Thomson gateway router and airplay

Hi all,
I have recently purchased the B&W Zeppelin Air & while the sound is fantastic (for what it is...audiophile might disagree), I am having issues with it staying connected to the network. While playing a playlists using Airplay it will all of a sudden drop the connect (often mid-song). No error message appears when I'm using my iPhone or iPad but one does appear when using my iMac telling me in essence to power off than on my wireless router. I do this and it reconnects (at least temporarily). I believe this to be a problem starting with my Thomson router (and not my mac or stereo) as I can only use Home Share periodically as well (sometimes it shows up on my iPhone or iPad, other (most) time is doesn't).
I guess my question is, can I change any setting on my router to hopefully solve this problem or is it even a problem with my router? I have read that one needs to make changes to their network when hooking up game systems, do I need to make the same changes?
I'm trying to avoid having to purchase a new router (the Zeppelin Air cost me enough as it is).
Thanks for any help one might be able to provide.
Cheers,
Bill

  • Verizon quantum gateway router and 2 Xbox ones nat type open?

Hello, so Verizon sent me there new router quantum gateway, I have 2 Xbox ones. Upnp is enabled and I have both xbox ones set to static ip. I have one xbox in dmz and the other xbox has all the ports forwarded udp 88, 3074, 53, 500, 3544, 4500, tcp 3074, 53, 80. Both Xbox ones in settings / network show nat type open but in call of duty advanced warfare multiplayer/ xboxlive screen. what ever Xbox one turns on first says nat type open and the other says moderate. Hopefully someone here can help cause I can't find any information anywhere and Verizon technical support has no clue
    Thanks in advanced

Hi you need to do two things
Step 1: You have to program the router with port forwarding rules for your xbox one specifically
See instructions here Network Settings on Xbox One - Xbox Support
Step 2: You have to program the router with port forwarding rules for your CoD AW
see instructions here: ports used for Call of Duty games.
if you're not terribly familiar with port forwarding, then there are some good guides online including some youtube video's.
You might not technically find a whole lot on the quantum gateway router specifically, but its identical programming as compared to the Actiontec REV I router
This site has the specific ports that the xbox wants

  • Can I use Extreme with Time Capsule to extend my gateway router and still use Capsule as "external HD"?

Bought Airport Extreme with Time Capsule version 7.7.2 with 2 Terabytes Feb 2014. It was probably an expensive mistake, but after searching for weeks for a external hard drive, it seemed reasonably priced to just use the capsule as my external hard drive for the price I paid. Spend an hour with Apple Care to get it working-had to use ethernet cord to my iMac OS 10.8.5 processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5. I did not "need" the airport as we have a Winstream SAGEMCOM modem/router (Sagemfast 1704) But, I was desperate and about to lose my old external hard drive with literally had 3 computers worth of information on it. It had already "died" once, but got it back, so once I got the airport/capsule and was told I just paid for an expensive HD, I had no time to take it back to get something else-I had to transfer my info right then. We (Apple Care) could not get it to work as a HD wirelessly. It may be because it was being set up for the first time; I don't know. I was hoping I would get a transcript of all done so I could do it myself if needed later on, but when I looked at my email-they didn't do that. (Don't know if that is normal, I was used to other "techs" sending the email.) So now I really want to try to move my airport and "extend" our wifi as it said on the "box" that you could do...
Our Windstream router had to be placed in the lower level at the bottom of our stairs. The stairway is "open" (no door going down the steps). I want to place the Extreme at the top of the stairs so that we can use some things in our offices or not have Netflix on our TV lose connectivity when we all are on our computers.
I know I need an ethernet cord to connect directly with the modem/router to the Airport Extreme.  I don't know what I will need to do after I connect it as it was so goofy when we set it up the first time (With the app it would disappear and not show up..) But my biggest concern is will I be able to still use the capsule as my hard drive and will I be able to do it wirelessly? (Even with it connected by ethernet, every day I have to re-connect to it before I can click on anything on the hard drive. It never shows up on it's own as my old HD did. That drives me nuts.) I do back up using the Time Capsule feature as well. I appreciate any help.

