Thoughts on installing CF 10 Beta into windows XP virtual Machine

Hello everyone,
I've got a pretty easy questions for everyone. Like many people out there I'm wanting to try out some things in the 10 beta. However I only have one development computer that is currently running CF9. Since I only have the one system I wanted to see what people thought about installing CF10 into windows virtual machine (XP Mode). I figure that way I can have both running and not worry about one affecting the other.
Is there any known reason why this couldn't work?
Thanks for your thoughts.

  • It's possbile to upgraded from win2003 x64 sp2 which installed SCOM 2007 R2 into windows 2008 R2 directly?

    current OS: windows 2003 R2 x64 SP2
current SCOM version: SCOM 2007 R2
current database version: SQL Server 2005
it's possbile to upgraded from win2003  which installed SCOM 2007 R2  into windows 2008 R2 directly without reconfiguartion SCOM?

    Hi,
And as far as I know, in-place operating system upgrade could work, but there is no document about this. Please take backup before doing upgrade.
If you want to in place upgrade the OS, we can simply move SCOM databases to  new servers and rebuild management servers one at a time. the downtime for SCOM would be very minimum if the management group has the capacity for agents to report to failover
management servers while the primary MS is getting rebuilt. You do not have to perform in place upgrade on the OS to keep SCOM.
Based on your need, I would like to suggest you add a Windows 2008 R2 as additional management server for your management group. And if possible, please also upgrade your SQL 2005 to SQL 2008.

Dear Yan, Since rebuild/config SCOM Server is very complicated so it's better that I can just upgraded OS into windows 2008 R2 without do anything else.

  • I'm trying to install Star Wars: Empire at War (origional) and I'm getting a data2.cab (cycle redundancy check) error. Can this be fixed so I can install this game on my Windows XP virtual drive?

I insert the CD and it is recognized. Then I enter the game code off the box and it begins to install for a couple of minutes until it gets this error. I can go no further afterward. The Cd is not scratched enough to damage the files on it because I installed it on my Dell XPS laptop just fine.

I have just now successfully installed this game on my Windows XP virtual drive on my Macbook Pro laptop. It works like a charm. I kept at it and resolved the issue on my own. The CD had to be copied and installed from the file.

  • Installing cs4 in Windows 7 Virtual machine

    Hello,
I am having problems with AE and windows 7 64 bit. Ram preview isn't working / crashing AE I wanted to do a clean install on XP using Windows virtual machine. I unserstand it sounds stupid, but all I am trying to do is sync some effects to a soundtrack and it's not working and I am on a deadline.
Has anyone installed these, I get an install error, Contact Adobe Support. not very helpful.
    Thanks,.
    David

Yeah, but what do you expect? It's weekend and your scenario really isn't something people do every day. I would even guess that it's more of an issue with memory and keyboard handling settings in the VM rather than a flaw in the Adobe program. In any case, what's so bad about just installing CS4 in W7 itself or installing the CS5 trial? If you're on a deadline, it's certainly better to have some way of working and worrying about any side effects later than waiting for a solution to fall out of the sky...

  • Using one copy of Windows to install via boot camp and on a virtual machine?

I have a copy on windows 7 coming in the post and I was wondering if it is possible to install windows 7 via boot camp when I want to do something more memory intensive such as gaming and also install it on a virtual machine such as virtual box just for other regular stuff. Also would this be possible using one copy of windows and one licence key?

Then you need Parallels or Fusion to link to a native Windows partition.

  • How to Install an APO Livecache on Windows Using Virtual Host Names

    Hi,
How to Install Live Cache on windows using Virtual Host names?
we are using SCM 4.0 with  live cache build 7.4.3 on two differnt servers.
I have checked the Live cache CD (7.4.3) is with setup.cmd, where as it need use command sapinst.exe SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=Virtual hostname.
    Please advise.
    Thanks

a possible workaround (that I have no tested) is to temporarily name your server with the same of the virtual name, install. when completed, rename server to original name.
This is not a proven method, but it might work.

  • Can't install Photosmart D7460 software in Windows 7 virtual CD in a Mac

I ran the Win 7 HP software + it stopped @ the end because it could not see the printer.  The printer was recognized by Win 7 + is shown twice in device mgr.  The printer is connected to my Mac by USB + prints fine for the Mac.
This is what Fusion's response to me was:
If you want to connect the printer via USB then you will just need to follow the instructions that came with the printer and connect it to the virtual machine by selecting Virtual Machine > USB > Connect <printername> when you are prompted to during the installation. IT may not be working because you did not follow the instructions that came with the printer, as with most of these printers you need to install the drivers and at a specific part of the installation it prompts you to connect the printer. Connecting the printer to Windows is the equivalent to selecting Virtual Machine > USB > connect <device name> If you are having problems following the printers instructions I would suggest contacting HP as they may be able to walk you through it on the phone.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Disconnecting WEB SSL VPN client windows 7 to remote windows 7 virtual machine

