Thomson Speedtouch USB modem installation

Hi All,
I gave my Mac Mini to my parents and they have an ADSL connection at home. Unfortunately, it's a USB modem, which meant that I had to download drivers for it and try to get it configured.
Here's what I did so far:
1. Downloaded and installed drivers. Link: http://www.speedtouch.co.uk/downloads/330/302/st330OSX_10_4full.zip
2. Connected the modem
OS X 10.4.8 sees the modem and I tried various different types of configurations, but no matter what I do, I get a
Could not negotiate a connection with the remote PPP server. Please verify your settings and try again. error.
Modem lights are green, and it works under Windows 2000 on the laptop I'm using. Any ideas on what the problem may be?
Frankly, I'm a bit surprised. I bought a Mac in order to stop worrying about problems like these and for the past year it's been a really great experience, but now this
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Macs don't work well with usb modems. Get a modem with ethernet. No drivers, nothing to configure, no problems.

  • Speedtouch USB modem not working on MAC OS X(10.4.6) but fine on windows BC

Hi all, i have speedtouch usb, which is almost the equivalent to speedtouch 330. i went on to http://www.thomson-broadband.co.uk/codepages/content3.asp?c=7&ProductID=471 to obtain the driver for mac os 10.4.
however, even after installing the driver, my modem simply cannot register its connection to the mac book. there is only red blinking light from 1 side of the 2 signals on the modem.
when i shifted over to windows xp home ed via bootcamp 1.4, the modem connected fine ( with 2 green lights from the 2 signals on the modem ) after the driver for windows xp was installed.
is there an additional program that i can install to have speedtouch usb compatible with the mac os?

You might want to do a search here on the forums re. usb modems - I've seen several threads and the opinion appears to be that faxing is no longer supported (especially since the "Fax" is now missing from the Print Preference Pane in System Preferences). I am faxing with an all-in-one printer which is connected to a landline, but I have to use the printer's control panel - can't use it from the iMac.

  • USB Modem not being recognised in OSX

Sorry if this is being posted in the wrong forum.
I have an oldish Usb modem (Intel(R) AnyPoint(R) DSL Modem 3240 http://www.intel.com/support/network/dslmodems/sb/CS-009978.htm) that I have been using for a while with my PC laptop.
I have recently updated to a MacBook and was expecting this modem to be fine since it has worked succesfully with a friends older iBook (he simply plugged in the usb cable and was able to connect to the internet once I gave him the Username/Password. No software installation was required) but on my MacBook the modem doesnt seem to be recognised.
I have followed the install instructions to the letter but when it comes to plugging in the usb modem nothing happens and no modem is found (the l.e.d on the front of the modem stays off)
If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. I only need access to broadband very occassionaly and would like to avoid having to buy a new modem. Thanks

Generally usb modems don't work or don't work well on Macs
IMO, that is a bit of a sweeping statement. Most people in the UK use a USB modem, not least because they were supplied free by your ISP.
    Get a modem with ethernet
Better still get a router, which what many UK ISPs now provide free.

  • Nokia 6120 Classic USB Modem is not working proper...

    Hello everybody!
Something strange happened last week with my Nokia 6120 Classic (version: 03.83). I regularly use it as a USB modem and last week's Wednesday it stopped working. What the problem really is due to, is hard for me to say precisely.
Using Windows Vista (Business, x64, SP1) "Connect to" function, I have previously connected to using HSDPA, but after last week the following happens:
Starts with "Dialing" then goes to showing status "Verifying user name and password" for less than a second after which Vista informs that "Failed to connect to..." and the phone shows the 3G symbol with dashed arrows below.
    I've tried the following:
    - reinstalling PC Suite (the latest, greatest version)
    - reinstalling the modem drivers (between Nokia USB modem and 6120 USB modem) using the whole reboot thing
    - using another USB port, which doesn't work since Device Manager reports that the driver can't start properly
    - restarting, cold resetting the phone
    - switching to GSM only
    - testing with another computer running SP1
    - removing modem init commands for the Internet connection
Now, the strange thing with the second computer was that everything worked just fine with it. My computer on the other hand didn't work at all!
I've put the modem communication logs from the working computer here:
    http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=ah8pw9pjrf55_12g38wqpdt
And the modem communication logs from my non-working computer here:
    http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=ah8pw9pjrf55_11hjcq39g4
What was interesting on my computer is the "NO CARRIER" line which makes no sense to me: why on earth is it starting to check for a carrier signal all of the sudden??
Any tips with this here dilemma would be greatly appreciated.
Message Edited by manywhere on 18-Feb-2008 09:47 AM

I tried using a Nokia E90 and connecting to the net using both PC Suite's "Connect to the Internet" and using Windows´ "Connect to" programs. With the E90, I had the same problems: fails at "Verifying user name and password" and the strange looking modem communications log.
What the heck is going on with my Windows installation here? I tried removing the drivers again, repairing PC suite and restarting the computer, but to no avail.

