Thnkpad T61 w port replicator - Video won't extend to external monitor

Okay, I pressed what I thought was a ctrl-alt-del combo on my laptop and but obviously it wasn't as now my video, while fine on the laptop, will not extend to the replicator's attached video. I've restarted the machine, cold started it, unplugged from the replicator, hit the Fn+F7 keys, but nothing seems to allow my video back. In the display settings (Vista), I extend all day and nothing shows on the monitor. Out of ideas, and hoping someone can help. THanks.

I fixed the system.
However, I still don't know the root cause of the original problem.
The missing piece of the fix was doing an uninstall of the video device drivers using the Control Panel 'Add or Remove Programs' function. Prior to that I was just updating things using either the package's native installers or the Device Manager Update Driver function.
After the uninstall I did a clean install of the MSI drivers off a CD and now have selectable digital and/or analog displays in Windows XP. Also, the nvidia drivers DO work, provided they are installed on a 'clean' suystem (thanks, Stu). Installing either driver set as an update results in unstable output - sometimes digital, sometimes analog.
Moral of the story: clean up toothpaste before squeezing the tube again.

New iMac won't recognize my external monitor.

I just upgraded my workplace computer to a late-2012 iMac (with the thin edges) from the previous older model.
I have an external monitor that I use as a secondary screen - a Samsung SyncMaster BX2440 - that worked great on my older machine using the DVI adapter.
When I plug the same adapter into my newer machine, it won't recongize the external monitor.
I tried resetting the PRAM, but no dice.
Is this a Thunderbolt issue, and if so, how easy is it to resolve? Do I just need to get a newer DVI adapter?

Loner: I looked at that and it only shows the main iMac display. Doesn't show the other device.
The model I'm using is a Thunderbolt machine (has the lightning bolt arrow icon). The previous machine was a DisplayPort model.
The adapter is the Apple-issued DVI adapter, but I'm guessing that even though TB and DP use the same physical plug interface, the adapters are not compatible?
(The adapter has the standard monitor icons on it - box with vertical lines on either side).

By the way, I have tried shutting of the display switching in the power settings. That was basically the only real answer I found anywhere. It didn't work.

Lol, figured out the first part. Just for those who may be searching, when you click on the Display Preferences, and click on the arraingment tab... it not only shows where your two screens will be displayed, but the WHITE BAR at the top of one screen is the dock/toolbar. Click and hold to grab this and just slide it over to the screen you'd like it to be on.
You have to release it IN the screen box, not on top of it... and it should pop right over to the new (or old) screen. At any rate, you can put the dock on either (or any) screen that you prefer.
I am thinking of ordering more of these. Lol. 3 monitor setup seems like it would be crazy good.
Still looking for the answer to keeping the new 16" screen on the right without switching between screen #s with that... not expose... Lion feature.

T61 and port replicator with 2 monitors

I have a T61, 6460-66U, connected to a port replicator. My laptop stays closed and out of sight. I have a Y connector going from the analog video port to each of the LCD monitors. The displays work, but they are clones of each other. I want one to be the main monitor and the other to be the extended desktop. The video card in this T61 is a Nvidia Quadtro NVS 140M. Please help!

I'm not sure it will work with a Y connector. I've never tried it so you are more than welcome to prove me wrong
What will work is attaching one screen to the VGA and the other to the DVI on the Mini-Dock. You can then create a profile in Presentation Director where you must disable the ThinkPad screen in order for it to work. I decribed it in this thread, but unfortunately the member never came back to say it worked for them, I must presume yes.

