Thoughts? Changes? Recommendations?

Just ordered this from endpcnoise.com (hasn't been built yet). What do you think? I should be able to make (hacked) use of MPE in PPro CS5, to edit at least AVCHD with this system. Thoughts?

  • Buying a new computer with Snow Leopard    Thoughts/Advice/ Recommendations

Hey all, right now I'm on my old 2003 G4 1.07GHz white 12" iBook, 256 MB, using Safari 3.0.4
I am SERIOUSLY thinking about purchasing a new computer, and am thinking a brand new white Mac 13" I Book with:
    2.13GHz / 250GB Serial ATA HardDrive
    4GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x2GB
I have not EVER used Leopard, or Snow Leopard.I use my computer for a very wide variety of uses.Lots and lots of things.
Here are my questions that I prefer to be answered please by MAC people who seriously consider themselves knowledgeable experts.
    1. Do you think I'm buying too much memory or "too much" hard drive ? Or not enough ? What do you think of the configuration ?
    2. Would you tell me to wait until next year and see what Apple comes up with ? I hear talk of flash drives and other things. My current computer runs fine and is great, just seems a bit out of date nowadays and getting seriously older.I could wait if I thought the wait was worth it.I mean, we're nearing 2010.
    3. Any advice and recommendations about Snow Leopard for me ? I do NOT wanna screw up a brand new computer within the first week or two.
Thanks in advance to all who answer.

No iBook is 2.13 Ghz, nor are any 13". Apple replaced the iBook line with the MacBook and MacBook Pro lineup. The 13" white MacBook and the 13" Aluminum MacBook Pro are the current new models.
    1. Do you think I'm buying too much memory or "too much" hard drive ? Or not enough ? What do you think of the configuration ?
You can never have too much memory, albeit after awhile some machines can only address so much.

Flash drives are already optional in MacBooks and MacBook Pros.
Talk of other things, you should read this tip:

    Migrating user data, be careful:

    Intel Macs have no Classic.
Snow Leopard may have difficulty with old Carbon applications, though works fine with Appleworks. Read these links to make sure you are able to migrate to Snow Leopard:

If you aren't, a used or refurbished Mac* might be best, or upgrading your existing iBook to 640MB of RAM, if nothing but slowness is plaguing it:

Getting a larger capacity parallel ATA 2.5" 9.5mm hard drive may help too.

  • BOXIR2 hostname change - recommended or not?

    Hello,
Reading on the forums, it seems some versions of Business Objects are okay with changing a server name and some are not.  We are running BOXIR2 and require rebuilding of a server.  We ideally would like to setup our new server, install BOXIR2...move over the reports and run it in parallel for a bit.  Then once we are happy, shut down the old one and change the hostname on the new one.
Does BOXIR2 handle this fine?  Experiences out there?
    Thx.

R2 not really but there are notes out there to fix a renamed server. On XI 3.1 this should not cause any major issues
    Regards,
    Tim

  • I am using photoshop elements (8) for several years since I upgraded form (2). I am a mac user and just upgraded to yosimite.  Photoshop elements will not open.  I have tried to make the changes recommended by the Adobe website, but I can not locate them

How can I get photoshop elements to work on my mac with Yosimite??

Yes, that is correct. The organizer is just a database, so your photos are wherever you put them intially. Did you import from iphoto? In that case, organizer does make duplicates (to avoid writing into the iphoto library, which would be a Bad Thing to do). If you didn't specify a location, the copies that PSE uses will be inside subfolders in the Adobe folder in your Pictures folder.

  • Can you recommend a system for me?