  • Can't use my USB modem "HUAWEI model E156G" on my MACBook Pro

I'm new to MAC (I used to be a windows user) and I'm a little bit frustrated for not being able to use my USB modem "Huawie E156G" for connecting my new MacBook Pro!
    I followed these steps:
Got the USB modem drivers found on Huawei site that should support my USB modem model. there were 2 drivers, one for "Intel" and another one for "PowerPC" platforms
First, I installed the "Intel" version succesfully. According to the steps, I tried to run the installed driver, but I got the following message:
"you cant open the app HuaweiDataCardApp because PowerPC app are no longer supported".
I repeated the installation procedure using the "PowerPC" version that finished succesfully (without removing the previous installed driver because dont know how to do that). I got the same message when running the driver application:
"you cant open the app HuaweiDataCardApp because PowerPC app are no longer supported".
It would be much appreciated if anyone can help me
Note: my MAC OS is MAC OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74), Processor Intel Core I5
    Thanks

  • New Mini won't recognize Apple USB modem

I hate being thick but I can't figure out why my new mini won't recognize the Apple USB modem I just purchased. The network preferences see the built-in Airport card, Bluetooth, Ethernet and Firewire, but I cannot get it to recognize any kind of modem (internal or external).
I figured it might be an uninstalled component (this is the Mini with built-in Airport) and looked through the OS X installation discs, but no. I can't find any drivers on the Apple site for the modem... has anyone had any success with this?
    Many thanks in advance,

Doh! Upgrading the system to 10.4.4 did the trick. I guess the right drivers for the USB modem weren't in the earlier version to be recognized.

  • Macbook cannot detect D-Link DWM-156(A7) USB modem after upgrading to OS X Yosemite ver 10.10

    Hi
My MacBook Pro 13" is unable to detect D-Link DWM-156(A7) USB modem once I open the D-Link Connection Manager app (to connect to the internet) even though the USB is plugged in.
The MacBook is able to detect the USB at first, but once after I open the D-Link Connection Manger, it can no longer detect the USB Modem and a notification which says "No USB Modem Connected" pops up.
This problem only surfaced after I upgraded the Macbook to OS X Yosemite ver 10.10. I tried to solve the problem by restarting the Mac but the same problem still arise.
    What do i do?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards

    I figured it out!
I had the same problem with the dongle sent to me by Telkom South Africa.
Mine was D-Link Model: DWM-157. Here's how I fixed it.
I basically flashed or updated the firmware on the dongle to the latest one I got from the D-Link website.
    1. You need access to a PC (Windows computer).
    2. Go to: http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/product/dwm-157-3g-hspa-plus-usb-adapter
    3. Scroll down and download firmware version 4.5.4.7
    4. Once download is complete, move over to your windows PC. Plug in the D-Link USB dongle.
    5. Run the firmware update on the Windows PC while the USB Dongle is plugged, Follow the prompts, it takes a little while, sometimes it seems like it is stuck but be patient. Once its done it will ask you to press any key to continue.
    6. After the install, pull out the dongle and plug it back in, sometimes the device installation prompt will appear. If so, rerun the device installation again. Wait for all the drivers to install. If not open d-link connection manager on your windows PC and test if it is able to make a connection to the internet. If the test was successful go to #7 below.
    7. Go to your Mac. Uninstall the current D-Link connection manager your have.
    8. Plug the USB Dongle back, the installation prompt will pop up again.
    9. Go through the installation steps and a prompt will pop up asking you to restart, restart your machine.
    10. Run D-Link connection manager and you can now get to the connection screen. Wait a while for network to be found.
    11. Click connect.
    12. Come back here and tell us if this worked for you. It certainly worked for me.