HP 2005pr USB 2.0 Port Replicator - Video not with my Surface Pro 3

Hi everyone,
I've spent tons of hours already trying to get the HP 2005pr USB 2.0 Port Replicator working with my Surface Pro 3 and no luck. I mean, the USB replication / hub works, meaning that if I plug in a USB mouse / keyboard, they work. It recognizes the device in Device Manager and the ViewSpan application is running. But if I plug in a display in the VGA, nothing happens, no monitor gets detected, and even if I "force-detect" one it still doesn't display anything.
I've tried with 3 driver versions so far:
0.2.5 - not working at all. Reboots my Surface while installing. (this one is on the device itself).
3.X - which is the first with support for Windows 8 I think. I can install it and everything works as described above - meaning no VGA.
5.3.X - same story as above.
I've tried uninstalling, restarting and uninstalling several times with both versions. No luck. And I've literally been on every forum where people have problems with the replicator and nothing helped.
Anyone had any luck getting such a setup to work?
Or any ideas on how to get it to work?

I see that you are having problem connecting an external monitor to your Microsoft Surface Pro 3 through the HP USB Port Replicator. As the USB ports are working with the mouse and keyboard we know what the Port Replicator itself is working this is going to be something with the drivers on the Surface. I would recommend contacting Microsoft Support to see if they can recommend a graphics driver for you.

Surface Pro 3 Display/Video/Graphics Driver Issues - DisplayPort, External Monitors, Windows 10 Build 9926

Surface Pro 3 - i5 with Intel HD Graphics 4400
Windows 10 build 9926
All Latest updates installed
Intel Graphics Driver 10.18.15.4079.
Latest system update released on Jan 22nd (which I understand is just the latest intel graphics driver?).
The display driver status has this error message: Windows has stopped this device because it
has reported problems. (Code 43) - I assume it's
reverting to the basic Microsoft driver when this occurs. Which explains why my displayport (External monitors) will not work.
I have uninstalled the driver completely (and deleted the driver files), tried the Windows basic driver,
and rebooted several times with no luck.
I cannot get my docking station displayport or the displayporton my surface pro 3 working.
According to Microsoft (see below), this is a known issue UNTIL you update to display driver
version 4079 - which I have.
Known issues on Surface after updating to Windows 10 January Technical Preview
On Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3, the Mini DisplayPort won’t work on the Windows 10 January Technical Preview until you’ve installed graphics driver 4079 or later. Check Windows Update often for the most recent graphics driver.
On Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3, you’ll notice poor graphics rendering on the Windows 10 January Technical Preview until you’ve installed graphics driver 4079 or newer from Windows Update. Check Windows Update often for the most recent graphics driver.
If you’re using video driver 3496, you may need to start in safe mode and remove that driver. Then restart Surface in normal mode and go to Windows Update to get the most recent graphics driver.

Audio & video via HDMI to an external monitor with lid closed.

I would like to run a Macbook Pro Retina (2014) with the lid closed and all video and audio via HDMI routed to an external monitor (Samsung Syncmaster from 2010). Is this possible? When I try this, no sound is transferred to the external monitor and I cannot operate the Macbook Pro with the lid closed. As soon as I close the lid, it cuts the signal to the external screen.
I’ve tried looking for previous posts but they’re about MCP’s connecting via Thunderbolt or DVI. Any ideas?

Seems like there may be two separate questions here. Audio working in either configuration and video from HDMI when lid closed. First, you are doing this with the Mac running off of AC, not battery, right?

Is the HCMI cable you are using able to carry the audio? Some cables don't.
The only way I've ever used external displays with lid closed is with the thunder port (or DVI) adapter, not with the HDMI. I see the specs from Apple:
HDMI video output
Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz
Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz
Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz
So have you tried varying the screen res to determine the results? I can find no specs regarding what ports remain operational in clamshell. Like you, I would have assumed all of them.
I suspect only the thunderbolt port would support your desired config -- try a thunderbolt/hdmi adapter.
Finally, clamshell mode doesn't allow the MBP to cool efficiently. Heat kills electronics, so if it's too warm or the fans really kick in, you might want to reconsider this setup.

Is the 3.5mm-to-optical cable any better than using a standard 3.5mm? I don't know too much about this stuff. My thought process was that if the source of the connection is a 3.5mm jack, does it make a difference using a cable that starts as a 3.5 and converts to optical?
Chances are excellent that if your receiver is less than 20 years old it has an optical input, this is a digital signal which will sound MUCH MUCH better than using an analog 3.5MM to 3.5MM connection. I recommend using the cable suggested or one with the same connections but of a different length if your needs warrant it.

