This may seem pointless...

I have an iBook G3 which will not start up properly. That is, until today. I gave up on it almost two years ago. I'm doing some house-cleaning so I was going to try it again today and post here with a description of the problem in a final effort to fix it before just getting rid of it. It used to repeatedly get stuck on the opening screen (with an apple and a progress bar) and absolutely not go any further. I haven't touched it in well over a year, but today, when I started it up again, it seems to work just fine! I'm afraid to turn it off, though, in case it won't start up again. I'd like to have a laptop, especially one with a DVD player, so it'd be nice if it would keep working...
I still have my 10.2 discs. Does anybody have any idea what the problem could have been in the first place, and why it would seem okay now? Should I reinstall 10.2? What is going on here???
I usually use Windows now, since the iBook stopped working, so I don't currently have whatever it is that I need to get my macs online (I also have a G4 Power Mac that's just sitting here, cable internet and no phone line whatsoever in this cell phone age).
Let me know if you need any other info.
Thanks for reading!
Thanks a lot!

I responded to your post in another forum, and although there is a bit more in this question they are essentially the same. It is usually best to post in only one forum at a time.
Good luck.

  • This may seem basic, but I just discovered that I do not have a share button (the thing with the little arrow popping out) to the left of my address bar on my Mac.  I do have one on my IPad and really like it.  Why don't I have this on my Mac?

    Going from Lion to Mountain Lion is considered an upgrade (because it is not free), not an update.
    So yes, given that you have Lion, you are up to date.  But if you can, you might consider going to Mountain Lion for a fee.
    Here's what you need to do the upgrade:

    This may seem a silly question, but how can I create a new mailbox on my iPad?

    A new mailbox/folder - you can't, not yet. If you're using an IMAP mail account, you can create a mailbox on the server (either through webmail or desktop mail) and it'll appear on the iPad.
    We've been told the upcoming iOS5 will allow you to do so (I assume, provided you have IMAP).

  • HT4437 this may seem like a dumb question, but do you always have to have wifi on to play music using airplay through the tv

    This may seem like a dumb question, but once you have set up airplay from the ipad through the tv do you always need to have the internet on.

    It's not necessary to have an internet connection in order to AirPlay content to the Apple TV unless the content is protected. You will however need to keep your wifi network turned on.

  • This may seem obvious, but how can you add, subtract multiply divide in forms central.

    I do not see any way of performing basic math in Adobe Forms Central.
    Even i Adobe Acrobat form designer there seems to be a way, but you cannot select the fields needed in the calculation?

  • Hi.  This may seem like a stupid question.  It's about email on the ipad2

    The ipad was set up before I left the apple store, and since this is the first apple device I own, (okay, many years ago I had an applie IIe), I don't know how to move emails from my trash folder back to the inbox.  I know to click edit, select the email, and then select move, but I can't seem to bring up the trash folder.  When I tap on an icon, and tap trash, it's just moving more emails to trash.  What am I doing wrong?

    When you are using the mail app, tap on the name of your mail account on the left side. The heading at the top should say Mailboxes with two sub headings - InBoxes and Accounts. Tap on the name of the account under the Accounts sub heading. Then tap the trash folder to get to the emails that you have deleted.
    I think - from what you are saying - you see the two email messages on the left side - not the email addresses. If that is what you are seeing - tap on the name of the mail account in the top left corner (an icon the that looks like an arrow pointing to the left with your mail account name in it) to take you back to where your mailbox folders are listed. If you keep tapping the icons in the upper left corner, eventually you will be back to the main mail window that I described above.

  • This may seem silly, but what font is this?

    I am having to recreate a logo for someone using this font. They said it was made 10-20 years ago but that could be exaggerated. I know I have seen this font before and feel like it should not be that hard, but I have been stuck so bad! I know when I find out that I will feel really dumb.
    Does anyone know what font this is?

    FaceTime is NEVER charged. It is basically going through the internet, as if you were watching a YouTube video, it just takes data. You probably have a data limit through your wireless provider, for example, I can only use 3Gb of data per month on my iPhone 5 through AT&T.
    If you use Wi-Fi, you will NOT be charged for data (unless your internet provider has a cap on the amount of data you can use).
    If you do facetime over cellular data, you just have to watch your data usage. You can watch your data usage in Settings > General > Usage. AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint all offer free apps you can use to monitor your data usage (among many other things, like pay your wireless bill, etc.).

  • This may seem simple, but what is the easiest, most painless way to take an LrPhoto and save it as a jpg of a specific size somewhere in the file system?

