Thoughts on TCP/IP "Load only when needed"

Hello:
I've finally gotten DSL and was wondering what others thoughts are about the "Load only when needed" option in TCP/IP? Under dialup, it is best to keep this checked, but with broadband, I have read that you can keep it unchecked.
Just curious what others do in this situation?

You got it in one.
Used to work a treat for me - I could run an applescript to fire up Outlook Express, send all the mail ready to be sent, which would start up Remote Access, I'd key the password, the mails would be sent and thescript would close OE and close the Remote Access connection. Couldn't use the script to fire up remote access cos it doesn't know when / if the connection has been established successfully.
This would sometimes be done over my mobile whilst in transit, so every second I was connected was costing me.
I suppose you could have "Load only when needed" set with broadband, the broadband would still be on and connected, but your Mac would have like an extra firewall until it decided to connect to the internet (but once you're connected you stay connected).

Running VM Manager only when needed, is this possible?

I don't have much resources to hand and currently have the VM Manager installed on a VMWare Server Enterprise Linux image which is actually running my WebLogic Portal. I would rather install the VM Manager on the VM Server, but I can't afford to loose the RAM from the guest OS.
Is it possible to just have the VM Manager installed on a separate environment but only bring it up when I need it? If so, is there a script I can call on the VM Manager install to shutdown/startup the required XE database and OC4J instances which constitute the VM Manager installation?

The VM Manager is not required for general running purposes or HA (which is handled by the Server Pool Master). To start Oracle VM Manager:
service oracle-xe start
service oc4j startBoth oracle-xe and oc4j have standard init.d scripts. :)

Scroller that appears only when needed?

Hi,
I'd like scrollbars appear when the browser gets smaller than the application "page," but not appear otherwise. Currently, I can only get the s:Scroller to appear when I set the scroller height and width smaller than the container size. Then when I resize the browser to smaller than the container size, the scrollbars dissapear when I need them most. At this point the Scoller is not useful and more of a hinderance.
Any suggestions?

Runtime Images are being loaded only when i move Mouse Over them

I am displaying Images on to a Datagrid at Runtime .
The isssue is that Images are being loaded when i move mouse over the rows of DataGrid

If you know the size of the images, have the renderer return measuredWidth
and measuredHeight that reflects the size of the image (or approximate

Ribbon Stuck At Loading Only When Using VPN??

Hey SharePoint Fam,
Just ran into a very weird issue that I am not sure where to start. Basically the ribbon works 100% for myself and all users at the office on the network. We have vendors/contractors that vpn using sslvpn and they are totally unable to get to
the ribbon or click the add a document link. The ribbon just stays at loading and the add a document link does nothing when clicked. I logged into SharePoint with my username which has full admin access and got same issue when going the sslvpn
route but no issue here on the network at office.....I enabled the allow dns suffix setting and did a flush but still no luck..

Thanks for advice. Turns out that our Cisco WebVPN and SharePoint 2010 don't like each other I guess. I had to add the following to webconfig file and now everything is working 100% for all outside users that vpn into our system.

Keychain prompt only when needed?

Sometime ago (might have started with Mavericks, but I'm on Yosemite now) the keychain got a lot more annoying. I get prompted to unlock it every time I log in, or even just after the display turns off (not even going fully asleep). And if I set it to lock itself after 5 minutes of inactivity, which seems reasonable, then it just prompts me to unlock it again every 5 minutes, which is not reasonable at all.
I do want it to lock itself when I log out or sleep the computer, but I don't want to have to unlock it until I actually need it. Generally, since I don't want to keep typing passwords, I just Esc out of the prompts and carry on with my business, so the keychain stays locked. But then later when I do want to use the keychain, say because I've visited a login page for a website, it won't prompt me to unlock. I have to manually open and unlock the keychain, and then reload the webpage as well.
Here's what I want:
Keychain locks automatically on logout, sleep, after inactivity. (This part works already.)
Keychain does NOT prompt me to unlock it just because I logged in, woke the display up, etc. (Much of the time I don't need it, so why bother?)
Keychain DOES prompt me to unlock it when there's something for it to do, e.g. when I visit a login page for a website whose password I've stored. (Now I need it, so it should spring into action like... a springy, active thing.)
Any way to make that happen? It seems like there simply has to be a way to make it less annoying, without just having it unlocked all the time.

