Thought about the hinges (of the display)

so i have been reading all of these issues with the macbook pro's (late 2008) display hinges problems (where they will not hold the screen open if the computer is tilted (towards the user) at more than 45 degrees the screen will just shut almost completely)....
so since i ordered one, i got really concerned (but since i live 2.5 blocks from the fifth avenue store in nyc i walked there.... i tested 6 of the 8 display units (macbook pro's) and saw that the screen would only shut wen i passed the 45 degree line.... so this would make me think that it isnt that bad since i dont think i ever tilted my macbook more than 45 degrees as i dont sit upside down or lay on the floor keeping the base 90 degrees from my body.....
and as the sales agent said (it is a pretty heavy screen considering its made with glass)... i think it isnt that much of a downer.....
give me ur opinions..... as i am awaiting mine to arrive on monday

the hinge thing is normal.. it is not loose and i don't think apple is going to make it tighter.. if it was tight, then u would have to use both your hands to open the lid since the base would lift up.. and u r right, the lid doesn't fall down if u keep the laptop around 40 degrees or so, it only falls down when u tilt the laptop to 45 degrees or more but that position is senseless.. people just find a thing to complain about.. this is a great laptop, MUCH better than the previous one.. if one goes and buys the prv. one right now, then he/she is loosing out a lot of improvements.. also, glossy screen helps reduce eye strain and screen looks much better than matte..

  • Still waiting for the Hinge for the laptop for more than a Month

    Hi There,
I am writing this mail to let you know that I am very disappointed with HP regarding my laptop that I gave to the authorized HP repairer(Telefix,260 south road, hilton,sa 5033) in Adelaide. Its been more than a month now and every 2nd day I am calling the repairs to let me know the status of the laptop(for the repalcement of the hinge) and everytime I hear from them that they would be able to repair it by the end of the week for last 3 weeks.I called them today as well and I get to hear the same story and they said that they are still waitng on part from HP.
So can you please expedite the delivery of it as my work is really suffering in absence of my laptop.
    My Hp model # DV6700.

This is a user to user forum, not much we can do for you, sorry to hear about the problems you are having.

  • Recently replaced optical drive with SSD and stripped the screw of the hinge on the optical drive. Now speaker is muffled

I still have the hinge but its not on the enclosure for the ssd. Now my speaker on the right side is muffled. Do I need a replacement bracket or is my problem unrelated?

It would be helpful if you indicated the EXACT model/year MBP that you have.
What 'hinge ' are you referring to?  I am unaware of any hinges on an optical drive.
Look at the iFixit.com website for pictorial instructions that may assist you with your problem.
    Ciao.

  • The left side of the hinge cover on my Macbook Pro, is this something I should be concerned about?

The black plastic hinge cover on my Macbook Pro has a loose left side, it feels like it's not against the hinges like the other side is. When I push down on the cover it feels like there's empty space between the cover and what I assume to be the hinges. I was wondering if this is something I can repair myself or if I need to take it to Apple? I have coverage for hardware issues until April 2012.

If its covered just take it in.  If you tinker with it and something else happens to it you void the warranty.  My philosophy is, if there is a warranty, use it.m that's why they were created.  To protect the buyer in cases like yours

  • Lenovo Y50 still have the hinge breaking problem?

Do anyone know if the Lenovo Y50 is still having the screen display hinge breaking or exploding from the base problem?

My Laptop has just started falling apart about a month after my warranty ended (of course) here is my list of problems that have been happening since my warrenty ended. 1. The part that the screw actually screws into the part that holds the hinge to the laptop has broken off so my screen is being held on by 1 screw very scary as it could fall of any minute. 2. The plastic piece that covers the hinge will pop off everytime I open my laptop and makes a horrible cracking sound when I have to keep opening my laptop to snap back the plastic piece so that I can use my laptop. I am now using scotch tape to fix this for now very embarrasing when gaming with my friends. 3. I have been slowly losing screws on the bottom of my laptop to hold the whole thing togeather I am now down to 8 out of the 12 that are supposed to be there. A screw just recently fell off and it happend to be the last screw that was holding my screen to the laptop so I had to swap some screws around so that my screen was being held on by something. I was looking for a quality gaming laptop I could take to college and I will be heading off to college in a month!  I would not sugguest this laptop and will probably never purchase a lenovo product again as this seems to be a somewhat common problem.

  • My laptop will not close.  Nothing is in the way of the screen and keyboard but it stays open about 1/4 inch

All of a sudden my Macbook won't close.  It just stays open about 1/4 inch.  Pressing it the cover (SCREEN) down, doesn't do a thing it just pops back up.  How can I fix this?
    Deanna

May be that the hinge at the back does not work properly.
If there is an Apple store nearby, take the computer there to have it fixed.
    Best.

  • Hinge loose.  Display easily tilts more than it used to.

I have two 17" Apple Studio Displays. The hinge on the display has become very loose. It will easily tilt back with just the slightest force.
In addition, it doesn't stay up at the same angle as my other display. If you pull the display up so that is in the same angle as the other display, then release it, it will slowly slide back an inch or two. This never used to happen.
Also, I noticed that on the display with the working hinge, you can't "push" the foot towards the display with any physical force. However, on the other display, you can push the foot towards the display easily. It looks like the hinge is broken.
Is there an easy fix for this?

