This white spots, and a little magenta line

I noticed recently that I have a couple of those white spots now on the right, center portion of my screen. I have one of the very first Aluminum PowerBook's, I got it in January 2004 immediately after the Titanium's were replaced. It's one slightly larger white spot, a smaller one above it as well a couple in the center. Also, there is a smallish magenta line on the right side of the screen. Is this a bad pixel(s)? I know these white spots were a big issue before, but at the time my computer didn't have them but now they do. Is this something AppleCare can help me with?

The same thing happened to me, and yes they should take care of it.
What you need to do is visit the Apple store and see a Genius to submit the repair request. All he needs to do is take a look at it and see if it's worthwhile. Most likely it is. When the Genius saw mine, he immediately said "yep I see it, anyone could see it..." And my 2 white spots were about than 1/16." Then they'll ship it off for you and probably replace the LCD. Mine should come back in a couple days.

  • Pixilation and White Spots and some times lines

Something is up with my AppleTV. during menu selection AND watching shows/movies random "specs" or pixilation in random places are showing up. I tried to swap out the HDMI, restore and made sure the media looks fine on my computer. All seems fine. Is there a way to "clean" the AppleTV harddrive some how? What else could it be? My tv is fine too (have a place station I've swapped the HDMI and TV ports, and this only happens with the AppleTV)
    thanks

I think I am having the same problem. I took a picture of what the problem is for me... this picture is pretty much what I typically see, but note that the dots are showing everywhere on the screen; I am only showing a section:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/AZPbsPnHBt5n18V9UVj90A?authkey=MgsBBlp-ZiI& feat=directlink
I've plugged the AppleTV into a different TV, and the same problem appears. I've also swapped cables (tried two component cables, and it's current on HDMI), and the problem is still there, so the AppleTV is definitely the culprit.
I believe it has to do with overheating, or at least, overheating at some point. The AppleTV is by itself on a shelf (nothing below, and about 12" clear above it too), so it should NOT have happened, but I unplugged the device for a whole day, and plugged it back in the next day -- no dots. Then they slowly starter reappearing as the device was heating back up. It looks to me like the graphics system is toast and I am guessing the problem will only get worse.
I've had the AppleTV since a few weeks after its initial launch, but it's been doing this for a couple of months now. It's very annoying, especially for something that is supposed to make HDTVs look stunning...
Is that the problem other posts are seeing here? Anyone was able to get it fixed somehow?

  • Nokia E6 White question and one little question

    Hi,
I am planning on buying the Nokia E6 in white, but I am really worried about the fact whether the keypad or the cover of the memory card and USB slot will get dirty. (yellowish)
And my second question: The Nokia E6 is provided with a leather case in some countries, but I am about to buy one E6 and I think it's not provided here in the Netherlands. I wanted to know if anyone knows the exact model number of the leather case provided in the box, so I can buy it separately.
    Thanks!

Hi, I have bought the white E6 from the Netherlands, and you're right - there is no case (and no memory card).
The USB slot shouldn't get too dirty that easily since it is not white, but silver (same as the back cover).
Haven't had the handset long enough to know if the keys get dirty.  The finish on the keys is a matt white (not glossy/shiny).
One downside of the white (and possibly silver) is that when you set the backlighting on the phone to a low level (to save more power), it is quite difficult to the the keys.  I have had to set the backlight to at least medium so that the light is bright enough against the white keypad.
I must the colours offered are rather boring (white/silver/black) but presumably it is because it is sold as a business phone.

  • Weird little white spot

I got the powerbook last January, i have had it for 7 1/2 months. After i'd had it a few months a small white spot appeared roughly in the middle of the display. I have never seen dead or stuck pixels before. I guessed that it was a stuck on pixel. my daughter who had a dead pixel once saw it and said it's not a pixel thing. I ran one of those tests where a bunch of test patterns and colors are run on the screen. The spot takes up an area of several pixels. It's irregularly shaped, and is brighter in the center. It's about the size of a lower case letter o in the text i'm typing here, not sure what font it is. When the display had a sold dark color on it, the spot was very hard to see. It's most visible against a light background.
Has anyone heard of this or does anyone know what it's called? I know that a small number of dead or stuck pixels is not covered by the warrany, but i no longer believe this is a dead or stuck pixel.
this powerbook fell to the floor from about 2-3 feet up. It now has a slight dent or warp in the area of the catch. I don't remember if the fall was before or after the emergence of the little spot on the display. Could a fall cause the little spot? I know that the warranty would be void if the spot was caused by the fall. But i also have renters insurance that would cover either repair or replacement--not only of the spot but also of any damage from the fall.
I'm bummed out because my understanding is that Apple doesn't have powerbooks anymore, so i would not be able to get this one replaced. I don't mind getting it repaired, but i think the repairs might cost more than replacement to a point where the insurance would want to replace it.
There really is no comparable Apple laptop. The MacBook Pro doesn't come in a 12" size or anywhere near it, and the MacBook doesn't have the same audio components i need. The computer is onlyl 7 months old and i can't replace it. I hope i can get it repaired and i hope this spot on the display is not a complicated thing. The slight dent is not a problem, everything seems to work. but until looking into this, i didn't realize this computer can't be exchanged and replaced. That bothers me because i like the 12" powerbook G4, this is my second one.
    PBG4 1.5Ghz 12"512MB 80GB, PBG4 1Ghz12" 768M 80G   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   AirportXreme,AirportXpress,iPod,iBook12"dualUSB