  • Problems with Vodafone/Huawei E220 wireless usb Modem

    Hi there,
My faithful Powerbook is having issues with a company issued Vodafone Vodem (Huawei E220 wireless HSDPA 3G USB modem).
It worked well at first, but then after restarting, waking from sleep or rebooting from off, the Vodem would cease to connect to Vodafone, with the Vodafone Modem Software giving me a cryptic message "No modem or data card attached".
Yesterday, I tried reinstalling and uninstalling the software, and after several installation/uninstallations, it finally reconnected. It has since stopped working again since shutting down the Powerbook overnight. Reinstalling has not yet worked.
I read somewhere on the net that leaving the modem plugged in for a minute before attempting to connect might work - alas no such luck.
Has anyone else out there had problems with their Vodafone/Huawei E220 USB wireless modem, and how did you resolve the problem?
I have tried both the New Zealand 2.07 version, plus the European 2.08 version of the Vodafone connectivity software.
    I am running a Powerbook 15", 1.67ghz, MacOS 10.4.11, 512MB, no other peripherals connected.

No experience, but what happens if you log out then back in?
Does a New User have that problem?

  • USB modem won't work with Panther

My girlfriend has a black G3 powerbook and uses a Speedtouch 330 USB modem successfully on OS9. However I have also installed Panther 10.3.9 and installed the Speedtouch Panther driver update from their site but when I open the Network preferences panel Speedtouch USB does not come up as an option.
If I go to the list of modems it is there but if I select it it still doesn't work.
In the past I have used a USB modem with my G4 and Panther and after installing the driver it immediately appeared as a new connection option called Speedtouch USB and it worked fine.
I have tried reinstalling the driver several times. I have spoken to Apple and I have spoken to Speedtouch with no result.
I can only assume that it is something to do with the black G3 compatibility.
I have done a test with her powerbook in Panther and plugged in my ethernet router and it works fine.
But these routers are quite expensive and it bugs me... why won't Panther recognise the USB driver?
    Any suggestions please ?
    thanks

My westell modem is very flakey and will often reset its connection from PPOE to bridge all by itself. From what I read on the web, setting the westell to bridge is the way to go since it allows the router to actually route. But, for me it only works when sent to PPOE. That means that the westell is both a modem and DNS/NAT router so I disabled those capabilities in airport. The verizon dslstart.verizon.com has some help on how to do this. search on westell 6100.

  • Unable to recognize USB modem

    Dear Friends,
I have upgraded to Lion 10.7 and I face this issue:
My MacBook Pro unable to recognize my USB modem. It says "USB modem disconnected or unavailabe"
I have uninstalled and installed the USB modem but it shows the same error.
What could be the problem? All softwares are up to date.
    Any help appreciated

    Thanks dobwalls,
I solved my problem with BANYM's BLOG.
    ( http://www.banym.de/mac/huawei-umts-usb-stick-with-snow-leopard ) Its awsome
    I used dashboard installer located on ( http://www.huaweidevice.com/resource/mini/200910149695/testmobile1014/index.html ?directoryId=3874&treeId=0 )
Here are the steps I made to solve this problem:
    1) connected my USB stick to my Mac Book Pro.
    2) Downloaded the first package on http://www.banym.de/mac/huawei-umts-usb-stick-with-snow-leopard
    3) Used the dashboard to find the installation package located in resouarces folder of USB stick.
    4) completed the installation successfully
    Then it works
Thank you for your answers here, it was a big help to find this solution

  • Airport Extreme can't connect to USB modem

I have recently bought an Airport Extreme Base Station. However, I now realise that I cannot set it up with my present ADSL Modem - which is a Speedtouch USB - owing to the modem only being able to connect to my Mac via a USB cable and I therefore can't connect it to the Airport's Ethernet WAN port.
Is there any way round this? My ISP is Orange, and they have been extremely unhelpful when I've contacted them in the past with Mac-related problems. I know I could change ISP but this seems a lot of hassle that I could do without; my broadband connection has always been fine hence I have no issue with Orange on that front.
Is there anything I can do to connect the existing USB modem to the Airport?
    Thanks.

You might want to take a look at something like this Broadband Adapter.
I haven't used this device, so can't advise on whether it will work satisfactorily or not for you, but did notice that it claims to be compatible with Orange services.

  • Huawei e17 USB modem

    Hi,
I have one annoying trouble with my huawei e17 USB modem (connected to MacBook Pro):
    • Internet connection works fine when I log in but once I log out and my wife log's in the internet connection just hangs...tries to connect but hangs. Only solution what I have found for this is to remove huawei e17 USB modem and put it back again.

    Hi Defcom,
    Thanks for the info.
It was my understanding that the E220 USB Modem automatically installs the correct mac software.
System requirements listed on the box, Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Mac OS X
I'm expecting delivery of the iMac middle of next week, so I'll soon find out!
Meanwhile, I'm now getting maximum signal stength on all my Mobile Phones and the USB Modem.