    Good morning,
my problem, common to other colleagues who use Windows machines 7 Professional is this:
I connect to WEB SSL VPN Cisco from Client Windows 7 Home Premium Explorer-9 to a virtual machine Windows 7 Professional using a specific professional audience and vpn user. I access the Terminal Services window (attached JPG) with a list of links to virtual machines.I connect to the virtual machine in Remote Desktop Full Screen mode and log in with the same user and password. For the connection is installed an add-type control ActiveX CISCO Portforwarder Control version 3.1.0.1, file name -> cscopf.ocx.
Problem: The session window once inside the virtual machine disappears and disconnect from the virtual machine back in the window of choice of Terminal services available. This always happens and there is no way to maintain a stable connection. With modality not FULL SCREEN, the session window would seem to remain stable but however is impossible to work in a small window.
This problem is raised after the update windows 7 to SP1 both Home premium and Professional. In fact before the update the connection is stable. The update to SP1 update the RDP client microsoft to version 6.1.7601.17154 from version 6.1.7600 but i do not know if this the cause of the problem.
Have you an update of CISCO active-x to fix the problem? I cancelled the file and download the last version but the problem remains.
Workaround: Use local virtual machine with xp or windos 2003 and access form this operating system but I consider absurd to use a local
virtual machine to access a service which should be directed
Note: This problem does not occur if the VPN session to the virtual machine Windows 7 is launched from a host machine running Vista Home Premium with RDP Client 6.0. My previous PC had this OS and I was working in an absolutely stable by performing the same type of connection.
Host Operating System: OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
OS virtual machine accessed via ssl web vpn: OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
    Can you help?Thank you.
    Carmelo Orlando
    No

The same problem here as well.
I am using a Win7 PC to connect to an Win Vista PC via SSLVPN. Once i logged into the remote PC, the session is disconnected.
Do we have any corrections from Cisco for the moment?

  • Virus help needed:  Parallels:  Windows XP virtual machine

I will preface my remarks by apologizing in advance for my lack of technical sophistication, inexperience with Windows, and experimental approach to providing tech support to myself. It just happens to be the case that I have infrequently needed to use computers in my work life, aside from operating cash registers equipped with POS systems; and have used Macs at home for my entire life as a computer user. (I only started using the internet about nine years ago, although I am 44 years old.)
Here is the background of my situation:
In Winter 2008, in anticipation of training for and entering into a new line of work, I purchased a MacBook3,1. Because the new line of work would regularly require me to use Windows-based applications, I purchased Parallels 3.0 at the same time that I purchased the MacBook.
I installed Parallels 3.0 from a disk, installed Windows XP, and set up a virtual machine. I used this VM for more than a year and a half without incident. A one-year certificate for Kapersky Internet Security was included with the purchase of Parallels. In the meantime, I upgraded to Parallels 4.0 in Winter 2009. The upgrade was accomplished via download, using the product key that I'd purchased.
At some point, my Kapersky certificate expired. I was unclear (though I am no longer) as to whether running Windows on Mac was any different - - i.e. more secure -- than running it on Mac. I made a mental note to look into the whole matter and avoided using the internet while working in the Windows VM.
At some point, however, I lapsed in my practice of avoiding using the internet while working in the Windows VM. I ended up with a virus, of course.
That said, I had (and have) a back-up of what I believe to be a pre-virus Windows VM. I used this back-up to add/create a new VM. I was prompted to back up the back-up before so doing; and was also prompted to update the new machine to Parallels 4.0. Which I did. The update to Parallels 4.0 took a long time.
In the interim, I had moved some working files from the infected VM (which themselves were infected, judging from all indications) into the Mac OS for temporary storage.
My memory of what I did and what happened next is imperfect. But here it is in gist and to the best of my recollection:
When I booted the new machine, I received a message to the effect that I should install Kapersky Internet Security -- although the certificate I'd purchased along with Parallels 3.0 had ostensibly expired. I installed Kapersky. Then I received a message that I needed to update Kapersky. Which I did. This, too, took a long time.
I then cloned the new machine.
I then rebooted the new machine and moved the infected files into it. I scanned the infected files for viruses and nothing showed. Then I opened one or more of them to see if things were operating satisfactorily. The virus, I soon discovered, was present in the new machine. At some point I also received a message to the effect that the Kapersky software itself had been altered? And subsequently received a message prompting me to accept or not accept a rule relevant to internet security/Kapersky. (I forget exactly what I did in response.)
I then booted the clone -- into which I had NOT moved the infected files. The virus eventually showed up there as well. I also received a message to the effect that Kapersky may not be up to date -- even though the VM was a clone of a machine that was ostensibly recently updated. AND I received the same massage prompting me to accept or not accept a rule relevant to internet security/Kapersky. Which I ignored.
I have since deleted the new machine and its clone. I have backed up onto CD my infected work files in case I may learn in the future of some way of disinfecting them.
What do I do from here? I am interning in my new line of work, and need to get Windows up and running ASAP for that reason. I still have the back-up of what I believe to be a pre-virus Windows XP VM.
Sorry to be so broad and so vague.
    Thanks for any feedback.

