandson hit something and now the saved user name and password are gone. It asks me every time to enter it and it is getting annoying. How do I fix this. I want Firefox to remember these codes.

You can create a bookmark with the JavaScript code via a right-click on the "Remember Password" link on the squarefree.com website and choose "Bookmark This Link" and select the "Bookmarks Toolbar" as the destination folder for easy access.

My iphone 5 has been saying this for days now. Yes I have recently purchased a motorola ear piece for easy talking while walking, but i have also used a 10ft cord purchased at walmart for months now and no display before the motorola. now even without anything plugged in ,I still get the display message on my phone saying" the cord or accessory is not capitable with this iphone and may not be reliable with this iphone.
what DO I do ?! is there something I can do without going to either Sprint or Apple for help.... will this be damaging to my iphone ?! HELP before its too late.

Try resetting your iPhone. Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds till the Apple logo appears.

There is a little white bar. When you have your TV connected, move the white bar to the other display. Your main desktop is now the TV screen

This error is generally specific to Internet Explorer and has two possible causes. The most likely explanation is that your browser has unusual browser security settings. I would recommend you try
resetting your security settings to defaults (varies by version but all essentially the same). You may also have to turn off
Protected Mode which is enabled by default on some systems. If you’re seeing this error (or a version of it) outside Internet Explorer, you may have a server-level setting that is preventing your content from being framed.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

When the prompt pops up next time you start iPhoto select Learn more. Then click on iPhoto preferences and select the Accounts tab. Delete your MM account and the quit iPhoto. Next time you open iPhoto the problem should be eliminated.

I, am now getting annoyed with i-cloud. I had an express lane discussion with your support group earlier this morning after discovering that the cloud icon wasn't next to music in the left hand side bar.

I, have spent considerable time trying to connect my i-pod touch wirelessly with no success untill I saw on the i-tunes store tab that my i-tunes match was not turned on. I clicked to turn it on and I was asked to add this computer which I have already done. I talked to the Apple support group and they talked me through the set up through add this computer again! But sure enough it worked I had the cloud icon next to music in the left hand side bar and in the store tab i-tune match was turned on and everything seemed to be working.
I, looked again less than half an hour later and i-tunes match was turned off again. I began to turn it on again and now I get asked to pay the i-cloud subscription. How is this resolved?
