This stuff just does not work.

I appreciate the efforts Apple has made to make tools available to manage OSX and iOS devices but this stuff is just not ready for prime time. I set up a 10.9 server, enabled profile manager and was able to install a profile via /mydevices on a Macbook pro. I was able to remove things from the dock and things looked very promising. This was over a month ago.
Today, we are ready to enroll our lab machines and nothing is working. At all. Setup has not changed from the test machine a month ago. Profile Manager is turned on but clients are having all kinds of different events happening. Some are able to get to the Enroll screen but when you click Install Profile, you get a spinning dial forever until you force quit and nothing is installed. Other machines are unable to connect to /mydevices at all and yet another group gets to /mydevices/ and when you attempt to authenticate, it just hangs there at the login box even though the correct credentials were entered. Other machines get a message that indicates that the profile is invalid; however, the profile we are using is the one that was downloaded from the Profile Manager server.
I know this is a users forum so I don't blame other users for these issues but there is little to no help online in solving these issues. The manuals gleefully tell you how simple it is to just turn on the service and go but there is no help when things do not work right.
Not a fun time in education when you're trying to prepare for the school year and these tools are not working consistently, if at all.

Don't worry, you can install iTunes on Windows 7. Just make sure the recipient knows to download the correct version of the installer.

    When I clicked on itunes it didn't open. When I rebooted my computer it said it couldn't close itunes but as far as I could make out it wasn't even open. I reinstalled it to repair whatever was wrong and this time it said it needed to close because it had encountered a problem, it still hadn't even opened. I uninstalled it and deleted all traces of it, as it said to do somewhere in these forums, then I reinstalled it and it had a problem with quicktime. I installed the standalone version, as it said to do somewhere in these forums, and it says,

    Nothing happens when I click Retry so I cancel and the it says,
    "Error 1714. The older version of QuickTime cannot be removed. Contact you technical support group"
    Who are they?
    Click OK on that one and I get a 1603 permanant failure error.
    I have tried all I can find including updating my installer and going around in circles,sacrificing things, praying chanting, dancing under the full moon and so on. There must be some simple little thing I've missed. Could some kind souls please help me out as I don't think there is another piece of software I can use with my iPod. Why is that by the way?

  • Installing Firefox with windows 7 64bit mode just does not work.

    I have windows 7 64bit mode. I cannot install firefox, it crashes all the time when I open it. I know the problem is because my windows 7 is in 64bit mode. Can you (firefox support) or someone on this forum provide the simple and easy steps of getting it to work. Also can you (firefox) hurry up and release a 64bit version. I'm using google chrome and crazy browser as they seem to have no problems at all. I really want to use firefox but it just won't set up for me because I'm running win7 64bit mode. If I was running win7 32bit mode I wouldn't be having any issues. Has anyone out there got a simple step by step solution for this? It it mind boggling that with todays technology no one has a simple fix for this issue. Help!!!!!

    I have been running Win 7 64 bit on an HP Pavilion lap for several months. The whole browser thing has been a nightmare. My work involves heavy duty internet research. Firefox crashes every few minutes. There is no specific event I can find that kicks this off, but running the latest Flash Players and Adobe Reader makes it a lot worse. In fact, I had to set up the adobe reader to not run within the Firefox window. I had to back off to an old version of adobe Reader and Flash Player to accomplish this. I love Firefox. I was disappointed to have to uninstall it as it was impossible to run searches with it.
    So then it proved to be that IE either version 8 or 9 was even worse. I could not keep it up long enough to run a search.
    So I installed Chrome which has some nice features, but it also crashes, albeit more gracefully so I do not lose my place and it makes a quick recovery but there are many online applications where Chrome just does not work.
    My son also has Win7 64 bit and says he is also having the same problems.
    I want my Firefox back! Please fix it.

    Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
    Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)

    That would be it. Sometimes you can tweak the album & artist names enough for iTunes to download matching art from the store, or you could add a bonus track featuring 1 second of silence and attach artwork to that, or you could convert the files to Apple Lossless.

