This phone is bricked....

I know you are saying it cannot be done, but this seems to be just what I did.
iPhone 3g 8Gb - Model MB702LL - Win7 Newest iTunes.
I was running a 3.1.2 (7D11) firmware. (It was just much faster responding than the 4.0.1 firmware.)
So..I upgraded to iTunes 10, the very newest one. I plug my phone and find that my computer and iTunes does not recognize it at all. I attempt to get this working over the course of a couple of hours with no luck. I then attempt to put the iPhone into DFU, and it stops being functional at all.
It boots to the logo and then stays there until I physically shut it down. When I try to set it into recovery mode, it will go from the logo to a picture of the iPhone with a BSOD on it.
I have tried various software programs to try and kick into and out of recovery/DFU modes, but I still cannot get windows to recognize the device. I have also removed and re-installed iTunes many times. I have followed the advice to the letter from various resources around the net, to include the official one here on the Apple site... there has been zero progress.
I know the cables are good, because when I try the recovery method, the phone comes to life, but stops short of being recognized my Windows 7 or iTunes.
I have tried this on 3 different computers to no avail. My wife's iPhone is recognized by all three computers no problem.
So what can I do software wise to kick it out of this loop? Will an Apple Store take this back and give me a refurb or new phone?
Things were fine prior to this new iTunes upgrade and then everything started going south and I feel that if I can get windows to recognize the iPhone, I will have a chance at getting this fixed....
Does anyone have an idea?

The problem, as I can guess lies in windows not recognizing the iphone attached via usb and loading the proper drivers. I am sure there was a Windows update that killed this function somehow...But it has been about a month since I lost the ability to connect via computer usb, and I am no longer able to roll back my computer to that state.
It does not show up in the device manager at all, and all the proper services are running as they should. There are no errors and there are none when I observe it while attaching the phone. I have moved, and replaced various .dll files and reloaded drivers, as well as uninstalled/re-installed every Apple software on my machine many times to no avail.
When I try to put the phone in DFU mode, it will do the following: I turn the device off ensuring I have a blank screen. I press the off button for 3 seconds, and the Apple logo will come back on during that 3 seconds. I then press and hold the home button along with the off button for 10 seconds. At about the 6 second mark, the phone will power down, and at the conclusion of the 10 seconds, I release the off button. This causes the device to come back on to the Apple logo at about the 12 second mark.
From here is will stay on and about every 3 minutes or so, it will go blank for a second, and then come right back to the Apple logo.
When I try to put it into recovery mode, I press and hold the home button and connect my USB cable that is connected to my computer running iTunes. The apple logo will come on, and then after about 10 seconds into holding that home button a picture of an iPhone with the Blue Screen of Death comes on. After about 5 minutes the device shuts off.
I am going to let this loop like this all night to see if it will unglitch itself. I am going to see if any of my friends have a Mac to see if I can breach it somehow that way.
I see that several others are having similar problems....I like a mystery just like the next person, but this is proving to be a very hard one to figure out.

Try this - download a program called rec boot. follow the instructions to kick it out of recovery mode. and does itunes recognise
or hold the power and home button together until you see a "connect to itunes" pic on the screen

  • HATE This Phone - Constant 'Force Close' of Numerous Processes

Not a violent, nor temperamental person . . . But this HORRIBLE Droid Charge phone unit just makes me want throw it as hard as possible against a brick wall and then smash into small bits! I AM an electronics/broadcast professional who DOES expect electronic items to work as advertised (or at minimum, be repairable by qualified personnel.)
I remain convinced that the problems most are experiencing with the Droid Charge unit are software based. Why? I'm on my THIRD unit that have all exhibited the same operational failures. At this point, I am still under contract for a few more months and just trying to keep it 'alive' until the S4 hits the shelves.
    Problems you ask?
Constant force closing of most every feature on the phone (both factory apps/processes and the very few basic apps that I have loaded.)
Involuntary rebooting and involuntary 'Factory Resets'.
Unable to hook on to a WiFi signal (anywhere - with or without WiFi security.)
Failure to find GPS coordinates for more than thirty minute even outdoors in a clear sky (southern USA.)
I HATE this phone and all my local VZW store reps can do is offer a factory reset (like I haven't done THAT 100's of times) and offer to sell a new unit.
VZW you are quickly losing another corporate customer.
    ANY assistance is always appreciated.

    Jimbosays,
Because you are on your 3rd Charge Phone with the SAME problems I ask, have you used the SAME battery in all these phones???  It seems odd that three phones have the same problems so maybe it's something common among these three phones like a battery.  If the battery is swollen it's a sign that it's a goner!
Involuntary rebooting and force closing can/may be caused by a bad battery.  I mean a battery that does charge up to it's normal 3.7 volts and says it's fully charged BUT it cannot hold the amperage (power to run the phone).  In this case the battery is just "tuckered out."  The only true way to tell is to try the phone with a different good (probably new) battery.  The most cost effective way to do this may be to go a Verizon store and ask to try the battery that is in their demo Charge phone.

