Thoroughly Disgusted Long Time Loser with Adobe Premiere

Adobe has FAILED! I have been up and down with Premiere.  I've been thrown around and with every twist and turn stuck with the hope that Adobe would eventually get it right.  For every improvement there is an equal failure. and an expensive upgrade needed to fix it. Trade an emprovement for a train wreck. When will management learn that users mattter.  Marketing sells the latest and greatest.  I lived with the reality that over 10 years Premiere is still unstable.  It works on one system and another crashes and burns. As BT Barnum so eloquently stated "there's a sucker born every day."  Right now , I've been through to many years of convoluted Adobe updates expensive upgrades and FAILURES that I've become the SUCKER. (Sucker, a bottom feeding fish found in the Midwest waterways)
There is an absolute need to find configurations that WORK! Then support them.  The BS system of trial and error and expecting user to become Adobe Ginny Pigs must end NOW!

Thanks to Matrox tech support, I have a smooth running HD workflow.
The problems with my laptop could have been avoided if Adobe had a clean upgrade path.  I was upgrading software from Procuction Premium CS4, 32bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7 and CS5.5.  I discussed this upgrade with Adobe and Matrox, I have the MX02.  The MX02 did not have the CS5.5 drivers ready untill a few months after CS5.5 was released.  I wanted to know if I should wait for the CS5.5 Matrox drivers to upgrade.  Both Adobe and Matrox said It would be possible to use CS4 on Windows 7 OS to be compatiple with the MX02 CS4 drivers then load CS5.5 when the drivers were released.
What they did not say that this would cause many problems.  They also did not say that uninstlling CS4 completly is NOT possible using the Adobe cleaner tool.  After using the cleaner tool I was able to open CS4 programs and repeted unistall attempts did not work, Adobe tech support emailed a list of files to manually delete then reinstall CS5.5. I little better. The CS4 programs were gone but BSOD and system freezes were regularly accuring.  It appears there may have been several complication caused by the CS4 never being completely removed despite using the cleaner tools and manual removal recommended by Adobe's tech support. Matrox tech support took the time to look at all the settings and cleared out unwanted files. The BSOD and Premiere freezing finally stopped.
This portable workflow is capable of live HD Capture of Matrox 1080p MPEG2 over SDI with live ouput from the MX02 to a HDMI monitor. The video is pristine and can be captured on a single external 1394a drive. It is better than the excellent quality using the 1080p MPEG4 to the memory cards route.
The laptop has an SD card slot so I can view the clips captured on the EX1 in the Sony Clip Browser. The Sony browser has a fast workflow for reviewing, labeling and copying to a mirrored 2 drive raid for safe keeping and transport to the edit suite. Importing clips into Premiere they can be seen on a HDMI monitor. Rough cuts can be created and transcoded faster than realtime to h.264 for distibution with the MX02 with MAX.
That's as much as I need on a shoot but having SDI compatiple with OnLocation would help.

  • XDCAM HD workflow with Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Macbook Pro

    Hi folks,
I have an assignment for a TV production to secure and convert the data (mxf files XDCAM HD 422 1080i 50 / 50 Mbit/sec with 8 audio channels) from Sony XDCAM camcorders (PDW-700) for postproduction.
The producer wants me to convert the mxf files during production to Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) for faster and smooth editing during postproduction.
I'm not sure about the final output yet, but I guess it will be either 720p50 or 1080i 25, since the production will be broadcast and as far as I know this is the standard for HD on German television. It is also not clear which NLE will be used for editing (usually one of the producers edits their projects with FCP, but this time they've got their hands full and are still looking for someone to outsource postproduction.
Unfortunately, my Macbook is getting fixed as we speak, so I can't try things out.
Since this is the first time I'm doing this workflow, could someone please check if I got everything right?
    1. Can someone please confirm that I can actually convert the mxf files using AME CC to Apple ProRes 422?
Or do I need to install any other tools/converters for this task? Does MPEG streamclip do the job? Any other freeware?
    2. When converting to Apple ProRes422, the producer suggested to deinterlace the footage (1080i 50) to 25p, if 720p or 1080p I have to find out tomorrow since our conversation got interrupted this afternoon.
In my opinion this doesn't make sense, though. First, if output to 1080i 25 it has to stay interlaced anyway. Second, in case the output will be 720p 50 I would edit the footage either natively or in Apple ProRes 422, but leave deinterlacing until the very end when outputting to the final format. This way I could use an advanced deinterlacer, e.g. the one from Magic Bullet Suite, rather than just checking some deinterlace box in the export settings for Apple ProRes 422.
The reason the producer suggested to deinterlace right away when using  an intermediate like ProRes was that she and the client got irritated by the jagged lines from the interlaced footage when editing the last project with the same requirements on a progressive display.
    3. What would be the best solution to tackle this issue (jagged lines) during editing?
As I said my Mac is getting fixed, so I have no way of trying things out,and I usually edit DSLR footage which is progressive anyway.
But if I remember correctly I can switch my monitor between 1080p and 1080i. This should do the trick, shouldn't it?
    4. Can I keep all of the 8 audio tracks when converting to ProRes using AME CC ?
    5. Is ProRes422 (HQ) really necessary, or is the regular quality sufficient for this kind of job?
    6. Let's assume the whole project would be edited within Adobe Premiere Pro CC and  system specs as stated below:
Since Adobe Premiere Pro CC has native support for  XDCAM HD is there any advantage of using an intermediate like ProRes at all?
How smooth is native editing with XDCAM HD in Premiere Pro CC? I don't think there will be more than 3-4 video tracks in use...
    Thanks for your help!

