This is sort of a useless forum

I posted about a week ago about losing text & BBM messages after updating. This was not a vital issue for me, but two others have posted desparate appeals. They have followed KB work-around advice, and it hasn't worked. Over 200 members of this forum have glanced at their appeals ...and contibuted exactly NO help. NOBODY from BB has addressed their issues, offering neither further advice nor an apology for BB's goof up re this system update.
I know from two year's experience with my PlayBook that BB is TERRIBLE at communication, TERRIBLE at providing timely answers to users pulling their hair out over some hardware/software issue. BB just doesn't get it that they would earn scads of brownie points, and tamp down a lot of user anger, by just having a few competent staff charged with monitoring relevent forums and providing timely answers or timely advice regarding likely timelines on solutions.
BB is sinking, and their lack of support and communication skills is part of their problem. Microsoft has their problems, too, but when I post in MS forums, it is highly likely that a 'Microsoft MVP' will post a substantive response within hours. WHY IN HELL DOESN'T BB 'GET IT', AND FOLLOW SUIT?!
But, isn't the idea of a community forum that when BB doesn't come through, then knowledgeable forum members will offer advice and support to other members who have big problems?? Then, forum members, where are the offers of help for djdemeno and tbhh? At last count, 224 members have looked at the thread I started, "Did system update--lost all texts and BBM texts", and apart from Vicious Ferret, NOBODY has offered any help or advice. That doesn't say much for the members of this forum, does it?

fastartcee, you do know all of the forum members here are volunteer, not employees of nor compensated by BlackBerry for our participation. I personally know several of the active users, and like myself, have real jobs, real families and real lives to tend to. So, we don't get around to each and every post.
And, the 224+ views on your thread, please understand those are not all from forum member views. Most, probably 75% of the views are from internet "spiders" such as Google analytics and various search engine indexing programs, i.e., simply robots.
If you look at the top ten active posters around the forum, you'll find a total of 300,000 posts... lots of love there for volunteers who just like to help others.
Could the fourms be better? Yep.

I have tried signing out and in, still does not work.
Still just get the previously mentioned "messages".
I wanted to restore, but then you have to turn off "find my ipad/iphone" but this is not allowed, as I cannot connect to the itunes/icloud or app store. The units work with current apps. EG; email etc, and with apps that do not require current updates.

Same issue on my wife's iPhone 4S. I suspect it is related to the recent 6.1.2 iOS update (Note: I have a 3S and the update did not cause any issues).
I've tested both bottom and top mics on the 4S using video recorder and both mics work fine. Speakerphone and headset during calls also work fine. The issue is only related to the bottom mic while making calls. I can hear the caller but the caller cannot hear me. If I hold the mic very close to my mouth, the caller can hear a very low level signal.
The problem appears to be software related, not hardware.

When will this get sorted?

I've been with BT for a number of years and had Broadband with them too. But I have never had a decent connection. I can't even watch YouTube because the connection is so poor. I've tried various things after getting in touch with BT and nothing ever changes.
The last time I spoke to someone I was told my service would improve once the local exchange upgrades to fribre optics. That was supposed to happen over 6 months ago and still nothing has changed. What's the point of paying for Broadband when I'm obviously not getting what I pay for.
I find it difficult to make a call to BT with this problem because there is always communication problems between me and the operater and normally these conversations can go on for an hour or more. I'm willing to pay for an engineer to come out and have a look but I can't find on the website how to do that. I can't even find an email address to send this request. Which is why I'm on this forum.
I wonder if this will ever get sorted out.

Useless Forums

The Adobe Photoshop forums seem to be more down then up these days,
rendering them almost useless. I am also noticing that cfusion forums are
working just fine. Does this mean that we are *again* to look forward to a
switch over to the other format??!

Actually this is a good thing. They will be making all the formats across
forums consistent with each other. Right now it is as you know different,
especially between the former Macromedia products.
It will be good. Really :)... and likely the last major shift in years to

(sorry, I'm writing a novel here. Below is a quick summary of the problem, a complete account of the issue follows.)
What the HECK is going on?! It seems like somehow information being transferred from my DVD drive isn't properly making it to the HD, or the CD's aren't properly being read. The drive obviously isn't the problem as I replaced it with a brand new one. All my drivers are completely up-to-date. Other than this I haven't made any HW changes that could account for this. I'm mystified and a bit worried as to what could be the problem. IDE controller failure maybe? At this point I fear the motherboard has, after a month, decided to become defective.

OK so here's the issue: about a month ago I upgrated this system's motherboard, processor and RAM. I had some annoying issues with getting windows to recognize the DVD-ROM drive during installation but a fresh install took care of those and it's worked perfectly ever since.
But earlier this week, suddenly my DVD drive stopped working on me AND when I plugged my iPod into the firewire port to charge it and tried to start the computer it would POST but Windows locked in the kernel loading screen and wouldn't successfully boot.
So, thinking it a power supply issue, I replaced both the power supply (formerly a 330W Enermax) and the DVD drive.
I switched both components out and today I have the exact same issue with the DVD drive. My thinking is now that the problem is with Windows, not the hardware...maybe even a virus. I fiddle with Windows unsuccessfully and even try a repair installation. That falls through when partway through the install process setup suddenly refuses to copy files from the CD to the HD, even though it finds them right on the CD! (talk about annoying). Windows gives no reason, it just says it can't copy the files and tells me to check the location.
At that point I say "screw it," format one of my drives with unimportant info on it, and do a clean XP install. Everything goes fine and I get on the internet, install SP2, the latest mobo drivers, video drivers, etc etc etc.
BUT...when I begin installing things from the CD, namely Office2000 and Battlefield Vietnam, Windows begins to tell me either that it can't find files on the CD again (office2K) or that files being copied are failing CRC checks and that I should check the installation media (BFVN)

I was reading my manual again and it said something about disableing IDE Prefetch if you have after market interfaces ....I'm assuming some other PCI card or unique drivers....
Should I have that Disabled?