  • Nokia Belle update failure - phone now bricked

I happened to see my phone(N8) telling me that an update was available and I had to perform the operation through PC suite rather than previous FOTA methods. Strange, but I was very excited to try my hands on Belle. I setup the battleground for the update. Got the latest Suite(3.3.86), downloaded the firmware through it, and started the update.
The suite tookup the backup of the phone contents and then started to update. The update procedure asked to ignore any windows complaints of USB device being unplugged, and I just followed. After sometime, a pop-up comes saying that the communication with the device failed, and I need to press the power key for 10s. I performed and three vibrations came. Nothing happened. I kept waiting for much more time and later terminated the process to see my phone is bricked.
My attempts to search to reset the phone to some factory setting(I wonder why 16GN eMMC was required then) also failed. There is no way one can get his phone back if the update fails. Now its not strange for me why Nokia is a failure brand.
I purchased N8 believing the quality of Nokia phones. Initial updates like Anna and other minor updates to it went on well. I am now unhappy with Nokia. I think the whole process of update is pain. I am not sure why, but the method chosen to update was painsome. I hope someone responsible in Nokia would read this, and I want to tell them, N8 would be your brand's last phone to be owned by me, even if you sell moon through microsoft(another pain company) in future.

As of now, your only option is a three finger reset mentioned by Tim. Try it. You've nothing to lose. I hope you've a back up of all data. If that doesn't boot up your phone, then take it to a nearest Nokia care.

  • THE IPHONE CANNOT BE SYNCED BECAUSE THIS COMPUTER IS NO LONGER AUTHORIZED FOR PURCHASED ITEMS THAT ARE ON THIS PHONE

Hi I have a macbook pro (late 2011) running on Yosemite  and an iPhone 5s running iOS 8.1.2 and I have never had a problem until tonight. I wanted to sync my iPhone to add mew music but upon syncing I keep getting a pop up message saying "THE IPHONE "  " COULD NOT BE SYNCED BECAUSE THIS COMPUTER IS NO LONGER AUTHORIZED FOR PURCHASED ITEMS ON THIS PHONE" and tells me to go to the store tab on the top and to authorize this computer and every time I do it says computer is already authorized. I will also mention that my iTunes account is the only account that is used on my Mac and it is the only account I've used on my iPhone. Ive synced them plenty of time with no problems. I have never came across this message before and now my iPhone won't sync. I have been online for an hour now looking for solutions but I haven't found any that successfully worked. Ive rebooted both my Mac and iPhone with no success. ow for some reason when I plug my iPhone in it does not even charge but my Mac reads it and it shows up in the iTunes store so I tried syncing it again 1 more time snap it just gets stuck on step 1. I must also say state that is did successfully back up but absolutely will not sync. Can anybody please help me out without resetting my iPhone. Thanks

Thanks Gail but ive tried that as well as logging oht and back into my accounts on my iphone and mac but I still get that message. I actually found a solution by unckecking my synced music playlist and clicking sync to remove it and then reclicked on my playlist to sync and it actually synced notmally and I got all of my new songs so I wanted to test it again so I clicked on sync again and the message once again popped up until I did the un-syncing and re-syncing again. I guess I will keep doing that in the future even though its annoying but its better than resetting my iphone.

Why don't you call Apple tech support thru your provider. They will be able to help you in short order.
PS - If you want help here you need to provide a little more information i.e. how much memory does your iPhone -4- have and how much free memory do you have after restoring from the cloud?

When you look at your iPhone, are you looking in the Music app or in the iTunes app?  Be sure you are looking in the Music app, and look in the Songs category.  If your songs are not here, you may want to try syncing your information again through iTunes.  To do this, uncheck "Sync Music" and then click apply or sync in the bottom right corner of iTunes, and then recheck "Sync Music" and then click apply or sync again.
    I hope this helps!

  • I tried to sync music from iTunes to my iPhone and when I click on "on this phone" the songs are there, but they are greyed out and have a circle in front of them.  I can not click on those songs and when I eject the phone they are not on the phone.

I tried to sync music from iTunes to my iPhone and when I click on "on this phone" the songs are there, but they are greyed out and have a circle in front of them.  I can not click on those songs, delete or anything and when I eject the phone they are not on the phone.  I tried to re-add the songs and it says it can't add songs because they've already been added.  So HOW can I get the songs to actually ADD to my phone to where I can listen to them?  It's like they're stuck in Sync limbo or something!  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

  • How do you delete songs that you purchased through iTunes but don't show up when you connect the iphone to iTunes they don't show up in music when you click on "On this phone"? I have my phone setup to manually manage music. Please help.