I am still willing to plug in the ethernet cord to the modem/router and try it IF I was able to get a step by step instructions..
Connecting the Time Capsule (TC) to the existing Winstream by Ethernet would be the basis for a roaming type network. This type of network allows you to basically "roam" with a wireless client and connect to either router. This, in essence, would provide you with an "extended" wireless network. The Apple routers can work with just about any manufacturers' routers in this fashion.
The keys to having a successful roaming network are as follows:
The routers must be interconnected by Ethernet.
Both routers will broadcast their own Wi-Fi network, but MUST use the same Network Name (or SSID), wireless security type (WPA or WPA2), and wireless password.
The TC MUST be reconfigured as a bridge.
Connect a single Ethernet cable between one of the Winstream's LAN ports and the WAN (circle of dots) port on the TC.
    The basic steps are:
    Power-down the Winstream.
Perform a "factory default" reset on the TC. Leave the TC powered-down after the reset has completed.
Connect the TC to the Winstream using an Ethernet cable.
Power-up the Winstream. Wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it to initialize.
Power-up the TC. Wait at least 5 minutes to allow it to initialize. (Note: Since we just reset the TC it will be performing as a wireless router that will be broadcasting an unsecured Wi-Fi network with a Network Name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN)
Connect your computer to the Winstream's Wi-Fi network.
Run the AirPort Utility. select the TC, and then, select Edit.
    Go to the Network tab.
Change the Router Mode option to: Off (Bridge Mode)
    Select the Wireless tab.
Verify that the Network Mode option is set to: Create a wireless network
For Wireless Network Name, enter the Wi-Fi network name used by the Winstream.
For Wireless Security, select the equivalent security type that is used by the Winstream. (Note: Use "WPA/WPA2 Personal" if the Winstream is using WPA/TKIP. Use "WPA2 Personal" is the Winstream is using WPA2/AES.
For Wireless Password, enter the same password used by the Winstream.
Select Update and allow the TC to restart.
As far as your external HD, yes you should still be able to use it as before.

  • Verizon Quantum Gateway Router settings issue related to printing and wifi cameras?

    Hi,
I have a Verizon Quantum Gateway router and I just did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro x64 and am downloading and installing my printer drivers.  I connect the printer to the wifi network, 100% sure it is connected and settings are set to wireless lan.  I've had this printer for a while.  Doing the setup - it cannot find the printer.
Related: I bought a 2 pack of Motorola Focus66 wifi cameras to watch my dogs when I'm gone.  I can connect to the cameras when I'm on my ipad's Verizon Wireless LTE connection, but when I'm at home connected to my same Verizon Fios wifi I cannot view cameras.  Yes - the camera and apps support local and remote connections.
I have turned the firewalls all the way off and this does not fix the problems, so I'm believing it is in the router settings.  Any suggestions?

I had a wifi network running at my house with a PC, Laptop, 5 iphones an iPad, and an XBox all running with no issues..  I got the "Upgrade" of the Gateway router and I can connect those devices to the network but WiFi printing is screwed up and Air Printing the apple devices is totally dead..  cannot see the printer.  The customer support are completely a waste..  they suggested I pay for "Premium Support"  At this point I've invested a solid 10-15 hours trying to get this setup and talking to Verizon and its just a mess.

  • Require to configure CUCM and Gateway router PRI for 200 users

    Hi all,
My current scenario is like this:
We have two CUCM servers(7.1) in reduandancy. One is publisher and other is subscriber. We have a gateway router 2921 with a single PRI card. We have 200 IP Phone users. Currently the problem is we have only 30 telephone lines. So with the help of DID configuration. We assign thirty ports to thirty users. Now these thirty users are able to to make an outbound call and recieve an Inbound call. Now I also want to create a pattern in which we dedicate 10 channaels for other 120 users to make an outbound call. And restrict 50 users to not make an outbound call. So we require such a scenario.
    Total 200 Users:
    1. First 30 users. Able to make an outbound call and also able to recieve an inbound call.
    2.  Next 120 Users. Able to make an outbound call. But not able to recieve an inbound call because of PRI restriction. Because we only have a thirty numbers. Dedicate 10 channels for them.
    3. Last 50 users. Not able to make an outbound call. And also not able to recieve an Inbound call.
So I need a configurations of Gateway router and PRI. And also of CUCM in which we could define such a pattern.
    Regards,
    Ali Raza