This sort of rings a bell with me as I just finished my new system (as described in my sig) and used a WD 120gb IDE from the older system, but in the older system I had been running it in a master-slave configured channel and *I'd forgotten* that the WD drives have a unique "single-drive" jumper config that is *different* from the standard "master" jumper config when used in a pair of drives on one IDE channel. So...I installed the drive with the jumper set to "master" even though it was stand-alone on IDE 0, and as a result experienced a very slow boot--when it would boot at all, that is--and data corruption exactly as you describe. I went right to the jumpers, though, because while the symptoms are typical of a couple of things, among them is *the wrong jumper settings* for the drives. (Heh, once long ago in a similar experience it took me entirely too long to realize that things weren't working out because for the whole time I had been reading the jumper schematic *upside down* without realizing it--I felt pretty foolish after that (but it taught a good lesson)... So check those jumpers ...
The only other causes I have ever seen that mimic the symptoms you're getting are these:
(1) Careless overclocking of something in the system
(2) Bad ram
(3) A bad hard drive
One other thing I noticed when setting up my K8N2P a couple of days ago was that initially I could not boot into the Windows desktop, but could only boot after a blue-screen lock into a safe mode GUI. It was pretty annoying for a couple of hours until I discovered something about the 1.3 bios settings relative to the K8N2's IDE bus configuration. In every other system I've seen, if both the PIO and the UDMA bios settings are set to "auto" then as long as you have the right cable in play the bios will correctly negotiate the drives' operational mode and will set it automatically so that even if you have *no drive* connected as an IDE slave, for instance, but have the secondary PIO and UDMA selectors at "auto" booting should not be a problem.
But in this one case--that was the problem as it turns out. I had no drive as slave on IDE zero--only my boot drive set to stand-alone "master"--but until I set the UDMA mode in the bios tp "disabled" for the slave on IDE 0 the system simply refused to boot into Windows! Also, as well, as my two CD drives are PIO 4 I also had to set *them* in the bios to "auto" for for PIO but *disabled* for UDMA. IE, for some reason the system simply wasn't auto-configuring the IDE *UDMA* channels properly. Since I *manually* adjusted the bios UDMA settings to their proper state for these devices I've been booting into WindowsXP SP2 ever since without a single reoccurance of the problem.
Only thing that comes to mind is *cabling and jumpers*--I'm now wondering if the bios is looking for cable select instead of the traditional config. I'll probably look at that tomorrw--it's late and gotta' go!....

Is this Bubble sort? How can I test it?

Would someone please confirm that this snippet of code uses the bubble sort algorithm to sort the array it receives? Also, would there be any difference in functionality, efficiency or otherwise if I rewrote the same method using recursion? I would also appreciate it if someone could suggest some test cases to test this code as I am not sure how I can go about doing that.

Efficiency: No. The algorithm is still O(n^2). It will use more stack, and might be a tiny bit slower, but you won't be able to see the difference.

What reaction, if any, can we expect from Verizon in regards to the T-Mobile program to pay early cancellations fees? (This is sort of a 2-part question)

A brief rundown here...over the last 7 or 8 years, I've had 2 carriers, T-Mobile, with whom I was pretty happy and then Verizon for the majority of that time, due to a friend of mine working there. He is no longer with the company, however. Here's the dilemma. Today, I managed to slam my Samsung Brightside in a car door (jacket pocket, jacket not all the way out) and the sole redeeming feature of that otherwise useless phone is that it took repeated drops to the floor really well. I have probably dropped that thing more than my previous 4 phones combined and maybe squared.
Anyway, the long and short of it is that the Brightside is no longer under the 12 month warranty and it doesn't look like I really have any good options here, aside from trying to hunt down a used one and suffering through another year of a phone I increasingly detest. If I have to get a smartphone, I may as well look at making a move to whoever is going to charge me less for services fees, etc. and right now that is T-Mobile. The basic questions here are: is Verizon going to get to be price competitive and for my particular situation, what can Verizon do for me specifically?
I will be in a Verizon store tomorrow, but a few of the deals that are attractive seem to also be internet only. I am looking to be back in order tomorrow, one way or the other, as my phone is not really functional at all, so if anyone at Verizon has some answers or solutions to keep me in the house of Big Red, I'd love to hear them...quick.

Well first off unless you had the supplement insurance verizon will not replace a phone broke in a car door. That is physical damage and is not covered.
At present you can use if qualified the device payment plan which is full price spread out over 12 months with so much down and the rest paid over the year. There is a $2 fee per month for this plan. However if you have unlimited data etc on the plan now you keep it. That is a plus for many customers.
You can use the edge plan, you pay so much and after a certain time frame after paying half the phone cost you can trade in the phone and get a new super doper phone, again you pay so much down and can do this over and over. However if you have unlimited data you lose it. The cost of data is very expensive and read the posts here about problems with actual usage versus what was never used before.
Or you can pay full price for the device or get another device from a friend or buy a cheap device from a place off the net.