No, i haven't done that yet. I'll try to do that this week. I like to be informed before going into situations like that so i was hoping there were mac users who were familiar with this white spot and whether it could be caused by the computer having been dropped. I'm pretty worried that the fact that it's been dropped will void my warranty for everything that could theoretically be possibly attributed to it. I haven't wanted to confront that. But i will be doing it soon. My computer is having some other problems now too, particularly it won't accept DVDs now, it spits them back out. Not good.

  • After 7 months white spots are showing

First I'd like to start by saying, i wear glasses, and I had to use magnifying glass as well to read the serial number. Second, it appears you cannot submit service tickets? 3rd this screen is ridiculously blue. I had to use a colorimeter to correct it as much as possible with a dynamic brightness that can't be disabled..
I bought my Father this laptop and he only uses it for email/web and watching soccer. The laptop always stays in the same place, and it is in immaculate condition. After 7 months there appears to be white spots which appear to be much more noticable with the dynamic brightness at full and only on certain colors, for example white.
There are only 2 white spots and I'm not sure if they are growing yet, but I assume he will have more in the future. Do they know what causes this? How is this fixed?

  • Small white spots on boot up

So I booted up my iMac this morning and before going into the login screen, I noticed this white spots on the top-left corner of the display:
Any one know of this problem or have the same problem? Sorry if it's blurry btw, crappy camera.

    It happens every time?
It looks like it is displayed and not physically on the LCD panel, do you agree?
Since you noticed this problem, have you shut down (powered off) completely? If not, try doing so and then restarting after the iMac cools down a bit.

  • Portege Z830 white spots - warranty refusal

I have Portege Z830. From several months I have 2 white spots on the screen. I went to the official service company for Bulgaria - Stemo Ltd. - which examined the computer and told me that I did this white spots by myself.
This is amazing! I imagined myself pressing the display with a screwdriver trying to make a white spot.
Seriously, user cannot by any means make this white spots. This is a malfunction of the display and the Stemo's refusal to replace it or mend it is not understandable.
I am adding pictures of the screen with well visible spots.
Please help or just take in mind the Stemo's reaction.

    Hi
    Inside a Plexiglas screen.
Plexiglas is covered with a special coating.
This coating when the damage (moisture, scratches caused by pressure on housing, defect FACTORY coating).
The solution is to remove the coating from the plexiglass. The layer is removed very easily and the matrix will shine brighter after the surgery. Plexiglas is very difficult to dismantle because it is very delicate and fragile.
Shell, which is the need to remove the Plexiglas. I applied the additional light-scattering films that I took out the old display. It helped disperse the light and the dots are not visible. Shell is not washed up.
I think it is a manufacturer defect.
    The matrix is ??Samsun.

  • FCP7: White Viewer and White Canvas (set to RGB)

    Hello,
I had been using the universal version of the first Final Cut Studio for a few years now without any issue. When I upgraded to FCS3, I can't get FCP7 to show any footage (or even Color Bars) in the Viewer or Canvas. You hear the audio of the footage but it's all WHITE. Both frames are set to RGB (not alpha).
I have fully re-installed FCP7 but I still see the same results. It doesn't seem to matter what easy setup I use either.
I can take the same DV or HDV footage and play it in Quicktime outside of FCP7 so I'm confident that my onboard graphics card is not having some sort of trouble.
I have a case open with AppleCare but so far they have not resolved this issue.
Is this White Viewer and Canvas issue happening to anyone else here?
    Thanks.

If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
    1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/trashing_fcpprefs.html
    2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
    3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.
    4) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.

I would like to inquire about how I could have my iPad 2 repaired or replaced. I bought it With a credit card via apple store website last June 19 of this year. At first, I already noticed a little white spot in the middle of the screen visible when the display on screen is dark. I thought this was okay. Now, My problem with it is that, it now has green discolorations at the center whenever the screen display is black or dark I.e. When a website's color is black or dark or whenever I go to the search interface.
    I am from the Philippines.
Please attend to this inquiry as promptly as possible. I'm sorry I have to send it here since I cannot see any email or inquiry page on the apple website. I also cannot reach the toll free number on my mobile phone.
    Thank you very much.

  • A little white "spot"

    Hi,
I've got a 15 inch macbook pro that I purchased in late 2007. As I was looking to the left of my screen I see what can only be described as a little white "spot". I wiped the screen and it's still there. What is this? What can I do about it?

You don't say how big the "spot" is but it sounds like a dead pixel. What can you do about it? Not much other then have your display replaced. Luck of the draw I guess as I've owned many a MacBook and never had a dead pixel on any of them. I do have two 30" Cinema Displays and on one of them I have a dead black pixel but it is so tiny it is of little annoyance.