    Ali,
The outbound call restrictions can be implemented using the CUCM Calling Search Space configurations.  A basic example to illustrate:
Partition 1:  internal_pt   (only internal patterns)
Partition 2: phones_pt (ip phones on your network)
    Partition 3: pstn_pt (off net patterns/external)
    CSS1: Offnet_css
    internal_pt
    phones_pt
    pstn_pt
    CSS2: Onnet_css
    internal_pt
    phones_pt
You place all patterns that can reach off net in "pstn_pt". Phones that are using CSS2 cannot reach off net.  The above example is leveraging the device CSS for all call routing decisions.Using this approach, you would assign "onnet_css" to phones that can only dial internally. NOTE: I am just using a basic example here and not suggesting you use this PT/CSS config "as is".
There is another approach where you "allow" all patterns on a device and "restrict" on the line. For example:
Partition 1:  internal_pt   (only internal patterns)
Partition 2: phones_pt (ip phones on your network)
    Partition 3: pstn_pt (off net patterns/external)
Partition 4: block-pstn_pt (blocking patterns for pstn)
    CSS1: AllPhones_css
    internal_pt
    phones_pt
    pstn_pt
    CSS2: restrict-pstn_css
    block-pstn_pt
Again, pstn_pt contains all pstn patterns.  The block-pstn_pt would also contain off net patterns. The difference is that in the block-pstn_pt all patterns would have the "Block this pattern" flag enabled. All phones would have a Device Level CSS of AllPhones_css.  Phone lines where you wanted to restrict off net dialing would have a Line Level CSS of restrict-pstn_css.
Just a quick refresher, when a phone LINE goes off hook to dial the CUCM is using the "Line Level CSS" + "Device Level CSS" to make the routing decision.  So, assume Line 1 on Phone A has restrict-pstn_css and the phone Device Level CSS is AllPhones_CSS. The Effective Search Space is:
    1. block-pstn_pt
    2. internal_pt
    3. phones_pt
    4. pstn_pt
So, if we assume that block-pstn_pt contains patterns that override patterns in pstn_pt then you can effectively block off net access to Phone A, Line 1.
Why would this be a good approach?  Well, what if you had a need to restrict Line 1 on Phone A but allow Line 2 on Phone A.  Using line level restrictions is much more flexible. Especially if you have more than 2 options you need to consider.
As far as inbound restrictions. If a phone line doesn't have a DID then you have achieved your objective.
The part I can't answer is reserving 10 specific channels for one group of users. I do not believe this is possible.
    HTH.

