This may sound stupid...

This may sound extremely stupid and I completely understand how many of you are frustrated about the whole Aluminum iMac freezing issue but today as I was using iChat and Safari everything on the computer seemed to freeze, I couldn't click on anything or scroll but my mouse curser still worked - I use a wireless might mouse. So I reset the mouse by turning it off and then let it synch back up with the computer again. Then everything was fine - I don't want to sound arrogant and naive but if you use a mighty mouse (wired/wireless) unplug or turn it off and see if thats the problem.

You can return it at the place you got it. If you bought it at an Apple Store, their return policy is 14 days.

  • This may sound stupid but for some reason I can no longer use the return button after typing in a url to go to that site. Does anyone know how to fix this?

For some reason this stopped working on firefox a week or so ago. I have tried to uninstall and install firefox again but the problem still persists. I've tried both chrome and explorer and they don't seem to have this problem.
I'd hate to stop using firefox but this so annoying that in less i can fix it, i'll have to change my browser!

    Hi larryhall,
I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • This may sound stupid! but is the iCal a different calendar to the iCloud Calendar?

My iphone and Mac do not seem to sync properly - although some diary entries do sync, the actual number and names of calendars do not match on each device. Im really confused by it all! Also is Contacts different to Address Book?????? Same problem.

    Hi jojoscorpio,
I have had the same problem when I recently bought a new iPhone. With me it helped to completely turning off and on iCloud on both my iPhone and Mac.
You can do this on your Mac by going to settings - internet and wireless - iCloud and then turning off everything you see.
You can do this on your iPhone by going to settings - iCloud and then turning off everything you see.
Afterwards you close both applications and put them back on.
    Good luck!

  • This may sound like a stupid question,,,but can i downlaod other programmes to my ipad, and use them like i would on a pc/net book ?

this may sound like a stupid question,,,but can i downlaod other programmes to my ipad, and use them like i would on a pc/net book ?

    No.
It is not a replacement for a computer.
It mirrors the selected content of your computer.
The only programs that can be loaded on an ipad are those found in the app store.

  • HT4864 Thank you! This may sound lame but are these instructions for the blackberry? I'm receiving iCloud emails without problems on my MacBook Pro and I'd rather not mess w/ settings there.

Thank you! This may sound lame but are these instructions for my blackberry? I'm receiving iCloud emails without problems on my MacBook Pro and I'd rather not mess w/ settings there. Thanks again!

You don't need to start a new thread to continue a conversation, you can just tack onto the original one. The settings I referred you to are for the Blackberry, since that's the device which is not receiving mail: anything which is working can be left alone.

  • This may sound dumb, but is there an app or a monthly subscription to carry wi-fi or internet connection. so i dont lose connection when i leave my house. want internet connection at all time

I have an ipod touch 5th gen.  storage capacity is 27.9 / 23.3 available.  IOS 7.1.2    model # ME978LL/A.   My question is, now this may sound dumb. But i was wanting to know if there is a app or a monthly subscription to have internet connection or wi-fi at all times instead of just shutting my ipod off very few apps work without internet connection almost dosen't seem worth 300 dollars.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR INFO.

Your internet connection depends on access to a wifi network. When you leave your house you go out of range of your own network, so the only way to connect is to find a free or paid public wi-fi service in the location you are in at the time; the alternative is to use your iPhone for what is called 'tethering' (providing a wifi signal you iPod can connect to) but it you have an iPhone you would want to use that anyway (and many service providers don't allow it - in any case it comes expensive as you are using a mobile data connection).

  • This may sound lame!!

This may sound lame, Ive been here a hundred times before but i cant find the plugin folder for imovie HD on my new Imac, i reinstalled Imove and the installed slick 1-10, when i start imovie it says it cant find 12 different plugins but I cant find the folder to see whats up. Ive looked almost everywhere obviously, for if i looked everywhere i probably wouldnt need to be doing this, thx in advance.

    Hello again Beverly.
As long as we're on the subject. I contacted SLICK and the instructions say I have to have the old SLICK volumes already mounted before they can be upgraded. I already have vol. 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, & 9 installed on my MacBook pro. Can I install these volumes using the hard disks and then have SLICK upgrade them? Or, Am I going to have to buy them all over again? iMovie will be inoperable temporarily but will the new upgrades free it up?
As usual your help is much appreciated.

  • This may sound silly but can anyone tell me if facetime is done through wifii or is it charged as a long distance from canada to us

this may sound silly but can anywone tell be if facetime is wifi or a long distance charge?

