This item requeires  a later version of iTunes to purchase

This is the error message I get when trying to buy certain albums. I am running win 2000 and I have installed the latest update which is only 7.3.2.6.
This is p!ssing me off. So basically apple is telling me if I want to continue to buy anything from them upgrade my OS?? If that's the case that sounds like a bad business model. Anyone know of anything I can do besides throwing my ipod in the trash

So basically apple is telling me if I want to continue to buy anything from them upgrade my OS??
And yes, that's basically true; you may (at least for now) be able to purchase the standard copy- protected music, but you won't be able to buy any iTunes Plus tracks and may have problems with videos and movies.
Even Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows 2000 in their current software; Office 2007 requires Windows XP at minimum. Windows 2000 was superseded almost eight years ago now, so it should come as no big surprise that new software no longer supports it. It's your choice; if you want to stay with your current version of Windows, you're going to find more and more software that won't run for you. As ed pointed out, there are alternatives to purchasing from the iTunes Store. And of course you can buy the physical CDs and import them yourself.

  • How to delete a photo album from iPhone using a new hard drive & a later version of iTunes

I'm using the same computer but with a new hard drive and a later version of iTunes. I previously loaded a photo folder from my PC to my iPhone, but I inadvertently did it twice, giving each folder a different name -- "Photo Library," and "Widget Photo Folder." Of course, I also have the "Camera Roll" folder on my iPhone. I now want to delete either the "Photo Library" or the "Widget Photo Folder" from my iPhone. On iTunes in the Photo tab, I don't have the option of deselecting the folder in my PC that I previously synced. Apparently, iTunes recognizes that the privious sync was not done with the new hard drive? How, then, do I remove one of the photo folders from the iPhone?

You CANNOT delete photo album.  ALL pics synced to iphone are oin photo library.  Those exact same photos, NOT duplicates, can be accessed from the individual albums.
This is how Apple handles photos.
Just as a song is in a playlist and in the library ( there is only one song, simply two ways to access it), photos are in the library and the same photos can be accessed from the album.

  • HT201407 new iphone 5 and 4 year old macbook, and for some reason my computer says a later version of itunes is required to use iphone to sync.  updated most recent version possible and still can not sync to iphone.

new iphone 5 and 4 year old macbook, and for some reason my computer says a later version of iTunes is required.  So, i went to ITunes and found i have the latest version availble at this time.  iTunes say phone can not be synced because it requires a version of 10.7 or greater?

iPhone 5 requires OS X 10.6.8 & iTunes 10.7 or greater. I suspect you're running Leopard, 10.5.8, correct? If so, you will first have to update your OS, then iTunes in order to sync your phone.

  • Can't install due to later version of iTunes already installed

When I attempt to install the Airport software, I receive an error message that says the installation will not continue because a later version of iTunes is already installed.
I am running Windows Vista and iTunes 7.2.
    Can anyone help me?

I am hoping that by posting here this topic will become current again. My situation is exactly as described below; new computer, attempted to install airport express from install disc; get fatal error b/c I'm running later (7.2) version of itunes. Tried installing from English folder, which appeared to work, but no Airport Express Assistant shows up for configuration purposes. Any suggestions?
Vital Stats: Vista Ultimate, Linksys Wireless g w/speed booster router (also new and working for all other purposes), itunes 7.2, hope to use for air-tunes as I had done w/ my old computer.

  • A later version of itunes is already installed.Even when trying to unistall

I can't update itunes and i can't unistall itunes everytime i try, i get the message 'A later version of itunes is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue'.
I've tried to manually unistall itunes but that doesn't work.
I've google'd the problem but no one seems to have had this problem.
Does anyone at all have any idea, how to i can resolve this issue???

Did you do all the steps in the scond article recommended by Jason? It would help if you explained exaclty what steps you have taken.
Usually this issue is solved by cleaning up the installer files with the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. Did you do That?
In case it helps here is a step by step method for removal of iTunes, installer clean up and reinstall.
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
    Vista
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305409
If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • A later version of iTunes is already installed.

This is the error I get trying to install the latest iTunes.
"A later version of iTunes is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue."
Since 7.3 IS the latest version, this message is in error.
I have removed iTunes, I have removed Quicktime, I have deleted files, I have deleted registry entries, I have used the Windows Installer Cleaup Utility.
Now I don't have iTunes, and can not install any version of it.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Ruin

Fair enough ... but they shouldn't be there. I just launched my CleanUp and saw no blanks up the top.
Before approaching them, we could try working out what they aren't. Have a look through the rest of the list. Are all the other programs that you use on a regular basis mentioned somewhere else in the list?
(Thinking that if we can account for all the other programs you use, we could go after those those two blanks acting on the assumption that they are actually the iTunes or QuickTime entries. The classic version of what i'm thinking of is extremely rare ... it usually involved old QuickTime versions and you're having an issue with iTunes, which is why I'm guessing that there are no version numbers in your case.)

  • Can't setup express due to "later version of itunes"

I can't get through the express setup, continually get the message to the effect of "later version of itunes detected, cannot continue" or something close to that.
    I am running I tunes 7.0.1.8.
I plugged the expess into my Linksys SRX router via cat6 cable and upgraded the firmware of the express using the program:
    airportexpressfirmwareupdate63forwindows
It said download was successful, but when I rerun the setup program, I get the same message. The setup is version 4.2. Should I not be re running the setup program after downloading the update program into th eexpress?
    No clue what's going on.

I am hoping that by posting here this topic will become current again. • The previous version of Itunes had a function where I could identify duplicate songs in my iTUNES library.  I cannot find this function in the new version of iTUNES.

The previous version of Itunes had a function where I could identify duplicate songs in my iTUNES library.  I cannot find this function in the new version of iTUNES.
Please advise where this is in the new version?

The show duplicates/show exact duplicates features have been left out of iTunes 11. Rumor suggests they will be restored in the next build. In the meantime I have written two Windows scripts to make playlists of Duplicates and Exact Duplicates, either from a selection of tracks or the entire library.
If you want to manually remove duplicate tracks use shift-delete to remove selected tracks from the library as well as the playlist. Keep one of each repeated group of files and don't send to the recycle bin unless you are sure that there are multiple files on the disc as opposed to multiple entries to the same file.
There is also my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. This can preserve ratings, play counts, playlist membership, etc. which are lost in a manual clean up. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background on deduping and the script.