Kaspersky has a tip area of what to do. So does Norton Community. And one of the best anti-malware is actually free, Microsoft Security Essentials.
A lot of poeple use MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpywear in a crunch or regularly.

    What to do:

    http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/premiumservices/premiumvirus.jsp
Vista and Windows 7 are more secure, there are still vulnerabilities in most browsers, plug-ins, and I'd say Internet Explorer 8 can be the most secure and reliable web browser on Windows.

  • Installing a non-Host printer in a Virtual Machine that's not compatible with Host OS

I have a printer (Canon i9900) that works fine under Windows 7 x64 (through a USB Print Server) but is "not supported" in Windows 8.1 (on a Surface Pro 3).  I have installed on the Surface Pro 3 a Win7 x64  virtual machine using the free version of VMWare, but have been unsuccessful in installing the USB Print Server (Arkview).   The (latest) printer driver seems to install, at least no error messages are displayed.   I have not yet tried installing the printer using a direct USB connection, since that is a sub-optimal configuration for my network.
Am I spinning my wheels in thinking that what I am trying to do is  not possible.  If possible, do I need an upgraded version of VMWare to do this?  If I need a Host-compatible USB print server, any suggestions?  Most of the ones I seen do not indicate support for my (older) Canon i9900 printer.
Thanks for any suggestions.  I'm just trying to extend the useful life of this (wide format, expensive-to-replace) older printer.

Is setting the network to BRIDGED rather than NAT a viable solution?  Any configuration issues? Can I do this using the wireless adapter on the Surface Pro 3?

  • Deploying Windows 7 Virtual Machine

I am looking for some clarification regarding the deployment of windows 7 using virtual machines.
I have a 32 bit and 64 bit vm that are configured to our school districts guidelines. I will deploy these machines to several different Lenovo models.
My first question is: Can I perform a capture only with these machines, without sysprep, as no sid or other machine identifiers are used by the vm?
Second: Should I validate the license for each vm we have. If so, when sysprep is complete it will require the license to be validated again. I would be going through quite a few licenses.
I apologize if I am somewhat naieve, however, any advice offered would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Your first question: No, you need to maintain the sysprep and capture action. When your machine is initially being deployed to the VM, it has a SID generated. Not sysprepping now, means that your machine will not generate a new sid, after you have captured
and redeployed it. Thus you always need to sysprep.
Your second question: When building reference images no personal or company information is required, including product keys. The reason again is sysprep, and then especially the 'generalize' option of sysprep, which erases all personal settings from the
    machine.
So when you are going to deploy the recent captured image, the information will be used, which is stored in the Unattended.xml that is automatically created when you created the task sequence. (Remember the questions? - Admin Password, Company Information,
Registered User, Homepage) All this information is captured in the unattended.xml which you can find in the following folder:
    .\Deploymentshare\Control\<TaskSequenceID>
This way, when you are going to create your image, it's no use to include personal or company information, because it will be overwritten, when you are going to deploy that image, with the second deploy task sequence.
Lastly, you mention a 32 bit and 64 bit VM, while to my opinion you only need 1 64 bit VM. It is perfectly possible to install a 64 bit OS on a 64 bit machine, just as a 32 bit OS can be installed on a 64 bit machine, the other way around however isn't possible.
I usually have, use, 1 virtual machine to build all my images on. But ofcourse I can imagine it may depend on your own situation.
    Cheers!

  • Problem with Installing the Oracle8i PO into Windows ME

I think I have the same problem as some of you had. Recently, I bought the Oracle Book and it has 3 discs: 1 for Oracle Developer 6 for Win 95 or 98, 1 for Oracle 8i PO (release 8.1.5) for Win 95, also 1 for Win 98.
My computer had no problem when I installed the Or. Developer. However, my computer won't allow me to install the Oracle 8i PO Win 98 disc. Instead of that, I have no problem of installing the Oracle 8i PO Win 95 disc. After I installed the Win 95 disc with all correct configuration according to the instructions, I can not CONNECT to the database. So, is this mean the Windows ME is compatible with the Win 95 disc? Or my computer is "screw up"? Because I know Win Me is very much the same as Win 98. If I installed the Win 98 disc, it should be ok. Anyway, I installed the Win 95 disc successful, but can not CONNECT.
So if anyone can help me out, or need a specific error message, I will post up next time. For now, I think I already gave you guys a "head-ache"... sorry.... Thanks all! Wait for your helps guys!

What drivers are you attempting to install?