FaceTime is NEVER charged. It is basically going through the internet, as if you were watching a YouTube video, it just takes data. You probably have a data limit through your wireless provider, for example, I can only use 3Gb of data per month on my iPhone 5 through AT&T.
If you use Wi-Fi, you will NOT be charged for data (unless your internet provider has a cap on the amount of data you can use).
If you do facetime over cellular data, you just have to watch your data usage. You can watch your data usage in Settings > General > Usage. AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint all offer free apps you can use to monitor your data usage (among many other things, like pay your wireless bill, etc.).

  • This may be stupid..

This may be a stupid question but how do you get points?? My profile says level 1 0 points.. New here. Just joined today

You get points if you answer someone's question and the person who posted the topic is generous enough to click on either the Helpful Answer or Correct Answer button.
The reward system helps to increase community participation. When a community member gives you (or another member) a reward for providing helpful advice or a solution to their question, your accumulated points will increase your status level within the community.
Members may reward you with 5 points if they deem that your reply is helpful; and 10 points if you post a solution to their issue. Likewise, when you mark a reply as Helpful or Correct in your own created topic, you will be awarding the respondent with the same point values.

  • This may sound silly but where do i find my attachments after i download them

may sound silly but where do i find my attachments after i download them

What attachments are you talking about? Do you mean the files and or photos you receive in emails?
Mail loads the attachments and they should appear in the body of the email. Some can be viewed by tapping on them. If you have a compatible app you can save them to the appropriate app. An example might be a Word document. If you have an app that edits Word docs like Pages or some other app, tapping on the attachment will bring up a choice to open in Pages.

  • This question may sound stupid, but...

I downloaded jbuilder x enterprise edition, however, it does not recognize classes such as
    javax.ejb.MessageDrivenBean
    javax.ejb.MessageDrivenContext
    javax.jms.Message
    javax.jms.MessageListener
    javax.jms.ObjectMessage
do I need to include something else apart from the standard library? where to get it ?
    Thanks a lot~~

Check the manual or the program's settings to make sure that it will import the extended java classes - javax libraries.
Your project settings might also fall under this pit as well, make sure that the javax libraries are in the complier/library path.

  • Sorry this may sound a bit stupid but do you get any discs at all with a new iMac, such as restore discs if anything goes wrong?

I just purchased a new Imac yesterday, this is the first time with an Imac so please be gentle with me. I noticed that there was no software discs at all with this Imac and I am wondering what would happen if I need to re-install at a later date especially the OS. Do you get any discs with a new Imac?

    No.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

  • I know this may sound silly but i'm scared

ok my parents got me my macbook about 2 months ago and everything's ok until about now. mac's are suppose to be silent computers right? (i've used macs for years but never go into the technical aspect) now my laptop has been whirring a lot.
i know it may not sound like much but it's the same whirring noise my dad's old mac used to make before it froze. and i'm scared of my laptop freezing on me unexpectedly. it tends to make this noise while i'm playing the sims 2 (btw while i was installing the sims 2, it warned me that my processor was under the required 500 whatever-the-units-are ,i forgot, but i clicked ok and play the sims 2 fine) but would stop after some time. now it makes it while i'm doing something simple like using safari or yahoo messenger.
i think it should help to mention that i do quite a bit of downloading. i downloaded a ton of widgets the other day and sometimes get music and some tv shows (and on the itunes store too) and i use limewire sometimes but my laptop whirrs when i do.
so any diagnosis? should i uninstall the sims 2? stop downloading? or use my laptop like normal and hope the whirring wont lead to things to come?
    i'm really worried...

That widget I posted will tell you the fan speed, and internal temperatures, and what is chewing up the machine, and . . .
But not as much detail about running apps as Activity Monitor. Good to use both.

  • This may sound like a dumb question, but...

I am posting this as I've posted another question that is related to this particular question...
Is a 10.3 MB file a super-huge file in Illustrator CS6?  I'm just trying to figure out why my machine is running so slowly; was working well a few days ago when I worked on this particular piece of artwork.  I have around seven layers.
    Nancy in Tucson

    Nancy,
The filesize 10.3 MB is far from unusual (if anything, some here might ask: when do you really start working on it? You may also create a new document of the same size, and then save it without any artwork too see what you actually start with).
There may be many reasons for slowdowns, including other things running. You may (also) have a look at the speed with only Illy working.

  • This may sound goofy but how can i delete ALL the items in my shopping cart

i would really like to know how to do this so i can start from scratch i printed off all that was in it so i can refer back to it but i want it all gone at once just all of it clicking the x is just too much for me to sit for minutes on end / hours to do just too much in there.

    Try this instead:
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. Select the backup volume from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
    4. Click on the Erase button.
You will need to reconfigure Time Machine preferences for the backup.
FYI: Never remove Time Machine backup data except through the Time Machine application. If you aren't sure about using Time Machine then visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things related to Time Machine.