  • Upon opening my display, the hinge clicks...help?

I'm really starting to get nervous. I got my new 17" Macbook Pro in very late August. I just noticed this today, because I don't ever recall it happening. But when I open my display from being closed, the hinge clicks. The click occurs on the left side of the hinge when its pretty much making a right angle with the keypad. And if I open the display all the way then it clicks on both sides. These clicks sound small, but are pretty noticeable...I can't feel the click in the display, but again they are very noticeable. The clicks sound like a small hitch snapping into place, or un-snapping. It sounds both like a click or a snap, it doesn't sound normal. I haven't experienced anything wrong with how my computer functions (although it connected to my schools wireless, but the internet wasn't working, that's unrelated to the computer I believe...). It seems to occur more noticeably when its on my desk rather than on my lap. I don't know what it could be! I don't know what to do about it, or if its even a problem. Maybe I'm just paranoid? Any help?

there have been several posts here from several people who have had hinges adjusted in similar circumstances, Ralstyy.
If it worries you, given that you are well within warranty, take it in to your nearest Apple service provider to get checked out.
    Cheers

  • Question about timeline navigation and the display list-

I’ve got a movieclip called “rotatorProxy” that spans the entire timeline. I’ve got nav buttons that jump to various frames on that timeline. I need to get the display depth of rotatorProxy each time the nav buttons move the playhead. The AS3 code is easy enough:
    var zIndex:int = this.getChildIndex(getChildByName("rotatorProxy")) ;
my problem is where to put it. If I put this code in any script that executes in the target frame, it works, but only if I hit the nav buttons slowly. If I bang on a single nav button rapidly, getChildByName("rotatorProxy”) can return null. I don’t know much about how the display list works but I assume the display list is rebuilt after every jump and the frame scripts are executing asynchronously, so it’s possible my getChildByName call is  executed before the display list is complete. Is there an event or some other handle that would allow me to call my code before the frame is rendered but after the display list is complete?

Wow, thanks for the fast response...
“if rotatorProxy exists in all frames, it should never return null.”
That’s what I thought, but not what I’m seeing, rapidly jumping around on the timeline seems to confuse the player and it temporarily looses track of rotatorProxy.
You can sort of see it in action here: http://www.appliedcd.com/newACT/act.html
The zIndex is used to establish the depth of the rotating screens which have been added to the display list via AS. If you bang on the nav buttons quickly you’ll see the stacking order screw up, if you had been in the development environment you’d see the null error thrown.
I’ll see if I can use the render event to sort this out. I know testing in the frame after the jump will work, but it’s cleaner if I can establish the proper stacking order before the first jump frame is rendered.

    Every time Firefox opened

Your code is absolutely unreadable - even if someone was willing to
help, it's simply impossible. I do give you a few tips, though: If you
understand your code (i.e. if it really is YOUR code), you should be
able to realize that your minimum and maximum never get set (thus they
are both 0) and your exam 3 is set with the wrong value. SEE where
those should get set and figure out why they're not. Chances are you
are doing something to them that makes one 'if' fail or you just
    erroneously assign a wrong variable!

I've got a MacBook Pro 15' running 10.6.6. I want to use an external monitor for my graphic design work using Adobe software and thought I'd try an HD TV. I ran a Mini Display to HDMI lead to the TV but the picture quality was disappointing. I also tried a Mini Display to VGA lead and that wasn't much better. I tried all variations of resolutions in System prefs - Displays but nothing helped. Am I getting something wrong? Thanks all.

In addition to pixel density, you are up against the translation driver card in the TV.
If you read the fine print of computer-resolution-capability in the TV user guide, you will see a chart as tall as the manual page.  At the top is the smallest resolution capable, at the bottom is the full use of the 1080p in the TV.
Mac falls into the top 25% of the page, maxing out at 1366x768 often.  This is because the TV control card is expected to do too much of the work, but is not designed for computer-monitor processing.
I looked at the resolution charts on 2 TVs before deciding to buy a 1080p LCD monitor that has a TV interface/connector.  Computer monitor first, TV second.  But the thing is only 27 in.  Good thing TV is not as important to me as it is to others.

  • I cannot find a way to sort the bookmark folders themselves alphabetically by name.I am not talking about in a view mode but in the way they are displayed when I click on my bookmarks tab. Can someone explain to me how to accomplish this.

I have a lot of various book mark folders with websites contained within each folder. I am able to sort the websites within each folder alphabetically by name but I cannot find a way to sort the bookmark folders themselves alphabetically by name.I am not talking about in a view mode but in the way they are displayed when I click on my bookmarks tab. Can someone explain to me how to accomplish this other than manually dragging them as this is extremely hard for me due to the fact that I am a quadriplegic with limited hand movement dexterity

Bookmark folders that you created are in the Bookmarks Menu folder. "Sort" that folder.

    Try the following:
In Finder, select the problematic volume and then press command-I.
Expand the Sharing & permissions section if it's collapsed.
If the section is locked, then unlock it by pressing the padlock button and then authenticating as directed.
Tick/check Ignore ownership on this volume.
