  • Firefox continually gives me a "not responding" message when I try to do anything

'''bold text'''A couple of days ago I upgraded to Firefox 4.0. Beginning yesterday, Firefox opens very slowly if at all and then gives me a "not responding" message if I try to do anything. I am running Windows 7

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref:Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

None of my pictures that I uploaded into iPhoto are in my Finder under Pictures.  Should I copy and paste my folders from iPhoto into here, in case something happens to my iPhoto program (in addition to backing them up onto an external hard drive like I already do)?
No, that's just wasting space.  A back up needs to be on a different disk.
Your photos are within the iPhoto Library.

  • I have the latest update.  Why does my reader still hang up and give me the "Not responding" message.  I'm on Windows Vista.

This is a most frustrating situation.  Constantly getting the "not responding" message and any further click of the mouse, and adobe reader goes pale and I have to "end process."  What's the deal?  This use to be a very reliable program.  Now, it's nothing but frustrating and bothersome.

I had the 10.1.10 version and have updated it to the 10.1.11 version.  I
restarted my computer.  Same old problem.  Adobe Reader hangs up anytime I
try to move a document to the second page, for example.  Is there an older
version I can go back to to avoid this problem.  I'm seeking to view two
documents--both from Windows Publisher saved as pdf files.  No luck

Hi, what program do you have the document open in?

  • My Firefox won't quit and gives a "not responding" message after I use Google Mail. I have tried starting in "safe" mode and the problem still occurs.

I have an issue where Firefox wont' quit and gives a "not responding" message after I have been using Google Mail. It works fine when I am not using that program. I have tried Safe Mode and the problem still happens when I go to Google Mail, so it is not connected with add-ons, extensions, etc.

  • I get constant "Not Responding" messages and Thunderbird freezes. I've done everything suggested on this forum. Nothing helps.

I've done everything I can find in this forum - using Safe mode, changing McAfee settings, etc., etc., etc. I downloaded Thunderbird again and reinstalled it. Nothing helps. I can look at one email but if I try to delete it I get the "Not responding" message. If I try to go to the next message I get the "not responding" message. If I try to do anything while the screen is frozen, it goes grey and I get the "not responding" message. Short of changing my email viewer, is there anyway I can fix it.

I have this problem too and it is EXTREMELY frustrating!!!

  • I have recently been having problems using Firefox: it continually gives a "Not Responding" message.

I have been having problems using Firefox for the past few months:
Whenever I log on, I get a "Not Responding" message, and Firefox "freezes." I then have to "click" my mouse several times to again be able to use Firefox - but only for a few minutes. Firefox then freezes again and shows another "Not Responding" message.
Because of this repeated "crashing," I have been using I.E. as my browser, because it does NOT have any such problems.
How can I FIX this problem with Firefox?

  • Firefox is constantly crashing when I am in the Pogo Games app - it even crashed when I was on live c hat with a Pogo helper - this is SO frustrating - all I see lately is the (not responding) message - please help!!!!

I will be playing a game in Pogo, when the game suddenly stops and starts and then locks up. The message up top is Mozilla Firefox (not responding) - then if I close out and reboot, Firefox gives me "how embarrassing - we lost your session" message........please help! I LOVE Firefox, but I do not know what the problem is - I have deleted the histories and most of the bookmarks thinking it might help, but it is getting worse.

    Hell0.
It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • HT1339 Error: This game cannot be launched. Ipod will not respond

I have an error message on my iPod classic.  It states, Error:  This game cannot be launched.  And now my iPod wheel will not respond.  I am unable to shut it down or connect it to my iTunes.

Try a hard reset.  This procedure does not erase any content stored on the device. It is similar to rebooting your PC.  To reset the iPod, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • What is this thing?  how do I make it not useless?

    Greetings.
    OS 10.4.8
    macbook (et al)
I used to be able to simply type something in the finder window and it would return files that actually contained what I typed.
Now, now matter what I type, I end up with hundreds of completely unrelated items that aren't even close.
I could ask my 3 year old nephew and get as many useless, waste of time replies.
I've looked through the archives here and found many philisophical discussions of who said what, why designers make what choices, who likes what and why, etc.....
None of that helps me figure out (not that I was able to find - maybe the group search engine is also using spotlight!!!) how to actually find stuff that I need to locate NOW (like I used to be able to do), and NOT have to reset the window view to get rid of the groups, extra unneeded tool bars, etc......
Please help me regain my former efficiency.
    Much appreciated.
    ht

I'll give you a head start since I know you have a lot of reading from the last post...
When you type something into the search oval of a Finder window, it looks for that term in the metadata (filename, keywords, file type, supplementary data, etc) and content (for files seen as containing searchable text content).
This is what accounts for your seemingly unrelated hits.
You could narrow the search to look only at metadata, which in many-but not all-cases will effectively limit it to the name, by preceding the search term with "
For example to find files with the term house in the metadata, you would enter "house. Conversely, you could limit the search to content only by using ' . This works in both the Spotlight window at the top right of your screen (the magnifying glass) and in the Cmd-F window.
For more directed queries-like when you really only want to search for filename-you can use the criteria lines in the Cmd-F window (alone or in conjunction with a term in the search oval)
    EDIT:
It is possible to change the search defaults to Name:Contains in Cmd-F.
You do it by editing the default_smart.plist file:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/default_smart.plist
When you get to Finder.app, rt/cmd-click and choose Show Package Contents to gain access to the Contents folder.
In TextEdit (or the Property List Editor if you installed the Developer Tools package from the OSX DVD) add the following section within the <array> area:
    <dict>
    <key>FXSliceKind</key>
    <string>Snam</string>
    </dict>

  • HT201320 Okay, not enough space to give information so try this. I have an Ipad with Account not Verified message. How can I verify my account?

I have operational PC skills but have never looked at an Ipad. I'm trying to help a friend with no PC skills learn to use her new (April 29 purchase) Ipad. She was very frustrated and gave up on it shortly after buying it. Initially she had support come to the house and install a router and demonstrate the use of the Ipad. Some usage began but without frequent use and some skills, minimal operational skills evaporated.
I'm getting a little familiar with the Ipad. I think it is communicating with the router. When I go to Settings I see WiFi has NETGEAR07 to the right. Next when I go to iCloud I see a message (Check your (e-mail address) for instructions to verify this account.I looked and did not see any instructions. She may have deleted the instructions long ago.  I did contact Apple and had her user ID password reset. What do I have to do to get the Account verified?
The Operator Manual mentions a Setup process but I don't see any way to initiate it again. Just thinking that might be the step to start with.

  • Action initiated: Upgrade Mac Book Pro to Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.-, via Wi-fi. After 2 hours said could not install it. I tried again through Ethernet (cable). No success. Should I buy itagain? How this thing with the Apple store works? Not so familiar.

The OS X Mountain Lion I tried to download Wi-Fi on Mac Book Pro was not successfull. Should I buy it again? Should I check with Apple store for credit?
I successfully instaled it in iMac, but have problem with laptp. I also think I should not have bought 2 upgardes, becase if I have 2 computers, one paid upgrade is good for both computers. Am I wrong? SOmeone can advise how to proceed? I want to try again through Ethernet - cable internet - instead of Wi-Fi. Thank you

You should not have paid twice. If you logged into the App Store with the same AppleID as you used to purchase Mountain Lion the first time, you should not have been charged again.
If you internet connection is not working well enough to download it, do you have access to another network that might be faster? Perhaps and Apple Store nearby?
