Tho I select a song to play, it won't play (true for most of my iPodsongs )
With my iPod Nano 5th gen, though I select a song to play, it gives me only a brief glimpse of the CD cover then the list of songs returns, it refuses to play the selected song, in fact most of my many songs, including iTunes purchased songs (except for the last two I purchased).
What is the problem here, is it software, and what is the fix? I tried 4 of the 5 R's, not quite ready to do a full "Restore" yet. Can anyone help me?
Also, though I have 9 GB of audio on my 16 GB Nano, and another 1 GB of Videos, yet it says I also have 11.6 GB of Free Space; Why does the Nano do this, and what is the fix?
Using latest iTunes in MS Vista; my iPod software version is up-to-date.

Games & the other items that come pre-installed take up space.

Try resetting your iPod. Directions for doing so are in the iPod Nano 5th Gen. User Manual (direct PDF download)

How do I select a song to play manually?
This is probably a stupid question because after browsing all discussion entries I can't find anything like the problem I am having: when we open iTunes and select a song to play, we cannot manually change to another song, when we try to double-click or press space on a different song it goes back to the one it was playing. It plays in order. If I want to change, I have to exit iTunes and come back in, choose another song, then the same thing happens. It is driving us crazy. Can you help?
Hmm, that's a new one, but see if stopping the first song before double-clicking the second one helps.

Select a song to play next (after current song)
I love iTunes, but for me it's just missing one thing....
I can't (at least I don't know how) select a certain song from my playlist to play AFTER the current song is finished... If it would have that function, or a way to do this, it would be ALL I need for a music player.
Is there a way in iTunes to select the song to play next?
And/or arrange your playlist in the way (the order of songs) you want?
Message was edited by: AppleOD*Is there a way in iTunes to select the song to play next?*
iTunes doesn't have the "queuing" option you describe (except within the Party shuffle function which queues songs and within which you can drag songs into order). If you'd like to see an option like this in some futer version of iTunes you can send feedback/feature requests directly to Apple at this link: Apple Product Feedback
*And/or arrange your playlist in the way (the order of songs) you want?*
Open the playlist and click on the number column (extreme left). Click on the song you want to move, hold down the mouse button and drag the song to where you want it to be. Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, either of those can prevent you reordering tracks. -
I have updated my Apple TV to 5.1. Using the Remote app on my IPhone and iPad I can browse the music library on the Apple TV but I cannot select a song to play. Has someone else the same problem?
MatsI think I found the reason. On my iMac that is hosting the music library a song already was playing. This seems to block out me from selecting another song though my Apple TV.

When selecting a song to play from iTunes library, I continually get an error message indicating the original file could not be found. Then asks, would you like to locate it? Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm not even able to play the songs I purchased due to this error message. Any ideas how to remedy this problem?
ThanksIt would help to have more background about your iTunes collection such as if you keep it on an external drive, or if you have moved or renamed anything recently. iTunes is very sensitive to you renaming or moving files or folders involved with your media. iTunes only keeps a reference to where a media file is located and then goes to look for it when you try to play it. If you have changed things since it was added to itunes then it's like me sending you to look for a friend in my addressbook but that friend has moved.
The other possibility is your computer is starting to lose files. Again, the computer uses a reference database to tell it where on the drive to look for a file. If that database gets corrupt then it starts losing files. Use Dsk Utility's first aid to verify your hard drive. -
When selecting a song to play on iPhone the correct song does not play. How do I fix.
When selecting a song to play on iPhone the correct song does not play. How do I fix?
There are users reporting the process being stuck and it might have to do with apple turning on match to other countries today.
Have you tried turning match off and letting it remove all none downloaded songs and then turning match back on to see if it fixes it?
Sometimes turn match off and then back on fixes some things, but not always.
Especially if it is working on your other devices, it has to be with the one your trying to get the song downloaded onto. -

Hi TakesTwo2Tango,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you should definitely be seeing a plus sign after tapping Edit, so I would try a couple relatively easy things (closing the Music app, resetting the iPhone):
iOS: Force an app to close

iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

Whenever I go to preview a song in itunes, the song with play out for about 10 seconds and then stop. Why isn't the song previews working? How can I fix this? I tried updating my itunes and it didn't work. I use windows 7. Thanks!
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

hey my little sister pressed something on my ipod and ever since some o f my songs are playing only for the first few seconds how do i solve this problem
BaconBits is right to ask if the files are protected or not.
DRM files can only be transferred using Windows Media Player, Creative MediaSource or Nano Media Explorer so that the licenses are transferred. Do not try drag'n'drop with Windows Explorer on porotected files. This is explained in the Help file manual on your CD.
Also do not use Audible Manager to transfer music files.

My ipod nano 5th generation will no longer play any of it's loaded songs. It still plays the video that is on it, and the radio works. It is not recognized by itunes and I have gone through all their help steps. Is there some other way to restore it?
If the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost under your warranty.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

IPhone does not work with IPOD Dock to select next song / pause - play
After using the iPhone at the gym, the IPhone quit working using the remote for the Docking station to navigate to next song nor pause / play. Suspect Iphone connector....
Also the iMuffs Headset bluetooth adapter that plugged into the iphone connector quit working. Tested iMuffs bluetooth connector on another iPhone and is still functioning.
any ideas?? clean connector?? short?? service??
Note, the iPhone still syncs with iMac via docking port (USB). So the connector is not totally bad.

Select song, hit play button for music and only get spinning circle
Apple TV does not respond to play music. All my music shows on the screen, but when I hit button to play all I get is the spinning circle. Gave it several minutes to see if it just needed time to load but nothing. Internet connection must be ok because I can play a Netflix selection.
Hello there Shazack,
It sounds like you are trying to play your iTunes purchases on your Apple TV but it never plays. I would start by restarting your device in this manner:
Apple TV: How to restart your Apple TV
Restart your Apple TV by selecting Settings > General > Restart.
If that does not fix the issue, I would sign out of your Apple ID in Settings on your device, then restart one more time and sign back in.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
