"This window only" as default?

Does anybody know of a way to change the Finder's View Options so that "This window only" is marked by default?
Is there, maybe, a plist which i could edit?
(Reason: most of the time, i invoke "show view options" just to set the icon size in the finder window -- but i want to set it always only for the current window.)
All kinds of suggestions will be appreciated.
Regards,
Gabriel.

I wish! This is one of the most perpetually annoying default behaviors of the Finder. I suspect that it is hard coded into the Finder itself rather controlled by some easily hacked plist. When you bring up the View Options for a window, and then change things, the changes are written to the .DS_Store file for that folder. So I'm guessing the process, from the initial options dialog window to the writing of the .DS_Store file, is in fact a part of the Finder's code. But I would be delighted if I'm wrong about this and there is something that can be done, other than sending Apple a plea for a changed default behavior at Feedback.

  • Anyone?... Set View Options Default to 'This window only'

I came across this discussion (below) that I could not find a solution for. Why does the View Options window always default to 'All Windows'? Usually when you are changing a window setting, you are doing it for that window. Obviously you should not have to change the All Windows settings that often right?
There has got to be some plist settings (which I could not find) that will automatically set the View Options to 'This Window Only' rather than 'All Windows'.

Subject: Change Show View Options Default to 'This window only' ??
Message: I find it very annoying that the finder's default in show view options goes to 'All Windows' rather than 'This Window Only' -- i end up constantly chaning the appearance of folders, much to my chagrin. Is there any way to have the default be on 'This window only" ??

Yes, I too find the default maddening and know of no way to change it. AFAIK the behavior is hard coded into the Finder. I would be delighted if that were not the case... You can always send Feedback on the issue:

Of course, considering the number of Finder problems I doubt anything much will come of it, but you never know.

  • Change the Show View Options' "All windows" default to "This window only"?

By default, all Show View Options panes are set to "All windows". Is it possible to change the default to "This window only"?
I regularly change icon sizes for various folders, but never for all windows. So every time that I use the Show View Options pane, it's an annoying "click This window only" process.

The default is for any window you have not previously opened and set to have All Windows as the default, for List and Icon Views. Once you click This Window Only and make your settings, then every time you open that particular folder it should remain at the This Window setting.
I find the default of All Windows really really annoying, but I am aware of no way to change this. Send Feedback to Apple:

It should be a user settable global preference, but it isn't.

  • "This window only" option missing from Show View Options

    Hi,
When trying to create a background image for a disk image for distribution, the radio button for "This window only" is missing. I read instructions on the web on how to set the background image, make the file invisible in the Terminal. It will work on the 10.6 system that created it, but will not show on another computer. (Mac OS does not matter)
I eventually had to do this on an old system with Tiger 10.4 . There when looking at View Options, the radio button is there labeled 'This window only' . I created the disk image and voila' it will keep the background image for any other computer.
So my question is - Is there a keyboard combination to set this? This option is missing in 10.5 and 10.6 . This is really frustrating.
    TIA

I'm experiencing the same problem. However, I don't think it's defaulting to an arbitrary colour. Rather, it seems to be defaulting to the exact opposite colour (than whatever colour was selected) in the spectrum.
For example, if I set the background colour of a folder to red, it instead defaults to green (and vice versa). This is consistent for all opposing colours.
I hadn't clued into Crayons being different — thanks!

  • No More "This Window Only"?

I took GREAT pain to make sure all my photo folders show up in +Icon View+ only with the largest icon possible. Getting to that folder is all +List View+. After upgrading to Leopard, all that is lost. It will always default to the view I have upon navigating to that folder... ie +List View+. Why did Apple do this bone move?
Am I missing where to set a "This Window Only" view? If so, how do I accomplish this?

The view options have changed and it does at first appear that you cannot set the individual folder view. However, I discovered that you can set the individual folders (This Window only - as it used to be called). Open your folder and set to your preferred view option, then in View Options (Apple j) check the always open in (x) view at the top.
However, there does appear to be a quirk with this. If the View Options window is open and you change the view, the check box does not always update to reflect this, until you uncheck it. I think this is supposed to be a usuability trick, but it has caught me out by being overly clever and complicated
I do agree however, that the lack of a global control is an astonishing oversight. This has been a standard feature for years (and through Mac OS 8/9, if not System 7 too from memory). Adjusting all the individual folder views individually is too mind numbing to contemplate.
I have looked everywhere to see if this global view is somewhere else. In fact, I refuse to believe it is missing, it is far too important to have been left out of the OS, isn't it? Apple??

