This was fun

This was an adventure. Thanks to a lot of help on here most of it is over.
So let's start off. G5, iMac. I have been using Apple since 1980 (Apple II, 16k, 12k operating system, if the volume wasn't right on the tape player it didn't load the operating system correctly days).
So I plunk the DVD and let her rip.
Everything looks great, but I get a blue screen. This is not a flat blue screen, this is the normal blue screen background I had minus the desktop files and the rainbow wheel is turning endlessly. It turns out spotlight is taking forever and a day and you can not do anything in this "spotlight" mode. Nothing works. The finder is kind of there, the dock is kind of there, and so on. But it freezes after awhile, to play it safe I let it run all night. So I read all this discussion I find "blue screen" and I follow that path. That is the wrong path. See, it is THE FINDER that is freezing. (Moral of that story, is what is blue to one person is not necessarily my blue).
Well one of the ideas is to go to single user mode and remove the login panel, an application event, ape, etc. But that is not my problem, but I do it anyway. It turns out I have a bluetooth keyboard. And in single user mode, bluetooth gets turns off, so that doesn't work out too well, I need a USB keyboard. However, I grab an old USB keyboard (non-Apple, don't have the driver's installed), that doesn't work either, however it does unpair my bluetooth keyboard and now I can not do any short cuts. (For example can't boot off the DVD anymore or use my iMac as a target drive). There's a bummer. (Moral of the story, use only Apple keyboards).
Off to Apple store, I grab a keyboard and come back. Reinstall number 4 and now since I have gotten rid of the login panel I must log in. This is a good sign. I also check my hard drive it is good. But I zap the pram and I notice something, the finder looks different (just a little). So I play around and I can start Safari but that pesky rainbow is still spinning. So thanks to someone here I found I need to delete a folder to make the finder behave correctly. It boots, however, I am no longer an Admin.
Again thanks to someone here, I get a new Admin password and I am good to go. It was a pain but not impossible.
However, I do lose Photoshop 7, not sure about Palm anymore (will check), probably don't need Timbuktu anymore which means I don't an IP announce program once I get my parents on Leopard. Some pluses some minuses. I think Apple SHOULD NOT RELEASE ON A FRIDAY NIGHT UNLESS EVERYONE WORKS THE WEEKEND IN CUPERTINO. (hint hint).
It was fun, it was real, but it was not real fun.