Firefox cannot load only one website that I use often. It suddenly froze while I was on it. Now I can load only when I use another computer. All other websites load fine.

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise. This site is obviously a scam since it offers a 280% return on your capital in only 40 days. If that was true, the media would be alight with excitement, but if you do a search for investment reviews, you'll only come across a couple of very obscure sites which purport to show that the plan is 'real'.
Sounds like another [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Madoff Bernard Madoff] scam to me. But at least he was realistic in offering only a 12% return on your invested capital.
To troubleshoot your problem though, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

CST - escalated support role replacing 1st level only when needed?

I'm setting up a CST system with one 1st level CSR and 2 in the escalated role.
Per the CST doc in the KB here: http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/kb/customer-service-ticketing.html, you can't have the same person in both levels. But I want to set it up so that the person in level two can uncheck herself from that level and check herself as available in level 1 when the designated CSR is away.
Will this cause problems?

How to run TCP/IP Tx in cRIO vi only when value changes?

My design uses NI's TPC-2006 as the user interface for a cRIO-based product. I use TCP/IP to exchange data between the TPC-2006 and cRIO. My code causes the TPC to lock up after a variable number of minutes, typically about 10. The OS is completely locked and requires a power cycle to recover.
Based on the theory that the TPC-2006 is not keeping up with the TCP/IP packets sent by cRIO, I want to try configuring cRIO to transmit only when it has something new to say. The event structure that I use for the TPC-2006 won't work on cRIO. Can anyone out there suggest another approach?

Hi Jeff,
The simplest way to reduce transmission overhead in this scenario would be to encase your existing TCP/IP routine in a case structure that only executes if the data element you're interested in is not equal to its last value (stored in a shift register). This shouldn't add much in the way of computational overhead on the RT side, but should reduce the flood of data if the value doesn't change very often. Keep in mind also that if you have LabVIEW 8, you can use Shared Variables to send the data over your tcp/ip connection only when a new value is written to the variable - this may meet your needs just as well.

I get the erroor message 'couldn't load XPCOM' but only when i try to access my Netflix Desktop App . I have tried unsuccessfully to corect this. My OS is Linux

After the last Firefox update to Firefox 19.0.2, I got the error message "Couldn't load XPCOM" when i attempted to open my Netflix Desktop App, I did not get that error message when starting Firefox only when trying to open Netflix. I thought it had something to do with Netflix so I removed it then reinstalled but the error message continued. I searched and asked questions to no avail. I did a command line search: "locate /xpcom" It came up with a list of files relating to xpcom, only one refering to Firefox itself and they all ended with xpcom.dll. When i did a search in the File folder I found this:
usr/lib/firefox/libxpcom.so .
One of the people trying to help told me this:
"The error is caused by the lack of the path "/usr/lib" in the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Solution
Add the /usr/lib path to the environment variable in this way:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH"
I was informed to do the following:
"Get to a command line prompt (CLP) and use gedit to add that line to your .bashrc file:
your.account> gedit .bashrc
when you're done, just save and exit. Log out and back in, and from then on whenever you log in, it will be in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH for you. You might also want to copy .bashrc to some sort of saved version; I use bashrc.sav."
No change.
I have done a reinstallation of Firefox and numerous reinstallation of Netflix all with no change.
Is there a chance that a complete removal of Firefox followed by a reinstallation correct the problem? i don't want to do that unless it is the only solution.

I was researching the issue you are having and recommend a couple of things. First it might be a good idea to reset the device following iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't quite get the device going again, I recommend restoring the device.

How to refresh JSFF page only when page loaded using ADF 11g

I am facing an issue with prepreModel() usage in the .jsff page fragment. I want to invoke executables only when the specific jsff page get's loaded. I tried using 'prepareModel' as a refresh condition, but I can see always executables are getting executed. Does 'prepareModel' behaves differently for .jsff when compared to .jspx ?

ADF Regions have a slightly modified lifecycle. However, prepareModel behaves the same. Its marking a specific time in the ADF request lifecycle when the iterators are refreshed. Try prepareModelIfNeeded
