  • This is a Very Good Mastering App - Free!

    Hi there ...
I recently discovered this app. I used it on my already mastered stereo GarageBand files and noticed a very professional result ...
Especially on a funk number ... there is more punch, presence, and eveness of dynamics ... but not robbed of them ..
It is very subtle and transparent ... but obviously quite powerful ...
I have not yet used it on an umastered track ... but I assume the results would be even more dramatic ...
It is a combination of compression .. normalization .. and limiting ...
    Have a look at ...

I'm working on a job app, and they ask for personal references, not former employers or family. This is kind of hard for me as I am putting internships, some volunteer work, my consulting down as experience. I have letters of recommendation from 2 clients, and one place I interned at (as the other is where I'm applying).
I'm just not sure what I should do for personal references maybe use a teacher or two from college, maybe a friend or classmate? A friend or neighbor maybe I did some small computer job for maybe? I don't know if I need to somehow make it tech related or they are looking more for something else in these reference.

  • Is mac keeper really that good?

I currently use Tech Tool Deluxe but am considering purchasing Mac Keeper. Is this application really that good? I know that "good" has many interpretations but overall, I'm interested in hearing peoples' feedback on the app in general. Thanks!

Search the forums, you will find the consensus that Mackeeper is not a good idea. Not a good idea at all.
As far as I can tell, this product is a combination of new interfaces for standard mac stuff (e.g., they have a Login Items interface for crying out loud) and a bunch of utilities you might need if you were running windows but which, generally speaking, are completely unnecessary for the typical user.
In fact, it seems to me that, unless you have some very specific problems, "system utilities" are unnecessary and principally aimed at a former windows-user market.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    Then GULP, check for this...
Flashback - Detect and remove the uprising Mac OS X Trojan...
    http://www.mac-and-i.net/2012/04/flashback-detect-and-remove-uprising.html
In order to avoid detection, the installer will first look for the presence of some antivirus tools and other utilities that might be present on a power user's system, which according to F-Secure include the following:
    /Library/Little Snitch
    /Developer/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode
    /Applications/VirusBarrier X6.app
    /Applications/iAntiVirus/iAntiVirus.app
    /Applications/avast!.app
    /Applications/ClamXav.app
    /Applications/HTTPScoop.app
    /Applications/Packet Peeper.app
If these tools are found, then the malware deletes itself in an attempt to prevent detection by those who have the means and capability to do so. Many malware programs use this behavior, as was seen in others such as the Tsunami malware bot.

  • I have seen this problem here and other forums but I need some clarity.

    Hey-
(Sorry for the quick post, but I wanted to get this out there before I take off across the country so I might have some help when I am in NY by some help on here.)
I purchased my first iPod this past Christmas. it was the iPod Nano 6 gen. I did a ton of research, read many post on various forums, and all the negative comments (except one) I felt I could live without, because I had not gotten use to any configuration of the Nano and the complaints seemed to not affect needing the Nano for exercising.
The main problem with not being able to turn the Nano off or at least get it to a state where very little power was used seemed to be what was causing so much strife among new users. I thought I would read the posts, do some research, read the little manual that came with the Nano and the larger manual online at apple.com and figure out how Apple meant for this machine to be "turned off."
I charged the pup up when I got it, changed my earphones to the new in the earphones and headed off to the gym. Since I had already done a considerable amount of research and played around with it to become familiar with the buttons and all before I it the gym, I felt I was OK to go for a workout. Since this was my very firs iPod, I had some challenges in synching the machine wit iTunes. I think I just need to understand the whole synch process ad probably do it manually. I turned the machine on when I got to the gym, got some tunes playing and hit the sleep/wake button so it would be a dark screen and save as much power as possible. I was actually shocked at how much power was used during the hour workout, especially since I did not play wit it at all during the workout.
After the workout, I had learned from some people who were a bit more patient with finding oiut the best way to get the machine to use the least amount of power until their next use of the Nano. so, I turned the volume all the way down, paused the music that was playing, removed the earphones from the jack, and pressed the sleep/wake button in hopes I would have some power the next time I went to use it, which was the next day. That first workout it used about ½ of the battery icon and when I went to turn it on the next day for another workout I was shocked to see ¼ of the battery still charged.
so, my questions or the main question is, despite all of my research on how the company meant for this machine to be put to sleep in-between uses, despite what I mentioned above what I did, is there any latest new from Apple out about why the battery hold such a crappy charge? Even following what the major Nano manual stated and even Applecare, the battery energy loss between one day was a shocker. I have read where people have not experienced this problem, but my question is does anybody know how Apple recommends that one leave the Nano when it is not in use? I understand it goes into a deep sleep after something like 36 hours, which seems insane to pick 36 hours. Also, if anybody has been able to figure out how Apple has built this machine to be put to sleep, I would really appreciate some help here.
I have heard from many people that they can't have the Nano go to an off position because of the clock but come-on, there are many other tech devices that have a clock and are able to be put to sleep. You can still make a device to be put to sleep and still get the little energy it needs to keep the battery charged.
any help in this area would be greatly appreciated. Let me recap on what I have learned from my research to do when not in use to keep as much energy as possible. First, make sure the volume is all the way down by the sound "waves" are not coming out of the display speaker make sure whatever is playing is on pause, make sue the pedometer is off, unplug the earphones, press the sleep/wake bottom and your good to go until you use it next. However this does not keep my battery from drawing a significant amount of power so that I have a decent amount of power for the next workout. I can't believe this is such an issue when the earlier Nanos had much more uses and must have needed much more power to even keep things working during the Sleep time.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you on a dialup connection, using Web acceleration software?
If so, try disabling the web accelerator. Does the download go through for you properly then?