Hello!  I am looking into purchasing a new computer system to support my work projects and am not sure what to purchase.  I mostly work with mass communication, photos, other graphics, print design as well as routine word processing.  I use Illustrator and InDesign, but find it takes an eternity for large files to load.  Even viewing photos has become challenging.  My boss told me to buy a new system and told me to get whatever I needed.  The problem is... I have no idea what that is!
My company utilizes a third-party IT vendor, which also helps us order and manage quipment.  They made the following recommendations:
    Windows 7 Professional
    64 bit
    8 gigs of RAM (minimum)
Seperate graphics card with 1 additional gig of memory dedicated to graphics
Is this a good recommendation?  What would you change or add?  I don't think I am in a position to have something that is ultra customized, so I am looking for something mostly out of the box which will fit my needs.  I'll also mention that while Mac is often desirable, I am hoping to avoid that because I would be the only person on my entire team using an Apple system and I worry about integration challenges.
I welcome your thoughts and recommendations.  Thanks so much!

Are you getting a desktop or notebook computer?
In terms of RAM, 8GB is the bare minimum but will at least work. I would recommend 16GB of RAM or more for a notebook computer (if possible, some models won't support that much). If you're getting a new desktop machine I'd definitely get as much RAM as possible. 24GB to 32GB would be good.
Definitely get a dedicated video card for either a notebook or desktop machine. "Integrated" graphics (a graphics chip on the motherboard that sucks on system RAM) is terrible for any creative or multimedia demands. Try to get a graphics card that supports Adobe's GPU acceleration. It makes a noticeable difference in how well Illustrator performs.
Make sure you get a fast internal hard disc drive. That makes a pretty big difference in opening and saving files as well as your boot up time. A solid state drive would be fastest, but most expensive (and you take a hit on storage capacity). Try to get a 2nd physical hard disc installed for scratch disc use (this is pretty easy to do with desktop machines). Use external USB 3.0 hard discs to back up your data.
Regarding the Mac or PC thing, that really should depend on the other applications you have to use and files you share with others. I'm on a Windows-based system due to sign industry specific software not available for the Mac platform. I also need to be able to run CorelDRAW and there's no Mac native version of it.
The Windows platform is definitely the most targeted by cyber criminals, but it's not difficult to protect yourself using a PC. A lot of people get their PCs infected by making pretty simple and obvious mistakes. Many PC users don't want to admit they got their computers infected by doing things they probably shouldn't have been doing, like seeking out pirated movies, music, porn and software. Windows users do need to make an effort to keep their machines updated with the latest security patches and have anti-virus software installed. Many don't bother with any of that out of laziness and then act like they have no responsibility when their machine gets infected. Quite a few computer users don't even have the basic knowledge to even know how to install patches, much less even find their way around in the computer's file system to keep their data organized. By the way, buying a Mac won't solve any of those knowledge problems. If cyber criminals start really concentrating on the Mac platform it's going to open a whole new can of worms concerning unprotected machines.
Tracking software is a very insidious thing. Even if the web browser and other software in your machine isn't doing it directly there's a chance other parties are looking at the packets of data your computer is exchanging with other servers. I recently watched the documentary "Citizen Four" on HBO. The things that various governments (including our own here in the US) are doing to violate privacy is pretty horrifying.

  • If you have forgotten your security question how can you change them?

Have not had to use this option so I really have forgot all about setting this up till the other day.. But when this come up that I did have to use I found out I forgot what I had use.. Stupid me.. Any way I did get my password rest and thought changing this would be simple inside my account.. Wrong... Appears you have also know your old one to change it.. Now this is so stupid.. I don't want to have to pay for support to have apple to reset this option.. Does any one know if Apple has a Email support to help with issue like this.. I may never need this option again but really it was a pain to get around it.
    Thanks Everyone

Contact Apple, they can reset the security question infomation and you shouldn't need to pay for support on this. There is no troubleshooting your paying for, you're just having assistance for account security

  • HD Upgrade in MacBook Pro (Early 2008 Model) Recommendations?

