This is probably a simple solution, but, so far, not for me.

I have a MacBook running Tiger. I moved my iTunes Library to an external HD. iTunes works fine for me, but I'd like all the accounts on my machine to be able to access iTunes easily. I've repaired permissions, changed permissions, etc. all to no avail. My sons and wife cannot use my iTunes library.
Is there a simple setting I can use so that all the accounts on my MacBook can use, listen to, add to and access my iTunes library? Any help is appreciated.

Where is your iTunes Library file located? For your purposes, it should be in the ~user/Music/iTunes folder. If you moved it to the eHD, you should ideally copy that file (and iTunes Music Library.xml) back to your Mac, then launch iTunes with the Option key pressed down, then Choose Library.., then point to where you moved it back to.
The basic principle is this : if you want all users to have their own playlists etc, then everyone needs their own iTunes Library file, preferably in their own user account, in the Music/iTunes folder.

Finally, if you are having problems with permissions on an external drive, I'm wondering how it is formatted? If in MS-DOS FAT32 it MAY be the cause of your problem, in which case you should back up everything on there and reformat to Mac OS X Extended.

    Hi there - There is probably a simple fix to this - and it probably doesn't even matter, but I'm curious. When I attach an exported file to an email, it is attaching as a picture of the document, rather than as an icon with the document's name. The thing is, it used to attach as the icon and not the actual document. I know it probably doesn't matter, but I liked it better when attaching the icon representing the doc. I've probably hit a button or flipped a switch I didn't know I hit or flipped, but where is it and how can I reset it? Thanks a lot!

    I may not have understood the original question. The comment and action James has posted would relate to whether a file would View in Place as you compose -- it does not impact what is sent.
    However, I thought you were describing the file Icon as having a Preview or Thumbnail, and not a full View in Place? If a file has a photo-like thumbnail, it is the result of the saving of the file, and not something in Mail.
    Please clarify?

  • Entered Wrong Email Address  : Help Needed - Probably a Simple Solution But Driving Us Crazy

    Recently, when signing into a website I have used successfully many times - I accidentally typed in the last few letters of my email address wrongly ( email address and password are required to log on to the site) Now I can't access the site at all because I enter my correct email address when asked,  but as soon as I move down to enter my password...the email address reverts back to the one I typed in wrongly and of course the site dosent recognize me. I have turned off and on my auto fill thing, cleared my cookies, reset Safari, tried all the simple things I know but they haven't worked. I suspect the solution will be an easy one for those that know more than I do ( which isn't alot!) and would be grateful for some quick advice!

    Depends on what input plug you'll be using on your TV. VGA, DVI, Composite or HDMI. You'll need a Mini-DVI adapter and a cable from that to your TV.     If you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.

    Press "Command P" and when the Print dialogue box comes up, towards the bottom there is an option allowing you to choose the text size, i.e: small, med, large.

    Actually, another person on the "more like this" had the right answer. It meant I had a notification for an invite that I needed to respond to.

When playing the song it will kirt move to the next song. How can I get it to download again or get my money back? It does this whether I'm on my ipod touch, laptop, shuffle, etc.

    I'm a fairly new video (80gb) iPod owner and I have some questions about tv output.
    I've been trying to output some subtitled avi files to my television, and the subtitles are getting cut off on the sides and some on the bottom.
    The best result I got was cropping a 16:9 format .h264 640x352 file with 14 pixels on the top and bottom, then all of the subs were visible, but the characters were stretched and squatty (as expected, since I do not have a 16:9 television).
    The video files in question are in 640x480 resolution divx format, and if displayed using another media player on the television (such as one for the ps2 or xbox media center), they display fine with subtitles intact.
    The fact that they are getting "blown up" over the screen size of the tv, even at 640x480 tells me that this is probably an overscan problem, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to get these videos to display properly on my tv?
    My next thought was to try cropping the sides of a 16:9 format to make things look closer to 4:3 with borders on all sides, as that would be preferable to having the subtitles cut off.

    hi, yeh i had the same problem as u, it would say that the usb is unknown, and yeh it is because u are using the wrong cable.
    i had tried, for instance dwnloading the driver n stuff, eventually i found out it was because its the wrong cable, u see i had a previous cable for an old nokia phone, and i mistakly used that instead of the new one. once i plugged in the new cable although they both luked the same, it wrked. u sud luk up the type of cable ur phone takes.

    Regarding 1st issue: it could be that new firmware is already installed.
    Look on page 3 of release notes (http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/security/content_security/RAID_controller_firmware_update/raid_firmware_upgrade_release_notes.pdf)
    After you run the firmware upgrade, the firmware upgrade package will display in the list of available upgrades even after a successful installation. The presence of this package does not indicate a failed upgrade.
    Step8
    To verify that the upgrade has run successfully, you can run the upgrade script again after the machine has rebooted. If the upgrade was successful, the upgrade script will indicate that the appliance does not require upgrading
    Regarding your second issue: upgrading software:
    - do you have internet connectivity to update servers (maybe check upstream proxy settings..)
    - what's your current software version running (did you check upgrade path)? maybe you need first to upgrade to 753 or some other version..
    - maybe reboot will solve the problem?

    I am doing an effect for a friends video where a UFO is hanging in the air. I have tweaked the look of the 'Pulsing Laser Star' to what I want, however, the camera pans from the actors face to the light. I can't figure out how to already have it there. it's always births from nothing. I have tried setting the birthrate to 0 and the initial number up but that doesn't do it. I haven't used Motion all that much but I liked the look of this particle. Probably something simple. Can anyone offer any advice?