Thanks Jim! I knew there must be a reason xdcam is widely uses for eng aquistion :) I think they used FCP 6 or 7 on their last project... So what about monitoring interlaced footage on a progressive screen? Any advice on that? Is there a converter built in to APP CC that deinterlaces in realtime when monitoring interlaced sources on a progressive screen? And would you agree that deinterlacing source material is best left right before outputting?

  • Problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements

    Hello,
I have a problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements : the file is read but the quality is quite bad. When I watch it with other software like VLC or MPC, the quality is perfect but the video is sometimes slowed or there are some jumps in the reading.
What is the issue with this ?
    thakns for your help !
    Olivier.

This is easy. I do it all the time. FCPX ingests GoPro footage just fine. Optimize, and you're good to go.
BTW: A common hiccup occurs when dealing with over-cranked footage. (60fps or 120fps.) Be sure to "conform speed" to actuate the slo-mo. 'Tis also important to designate your project / timeline at 24fps or 30fps to realize the speed difference.
I've gotten burned in the past. I'll drag my over-cranked GoPro footage to the timeline. As it is the "first" clip layed into the timeline, the project assumes THAT speed as a default. (As per my preferences.) Thus, when I "conform speed," nothing seems to happen. That's because my project is displaying at the higher rate. A 60fps timeline showing footage shot at 60fps looks "normal speed."
FYI. (And disregard if you know all this.)

  • How to remove a timestamp with adobe premiere elements 8

How do I remove a time and date stamp on a video with adobe premiere elements 8.

If the camera burns in the date/time stamp, then there is not much that can be done.
If you need to eliminate that, then the best would be to apply the Effect>Motion>Scale, to enlarge the footage, until the date/time stamp is effectively cropped off by the Frame Size. You might want to look into Effect>Motion>Position, to "move" the date/time stamp closer to an edge.
The other method is tedious, and requires ideally Adobe AfterEffects. There, you could use the Clone Tool, to "paint out" the date/time stamp, if there is enough clean background to do so.
A variation on that method would be to Export/Share as a Filmstrip and Import that into Photoshop (if one had Photoshop Extended, there are other formats, that would work too), and then Frame by Frame, use the Clone Tool to remove that image.
Though not a way to remove it, you can also replace it with a Title, that occupies the area of the date/time stamp, and just cover it up.
If the camera allows you to turn that "feature" OFF, you would want to do so for newer footage.
Good luck, and sorry for the bad news.

  • Export multichannel mp4/h.264 with Adobe Premiere Pro CC

    Dear community,
we currently test the Adobe Premiere Pro CC trial (German) on a Windows 7 Professional PC.
However, we are not succentful in exporting a multichannel mp4/H.264 clip.
We haven't found an answer on our issue so far, so I hope that this question was not answered several times before in this forum.
If we chosse the H.264 exporter, we cannot select a multichannel audio export (only mono, stereo, 5.1).
In contrary, if we select the Quicktime exporter, we are able to export our sequence with a 4 channel audio master with 4 mono tracks, but we can only export it with a DVCPro Codec in a mov container.
If we try to select a HD H.264 preset we get an error alert stating that the preset contains a not compatible video codec.
    What are we doing wrong?
    Thanks for every suggestion.
    Thanks in advance
    André

    Thanks for your thoughts, Richard.
Your are right, we currentky use the Adobe Premiere Creative Cloud version.
We managed it to solve at least the error message. It was caused because Quicktime was not installed together with the Adobe Premiere Pro / AME setup on our computer.
After we installed Quicktime 7 manually, we can select a Quicktime/H.264 preset without any problems within the exporter settings.
However, the Quicktime/H.264 export dialog seems to only allow a mono or stereo audio export. No multichannel-audio export.
This possibility is only displayed in Richards case, if we select the Quicktime exporter and an Uncompressed Video or DV preset.
Our question to the Adobe developer guys is the reason behind this limition? Other video authoring prograns can export a mp4 with H.264 Codec with multichannel AAC without any problems.
How can we do this with Adobe Premiere Pro (not necessarily via Quicktime)?

