The following message appeared on my iPAD:
"This iPad hasn't been backed up in 6 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wi-Fi". This is strange because the iPad is plugged in each night and automatically connects to Wi-Fi.
Now even though I press OK nothing is happening. It seems to have gone into a freeze mode. I tried to switch off the iPad but it would not allow the red arrow to "slide to power off". What can be done to rectify the problem?

You be sure the iphone is plugged in, locked and connected to wifi. Then a backup will be attempted. Or, you can manually do a backup inside...
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, turn on iCloud backup and tap the Manual button.

Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears
To stop the message:
Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Backup Now
iCloud Backup will run automatically on a daily basis if:
- it is plugged into a power source
- it is connected to Wi-Fi
- the screen is locked

Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds or so and see if it reboots.

press and hold top power button and home button in front for 6-8 seconds until you see an apple, for it to reset.
and make sure your initiating an icloud backup or it will come up again.
1. be connected to wi fi
2. be plugged in to power source
3. turn screen off
go to settings>icloud>storage and backup>backup now.

Not backing up should not restrict you from using the iPad (if it did, there would be a lot of people in trouble)
Try restarting the iPad, holding both the home and power button down until you see the Apple Logo and then try to log in.

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

That means that your backups are done to iCloud overnight. The phone must be left plugged in and wifi turned on.
If you are shutting your phone off at night - this is the reason for backups not being done.

When it's rebooted you can force a backup via Settings > iCloud