    Bill

  • You can bridge the Fios Quantum Gateway Router

Long story short. I could not figure out how to disable SIP on the Fios Gateway Router and some my Intercom Video Door station in use by my Control4 uses SIP. The router was causing conflicts and Control4 advised that SIP needs to be disabled on the router. Disabling SIP is a very common answer to people using IP based video conferencing or VOIP phones. That left me with 2 choices. Get the Fios Quantum Gateway to bridge and install my own router where SIP can be disabled, or get rid of Fios and use an ISP that does not require a combo "modem"/router. I didn't want to give up on Fios so easily. My installation was new and I am happy with the uptime and performance. I spent 2 days trying to get my Fios Quantum Gateway to Bridge.   I am writing this up so that someone else doesn't have to live the pain I've lived.  First up, after multple days of looking, their are limited instructions on getting the Fios Quantum Gateway router to bridge. The instructions you can find are for the Actiontec router. It's "almost" the same router but not 1:1. Most step by step guides say that the steps for the Actiontec will work for a FIos Quantum Gateway. That's not inaccurate, but isn't fully accurate either. Their are steps involved in the Acitontec instructions that do not apply to the Fios Quantum Gateway. First - this link is the baseline instructions I found that mostly work: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27666920-How-to-Make-Actiontec-MI424WR-Revision-I-Rev-I-a-Network All credit to the authors that came before me. I didn't discover these steps. I hijacked them and tested them with some revisions for a Fios Quantum Gateway router. I take not credit or responsbility for any action you take based on my post. It "works for me" and continues to work after 24 hours. My please note that I am using Coax/MoCa from the ONT to the Router and that Ethernet was not an option. I am going to repost the steps verbatim, but add some notes along the way where my experience was different in bold. I highly recommend you read the entire thing one time before starting with the step-by-step. You can replace the word Actiontech with Quantum Gateway in the below. Their are subtle differences in termonligy between the Acitontec and the Quantum. If you see a step in the guide and can not follow because your Quantum doesn't have the same display, you must find the nearest equivelement or ignore it entirelly. First get your Router and Actiontec set up like so: ONT -> Coax -> Actiontec Coax Port -> Actiontec LAN Port 1 -> My Selected Router WAN Port. Unplug the cable from the WAN Port, but keep it nearby. I was actually in LAN Port 1 on the Quantum Gateway but I don't think it will actually matter.
Now we need to obtain the WAN MAC address of each Router device.
For the Actiontec go to: Top Menu – Advanced – MAC Cloning – Set Mac of Device – Broadband (Coax). Here you should see the MAC Address, write this down on a paper or something. This is critical. You need to do this. Without the clone, I was unable to bridge. Note that I did not have to STAY cloned. I just had to clone until the lease expired even though I believe I had released the IP successfully. For your own router: You need to look this up yourself. The ASUS RT-N56U (w/ custom firmware) has a spot that just displays my WAN MAC address for me. I'm using an EdgeRouter from Unfi. Nobody can help you here except the forums for the router you are using because how you do this is different from router to router (generally speaking.)
Once you have both of these pieces of information, it is time to start.
    1. Hardware Reset Actiontec Router I wouldn't do this. I didn't. I would actually save a copy of the configuration you have on the router before going any further, in case you have to hardware reset and restore your router.
    2. Log into Router using [ admin/password ].
    3. Change admin login info and set a different password. There should be a link on the side.
    4. Top Menu – My Network – Side Menu – Network Connections – Network (Home/Office) – Settings – IP Address – Setto 192.168.x.1 where x is not used on your LAN – Apply
*NOTE*: Upon changing the default gateway IP of the Actiontec from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.x.1, you will need to [ ipconfig /release ] and [ ipconfig /renew ] from Command Prompt, so your computer can quickly reconnect to the Actiontec. I changed this to 192.168.0.5 because my DHCP starts at 50. The Fios default is 192.168.0.1 and not .1.1.
    5. Log back in to Actiontec router with new IP and new password you previously set.
    6. Top Menu – Wireless Settings – Side Menu – Basic Security Settings – Wireless Off – Apply 7. Top Menu – Firewall Settings – Side Menu – General – Minimum – Apply
    8. Top Menu – My Network – Side Menu – Network Connections – Advanced 9. Top Menu – My Network – Side Menu – Network Connections – Broadband (Coax) – Settings – Release – Apply
*NOTE*: If your IP address is not released properly you will need to wait 2 hours for your lease to expire or you’ll need to call Verizon Tech and get them to restart your system.
    10. Broadband (Coax) – Settings – IP Distribution – Disable – Apply 11. Broadband (Coax) – Settings – DNS Server – No DNS Server – Apply 12. Broadband (Coax) – Settings – IP Address – No IP Address – Apply
    13. Top Menu – My Network – Side Menu – Network Connections – Network (Home/Office) – Settings – IP Distribution – Disable – Apply 14. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – DNS Server – No DNS Server – Apply 15. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – UNcheck Box to Left of Wireless – Apply
*NOTE*: The old guide will tell you to uncheck the box to the left of “Coax” here. Unfortunately, in the Rev. I, Ethernet and Coax are stuck together as “Ethernet/Coax” and you can’t split the two. If you uncheck the box to the left of “Ethernet/Coax”, you will lose connection with the Actiontec Router and you will be forced to hard reset and start all over again.
    16. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – Check Box to Left of Broadband (Coax) – Apply 17. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – Check STP Box to Right of Broadband(Coax) – Apply The Quantum Gateway didn't have an STP box to uncheck. I ignored this step with no adverse effects. 18. Network (Home/Office) – Settings – Network – Broadband Connection – Apply
    19. Top Menu – Advanced – MAC Cloning – Set Mac of Device – Broadband (Coax) Using the information you gathered at the beginning: a. Set the WAN MAC of your selected Router to the MAC address listed here. b. Set the Address here to the WAN MAC of your selected router that will be connected to the Actiontec to avoid conflicts.
    20. Plug the cable from Actiontec LAN Port 1 to your Routers WAN Port. Your router should be getting a WAN IP from Verizon. Test to make sure your WAN is established and that you can connect onto the internet, browse pages. Run a speed test to make sure everything is peachy.
*NOTE*: If your router did not get a WAN IP, you have a problem. I would recommend trying to re-trace your steps to see if you missed anything or just start all over and hard reset. :\
    21. If everything worked out fine, connect a cable from your Router’s LAN Port 4 to the Actiontec LAN port 4. Again, I was using Port 1. But it shouldn't matter. I haven't tried other ports.
    22. Power cycle your STB if you wish. You should see your STB show up in your DHCP list and it should be getting VOD/Widgets. This wasn't neccessary for me as I don't use Verizion TV service. Your millage may very. -V