  • Tracking shot on photo with Adobe Premiere Elements 7 ?

    Hi everybody !
I won't be long : is it possible to make tracking shots on fixed images with Adobe Premiere Elements 7 ?
Examples of what I mean : http://tv.adobe.com/fr/watch/didacticiels-sur-premiere-elements-10/transformez-vos-photos- en-squences-amusantes/ with Adobe Premiere Elements 10 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzeFQjG4hDo with Pinnacle Studio 14.

As Steve G. says, yes, and for most earlier versions of PrE. I recommend his great Basic Keyframing Series on Muvipix.com: http://muvipix.com/products.php?searchphrase=basic+keyframing&btn.x=19&btn.y=9
Keyframing can be applied to most Effects, whether Fixed, or applied, so it can do much more, than Pan & Zoom. The application of it is almost limitless.

  • Can a video created with Adobe Premiere Elements 13 be converted to run on Adobe Premiere Elements 11?

Can a video created with Adobe Premiere Elements 13 be converted to run (and be edited, etc.) on Adobe Premiere Elements 11?
I have several hours invested in a video creation that I made with Premiere Elements 13, but now 13 is refusing to work properly (space bar and play button do not move the time line indicator forward).  Hopefully, I will get the problem solved, but in the meantime I must get this project completed and don't have time to start over.  So, I need to convert the work so that it can be completed with Premiere 11 which seems to work fine.
    Thanks, Dave

    Dave
Is this an outdated thread? I thought that you had resolved the play button/space bar issue.
Classically, you cannot open a project created in a later version in an earlier version. If you try, you get hit with "The project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened." messaged. There was one rare and little known occasion when that was not the case. It involved Premiere Elements 10. So, that is not going to help us any here.
If you still have the play button/space bar issue, can you get out of the 13 project by exporting it to file which you can import into a new Premiere Elements 11 project? If need be, I can suggest the details of that if you tell me the project setting for the 13 project.
Please let us know the situation at this time.
    Thank you.

  • Using VIDBOX NW03 (from Honest Technology) with Adobe Premiere Elements 3.02

Can I find a driver for using the Honest Technology 's USB VIDBOX NW03 with Adobe Premiere video software?
Because, the driver I've found on the installation CD is only for using the HT VIDBOX NW03 with VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe software. Naturally, I try to save the VHS video file on my hard drive using VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe software as an AVI file and import this file into Adobe Premiere Elements, but I rather use my preferred software (Adobe Premiere Elements)directly with the HT VIDBOX NW03. The VIDBOX connects to my computer via USB.
When I press F5 for capture, nothing appears on the window.
    How could it be done?
    My configurations:
    Processor: Intel Core2 Duo 1.60 GHz + 1.60 GHz = 3.20GHz
    Memory: 4 GB RAM
OS: Windows Vista Home Basic Service Packk 1
Video: NVDIA GeForce 8400M GS (128 MB Video Card)
    Thank you.

    Thank you.
What do you think of the Canopus ADVC55 over the Canopus ADVC100? Because the ADVC55 is less expensive. Does the Canopus ADVC55 has the same performance than the Canopus ADVC100?
What do you think of saving VHS video files using VHS to DVD 3.0 Deluxe software as an AVI file and import this file into Adobe Premiere Elements? Am I going to lose some quality?
Another question: I've just read that Adobe Premiere Elements 3 isn't compatible with Vista. I've updated it to version 3.02. What do you think?
I think I want to stick with 3.02 version than the new 7 version, because I love the fact that I have everything under my view when I open the software for editing. I've read that the new 7 version has a sort of "hood" that covers every details of the timeline. Is it true? If so, it's sad from Adobe. I've read somewhere that the new version is a "dumb" software.

  • Need help with Adobe Premiere Elements 2

I can drag a large high rez jpeg into timeline. Then when I click to playback....it gets more pixelated. That's a bad beginning. Then, when I go to export it, I've tried several extensions. All look bad during playback on YouTube. This should be pretty simple. High quality jpeg, but is fuzzy in movie. What's going wrong?

    hi Bill -
ok fine. I have PSDs too. I tried what you said.
I put a PSD right beside a JPEG in the timeline. I rendered it (which I
didn't know to do because the instructions don't even mention it. The
instructions are terrible. Seems it leaves out a lot of info.)
So, then I click PLAY on my monitor. I see no difference between the PSD
and the JPEG yet. So, if I want to put this on YouTube, what's the best way
exactly, without gettting too technical?  It looks like I have the choice
between Exporting in Mpeg or Quicktime or Windows Media. I think youtube
    likes wmv.

