This is getting to be an annoyance ..

Every time I download something from the web,
be it a program, or even just a .wave file,
I lose my iSight camera.
I've tried the usual solutions posted
on this forum, and the only thing that "fixes" it
is shutting down my Macbook Pro, taking off the battery,
disconnecting the a/c power, waiting a few minutes, then
putting it all back again.
But this is only a temporary fix.
The next time I download something,
i lose my iSight camera again.
Isn't there a permanent fix for this?

It is difficult to offer you meaningful help when information you provide that may effect your issue is not accurate. I assume you mean a "Safe Boot" or "start in Safe Mode".

This is NOT how you do a Safe Boot.
Follow the instructions in Starting up in Safe Mode.
Item 2 there, "Press the power button.", means "press and release the power button". Do NOT hold the power button down at startup.

... another application using iSight. I was in Safe Mode.
Unless you are an OS X or Unix expert or you get specific instructions to the contrary from a knowledgeable source, do not do anything other than restart while in Safe Boot mode or you risk leaving the Safe Boot actions unfinished.
Please re-read my my maintenance link. When you do safe boot properly, you should not launch anything. After you see your desktop for a few seconds, do a normal restart to finish the Safe Boot operations.

Your "converter box" is one of the "external accessories" I asked about in my post earlier today. I will not repeat my previous comments or requests for information. However, if you want help here, I think you should at least try the suggestions that have been offered.
And I thought Macs were supposed to be EASY??
They are. However, as with any computer, there is some learning curve, especially for those accustomed to using a PC. Moreover, as with any computer, you must operate your Mac in accordance with its instructions in order for it to work properly.
If I am misinterpreting your post in any of these places, please excuse me. However, if you have difficulty following Apple's instructions or the suggestions you get in Apple Discussions, it may be quicker and easier for you to contact an Apple-Authorized Service Provider or a consultant who specializes in Macs for in-person assistance.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. the iphone 4S has been in recovery mode for a long time and i have tried to press and hold the power and home buttons until the apple symbols comes on the screen again but it stay on the screen until the screen turns off and doesn't come back on to the home screen and have tried to sync with mac and doesn't do anything it does display the itunes and cable icons for a while but then goes back to the apple symbol and doers nothing what can I do to fix this and not loose what is on the phone at all?

Try reinstalling OS X. What version did you have installed? If it's Snow Leopard do this:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

But when I try exporting the movie again it creates the ICMMultiPassStorage file again. I have made sure my scratch disks are set to my external hard drive so I know that isn't the issue. How do I fix this problem so these temporary files are not being stored on my internal hard drive instead of my external?Thanks!

Try exporting the timeline "using current settings" via Make QuickTime Movie, then submit that clip to Compressor for the transcode. This should be faster and less painful.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion's Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

My phone is deleting my contacts at random. one minute ill have a contact than I'll message them and than my phone deletes them and its just a number. how can i stop this and get my contacts back?

since getting my new phone i had to send it out for repair. after only 2 weeks of having the phone. i got a loner phone and restored my phone to the loner, but than a few days after getting this loner phone my phone started deleting my contacts. i couldn't find them and i know i had them. than i turned off my iCloud for contacts thinking that would help. it never. my phone started deleting numbers as i would use them, like i would select a contact message them than right after i hit send that contact got deleted. i figured it was just the loner phone, but since getting my phone back and restoring it it too is deleting my contacts. any way to stop this and get my contacts back?

It appears that you are using iCloud to sync your contacts, is that correct? Other than turning off iCloud for contacts and then turning it back on again, what other troubleshooting steps have you tried?