NOTE: about bridging the Quantum Gateway G1100 Information about this is in DSLReports.com - Verizon FiOS FAQ.  SEE: Verizon Online FiOS FAQ -> 3.2 Moca -> Can I get an ethernet connection in a room with only coax? There is a list of instructions for bridging routers, but the Verizon Quantum Gateway is not included there. Follow down the instructions and at step 2.5 here is added information that is not in the FAQ yet.
    Instruction 2.5...
2.5a) The Verizon Quantum Gateway G1100 is slightly different from the Actiontec MI424wr. If your primary router's broadband connection is provisioned over coax, you need to disable the remote router's coax WAN connection to prevent it from attempting to become the primary router. If your broadband connection from the ONT to your primary router is ethernet, this step may be unnecessary.
Click on the MY NETWORK icon at the top.
Select NETWORK CONNECTIONS from the menu on the left.
If you’re using the Verizon Quantum Gateway G1100 as the remote router the Network Connections panel will show Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax) instead of Broadband Connection (coax).
    Click on Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax)
The next panel displays Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax) Properties as its title. There is a Disable button at the top of the panel. There is also a Settings button at the bottom of the panel. You will come back to the Disable button.
    Click on the Settings button.
The next panel displays the same title as the prior panel: Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax) Properties
In the middle of the panel next to the heading Enable/Disable Coax Link: there is a button labeled Disable.
    Click on Disable.
Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the panel.
You will be taken to the Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax) Properties panel that you saw before.
At the top of this screen there is a button labeled Disable
    Click on Disable
Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the screen.

  • Samsung WiFi printer can't connect to new Quantum Gateway router?!

We recently replaced our 3-year-old router with the latest Quantum Gateway router and upgraded fios speed from 25/25 to 50/50.
Every device (PC, phones, tablets, and TV) was able to connect to the new network.  BUT, our Samsung Wifi printer (M283x seriers) cannot connect at all.  With the older router, we were able to access the printer thru Wifi network from two different PCs..
We did not relocate the router and we did not move the printer, so singal strength was not the issue.  We even uninstalled and then re-install printer driver to PC to set up the network again.  Tried every connecting option that Samsung had suggested, but everything failed.
We also tried to log in to Router Admin site to add this printer, didn't work.  WPS was turned on and we couldn't figure out why this new network doesn't add the printer. This router did not like our printer.
One funny thing was that if we turned OFF all the security settings, the router allowed this device to connect to WiFi.
Can anyone help?  Thanks a lot!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have a solution for you.  After upgrading to the Quantum Gateway last week, My Samsung 2835 printer had the same problem. It turns out that the printer doesn't play well with the Quantum Gateway when the Samsung "Wi-Fi Direct" function is enabled.  All you have to do is log in to the printer web page. Then, under Settings--> Network Settings--> Wi-Fi Direct... Turn Wi-Fi Direct off using the drop down menu.  Hit "Apply", then power cycle the printer. After this you can use WPS or manually configure the printer and it will connect right away.  Thank the Verizon technical guy J.W.  for figuring this one out by capturing the Wi-Fi traffic between the Gateway and printer.

  • Quantum Gateway Router - Local DNS not working

I just installed the Quantum Gateway Router, and I can't seem to get local DNS (i.e. user defined DNS entries) to work correctly.   I'm able to make user-defined entries under Advanced->DNS Server, but the when I attempt to ping the entries, from any machine on my LAN/WLAN, the entries are not resolved.   Has anyone else run into this problem?
    Thanks in advance!

That is correct.  that would be the address for the dns resolver that is handed out for dhcp connections.
You may want to check that your router is actually getting dns server addresses for use with it's dhcp connection from the wan.
    Log into the router
    select My Network
    Select Network Connections
    select Network (home/office)
Halfway down the page see the dns server line
if it says no dns server then it should default to the dns servers provided the wan connection.
you can override the values here by
selecting the drop down value use the following dns servers
then you can 2 values in the fields that appear - typically opendns or google servers.
To see the dns servers that came with the wan dhcp connection
    select My Network
    Select Network Connections
    Select broadband connection
halfway down the page are the dns values
These can be over ridden too by

  • How to setup ADSL moden router and Airport Express 802.11n (1st Generation) to provide internet and airplay connections to multiple devices?