    Because of the sparse storage format of the Backups.backupdb directory, the Finder thinks the directory is much larger than it actually is. In fact, in many cases, such as mine, it thinks that it is MUCH larger than the physical drive on which it resides.
    For example, I have a 1TB drive and the Time Machine directory claims to be more than 5TB. When I go to copy it over to another 1TB drive it says that it cannot execute the copy because the size is too large and there is not enough room. Although there actually is enough room.
    In any case, the procedure outlined in this memo ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT WORK.

    Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] and see if that helps!

    Yes, if you have been backing up on a regular basis.
    If this is your first time backing up, then no.
    you can check edit - preference - backup - see what is listed

  • My one year old touch screen laptop keyboard is dead - just does not work

    I have a Touch smart tx2-1370us notebook. The keypad has stopped compeltly functioning. it started with a couple of letters initially and within ten days the whole key pad is dead. the touch screen is functioning but slow. The system is also getting hung again and again.
    Please suggest how to make this work....
    By the way, i have tried removing the battery and putting it back.. that does not work.. at least not on my tablet.
    The HP Customer centre in india refused to help citing that this model is not available in India....

    If it was officially unlocked by the carrier it was originally locked to, then it should have been fine.
    If it was hacked in any way to make it function as if it were unlocked, then upon restore the iOS firmware failed to re-install correctly and it is now a brick - so in that case, yup, might as well toss it in the trash.

    Is your computer ON while you're trying to sync through wifi?  Sync through wifi will work only if your computer is running at the same time.

    yeah i got it working and it certainly can be done in iphoto
    there is so much arduous work one has to do to learn these i lives!!!!
    you first send it to DVD
    then it lands in iphoto
    and you can absolutely do what you said one cant cos i just did it.
    what a day all day long a learning curve for sure.

    Hello experts,
    starting any ess application on portal side (leave request), I get the follwoing error code:
    com.sap.pcuigp.xssfpm.java.FPMRuntimeException: User TESTUSER does not exist in this period
    Starting application personal data I get the message: "There are no services in the area."
    I know, that this error has often been discussed in this forum. So I check the hints I found, but I could not solve my problem.
    The HR user TESTUSER is assigned to the portal user TESTUSER in IT0105 and the user is not exceeded.
    TESTUSER got SAP_ALL on HR side.
    The error appears for all users, that worked propably a few days before.
    Login on portal side and HR works. ESS overview is shown for TESTUSER. For a user that has not a login to HR system it does not appear. So the single singn on (SSO) between portal and HR system seems to work.
    The ESS applications worked fine until two days ago. Portal guys said, they had not done any changes on portal side.
    Where could the error occure on HR side? How can I recognize if any changes have been made on HR side?

    TX HRUSER seems not working.
    Using the function 'Set Up and Maintain ESS User (Overview)' in TX HRUSER with my test-PERNR it is shown under 'Employees with deleted users'.
    Clicking on it I got the Information:
    PERS.NO: 12345678 (i.e.) NAME: Test User FROM: 01.01.2011 TO: 31.12.9999 USER: Name:  FROM: TO: User does not exist.
    But in IT0105 the PERNR is assigned to user TESTUSER in that period.
    When I try to assign  PERNR to TESTUSER with TX HRUSER under 'Assign Employees to Existing Users' I read the follwing information:
    USER: TESTUSER Name: FROM: 01.01.2011 TO: 31.12.9999 USER GROUP: IT PERS.NO.: NAME: FROM: TO: no employee assigned.
    Trying to 'assign employees' I get the message 'Error occurred when creating relationship for user ESSUSER-B to employee'.
    Please create the appropriate assignment manually in HR master data.
    But I have assigned it manualy in IT 0105.
    Concurrent employment (CCURE PAUIX) is not activated.