    Hi, Mrs.Frankie57.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you want to delete a song from your iOS device on iOS 7, tap Songs, swipe the song from right to left, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

    Why can't you verify it?
Do you not receive the verification email address?

  • My Phone Sorta Bricked Itself, Any Ideas?

So here's my odd string of events. About a year ago, a good customer of mine gave me his 1st Gen iPhone when he got his 3G phone. This was very nice of him, although the phone wasn't in perfect condition. The back was a little dented and the hold button had stopped working. Hold button meaning the button on the top of the phone. Also called power or sleep. You know the one.
So I used the phone for a long time, and except for the fact that I couldn't make phone calls (THANKS AT&T!!), it was good.
I decided to refurbish the phone, so I went online and bought a new rear panel (that was red!) and a new hold switch, which also includes the volume buttons and headphone jack. Well turns out the panel I got was not complete, so after popping the phone open, I had to put it back together with the original parts. I had to pop open the phone before I ordered these parts too, to make sure I was getting the right part number for the hold switch. So at this point the phone was open twice.
So I was most frustrated and returned all the parts.
Few months later (last week) I decided to do it again, the poor physical condition of my phone was really starting to annoy me. It was all for the better, the parts were much cheaper. So this time around I got a blue rear panel, and this one was complete. I got a new hold switch, new antenna cover, and a new chrome bezel. The chrome bezel was messed up and I threw it away and kept the original. The cover seemed to be perfect, as was the hold switch. So I took the phone apart, and installed the new hold switch in the blue case. This required taking a bunch of screws and one physical switch from the old case.
So the repair came out well, the phone looked pretty tight, and all was well for a little while. Shortly after this upgrade, the phone started to randomly not function, claiming that it needed to be restored. Then you'd reboot it or just wait it out and suddenly it would start working. Then sometime it would say the SIM card was invalid. Then it would go away and work. So it kinda got stuck on the no sim/emergency calls only mode. At this point I figured ok, i'll try to restore it. But the restores haven't worked. They would freeze at the same point (about 75% through) in the process. Then the screen starting to have flickering problems. I kept trying to do restores, the screen flickers got worse, until now the screen hasn't lit up in days. Keep in mind these weren't hardware flickers, like a bad backlight. These were more like graphics card flickers. So now I'm at the point where I can restart the phone and get it to show up in iTunes, in restore mode. But every restore fails with errors like this:
The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (#)
Note the # above, that's there because the number is always different. I've seen 9, 25, 1602.
So this whole process has been over the past 4 days. It's very weird the way the phone worked at first, then seemed to get progressively worse by the hour.
Thing is, you really don't even touch any raw electronics when you do this. There is one surface mount connector to attach the hold switch ribbon. But everything else is still contained within the phone, under shields etc. It seems very unlikely that I could have done anything to fry the motherboard. And how would it get worse over time, its very very odd. One thing I did was switch back to the original hold switch, just for the **** of it. But that seemed to have no effect.
So now I have my SIM card in a $10 gophone so I can at least make calls. And my iphone... it's screen hasn't even flickered a single photon in about 2 days. It does sporadically show up in iTunes, telling me it's in restore mode and has to be restored. But every restore fails. Today it even tried to restore with iphone3.0, but no luck.
Oh I also tried removing itunes and the apple mobile device extension, and reinstalling them. It had no effect. I've searched the web and come up with lots of small solutions like change the usb port, restart the computer, etc. None of those have made any changes at all.
So it sure sounds like the phone is dead. But I don't have the money to replace it so I'm really hoping someone has SOME kind of trick up their sleeve that might bring this phone back to life!?

    Amazing!
After 100 failed restore attempts, restore #101 worked. Now the phone is fully restored and running OS 3.0. With one problem, the screen never came back on. The phone is fully synced with my music, I can call it and it will ring, I can hear it checking my email. But no screen. No light from the screen and from what I can tell, it doesn't seem to be accepting touches on the screen either.
Last night I took the logic board out, and reinstalled it, making sure all the connections were firm. It still failed at least one more sync after that, maybe two. Then it did it's thing.
What do you think of this now??

My iphone 4S wont allow me to restore a bckup of icloud it has just rebooted the os and for over 24 hours i have been trying to fix it i use this phone for my job so i need help. when i try to restore it says "Your iphone could not be activated becuase the activation server is unavailable, If the problom presests goto apple.com/support"   It has done this for 27 hours now PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

    - Connect the iPod to the computer and see if iTunes sees it. If it sees it try to get the photos off the iPod.
    - Next let the battery fully drain. It will likely take days. After charging for at least an hour try again
    - Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
