This Video Cannot be Played

Every time I try to play a video on my new G3s iPhone I get an error message "This Movie Cannot be Played" This happens on YouTube, TV.Com, or UStream. No video will play from the internet.

Don't you love when someone asks a question in forums, then never checks back to post (or checks back, but don't leave a trace that they were here)? Anyway...
Yes - You need to use the YouTube app on your homepage - if you go to YouTube via the Safari browser, it is trying to run the full version of Flash, which isn't yet supported by the iPhone (seems it will be supported.... When H E double toothpicks freezes over). Sigh - I wants my Hulu!!!

  • This Video Cannot Be Played Sorry, The Maze Runner is currently unavailable. 422

    Post moved to proper forum.

    Hello Apple Community,
Any thoughts on this? As an added data point, the blu-ray player connected to the same TV plays blu-ray discs without any issue.
    Thanks.

  • Rented HD Movie - Video cannot be played because format incompatible

Tonight rented HD movie American Rhapsody HD
    Download & autorisation ok
    When attempt to play
get this video cannot be played because format is incompatible
    with apple tv
    Have Apple tv ver 2.1
After many tries gave up and rented movie in regular format which woked fine
Will probably be double billed unless apple gets and responds to my messages
Why this problem. Have rented other HD movies no problem before
    Thanks

You can't watch any trailers at all from the purchase page, but you can play them all from the trailers page.
Your movie has completely downloaded but won't play and the tv reports it is in an unrecognised format.
    Correct.
I would have considered that you could have simply had your movie corrupted in some way during download if playing it was the only problem. I wouldn't have thought that the preview from the purchase/rental page would have been from the same source as the trailer page (but I could be wrong), which makes this rather strange.
Indeed. Previews on purchase page are in standard resolution and none of them play. Both HD and standard resolution cinematic trailers play no problem.
Do you have any issues playing your own content, podcasts or you tube.
I can play music, see photos, play audio and video podcasts (HD included). Youtube works too.
How is the tv connected to the internet, how is it connected to the tv.
The device is connected to the TV via HDMI cable and over wifi to internet.
Instead of just restarting it, have you tried pulling every cable from it leaving it for 30 seconds and then powering it up again.
This is exactly what I did when I restarted it.

  • When playing a video I have downloaded from iTunes I get the message "This Movie Cannot be played on this machine"

When playing a video I have downloaded from iTunes I get the message "This Movie Cannot be played on this machine".  The weird thing is that I downloaded the film from iTunes and while it was downloading I was watching it with my kids on my IMac. Once it had finished downloading I went with them to the living room Tao carry on watching on our apple tv.  The apple TV wouldn't play it and said I needed to authorise my Pc, then the IMac gave the message above and I haven't been able to play it since.  All my other downloaded films play.  I am running iTunes version 10.2.2. And my iMac is Running Snow Leopard OS 10.6.7.  Anyone who can shed some light on this weird situation will have my upmost thanks

    Hi,
I have the same problem. Been trying to find some answers, but not a lot of info about this. It seems to happen only when:
    - itunes library is stored remote (NAS or external HD)
    - starting a movie/show before download has finished will make it fail next time you try to start
Hope this gets fixed soon.. it's making purchasing content via itunes a hassle

    Hey dylanburks12,
It sounds like you are seeing issues when attempting to sync videos to your iPod. I have an article that will help explain some possible situations regarding this issue:

  • Getting back the "this file cannot be played on an iPod" error message

Apparently, my iTunes library contains some song files that are out-of-spec and unplayable on an iPod. When I first plugged in my iPod, I remember getting a message to the effect of "The file 'FOO' was not copied to the iPod 'BAR' because this file cannot be played on an iPod." This message repeated for several dozen files before I got annoyed and clicked the "Do not show me this message again" checkbox.
Well, now I want to go through my iTunes library and clean up these incompatible files, so I WANT to see these error messages again. Is there any way, perhaps by mucking with the iTunes plist file, of getting them back?
Any and all help appreciated. Thanks!

  • "This game cannot be played" message??

I have a 5th Gen ipod and I bought 2 games about 6-10 moths ago. I went to play one yesterday and the ipod gave me the message "this game cannot be played" and tells me to connect the ipod to itunes and reinstall the games. How do you reinstall the games and more so, why is it giving me this message? have some things changed within itunes via a new update or something that won't allow game to be played? help please - thanks!

First, what kind of iPod you got because games only work for certain iPods. I know they work for iPod Video. Don't know about the others. Also, the only way you can play them is on an iPod so if they're incompatible with your iPod, then you've just wasted like $30 on games you have no use for.

    Hi there,
You may want to varify that your system meets the minimum system requirements for viewing HD content. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Possible Fix for Frequent "This game cannot be played" Errors

I was seeing the error, "This game cannot be played," almost every time I tried to start a game on my 30GB iPod. The game would always eventually start fine on the second or third try, though.
I was just living with the error and figured it was a bug Apple would eventually work out. Then it occured to me one day that I'd neglected the fact that the iPod is, in part, a glorified hard disk. Maybe it needed some TLC.
So, I used DiskWarrior 4 to rebuild/repair it and the error has not appeared once since. It's been about four or five days.
Just thought others out there might have been having the same problem...

I also had this problem, and since I don't want to shell out $100 for DiskWarrior nor do I wish to do a restore (I manually manage my songs, photos, videos, etc.), I found that resyncing the games from within iTunes (on a Mac) is viable as well.
    1. Select your iPod to bring up the overview/management window.
    2. Select the games tab.
    3. Enable the "Sync games" checkbox.
    4. Select "Sync [Your iPod]" from the "File" menu OR right click on your iPod in the iTunes Devices list and select "Sync."

  • Error: "This game cannot be played."

I get this error when I try to play any game I purchased from the iTunes Music Store:
    This game cannot be played.
Connect your iPod to iTunes and reinstall the game.
The only way I know of reinstalling is turning off syncing for games and applying, then turning it back on again and applying so it installs again. Why isn't this working for me?
This is not the same as the failed to authorize message.

I cannot load the game I purchased onto my iPod. I get the following error message:
The game Mahjong was not copied to the iPod "Rich's iPod" because you are not authorized to play it on this computer.
I am using the PC version of iTunes. My generation 5 video iPod is running ver 1.2 of the iPod software. I shut down and restarted the PC but still have the problem.

Log in to the Developer forum. You will find instructions on how to install the lastest beta. Your problem is the beta you have installed has expired. All of them did on October 5; you will find hundreds of threads discussing this. If you have a beta it is assumed that you will continue as a beta tester, so a simple update using iTunes will not work.
If you no longer want to be a beta tester install the GM 7.0.2 by restoring from iTunes using DFU mode.