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro (Early 2008 Model), with Snow Leopard 10.6.6 installed (will probably upgrade to Lion when it's released and stable). I want to upgrade the 200gb drive to something over 500gb. The two drives I am currently interested in are the:
    1) Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD6400BEVT 640GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive
    2) Seagate Momentus ST9750420AS 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive
However, I have read of people having problems (hard drive going to sleep, and beach-ball of death whenever you need to load an application or something, etc.) with the Western Digital Scorpio Blue drives in their MacBook Pros. I don't want to have to do a lot of tweaking, I just want to be able to install and go.
Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations on a hard drive to put in this laptop? Any success stories with Early 2008 model HD upgrades?
    Thank you,
    Jesse

I would go with the faster drive (Seagate 7200 RPM drive) as you will notice the difference in speed. I've got a Seagate Momentus 320 Gig (7200 RPM) that I put in my late 2007 MBP and have had no issues with it.
I seem to get more of a beachball from my Time Machine drive spinning up than I do from the internal drive. It is noticeable but tolerable.

  • Change text in WD ABAP work protect mode pop up

    Hi All,
We have implemented MSS Appraisals, In appraisal document (WD ABAP application --- HAP_MAIN_DOCUMENT) in review phase, when user selects "Save and Exit " radio button and click on continue button, a pop up comes with message -
"This application contains unsaved data which may be lost.
Do you want to continue without saving the changes"
    How to change this text?
I think its using FPM message manager (FPM_MESSAGE_MANAGER) application but I couldn't find above message anywhere to customize the text (its not there in T100 table).
    Any ideas? Please help.
    Thanks,
    Pradeep

    Hi Kai,
    Thank you for the response...
I am not sure of the location of the text you suggested, but I found that
text is maintained in CL_FPM_CONFIRMATION_REQUEST abap class. this text is divided in to two text 1) This application contains unsaved data which may be lost. and 2) Do you want to continue without saving the changes? And append this is the class constructor.
We can change the text here... But thought changing the text is not a solution for my issue, so I need to address the root cause....
I contacted SAP (raised an OSS message) and working with them on this, as of now we modified our logic in Value Determination BADI and it is working fine 90%
Update: modified Value determination BAdi and V_T77SP_2 table entry to solve this issue!
    Thanks,
    Pradeep

  • Antivirus/Internet Security recommendations

Any suggestions/recommendations on antivirus / internet security for my L505D-S5983. Norton comes with the system for 30 days  .. however Best Buy suggested and gave me (6) months of Trend Micro's antivirus and AntiSpyware at no charge  ... Any thoughts and recommendations are appreciated  ..  Thanks

we use Avast! as our antivirus... we also use firefox with the adblockplus and noscript addons... most all of our other protections are handled by our extensive firewall setup...
you might also want to take a look at sunbelt software's offerings... i've been following them for years and they have excellent products and support... their new vipre technology is also a lot better, faster, and less memory hungry than any other package out there... for those that i've set up with sunbelt's stuff, all have been very happy and have stayed with them...
why don't we use sunbelt's stuff ourselves? we don't need it with our setup

  • 3D PSD file import : how to change 3D anchor point in AE ? Challenge..!

    Hello everyone,
I've successfully imported a 3D file from Photoshop Extended CS4 into AE CS4. In AE, I can sucessfully animate rotation of the 3D object.
Here's the problem : I cannot change the 3D object's anchor point. I've tried changing the anchor point's coordinates on the controller layer of the 3D object layer, the numers change, but the anchor point remains at its initial position, as if it was locked.
I also thought changing the anchor point in PS Extended before importing the file into AE, but PS Extended does not seem to have an anchor point changing tool.
So I even reasoned back one step : changing the anchor point in my 3D software since the beginning. Well, not possible because PS Extended seems to create an average position for the anchor point when impoting a 3D file from a third party software. So useless changing the coordinates in the 3D software.
Photoshop Extended 3D is the only possible workflow to import 3D objects into AE that I know of.
So, is is possible to change the 3D anchor point directly in After Effects ? What blocks that point from being changed ?
This is quite a challenging problem, good luck for finding a solution ! I'm very sure that this technique is commonly needed and used when working in 3D, and that it will be of great help for many designers that want 3D in After Effects !
    Thanks again !
Note : please do not confuse simple After Effects standard 3D layer, with the 3D PSD file import layer, these are two totally different types

Any further forward with this anyone?
This is driving me insane as well...
I'm trying to create a simple comp within AE and have my clients logo fly on behind their text while rotating in 3D space.
The idea is for it to rotate on the X axis, but rotate within the logo itself (straight through the axis within the logo itself)
But when I try to rotate it, the AP is about 2.5 "logo depths" away from the logo, so when the rotation of any axis starts it looks ridiculous.
Are Adobe really trying to tell us that moving the AP is not possible within AE for imported Live Photoshop PSD files?
Hopefully a solution comes along soon as I cannot for the life of me figure out a workaround to the problem......
    Cheers,
    Paul.