  • Is 24" iMac really any good?

I know this is a vague question but hang with me.
I am about to buy a 24" iMac and decided to look on these forums first to check if there are any problems with them.
I have now read all sorts of horror stories regarding the screen (too bright/dead pixels/dark corners/etc...) Various problems with humming and misc noises coming from inside the Mac, and issues with audio quality output.
One of the main reasons for going for a new machine is Boot Camp. Now having read the Boot Camp forum it seems the 24 incher just won't work at all with the latest beta of Boot Camp.
Can I start a straw poll of owners with new 24" iMacs - are they any good? Are you happy with them? Is it the fact that we only heaar about the duff ones on these forums, or is it that a large percentage are inferior/faulty/unsatisfactory.
    Your thoughts/recommendations/experiences would be welcomed.
    Thanks

I was going to post a new topic with this but I will post it here instead.
I am on my second iMac in as many weeks, but this one is two hours old and it I am yet to find a fault with it.
My first iMac had a single green stuck pixel, I called apple and they replaced it and where very good.
I collected my new one about 3 hours ago from TNT and got it home. Took it out the box and notice the packaging was damaged and thought Oh god here we go...
Turnt it on and spent 5 minutes looking at every single pixel on the display then I saw a single black dot.. luckily it was just a bit of dust!
I booted it up, had trouble with setting up the keyboard, it just didnt work first time, But I got over that. Mouse was a doddle to set up! (both wireless)
Now it is just working perfectly! Wireless is working great, iSight and Photobooth are fantastic! (I love the effects!!) The speakers are VERY good for a device that is so thin!
I am yet to try a movie or DVD at the moment I am just playing with it, getting it configured and what not.
There are dark corners on the display, but its really nothing to worry about. You dont really notice them, you just need to look really hard to find them.
There is also a very important factor which many over look. It smells nice!!
They keyboard is great, quiet and responsive, its white and I am a little scared of making it dirty!! it just looks so good. The mouse is a little heavy but I am just used to using a decent gaming mouse from my pc which is very light.
Overall when you get a proper working one it works great, peforms fast and does exactly what it says on the tin.
I dont get the so called brightness buzz, if I do, the noise from my PC is overpowering it and stopping me from hearing it so its really nothing to worry about.
I was worried about the problems described here when I ordered but the thing is, this is a user support forum, IE the only people who are going to post are the ones with problems. If you get your mac and your not happy then call Apple as soon as possible and they will do every effort to ensure they get it fixed!

  • TV (video) output from new nano looks very good!

Just a comment for those who may be wondering how the video quality on the new iPod nano looks when output to a TV. I have one of the old iPod AV docks with the s-video port and the new nano seems to work fine with that combination (using a standard s-video cable between the dock and the TV). Thus far I'm really impressed with the video quality, I can't see a single problem, the color is good, the quality and sharpness is as good as I've seen from any iTunes Store content, and as far as I can tell the frame rate is fine (no stuttering, skipped frames, or problems with audio sync). I'm amazed that such high quality video can come from such a small device. If it continues to look this good (after viewing more content and after more testing) then I think Apple may have "hit one out of the park." This thing could turn out to be the most popular iPod yet (if you have any interested in video and still want a small device).