Yosemite Won't Shutdown With External Monitor Connected

I have a MBP 2010 and I've updated Yosemite from Mavericks. Now I'm running the latest 10.10.2.
Ever since I updated to Yosemite, I have had this problem of my computer won't shutdown when an External monitor is connected. This happens only when I put my computer to sleep.However, if I restart the computer and after logged in to the user and tried to shutdown, it shutdown without any problem. Every time I shutdown it just hangs and I had to force shutdown by press and hold the power button. Which I'm sure is not a proper way.
Right now only my external monitor connected to my MBP. So I did unplugged the ext. monitor and tried shutdown and it works fine. But it think this is the temporary solution that I've found but it is annoying to unplug everytime I wanted to shutdown and plug it back in once the computer is up and running. Which is not idle solution at all.
Am I the only one or a lot of people facing this issue? If there is a solution please share. Very much appreciated. Thanks.

Updated to 10.10.3 and the problem still persist. Still unable to shutdown or restart after wake up from sleep.
Any one affected? Is it something to do with Gfx card?

W520 won't boot to external monitor

Hello, I have a W520 with a 4338-30 docking station. I have an external monitor plugged into the DVI on the docking station and when the laptop is docked, it does not boot to the external monitor. I have to open the laptop to log in. Once the laptop is all the way booted into windows 7, I can then view the screen on the external monitor (albeit with a lower resolution). It worked fine when I had XP.
I did go into the BIOS to change it to the external port (DVI) however, only the Thinkpad LCD is available as an option. I did update the BIOS to 1.37 to see if that would fix it, but that did not work.
Anyone have any suggestion?

I think you also need to turn Optimus off or there is another setting, can't recall specifically. You need to select the external device. Otherwise for what you have set seems correct it not showing the other display until you are nearly completely booted into Win 7. I am not using a dock and my external display is via the displayport connection and booting using an external display works least on my system.

If external monitor is placed above laptop screen, dock won't appear on external monitor

I've just migrated from PC to Mac and I've found something that drives me crazy. The dock won't appear on my external monitor if the external monitor is placed directly above the MacBook Air built in display. At home. I plug in my external monitor into my MacBook Air, place my laptop on my physical desktop just below my elevated external monitor. My MacBook Air is open and I use its keyboard and its display, but my main display is my external monitor. I configured displays to match the physical arrangement:
Darn: the DOCK REFUSES to appear on the "main screen"!! This drives me crazy -- this did not happen in Windows! The task bar obeyed my "main display" setting.
I can get the dock to appear on the main screen if I tell Mavericks of an arrangement that suits Mavericks -- somewhat side-by-side, as follows:
Now the dock shows up on my external monitor which I'd identified as my main screen before all these shenanigans.
The problem with the workaround is that the mouse does not track correctly between monitors so it's not an acceptable workaround.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to work around this for real?

Try booting your laptop normally, and then plug in the external monitor when the computer has fully logged in (or when it's waiting at the login screen). Does the problem still happen when you do that?

Video not in sync on external monitor

Hi-
I have Final Cut Pro 4, with the computer hooked to a DVCAM deck via firewire. The deck is hooked up to an external Sony NTSC monitor via BNC cables. When logging and capturing, I can see the video on the external monitor and it looks fine. However, when I playback video from the timeline, the video on the external monitor is out of sync- it looks like there are rainbow colored bars moving across the screen from left to right, and the picture is all swirly (not a great technical description I know). I checked the suggested settings in FCP and they seem ok, except that I could not find the option to View- Refresh A/V Devices in the menu list. If anyone has any ideas on what I should be looking for, don't know if it's the deck or the monotor or FCP, I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!!

Well... your sync issue is likely that you do not have powered external speakers and some sort of mixer attached to the dvcam deck.
The other stuff? Dunno.
