This is getting beyond ridiculous - iTunes install errors

While attempting to update iTunes to 10.1.2 using Apple Software Update, I received an error - "Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools > Download Only and try installing manually."
So I downloaded the installer and attempted to update manually. I received another error message - "The installation of iTunes did not complete successfully. iTunes requires QuickTime." And then the installer quit, saying nothing had been modified.
This happens *every single time* I attempt to update iTunes. I find it ridiculous in the extreme that I should be forced to uninstall both QuickTime and iTunes in order to update to the latest version. Apple must look into this issue and rectify the situation. I am sure Mac users don't have this problem. What must be done in order to properly update iTunes to 10.1.2?

Haven't thought about the antivirus program. I might disable it (after disconnecting from the Internet, natch) and try installing that way.
At work, I also use iTunes and QuickTime. Company policy permits their use and installation, and the company allows non-administrative users to install it, but with the caveat that they (the user) must keep it updated. If they don't, it gets pulled from the PC. So if the iTunes update won't actually update the software, then I wind up getting it yanked. (That obviously doesn't happen on my home PC.) And when my company yanks it, it does so incompletely, meaning there are little pieces of program stuck on the computer that cannot be manually removed. It's a mess. So I'd rather Apple just do their job and put out an update that actually works, rather than me going through the whole rigamarole of uninstalling and re-installing, or having a wonky work computer because the update doesn't work.
Apple software techs, are you listening? I need an answer!

no problems with ITunes on Dell Inspiron Windows 7 until yesterday.  ITunes version 11.0.2.  iphone won't connect stating required software is not installed.  uninstall and install 64 bit version of iTunes.  I have 64 bit version already.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled 5 times already.  When re-installing ITunes get error message c:\programdata\34be82c4-e596-4e99-a191-52c6199ebf6\x64\difxinst64.exe.  file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. please install or create an association in the Default Programs control panel.   iTunes install continues after the difxinst64.exe error message but then get the iphone cannot be used error message again.  therefore, I can't sync my iphone with iTunes until I figure this out.
can't win for losing.  had iTunes on my windows 7 laptop for 4 years.  first time I've ever encountered this.

I am a PC Tech and had a customer with this issue. Ran across this post in my search and ended up finding the solution on my own. The problem isn't with the iTunes software but the installer for the GEARAspi drivers. Really the issues is with the file type asssociations in the windows registry. On the system I was working on the HKCR key for .exe should point to the exefile key but pointed to nothing. To fix it create a new txt document and paste the following in (only paste what is in between the

tags):
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe]
@="exefile"
"Content Type"="application/x-msdownload"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe\PersistentHandler]
@="{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"
Now change the extension from .txt to .reg. Then right click and select merge. iTunes should now install properly.

• ITunes install errors: MSVCR80.dll and Error 7 (windows error 126)

All of a sudden my iTunes stopped working, and I get the following error messages:
1. the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem
and
2. iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).
Now I've checked the forums and followed the advice of uninstalling all Apple applications, rebooting, and reinstalling iTunes.
This is not working. I've tried installing as Administrator but doesn't make any difference at all.
There must be a way to fix this? I'm not a tech geek but I want to avoid having to take my laptop back to factory settings to sort this out.
Thanks

ITunes tried to automatically update today and failed and then I was also getting the MSVCR80.dll error
After trying many things I finally removed all Apple software
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
I was then able to finally successfully install the latest version of iTunes and the software installed correctly and the error went away.
I hope this works for you as well.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post:

• HT1420 itunes install error in Vista

I (sadly) have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 and no matter what I try, I cannot install iTunes (9, 10, OR 11) successfully. I get an error that is very non-descript, stating my installation could not be completed. Period. No error number, nothing. Screenshot for your pleasure:
I have disabled my Norton Anti-Virus and "Smart Firewall" for the install, but that doesn't matter. And I tried re-installing. Same results.
Is there a way to view and shop at iTunes via my browser (IE8) without installing itunes program?
I thoroughly hate my operating system, and I only need to get onto iTunes to download the songs I want from the American show "The Voice".
It's very sad that there are people who cannot use their social media to vote for the contestants because iTunes and Vista64 aren't friendly.
Ok, aside from my rant, does anyone have direct links or help I can try?
Thanks!

However, when I attempt to open said file, I get this message: Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
Try doing a disk check on the drive that that file is located on.
Go "Start > Computer", select Properties, and in the Tools tab click "Error checking".
Does the disk check find/repair any damage? If so, does an iTunes install go through properly afterwards?