I have a Netgear wireless ADSL modem router (wireless + four ethernet out ports)  that i'd like to connect to a 1st gen Airport Express to create a small home network to provide internet access for a MacBook, iPhone and Apple TV, and to provide Airplay connection to the Apple TV and Airport Express audio output jack.
I'd like to turn off the wireless function of the ADSL modem router, and to have from one of its ethernet out ports an ethernet cable providing internet directly connected to my MacBooks ethernet port.
Then from one of the other ethernet outs on the ADSL modem router an ethernet cable connected to the Airport Express's ethernet port. This would be to provide wireless internet connection for the Apple TV and iPhone via WiFi from the AE.
At the same time as the MacBook is receviing internet soley via the ethernet in port, i'd like it to have WiFi connection to the AE to provide Airplay connection to the Apple TV and the AE's audio out jack.
Is this all possible? How should I go about to configure this? How should the AE's ethernet port be configured?
Any special modes the ADSL modem router or Airport Express should be in? ie bridge or client?
    Thanks

On the ADSL modem router web-based interface, should I set any security setting? I think not as there'll be no wireless signal coming from it, only wired ethernet connections to both MacBook and AE. Security should only be set on the AE to prevent someone from accessing its WiFi signal. Is this assumption correct?
    These are all correct!
How should I go about setting up security for this network?
First I would recommend that you configure the AirPort Express for WPA2 Personal. This will provide you with the greastest level of security while still providing excellent bandwidth performance.
You would configure wireless security for the Express by using the AirPort Utility on a Mac, PC, or iOS device. Using your MacBook Pro as an example, you would do so as follows:
    Run the AirPort Utility.
Select the Express, and then, click on Edit.
Select the Wireless tab to enable it.
Set the Wireless Security option to: WPA2 Personal
Enter the desired password in both the Wireless Password & Verify Password fields. Note: Use of a "strong" password is encourage here. By strong, I mean use a mix of upper/lowercase letters, numbers, & punctuation marks. Try not to use common dictionary words. If you operate your wireless in an area where security is of an utmost concern, I would further suggest that you change the wireless security password every 60-90 days. Also don't forget to change the default AirPort Base Station Administrator password as well.
Click on Update and allow the Express to restart.

  • Inaccurate Shipping and Handling Charge for New FIOS Quantum Gateway Router

I ordered the new Quantum Gateway Router under the special promotion (reduced price of $99.99. The website specifically said in the ad that "your new router will have a shipping and handling charge of $5.99". When I placed the order the shipping and handling charge was $9.99 ($5.00 more that advertised. Has anyone else had this problem?

I think everyone who has ordered this router has seen this issue.
    Have you tried calling Verizon?
    Good Luck.

  • Router/gateway mode and NAT

In a posting in this site, it was suggested that NAT replaces router/gateway mode as used on the WRT54GS.  I am wondering if that is correct.
    Why?  I have a WRT54GS (firmware v4.71.4, Oct. 31, 2007).
    This works:
I have a class C IP block (full 256 addresses).  I have the WAN side set up with
    xxx.yyy.zzz.129 wan address
    255.255.255.128
    xxx.yyy.zzz.254 (default gateway)
(this forces the WAN side to just use the high 128 addresses - I am only using 129)
then, for the router IP, I have
    xxx.yyy.zzz.15
    255.255.255.0
    and DHCP is
    xxx.yyy.zzz.90 and 20 users
The LAN side uses the low 128 addresses.
This all works.  I have the WRT set up as a Gateway (not Router)
    HOWEVER,
I tried this on an Asus 56U box which has the NAT setting but no router/gateway mode and it won't allow the xxx.yyy.zzz block to be used on both the WAN and LAN sides.   Is the Asus broken or is your answer wrong?
Why was I looking at the Asus?  Someone recommended it to me.  I would be happy to use a Linksys box instead if you can tell me which one would support the router/gateway mode.
My WRT54GS is working fine but I now have a Verizon Net Connect boax that uses VPN and VoIP and am getting a lot of delay.
I was thinkning that a newer box might be faster.
    Thanks!!

I've seen some of the new routers with cisco/linksys that it does have the capability for NAT to be disabled if that is what you are looking for. But I agree with the person above me.
