This is what I want... how do I do it?
I want to have all of my family devices, multiple iphones, multiple ipads, multiple macs all share the same photo library and same photo stream and be able to view that content on apple tv (which apparently requires one icloud account). And also I want to have all of the devices share a music library.
... but I don't want ALL of these devices to share contacts, or app downloads, or browser history in safari, etc. I want MY iphone, ipad, laptop to share those things, but not anyone else. And vice versa, they want to share those things with THEIR iphone, ipad, laptop... but not mine.
So there is sharing, but selective sharing.
It seems like Apple has provided and absolutely brilliant cross device solution for single people with one itunes account, and one icloud account. But the majority of Apple users don't fall under this category.
Why doesn't Apple have a system where you select what is pushed and to what devices under one family of devices to select from? It would seem very useful.

First you import by going to file>import, or... just click on the "import media" icon on the left side of the interface.
The import media dialogue box opens. (Assuming your camera is plugged into your Mac) The camera will appear in the upper left. Select your camera (in this example, I have NO camera attached, save for my internal Mac "facetime" camera)
Then... just click on the "create archive" button in the lower left-hand side of the dialogue box:
FCPX will begin to build your archive files. Your archive is stored on your HD. Later you can import directly from those archives, opening the same dialogue box.
BTW: You can change the name of your events. It does NOT have to follow a date / time scheme.

I had all my photos neatly in events on the MAC; with this new upgrade, all photos are renamed by location not what I want; how do I change this back?

Now, with this upgrade, all my photos are without my event names and named by iphoto by date and location (sometimes incorrect). I do not like this at all. I want to return to my events. How can I do this??

Moments in Photos are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.
When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there was a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N. Name it as desired. It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
The downside to the simulation is that the Albums/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. But they can also be sorted manually, either in the sidebar or in the folder's window at the right.

Hi. I am on a real big budget here and i am planning ways around this so here goes.
I need to set up a network which will being 100% network based. So users login with accounts being held on the Main server etc.
This is what i want to do. Get a Mac Pro and put OSX SERVER ON IT. This will be my main server. On this server all the admin work such as PA's accounts and accountants etc. I no this can be done and the home directory is on the main server (what i call the control server)
I then want to get aload of Dell PowerEdge SC440 servers and shove aload of 750GB HDS in them at hardware raid 1.
Is it possible to set these up by installing CENTOS on them and via samba or any other protoal call, can there account home directories be on this these servers. EG. the graphics artists would say have an account which there home directory would be on one of the dells servers. We really cant afford a Xserve raid and also if my way is possible it is some much cheaper and its more reduntant. EG If one server fails, the entire network doesn't go down.

I'm talking about the Dell PowerEdge SC440's. That makes no sense whatsoever.
Why deal with the bloat of an entire OS, just to try to use the PowerEdge SC440's onboard RAID controller ? o.O
There is very very probably NO way to present any drives in those Dell's to another machine, via fibre-channel. Seriously. They must be hosted by an OS, and that OS will need to be configured for services, fqdn & dns entries, sharepoints, users & groups & priveleges, etc.
If you really do want to do that (so far I'm seeing zero reasons for it), and essentially re-share NFS or CIFS shares for home folders for users on your OS X Server, then let me say this:
Hire a consultant to help you save yourself endless amounts of wasted money (time is money when you start losing lots of time, no matter your budget), and countless numbers of administrative headaches. I don't think you've thought this through from start to finish, no offense intended.
Here's the last of my free advice:
Instead of what you're proposing, consider an Xserve (unless you have no proper dedicated server space and/or no server rack) - but you DO still need a proper climate-controlled space (heat & humidity) for whatever box you choose.

(Ps on iMac 20 inch (it's almost full - 320 GB) when I enter time machine, a tab comes up on finder which reads "Time Machine backups" it's able to be ejected like a disc or a connected device. On the iMac 20 inch, I dragged some files onto there as if using it like a hard drive. Is this the correct method? Then I went to my 27inch iMac and saw the "Time Machine Backups" hoping to see the files I dragged from the 20inch iMac. But the files were not there except a folder that said "Backups.backupdb". Can someone help me?

It's not a good idea to use a network disk for both Time Machine backups and other things. By design Time Machine will eventually consume all the space on its output disk, which will then cause problem for your other files. I'd store those other files on an external disk connected to the Time Capsule. The problem with that is that Time Machine will only back up files that are local to your Mac. That means that you'll only have one copy of the files on or attached to your Time Capsule.
By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your message into the field intended for the subject. In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that.

When you set up your Mac you had to enter a admin password to set up your user account.
If you did not enter one then try using the "blank window" as your password. ie Just hit return with nothing entered.

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.