    I have one table. In this table there are 5 fields for arguments sake:
    COLUMN_ONE COLUMN_TWO COLUMN_THREE COLUMN_FOUR COLUMN_FIVE
    On this table there will be duplicate records, but only column 1, column 2 and column 3 on these "duplicate" records will be the same, column 4 will differ (column 4 is not a unique identifier, but if there are duplicate records it will be different between at least 2 records). Column 5 is not yet populated, it's all null.
    I need a way of updating column 5 on these duplicate records. However, I would only like to update it on one of the records and the criteria for this will be where column_4 = 'hello.'
    So far I've came up with a update statement similar to the following but I don't know where to with it:
    UPDATE DANS_TABLE
    SET COLUMN_five = 'DUPLICATE'
    WHERE EXISTS (SELECT column_one||column_two||column_three, COUNT(*)
    FROM DANS_TABLE
    GROUP BY column_one||column_two||column_three

  • HT5772 How do you delete a movie from a local computer without deleting it from the library?  This should be such a simple procedure, but it's not. And while we're at it, why is iTunes NOT one of the dropdown product choices?

    All Apple support says about deleting movies from a computer is that you "should" be able to re-download it if you live in the right area.  Well, I'm in the U.S.A. and just deleted one of the movie extra features exactly as described in the support directions.  According to Apple I should be able to re-download this from the cloud at any time, but now I no longer even see the title listed.  That's why I wanted to test their support statements with a Movie Extra instedad of a real movie.  This should be the simplest of tasks to manage, yet they make it extremely difficult.  Why?  I own the movies and I want them to stay in my iTunes library basically forever.  Makes sense, right?  But, I only have so much room on my laptop to store movies that I want to have with me on long trips, etc.  So if I only have the space to store 3 or 4 movies on the disk, shouldn't I have the ability to every once in a while delete one of those movies from my local computer ONLY, NOT my library, so that I can download a different movie?  Yet the first thing iTunes does when you hit the delete key is tell you that it will remove the movie forever from all devices and the library.  So why does support say you can download again any time from the cloud then?  The worse part is, the calamity doesnt stop there.  Wait until you see the message you actually get once you say that yes, you do want to delete the movie (but only because you assume that you really can download it again sometime).  Here is the exact 2 messages you get from Apple, in the same popup box.
    Do you want to move the selected movie to the Recycle Bin, or keep it in the iTunes Media Folder?
    Only files in the iTunes Media Folder will be moved to the Recycle Bin.
    [Cancel]  [Move to the Recycle Bin]  [Keep File]
    Is that the most confusing popup or what?  Who develops this kind of software?!?!?! 
    I have tried it both ways and the only difference is that the file shows up in the Recycle Bin or doesn't.  But in both cases the file name no longer shows in the movie list, so I don't know how to re-download it from the Cloud.  Better hey, if I clicked "Keep File", where is it?  I can't see it anywhere, so where is it kept and what can I actually do with it?
    I have to be honest, I love my iPhone and some of the neat features, but when it comes to iTunes, I have never seen a more difficult piece of software to use in my life... and I'm a software developer.  Your Support documentation is actually more confusing than the softwae itself, it's almost as if you don't want people to use the software, just simply buy stuff and listen/watch it, but nothing else.  Seriously, this is the most cumbersome, unfriendly piece of software I've ever seen.  What does it say about Apple iTunes when everyone has to google solutions for how to do something rather than using Apple support documentation.
    Seriously disappointed in Apple iTunes and it's never really gotten any better over time.  This is one of the primary reasons I have never moved all of my recording studios and office operations over to an Apple platform.  Hardware and phones are awesome, but your software is either grossly incompetent or intentionally designed to make it all but impossible to use.  Either way, it's worthless to me. We're talking about software that does nothing else but manage media that I already own on multiple devices.  That should be one of the simplest things in the world to do.  Sad... very sad.
    While we're at it.... why isn't iTunes listed on the product dropdown below?  Maybe it's not even considered a product, which would explain it's goofiness I guess.

    iTunes prefs > Store > Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.
    This will show all your iTunes purchases in your library with a cloud icon down arrow. Click the icon to redownload or click on Play to stream without downloading.

    and techncially, you don't "own" the movie, You simply have a license to use it.
    Yet the first thing iTunes does when you hit the delete key is tell you that it will remove the movie forever from all devices and the library.
    Actually, no it does not tell you that.
    FYI: You should keep copies of all yoru iTnue spurahses as the labels/movie studios/copyright owners can pull their product at anytime and it won't be available to redownload.

    I am working on a spreadsheet to help keep track of my finances but cannot figure out one very important formula. Heres an example of what i want to do. In cell A1, I've got the balance of my auto loan. In column C I've got a drop down menu of various bill; in the adjacent column i enter the amount I've paid towards that bill for that month. So when I select "Auto Loan" from the pull down menu, i want it to subtract the amount in the adjacent column from the amount in A1. I've tried using the VLOOKUP formula, however, this only returns one value, even when there is more than one cell with the matching criteria. I need it to return the sum of these cells.

    I'm not sure how your table is formatted, but I thought this might illustrate a solution. I'm assuming that columns C contains all manner of daily expenses, food, clothing gas utilities, etc. I'm also assuming you are interested only in the "current" balance of you car payments, not intermediate balances from the initial amount. The formula is:
