This one's a doozy. Website display problem iMac specific.

Alright, so I've been having this problem since day one and I've sucked it up for the past 2.5 years and I've been throroughly annoyed by now. So here's the problem.
Certain websites do not display properly. I do not believe that it is a browser problem because I've tried 3 different browsers (firefox, chrome, and safari) and the problem still persists. So let me post pictures first before I get in to the details:
Comparing the 3 different browsers.
(my concern is that the thumbnails do not display properly). The tabs are also not clickable (ie. I can't click "New Costco Coupons" from "Featured Deals").
So I have Parallels running, and opened up firefox to display the same websites that are giving me problems...
aeroplan thumbnails don't display. (left: windows; right: mac)
kickstarter website "Thanks a billion" doesn't display (left: windows; right: mac)
Kickstarter login page. (left: windows; right: mac): When I click login in windows, pop up opens for me to login. In mac, when I click login, nothing happens.
(the biggest issue that is getting under my skin)
And once again, redflags thumnails. (left: windows; right: mac)
I also believe this is an issue with this particular mac model. I have 2007 macbook pro with the same firefox plugins (they sync) and the same OS 10.9.2 (recently fresh installed on both machines, though the problem persisted before the OS install), and all these sites display fine.
This iMac model:
27-inch, Mid 2011
iMac 12,2
Model: A1312
2.7 GHz Intel i5
I've tried restarting in safe mode with plugins disabled and have ruled out a plugin problem. I've also checked and made sure that flash and java are all updated. Any help at all would be great =)

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I am facing a basic problem in a website display. We are using a web-based tool . A particular webpage displays properly at first, but when you scroll up and down for a while, the webpage splits up into two and shows in a strange manner. Any clues how to debug on the same.

My guess is its a Direct2D Rendering Error
I have seen flash videos render improperly due to Direct2D
Try going into about:config and change "mozilla.widget.render-mode" to zero.
You will probably need to restart firefox and if it still occurs perhaps you could post a snapshot so I can have a better look.

  • Website display problems in IE and FF

    hi all,
Really need some help with this website. Orginally it were
created using tables (not by me), and I have been asked to make
changes. I didnt want to redo the thing in CSS so I just added to
the tables. So far so good, I have an issue effecting the layout in
Firefox and Internet Explorer. If you check the link
    http://www.acengineering.no/new_site/acc_employer.html
in both IE and FF, FF displays the layout exactly as I want it to
however IE displays the text and image blocks inwards eg, not
    measuring correctly to the menu.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get IE to display the
website correctly like FF? Really really need some help here...
If this is not possible, would placing a div instead of the
main table menu suffice, and if so how would it be best to go about
    this?
NB. Please excuse the inline CSS as I havent sorted this into
an external file yet. Also casually look away from the asortment
.styles; again havent got round to changing and correcting these.
    1000 thx

The problem you have is whoever set up the tables should be
    shot.
It's a very bad construction. The tables inside of the main
    table
obviously add up to more than the 784px that they are
    supposed to and so
IE has issue knowing what it is you want.
The easiest solution is to remove the middle nested table
    (the one which
contains the iframe and image) and insert a new 1 row x 2
    cols table at
840px wide in its place. Set the right cell to align right
    via the
properties inspector if you're not good with code.
Then put back in the ifarme in the left cell and the image in
    the right
    cell.
That way it will work ok in IE.
It's a 'sticking plaster' solution. The table construction is
horrendously hideous for such a simple project.
Personally I would re-work the structure for peace of mind.

  • A page on a website will not open. Most everything else will excpet this one page on the website.

The page sits and tells me it is loading and never does. The webpage has other places that work fine.

    HAVE had similar experiences:
    1. doubt it is a firefox issue. 2. The server could be having problems finding the page (whose name is valid, thus no 404), but un-retrievable due to OS or hardware problems (infinite search loop). 3. Waiting for a display tool like Adobe Acrobat Reader to be loaded for PDF files; start Acrobat and check your downloads and click on the list item wanted; usually it is automatic unless you turned off the linkage relationship. 4. Same applies to DOC/docx, png/jpg and mp3/mp4 files. WAYS to figure out the problem: 1. drop the last section from the URL, go there and look for a newer link to the file you want. 2. check whois.net to make sure the website is a safe place to visit (some mal-sites fake a stalling search in order to download malware in the backgound). 3. google the same information you want and seek it at another URL. good luck.

  • Please help website display problems

Hi, Just purchased my mrs a curve 8520 with/thro Virgin.
Email, facebook/wifi all working but when browsing certain sites I have issues with display.
For instance I use the browser and select sites from bookmarks (sites I have added) and these load fine, when I click link on sites it works but  the display will sometimes go black or displays incorrectly (can only see left side and unable to scroll to right etc). I refresh and it will get onto page but again it will go black and not display (sometimes I get security message to say not trusted certificate and I click on continue). To me (not too experienced with blackberry's though) it seems like a display issue with the blackberry.
Is the display issue due to the sites?
Can the blackberry only display certain sites due to site resolution?
Is the black screen due to a memory issue (i.e.. Need more memory to display correctly)?
Should I not use the blackberry browser and use the firefox or IE browser (have tried these too though and not worked but maybe I need to alter settings)?
Or do I need to do something to the blackberry settings?
I have tried a number of approaches to ensure ALL sites work correctly (mrs needs to use for work and needs to be able to access certain sites which Is why I got this phone). I would really appreciate some advice from an experienced Blackberry user,
If you need additional info pls let me know, thanking you in advance for any help :-)

how many people have problems with imac 2011 display?

What kind of problem are you referring to? Is it with a 21.5" or 27" or external display? Is it with a specific Application or at all times? Are you doing a survey?

  • On my third BB 8220 Pearl flip and this one has problems

I've had the 8220 for about 6 months now and I'm on my third replacement.  I actually bought two of them originally one for me and one for the wife.  Both of the original phones had calling out problems.  If you started entering a phone number the phone would convert the numbers to letters and say it could not find a contact.  It was very frustrating to say the least.  Sometimes you could call out after four or five trys and other times you had to enter the contact info and call from that.  T-Mobile replaced both phones.
The phone I received as a replacement started turning itself off for no apparent reason and would only come back on after the battery was removed and re-inserted.  T-Mobile had me update the software and fiddle around with other settings, but that did not cure the problem and they replaced that phone.
The new replacement which I've had for three days also has problems.  In bedside mode it will lock up sometime during the night.  The outside screen will be locked on say 10:45 PM and the inside screen will be black.  Again the only way to get it to re-boot is to pull the battery.  If that is not bad enough this one also has intermittent calling out problems.  It's doing just like the first one - start dialing a number and the phone converts the numbers to letters and says it can't find a contact. GRRR.  It does not do it every time, but often enough that I'm about ready to flush the thing down the drain.

Here's a little update.  In addition to the problems I mentioned above now this phone will receive and make calls only intermitently.  My wife tried to call several times while she was out and got a little upset with me because she thought I had turned off my phone. I showed her I had received any calls or voice mails and she tried to call me again and the phone never rang.  I tried to call her and her phone never rang.  So I pulled the battery and the sim card waited a few seconds put them back in and the phone worked again.
So T-Mobile is sending out phone number four.  I'm beginning to think RIM should re-call all the 8220s.  They are not dependable.

  • How should I fix this one Flash mp3 player problem?

First of all, I'm just learning Flash, so bear with me. To deliver music content on a little website, I'm using the original Fabricio Zuard XSPF_player from Sourceforge.net. The version of the player that plays more than one song is supposed to also display the relevant album cover on the left. This works fine with FireFox 3.6, IE 8, and Opera 11 (all on Windows XP Pro sp3).
But on Google Chrome, the song links go all the way to the left including the space where the cover image should be. Can someone more experienced help me diagnose this? One person has suggested a Javascript problem, but the only Javascript I'm using is SWFObject, which appears to have a good reputation, and doesn't have anything to do with the player's internal appearance.

As you suggested, I used Flash (CS5) to publish an html. Tested in Firefox the cover is shown, but tested in Google I still get only the links to the songs. Can you suggest my next step?

  • My original post, locked by this forum. Display problem related

    Hi G5 Gurus,
The display problem first, we all know when screen savers display, a click on the mouse will bring you back to the active desktop, this was how it worked., but now, sometimes a click cause the G5 to sleep!
As for the sleep, I dare not to put it to sleep these days, because I am afriad it may cause a fire by over heating. Sometmes, actually four times in the past few months, my G5 could wake up by itself, followed by a extrem high speed running of the cooling fan, it sounded like a hair dryer running in the same room. Sometimes the sreen could light up, just like real wake up, sometimes, it was black. No clicks the mouse or keyboeard could bring it back to normal, I had to press and hold the power button to turn it off.
This crazy problem happened for the first time last summer, a dead hard disk was the cost. Apple replaced it, but failed to detect the cooling or power or display problem. I was given one month extended free service, but right after its end, the problem was back and happened even more often.
Please let me know if any of you had the same problem and please advise what to do.
    100s Gs of thanks.

I have the EXACT same problem. In fact, I could not have described it better myself. What gives? I brought it in to the "genius" bar and they repolaced the power supply free of charge but the problem is still there. I noticed they ordered a new logic board but did not end up replacing it after all. Did you have yours replaced and did it work? Is this a known issue?

    Hi La teller,
Thank you for your reply. The 'genius' here in London only replace the dead hard disk, which I belive was a victim of this problem. I was told they couldn't find anything wrong with the power supply or the cooling system.
Now at lest I know I am not the only bad luck guy. Let's wait and see if others are having the same problem. I am not sure if this is a known issue to Apple, even if it is, it may take years before they can offer a recall or free repaire. I noticed that some G5s have already been suffering from power problems and a free repaire was offered.
Thank you again and hope Apple can take our concerns into their consideration soon.

    Hello,
I'm also having this problem (fan running, won't come out of sleep), just spoke with an apple care rep. He confirmed my suspition that it was software, not hardware as I have just had the logic board and power supply replaced.
    His suggestions were to:
    1. Run disk repair from the startup CD
try running OS X from a firewire drive and see if the same behavior happens or
    perform and archive and install.
When the fan starts to run like that it means the OS is not communicating with the hardware properly. The OS could be somewhat corrupt if you were having hardware issues beforehand, hence the need for a reinstall. I will be performing an archive and install after the disk repair, I'll let you know if it fixes the problem!

    Hi Stopha6,
Thank you for your message. I never imagined it could be a software issue, cos it looked so hardware.
Please keep me updated with your progress.
By the way, as I said in my old posts, a hard disk went dead when this happened for the very first time, how do you read this?

    Hi Stopha6,
After reading your reply again, I realized that the system had already been reinstalled. As I said when it happened for the first time, the hard disk died with it, which was replaced, of course with a new OS X, but the same problem is still happening. May this suggest that it is not just a software problem? Thank you. Songyan

The Fans going at full is only because you have an application that is using a lot of cpu power and therefore causing the imac to heat up so it turns the fans on. The screen-saver and sleep problem you describe sounds like something that may just happen on accident. But this sounds mostly like a software problem. Try making sure to always quit all non-apple products and see if anything changes.

Thank you, Ag-Nate. I will try as you adivised but I con't think the fans were activeted my intensive CPU using. In most of the cases, the problems happened when the Mac was sleeping, when the minimum CPU were being used.

"The Fans going at full is only because you have an application that is using a lot of cpu power and therefore causing the imac to heat up so it turns the fans on."
That's only partly right. A hard-working process will make the fans run at high speed, of course.
But, the OS is in touch with the firmware of the iMac, telling it how to run the fans, based upon information the OS X kernel is getting about the state of the hardware.
If the firmware loses touch with the OS for some reason, and is not getting instructions on how to run the fan, it will default to running them at full blast, to be on the safe side (and this "full blast" fan mode is way louder than anything you'll generally experience during normal usage, I know from experience).
So it may not be so simple as a hard-working cpu process kicking the fans on.

Hi I have a 20" G5 imac it's about 18 months old and I am having the same problem, It freezes and the fan runs really loud. It's nothing to do with software as my I.T. guy has done a complete re-install. All of our admin people have imacs of differring ages and the flat panels are all OK but every one of the G5s has had a booting problem. Some fell into the recall for replacement logic boards but the one I have at home is the newest and doesn't. I'm waiting for my apple reseller to get back to me, but it looks like it's the logic board and as none of the serial numbers fall into the recall, I'm expecting a big bill. I'm really disappointed as I've been a professional apple user for over 15 years and have grown to expect a certain amount of honesty and integrity from them. Looking at all of the discussion boards and the amount of people complaining of the same problem the logic boards are defective and apple should be replacing these free of charge.

    Kensall,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
As in the other thread I wrote:
Being from England, you may find the repair program under these pages:

Check both of them as they refer to different models.
If neither of yours is under the program, please start a new topic thread so someone can help you.

First off, you'll get a wider audience who may be able to solve your problem. Secondly, responses to you won't confuse the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them. And thirdly, you'll know for certain whether or not a response applies to you.

I am having a very similar problem. My G5 imac has already had the logic board replaced from the leaking capacitor problem. 8 mos. later the power supply was replaced under the second recall program when it failed to start up.
It had been working now for almost a year, when about 3 mos. ago I started to experience the sudden dimming effect - if the display was untouched the screen would dim about 30% similar to a laptop in energy save mode. I checked and none of these types of options were set in the pref panes. At the same time I would have the iMac go to sleep after a while from non-use, and then when I tried to wake it it would stir for a few seconds and then go right back to sleep. It took 2-3 attempts to wake it up.
Then last week, as I tried to wake it, it just shut down instead completely. I had to hold the power button down to recycle it to get it to come back to life (3 times).
Today was it - I found what I thought was a sleeping iMac, but it will not power up at all. I opened the back cover and the power supply is working, but I cannot get the board to energize, I reset the PMU, but the #2 LED won't even blink. It is completely dead.
Basically every time I used this computer I held my breath that it would not work. After 2 recalls I still only get 9 mos. out of it? Apple is really starting to show it is like the "big" computer makers, the quality is going right down the tubes.

  • Ever seen this display problem? (pictures inside)

After playing Team Fortress 2 in Windows XP off Boot Camp for an hour or two, I restart my computer back into OSX to find my screen looking like this:
    http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/6320/0830091006.jpg
When it should look like this:
    http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/5779/0830091007.jpg
It is fixed by resetting the PRAM on restart (holding, alt + apple key + P + R before apple icon appears on start up.) It goes away every time... but I'd like for it to never happen because I feel like resetting my PRAM once every few days is not good for my Macbook Pro.
I looked through the display anomalies thread, but could not find any pictures of people's display problems looking like mine. Although, I think it may have to do with what was plaguing other people... which is overheating?

I think I found something similar:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7210908#7210908
The anomaly there looks very similar, and the cure seems to be to reset the PRAM. Something you have already figured out to do.
If you had the later graphics chip, you would be covered by this program:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
However, there is no such program for your graphics chip as far as I know.
There were some speculations that the problem was worse in some versions of Leopard than in others, but I think nothing was ever definitive. Heat could be a factor if you had just finished a processor intensive activity like a game. Have you tried letting the Mac cool down before restarting in Mac OS X?
A true graphics chip problem should affect both Windows and Mac OS X, and this one seems to just affect Mac OS X for some reason. So my guess is that the chip itself is OK.
Don't know if this is much help, but you're not alone.
    Good luck!

  • Problem with an HTML snippit and PayPal button - cant figure this one out?

Hello Mac people. We are really good with these things but this one has got us completely foxed.
We've done a tribute website in iWeb 08 for a friend and his family that were tragically murdered in November 2006 - the address is www.yemi.co.uk
We are trying to add a PayPal Donate button to the Charity Page.
Simple right? We went to our PayPal account, set up the button, previewed it (perfect), copied the code, pasted it into an iWeb HTML snippet window, clicked Apply and the PayPal button appeared on the page... Great, thats sorted right? Nope.
What happens after we publish to our .MAC account is that the PayPal button, when clicked, tries to load the entire PayPal page into the frame / area within the actual PayPal button, which is a tiny, on the iWeb page.
What we want it to do is just link to PayPal in a new window.
Tried everything we can think of to solve it including PayPal technical service, .MAC assistance etc... 3 days later we admit defeat!
Anyone have a clue what we've done wrong? Much appreciated.
    Regards from the UK

Hi, just a quick update. We managed to solve this one by adding this to the first line of code that PayPal generates after it has been pasted into the Snippit window: target="newFormWindow" - it forces the page to open in a new window and gets round the problem we were having.
Hope this helps somebody else out in the future. Thanks.

Java 6 you can't as Apple maintains it, and Java 7 you could if you uninstall it and Oracle provides the earlier version which they likely won't his last update fixed 37 remote exploits.
Java broken some software here and there, all you'll have to do is wait for a update from the other parties.