  • Was just opening page on Chrome when computer went to white screen and became unresponsive. Did this several weeks ago too. Disk tools find no issues.

While trying to open a link on FB, my computer went to a white screen and become unresponsive. I had to do a hard close. It did reboot and the Disk Aid finds no problems when I ran Verify Disc. This happened 2 weeks ago as well and I had to do a Safe mode reboot. Things seem a little slow when I use internet-Google Chrome (updated). I have a MacBook Pro with  OS X 10.9.4  I'm not sure what else needs to be done? I'm not supertech savvy.

Hello! Since you don't have the startup disk your best shot is using fsck. Tom
when you re-start, hold down the apple key AND the "S" key You'll start up into a command line interface.. it'll look strange but just hang in there. When it's done booting up, you should see something that looks like this: localhost:/ root# at this point, type in 'fsck -f" please note the space before the dash, and of course, ignore the quote marks, then hit return You computer will no go thru some low level checks on your HD. Most likely you'll get a list of a few files that have problems and this procedure will fix them. This should take about 2 or 3 mins, so don't be in a rush. When the line says "VOLUME WAS MODIFIED", this means that changes were made. At this point you should be back at the same localhost:/ root# prompt. run fsck -f again. Wait for it to finish. if you continue to get the "Volume was modified" message, continue to run fsck -f until you'll get a prompt that says The Volume(your HD) appears to be ok, again with the localhost:/ root# prompt. AT this point, type reboot, hit enter and your computer will start up normally. This is not difficult, but you may want to give it a shot when your feel you have a few moments where you can attempt something new and not stress too much.

  • Line on the screen of my ipod touch 4th gen. Starts left of the screen as a blue (bright backgr) or red (dark backgr) line becoming white halfway and going across screen. Any ideas/solutions?

I have an irritating line on the screen of my 4th gen ipod touch going left to right. It starts out as a blue line (with bright backgroung) or red line (with dark background). Switching backrounds will also switch the color of the line. Sometimes it stops halfway the screen. Sometimes the blue/red line becomes white somewhere halfway the screen and continuing as a white line to the other side of the screen. It mostly starts out as a normal screen and when using the blue/red line appears and when using some more the white part appears.Mostly in the beginning the line starts flickering and becomes more steady after a while.
I have searched on the internet but can only find info on some pixels acting weird (stuck/frozen/dead pixels). This is a whole line of pixels not doing what they are supposed to do.
Anyone an idea what this could be and how to solve it?
    Thanks,

Did you ever fix this? My daughters is the same. Treated with tender loving care, we reset to factory and it disappeared but was back again after 2 or 3 days. Still in warranty so going to take to the genius bar, however a bit concerned that because it belongs to an 11 year old they are going to assume she's damaged it.

  • Preview Printing Negative Images - White text and lines on black background

Desperate for help here. After upgrading to Tiger, I have more instances when Preview displays a PDF correctly but prints certain pages with images, such as graphs and technical figures, as negatives, that is, white text and line art on a black background. Is there any way I can fix this? Any advice would be most appreciated.

I was trying to scan from a Lexmark X5250 into Preview so that I could fax a signed document to a company.
When I chose "To be faxed", with Preview TIFF program under 10.4.6 (combo) (PPC), the document appeares in Preview as a white-on-black (negative) in Preview's open window.
A work-around seems to be that one selects "To be printed", then prints from Preview, then selects (in the lower-left corner drop-down-menu) "Fax PDF". (Unfortunately, the modem still won't hang-up properly -- is this because of my ADSL filter on the fax phone-line? ).

  • HT5858 I have had difficulty launching sites from within my email messages.  So, in trying to revert to the default settings on my iPad I went into "Settings" and reset everything.  Now, I have a black screen with a white apple and a white line!  What do

For the last severl weeks I have had difficulty launching sites from within my email messages.  Thinking that I may have gone into "Settings" and set something wrong, I decided to reset to the default settings.  So, in "Settings" I chose reset everything.  Now, when I turn my iPad on all I get is a black screen with the picture of a white apple and a white line below it.  Nothing else works.  What can I do?  Do I need to send this back to Apple to be restored?

You will hopefully be able to restore it yourself. It sounds like you erased all constant and settings rather than resetting all settings. But I'm basing my theory on the fact that you are seeing the Apple logo with the white progress bar (the white line) on the screen. That's what you would see if the software was being reinstalled and then it stopped on you. If that is what happened, you need to restore again and most likely need to use recovery mode.
You can read about recovery mode here.
    Recovery mode - Apple
However ...... If you are seeing the white line when you turn the iPad, let it go for twenty minutes or so, before you try restoring again. There is possibility that the software is still be installed and it can take a while before you see that white line move at all indicating that progress is being made.
Frankly, I don't think that the software is still being installed, but since you didn't say specifically how long the iPad has been like this, it could just be that the software hasn't finished installing yet. If you know better - meaning that it's been like this for hours or longer, then you do need to restore the device.