When you drag the stills to the Timeline, there should be a red line
above them. Press Enter to Render the Timeline.

Do not know the particulars of PrE 2, but in later versions, you can
Rt-click on the Program Monitor, and choose Magnification = 100%, rather
than Fit. You might have to resize your Program Monitor, but check at 100%.

    Also remember a few points:

1.) You are looking at a DVD-quality image now, and that was designed
with low-rez CRT TV's in mind, and NOT hi-rez computer monitors. DVD vs
hi-rez sources and displays is probably less than what VHS vs DVD was, not
    that long ago.
2.) You are looking at an emulation, a preview
3.) Your images have already been compressed to JPEG once, loosing
quality. That is why I always work in PSD, especially if there has already
been one JPEG compression, whether in camera, or in the image processing
stage. I keep JPEG either out of my workflow, or as limited, as is
possible. Some do not see the quality loss with JPEG compression, but I do,
and if I can create images that are as good as it gets, I know that my
    clients will be happy.

  • I couldn´t see imported videos with Adobe Premiere pro

    Hello:
My name is Oren. I´m from Spain, and this is my problem.
One month ago I bought a Toshiba Satellite 850-31M. It has an x64 processor, 16 GB of RAM and I have 2 hard drives, the c: an SSD of 500 GB and other of 1 Tb hardisk, configured as D:. It has a GeForce GT 630M graphics card with 2 GB of RAM. W8 operating system.
I wanted to try the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and I downloaded the trial version. No problem, until I tried to import a video in the source window. Appears a small window that says "importing" and give to play in the source window and start .Audio be heard, but not the image. I've tried different video formats and always the same. The same video are seamlessly Quick Time and other video viewers ..... I do not know what to do, I think I've tried everything, even restart the computer to its factory settings and install Adobe Premiere vacuum and the problem remains. I tested with a trial of Premiere CS5.5 and got it. You hear the audio but no video . Insert the video in the timeline and recognizes it as such, even the first frame, but said, is not seeing in the "source", nor in the preview, only the audio.
What could it be? Am I you could lend a hand I'm desperate?
    thank you very much

FCP 10.1 DV capturing from camera breaking the scenes into unwanted clips by flashing a black screen on import window. But its fine and accurate with adobe premiere pro cc ?
    Any solution * Advance Thanks

FCP X will import into separate clips every time it detects a scene change (as when you stopped and started recording in the camera). There is no option to avoid this, as far as I known.
You may try importing from camera using Quicktime Player X and then bringing the imported file into FCP X.

  • Can you do wire-framing with Adobe Premiere Elements 8?

Can you do wire-framing with Adobe Premiere Elements 8?  If so, how?
    Thanks.

Well, I found out all about wire framing.  I went to the public access station and saw their "state of the art" equipment and software.  Wire framing is a very elaborate process of selecting the portion to blow up and repositioning it. I was told it was a very special feature of this particular software (Final Cut).  Guess what?  I was able to do the very same thing by clicking on the video clip in the workspace window, grab the corner and resize it and center it the way I wanted.  Took less than half the time, with fewer steps.  I looked at my result and the result from the "special feature" and I couldn't see any difference.
However, you were correct when you cautioned about zooming in and losing quality. When I zoomed in too much, it became blurred. The whole reason for all of this was because of a window that should have been covered prior to the performance.  There is a lot of annoying light from the window and the director wanted to cut it out.  Unfortunately, by cutting out the window, some of the dancers were cut out as well.  I haven't shown her the finished product yet, but I left some of the window in some of the clips in order to keep all the dancers.
Again, thank you for all your help.

  • Yosemite upgrade causing issues with Adobe Premiere Elements 10

    Hi,
Over the last weekend I upgraded my mid-2010 iMac to Yosemite from Snow Leopard and it seems to have caused an error with Adobe Premiere Elements 10.
Prior to upgrading I was working on a project without issue. Now, when I try to open it I get an error "The project is not compatible with current version of Premiere Elements".
I have tried other projects and some open without issue whilst others also present the same error. The difference between the projects appears to be whether a DVD menu has been selected. If the project has one - it fails to open.
It seems strange that the OS would affect software in this way but that is all that has been changed.
If someone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated.