  • I need a 2 TB or 3TB drive–any recommendations?

Oh, yeah, I don't want to spend a fortune, but do want a reliable drive. I'd prefer a 3T, one w/FW 800; it must also be bootable.
Seagate's 3TB FreeAgent GoFlex Desk for Mac Drive at $259 looks promising (I have an older Seagate drive that's worked well, it's just too small for Time Machine use).
But I know there's many more not on the Apple store.
I am a very busy amateur photographer, and though I try to be ruthless in deleting shots I won't ever want/use, my storage needs tend to the large side! This one will be strictly used for Time Machine; I'll use my others for archiving or as a boot drive w/Carbon Copy Cloner.
Thanks for any insights, thoughts or recommendations!

  • Changing a lvlib or class icon mask...

I thought changing a class (or lvlib) icon banner via the class properties dialog is supposed to change the banner for all the icons in the class?  Most of the time it doesn't change them for me, but I'm pretty sure it's done it a few times.  Is there any particular reason why it wouldn't update all the icons?

Here are some shots of the class property dialog box and icons from a couple member VIs from a project I'm currently working on.
The first shot is the current condition.  I changed the banner color to more easily distinguish between this class and another class.  None of the member vi banners were updated.  (I had to copy and paste the banner for all my public VIs, but didn't bother with private VIs.)
The second shot is after trying to change the banner color again.  I changed the color and clicked OK in the dialog box but was never presented with the option to update all the VIs.  I took the screenshot after reopening the class property dialog box.
What's odd is that I just tried it with a quick sample class and the member vi was updated correctly.

  • RAM recommendation for video surveillance/Security Spy software

I'm putting together a video surveillance system for my business. The system will utilize Security Spy software (http://www.securityspy.com/) with 7 or 8 video cameras connected to a G5 dual core 2.3 desktop. The computer will be used exclusively for running the Security Spy software and the cameras will be connected via one or two LFG4-MM PCI cards from Active Silicon (when they get the PCI-Express version of the card for the new G5 produced). Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendation as to how much RAM I should install on the G5 desktop. I know more RAM is always better . . . but also expensive. I do not want to purchase extra RAM if the tasks my computer will be performing will be limited by the CPU, disk, or PCI card(s). I'm thinking 2.5 or 4.5 gigs will be ok? I'm looking for some cost-benefit analysis with regard to the amount of RAM. Thanks for your response and insight.

The more RAM the better but 2.5 gigabytes should be fine if that's all the G5 is going to be doing. You're probably better off investing in a few 750 GB hard drives to store the video.

  • Cannot send Sky emails after password change

Changed sky email password, now can receive emails but not send them. Message says user name or password for SMTP [email protected]@smtptools.sky.com is incorrect. Have deleted account and set up again and rebooted iPhone 4. Same prob on iPad. Please can you help.

Someone else with the same issue! This has been driving me nuts - I changed my sky email password and ever since then haven't been able to send emails from iPhone, although I can from other devices and also from the Sky browser, so I know the password I'm using on the iPhone is correct
I'm terms of the 2 step authentication change recommended above, can someone please explain step by step how to do this?
    Thanks

anyone have any thoughts or recommendations on a good or great antivirus software? already done the Mcaffee, Norton, AVG, IOBit routine and recently installed Microsoft Security Essentials and had a major crash and burn as something new and undetected popped it's cherry and it's dead in the water. I've heard rumors about German technology but I'm looking for some good feedback as I just can't afford another crash and burn as this is the 2nd this year! thanks!