  • Junk mail just does not work as it should

    I've had this for ages and just put up with it.
    I have my jumk mail settings set for
    Enable: the following types of messages are exempt from junk mail filtering: sender of message is in my address book (and in previouos recipients).
    I assume that this means that anyone sending a message who is in my address book will not then appear as junk. This does not happen and despite repeated attempts to assign each one as not being junk it never learns as I thnk it is supposed to. A very few of my incoming messages of people who are in my address book do not appear as junk but I can't see a pattern.
    Over time I have tried all kinds of ways to set the various settings but to no avail and now I really think that I should try and sort it as it is low grade annoying. I would appreciate any help anoyne could give.

    It looks like iCal hasn't updated when you updated your operating system if it's still writing to a .mac address like you suspected. The most recent version is 4.0.1. If you need to update your actual application you can try copying from another computer with snow leopard installed (I've tested this), or reinstalling Snow Leopard. (not a fun option for such a small issue I know)

    Please be patient with me this is the first forum I have ever posted in .
       My problem started with a simple phone call from bt , "as a valued customer would I like to have bt infinity installed "
    That was over four months ago how I wish I wasn't a valued customer because I have had nothing but lies lies and more lies .
     I am the first to admit I am not the most hi tech minded person on the planet but I had a home hub before and managed fine .
          from the day it was installed nothing worked as it should the speeds where like dial up and I constantly got told can not connect to Internet , I have spent hours upon hours on the phone to people I feel just read of a script ,I have been told its the hub this has been changed, I have been told its the router this has been changed I have also been told it was my printer of only 4 months old (this was changed at my expense ). I have had several open reach engineers out who all witness the problem but insist there is no installation fault . I`m told its at the exchange . I have been pushed from one call centre to the next told a million different reasons why this happens but nobody can sort it out and give me an honest answer .
       I've given up hope to be honest the last exchange I had I was told not an open reach engineer will attend my property but an broadband expert but low and behold an open reach guy turned up and promptly left . Then the phone call is every thing "OK"
    your joking me was my reply "oh leave it 24 hours and see if it sorts it self out " when pushing for an answer as to why the expert never came I was told I will have to pay for this (joke)
      my kids have told me the only way to make it work is to go into settings and turn of WI fi and then back on this resets it and works for another short burst
         Like I say I'm not high tech minded but I'm sure I can surf the web ,use my I pad , and the kids can play on the x box (something they have stopped now as in every game they get disconnected with a little picture of a phone plug coming up telling them to connect to the Internet ) we are not using old stuff ipad2, new laptop windows 7 , I phones and I pod touches (never at more than ant two at a time ) The only option I feel I have left is to leave bt I have given them every opportunity to sort this , I no I will have to argue the toss about contracts but in my eyes its a two way thing I promised to pay they promised to supply a Internet service so cant see this being a problem .
       1.  Has any one else suffered this problem and did they get it sorted.
       2.  Can anybody help or suggest my next action.
       3.  Can anybody confirm if bt has a complaints department as I have been told not (several times)
       4.  I've been told there job is to supply broadband to my house (not wireless this is a little extra but not part of the paid service is this correct . If so the advert on TV is very misleading )

    Can you help us by trying to narrow things down a bit....
    Firstly are you able to connect your main PC/laptop via wired/ethernet and run BT speedtest fibre optic FTTC option http://www.speedtester.bt.com/
    And let us know your results IP Profile etc.
    If this is reliable and a decent speed...... then that may indicate a wireless problem and not your exchange.
    Maybe your HH3 is clashing with a neighbours signal/channel.
    This free wireless scanner http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/ will help you identify a clear or less used/weakest channel. Then change your HH3 from Automatic to a clear channel number. Log into your hub http://bthomehub.home/ and go to advanced settings then to wireless... make change from automatic to a named channel then click apply.
    Wireless n will get the best speed from Infinity.

    To summarize need to find out if your ok over a wired connection.

    Replacing the HH3 for a better product might be another route.