  • View Options - How to Choose "This Window Only"

I want to have different view settings for different windows, but I can't find a way to do so. I have read online, and several people mentions some checkbox or radio button allowing you to choose "All Windows" or "This Window Only". I don't have either of those buttons. How do I set view options for just one window?

Open a Finder window, in the Finder menu bar select the View option, then at the bottom of the menu select "Show View Options" and, at the very top of the Options window you'll see the radio button to click to "Always open in..." (with the ... being whatever view you have the window in).

The company I work for use AVI videos for Nuendo and I have recently installed my Adobe CC to test efficiency in creating video files for our clients. making QT is a piece of cake but cannot seem to find an option to create AVI anywhere. Hi. NOT CALL ME FOR I AM DEAF BETTER U WRITE ONLY EMAIL.
When I run the app ALLMYMUSIC FROM WONDERSHARE after installing I get this window up.
When I log in with my Apple ID I just get:
The Apple ID you entered couldn't be found or your password was incorrect. Please try again.
I have however made sure that this is the correct Apple ID and password that I am putting in. In the Mac App Store it works.
    Do you have any solution?
    I am running Mavericks 10.9.2.

I am not certain, but I believe there is a version of Dazzle for the Mac. However, it is not the route I would chose.
You really need a proper analogue to digital converter, like the ADVC110, to connect to your camera via the usual RCA cables, and to your Mac via firewire.

  • Late 2013 15" rMBP Can not DL Windows drivers. Get this pop-up "This Mac only supports Windows 7. Do you want to continue?"

Whenver I try to DL the Windows drivers from Bootcamp Assistant, I get a pop up that says "This Mac only supports Windows 7. Do you want to continue?".  I click continue, but the download always fails stating "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server." and the utility shuts down.  This has happened for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 iso's.
I've chatted with support online and they basically led me through the steps of resetting the SMC and PRAM, but this has not worked.
The odd thing is, Bootcamp assistant was able to download the drivers successfully the first couple of times, only to fail during the installation of Windows, with the infamous "Can not load boot configuration" error.  Ever since those first couple of times, I am unable to succesfully download the drivers.
    Frustrating...any ideas?

The first time I installed windows 7, I had no issues what so ever. Then I decided to installed windows 8.1. So I went ahead removed the windows 7 partition via BootCamp. When I tired to install windows 8.1, I ran into the exact same issue. I went ahead and tired to reinstall windows 7 and the issue persisted.
Would be nice to find a solution for this problem.

  • Bootcamp on Mid-2012 MPB 15": This Mac only supports Windows 7

Hoping someone can help. I have a Mid-2012 MPB 15" (A1286). Bought it direct from Apple with a few extra add-ons (fastest CPU, 7200RPM 750GB drive, HD screen... not Retina).
Being an architect and developer I need to run Windows in Bootcamp from time to time. I have been having some issues running Windows 8 and recently saw that the latest Bootcamp should support it.
I have all patches applied yet when I run Bootcamp Assistant and get to the point of it starting I get a pop-up that states "This Mac only supports Windows 7." Then it asks if I want to continue. I have checked the support machines and mine is pretty much the latest MPB non-Retina model. What is going on?
I have 10.8.3 and I checked the Bootcamp Assistant version is 5.0.2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to make sure this goes well.
I have used Parallels but sometimes I really need to go native for tasks for performance.
    Thank you so much,
    Vince

    Shootist007,
Thanks... That's what I did (well not actually... I just ignored the warning...)... I posted this in response to someone else's thread but thought I would mention here:
I was able to get it working as far as I can tell. I just ignored the only Win 7 supported message and continued. Then I downloaded the latest BootCamp ZIP file from Apple and put it on a USB drive. I got through the Win 8 Pro install just fine. I then ran the BootCamp setup.exe from the USB drive and it did its thing.
That seemed to work OK except my machine was HOT. I mean REALLY hot. I found some others that said to install the actual Windows drivers for the Nvidia 650M so I did that. Machine cooled down a lot but the screen was SO dim. I couldn't use it well. It would be fine on the login screen and then after loging in DIM. I could use the Apple brightness keys (1, 2) just fine but it was set at 100% brightness (even though so dim) so no good. I poked around in Win 8 a bit and turned off the setting that has Windows choose your brightness for you. Now it works great!
Machine still gets warmer than when in OSX but livable I think.
Next step was to try and use Parallels to let me access the BootCamp partition from inside OSX. No go. During the process in Parallels 8 you get a warning that the OS isn't supported and it may screw up your licensing. Oh well. One step at a time.