This week I started getting a pop up message saying "ITunes was not properly installed, etc." Is there any easy way to fix this problem or do I need to uninstall and reinstall? If I go the un/reinstall route, will I lose all loaded and purchased music? Also, how to I keep my IPod from losing all the songs on it when I reconnect it for the first time? Thanks for any help!

what's the precise text of your error message? (there's a couple of different ones i'm thinking of that you might possibly be getting.)

• Itunes installing error????????????????

encountered a network error when trying to read from file C:\Windows\Installer\ApplesoftwareUpdate.msi.
holy what is this pops up evry time i try to install itunes and then the installer just close.
can any one help ?

hmmmmm. that's not an especially common error message.
okay, we'll try a strategy that can be helpful with other error messages referencing itunes.msi files.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?

• Help!!! iTunes install error "Apple Mobile Device Service Failed To Start". Error 7 (Windows Error 193)

Help! Following a standard upgrade I got the error message "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows Error 193).
I am running Windows 7 and installing again brings the message "Apple Mobile Device Service failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services"
I have uninstalled everything Apple, deleted all related folders and run as administrator numerous times with no luck.
I had hoped that iTunes 12.1.2 would resolve the issue, unfortunately it failed to do so leaving me iTunes free which is driving me mad!
Can anyone advise what else I can do to resolve the error and bring back iTunes?
Thanks

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version, or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

• Getting "certificate server is installed" error when attempting demote of server 2012

Currently, we are testing server 2012 in our environment and using a 180 day trial version. Wanting to remove the complex password account restriction, I noticed that all removal options are grayed out, as the trial server is listed as a domain controller
(although no accounts have been setup and no one is logging onto it).
Using the "remove roles and features" option, I attempted to uninstall the active directory certificate services (after unchecking the box), but received a warning that the server must be demoted. Ok.
So, now I follow through the process, check the "last domain controller" checkbox (I had previously checked the "force demotion" but that failed) and click the "demote" button.
Fine.
One would expect that the server would be demoted, it would reboot and all would be just as requested.
No such luck.
Received a "certificate server is installed" error and the demotion will not proceed. Tried it several more times with the same results. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Dan David

First if you plan on using this in a production environment ever you can't convert a evaluation license to a full license if the Domain controller role is installed.
domain controllers have their own default policy, for just the opposite of what you are trying to do, it leaves the domain controllers hardened if someone changes the default domain policy, if you still have a stable server you should be able to go
to the group policy management and adjust the security policy on the "default domain controller" policy.
It sounds like you may have a server that is in a unstable state not a dc but it thinks it is may be? if that is the case starting over may be a fastest way to correct.

• New itunes install error - Installation package could not be opened. Verify

I Just bought a brand new computer last night. I am trying to install Itunes and get the following error. "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists ad that you can access it, or contacnt the applicaiton vendor to verify that this is avalid windows installer package"
I am running windows 7 64 bit home premium. I have verified that i have downloaded the correct itunes version itunes64setup.exe
So far i have tried
-downloading and installing all microsoft updates
-disabled all anti virus and firewall software,
-rebooting and re-downloading
-tried installing quicktime first. (gives me the same error)
-stopping and restarting windows installer
-deleted all items from the temp folder
-tried running itunes64setup.exe as admin and also in compatibility mode
-verified i have downloaded itunes64setup.exe with IE 64 bit
I am at a loss. I can not find any real solution for this problem. I am now 5 hours into trying to find an answer. This is a brand new computer and I have installed no other programs on it than what came out of the box.
Any help would be greatly appriciated!!

Well if anyone else runs into this problem, this is how i got it fixed.
I did a complete system restore to the origional factory default on the computer. I would not have thought that this would have been needed as it was brand new out of the box with nothing downloaded/changed on it.
However it worked. The only thing I can thing of, is that on the origional factory install of the software there may have been a corrupt or missing file that when I did a new install corected itself.
If you have the origional windows disk that came with the computer I would use that to completely reinstall windows. If you are like me and they didnt provide you a disk, I made a complete backup of the system to disk and made a recovery disk just to be safe before restoring the system.
Hopefully this is helpfull to someone.

• ITunes install error for windows! How do I fix?

When I try to install itunes I get the following error:
Error 1406. Could not write value to key \Software\Classes\.cdda\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel.
How do I fix this problem.
Thanks!

You may have a problem with your registry permissions.
Sometimes creating another administrator account and installing from there may work around this.
Apple have this article on the registry key mentioned in your error:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2294?viewlocale=en_US
Otherwise try method 3 in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377/en-us
It is quite complicated to do, so follow the method carefully, the script can take quite a long time to run so be patient with it.