    It's not really an export, but if I have to use LrExport to do it, that's fine.

    local settings = {
       -- jpeg settings..
       -- location settings.
    local photos = { catalog:getTargetPhoto() } -- for example
    local session = LrExportSession {
        photosToExport = photos,
        exportSettings = settings,
    session:doExportOnCurrent/NewTask()

  • I know this may seem dumb but like so many others before me I can't find the photos tab in itunes

    Need help finding the photos tab to sync up my iPad and PC

    If you are using a mac, you use iphoto.
    If you are on windows, you use whatever camera software windows uses.
    Itunes does not import photos.

  • This may seem like a dumb question, but

    How do I keep my hard drive from filling up with junk? I just purchased a new 13" MBA with 256 GB. My old MBP eventually got bogged down with so many duplicate files and applications and just plain junk. I was never sure what could be safely deleted.
    I guess my real question is how do I know what is safe to delete, which things are duplicates and can I delete a disk image after I install something? Also, how do I know if I've completely deleted an application that I no longer want (i.e. any hidden files or whatever). I want to keep my new MBA as clean as I can and not load up my hard drive space with anything unneccessary.
    Thanks!

    not a dumb question
    just be proactive about where everything is saved to and backup important things via external USB HD
    Clear out itunes often of duplicate unwanted things, keep a folder or two on your desktop or otherwise to keep most of your working files.
    If you drop an unwanted APP to the trash and delete same, its gone unless is a sys. modification application.
    Keep your pictures in a known file or two. Same goes for documents, music, and videos.
    frequently clear out your browswer of cookies, cache.
    Buy a APP on the APP STORE that locates all duplicate files.  It lets you choose to delete them or not.
    such as:
    http://macpaw.com/gemini
    there are many such apps.

  • This may sound dumb, but is there an app or a monthly subscription to carry wi-fi or internet connection. so i dont lose connection when i leave my house. want internet connection at all time

    I have an ipod touch 5th gen.  storage capacity is 27.9 / 23.3 available.  IOS 7.1.2    model # ME978LL/A.   My question is, now this may sound dumb. But i was wanting to know if there is a app or a monthly subscription to have internet connection or wi-fi at all times instead of just shutting my ipod off very few apps work without internet connection almost dosen't seem worth 300 dollars.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR INFO.

    Your internet connection depends on access to a wifi network. When you leave your house you go out of range of your own network, so the only way to connect is to find a free or paid public wi-fi service in the location you are in at the time; the alternative is to use your iPhone for what is called 'tethering' (providing a wifi signal you iPod can connect to) but it you have an iPhone you would want to use that anyway (and many service providers don't allow it - in any case it comes expensive as you are using a mobile data connection).

  • An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database. mail will not be sent.

    Hii all,
    I have a subscription which used to send report email daily 10 am morning
    now today it does not sent an email the status i s showing above error message ..
    why this occurs ?? at the time of subscription running time ??
    i have checked there is not error of subscription it runs fine ..
    only today errored ..
    Kindly , help me
    Dilip Patil..

    Hi Dilip,
    Based on the error message "An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database." it seems the issue is caused by the Report Server catalog databases are
    corrupted.
    To fix this issue, I suggest that you use the Reporting Services Configuration Manager to recreate the Report Server catalog databases. In addition, please make sure report server instance can connect to the report server database. For more details about Configure
    a Report Server Database Connection (SSRS Configuration Manager), please see the following document:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-IN/library/ms159133.aspx
    Besides, if the issue is caused by the connection to the SQL Server Reporting Services Report Server catalog database is timeout. Please refer to the following thread:

    If the problem is still existed, I would appreciate it if you could give us detailed error log, it will help us move more quickly toward a solution.

    I have the same issue.  This is a single-purpose physical mailbox server with 320 users and 72GB of RAM.  That should be plenty.  I've checked and there are no manual settings for the database cache.  There are no other problems with
    the server, nothing reported in the logs, except for the aforementioned error (see below).
    The server is sluggish.  A reboot will clear up the problem temporarily.  The only processes using any significant amount of memory are store.exe (using 53GB), regsvc (using 5) and W3 and Monitoringhost.exe using 1 GB each.  Does anyone have
    any ideas on this?

    Brian,
    We had this event log entry as well which SCOM picked up on, and 10 seconds before it the Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange updated all of its engines.
    We are running Exchange 2010 SP2 RU3 with no file system antivirus (the boxes are restricted and have UAC turned on as mitigations). We are running the servers primarily as Hub Transport servers with 16GB of RAM, but they do have the mailbox role installed
    for the sole purpose of serving as our public folder servers.
    So we theroized the STORE process was just grabbing a ton of RAM, and occasionally it was told to dump the memory so the other processes could grab some - thus generating the alert. Up until last night we thought nothing of it, but ~25 seconds after the
    cache flush to paging file, we got the following alert:

    So it seems as if the Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange inadvertently trigger the cache flush which didn't appear to happen quick or thuroughly enough for the transport service to do what it needed to do, so it freaked out and performed the subsequent