I just found out that the video out (TV) on the new nano supports video playlists so you can create playlists for back-to-back display on the TV. Not even the AppleTV will do that (even though the latter has been a highly requested feature for the AppleTV since day one). In fact, if you can do without the on-TV menus you may find that the nano is a better video output device than is the AppleTV (that is, the menus system on the nano doesn't appear on the TV output).
Also, I just competed a few hours of video playback to my big-screen TV from the nano and I'm still impressed. No video problems at all, looks very good considering the quality limitation from the content that is currently on the iTunes Store (limited to standard definition, no HD movies, HD TV, or HD music videos as yet).

  • Please fix your web plugin immediately, yes this message in the right forum

    Ok.
On my mac, java takes about 5-10 seconds to load in a web page applet from either safari or chrome.
This is 4.9 to 9.9 seconds too long.
PC is a bit faster but not much.
Sun absolutely wrecked java with respect to the web-client.
    Please fix this.
Why: Because I want to write web-apps which don't suck. Which means I can't use javascript. Because despite the gajillions of money poured into marketing, it is really very, very slow.
    How to fix:
    It is very easy.
    1. Use PhoneME with JIT. (get startup time to near zero). You might say, "well, we're about to get java to have zero startup time." But this is what you have been saying for ever, and failing at, miserably! Stop trying, give us a JavaME plugin instead.
    2. Do NOT distribute monolithic massive class libraries. Instead, give me the opportunity to create class loaders. (I know you think you already do, but please look up the 10 year old bugs regarding the web plugin and class loaders). Make the distributable as SMALL as possible.
    3. Are you writing the pluginin "in-between" code in webkit? If you are, fire who ever is writing it. If you aren't, WTF, the connection between the browser and java is slow as a slug. If I was just a bit more of a cynic I would think google is putting in usleep(1000) between calls. Take this code over NOW.
Look, you STILL have a tremendous opportunity in the web-client-space.
You need to show that Java is BETTER than javascript. Which it could be.
    But currently it sucks.
It uses too much memory, it has a slow startup time, the connection between javascript and java is slow.
I should be able to write <script type="jar.pack.gz/java" src="blahblah.jar.pack.gz"></script> and multiply my performance by a thousand. Please do it.
I should be able to use a java2javascript library to simplify modifying the dom.
I shouldn't have to write javascript, except for inline code.
BUT INSTEAD I'M SPENDING MY TIME OPTIMIZING GWT.
Javascript sucks, we all know it is rising because of a vacuum of any real performance.
Please fill this void, or someone else will.
    Thanks,
    -tim

  • I thought the N95 was a very good telephone, but.....

Battery: This is really bad. I charge the telephone minimum twice a day. Still it happens I run out of battery, just because I'm very often mobile without access to power. Did anyone claim it's a mobile phone?
More on battery: Complaining that it's really bad, people would say "Don't use GPS", "Don't use Bluetooth", "Don't use WLAN", "Don't use 3G", "Don't use the camera". Well, If I should not use these functions, why do I then need a N95?
Memory: Not adequate. I quite often see this "Memory full close some applications and try again". I check which applications I can close, and find my only application open is Web... Happens quite often opening the camera lens too.
Web: All these factory bookmarks nuisance me. It's not possible to delete them. Along with other problems, I'm now happy as I switched to Opera Mini 4..
Camera: I thought it was good... but the delay from pressing the shutter until the picture is taken, can give you some surprises.
    Clock: Missing a simple timer..
Calendar alarm: Could I have just a small notification? No.
PC Suite: I’m that kind of user that would like to control it myself. I did specific that is should not start automatically. But every time I start it, it tries to fool me! The tick “File -> Invoke at startup” is back again. Uuurrrrgggg!!
Errors: I guess my phone switches itself off once a week. A "white screen of death"
    SMS: No smiley's :-)
    SMS/MMS: Why can't I forward as mail?
So what is good about N96? On the paper, it looks good.
Who is it suited for? Only geeks wanting to experience.

A workaround is to use the timer in Sports Tracker by Nokia, but there is no alarm when it has expired.
If you want an alarm you need to enter a one-shot alarm with the end time (rather than duration).

I have to agree with the points you make, but to me it's still an amazing phone and I'm prepared to put up with its weaknesses.

In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first.

This is a user to user help forum only so no one here can answer regarding what AppleCare or an Apple Store will do in this situation. Every warranty claim is on a case by case basis. If a fellow user tells you - sure Apple will exchange your iPhone and Apple doesn't exchange it due to the accidental damage, what you are told here carries no weight in this regard.
