Thousands of duplicate favorites

Some how my favorites have managed to duplicate themselves thousands and thousands of times. I just recently noticed this when I tried looking at my favorites in IE11 and it kept crashing. Heres what I did...I cleaned out my favorites in IE and i figured id be good. Then the next day they all came back. I realized then it was because i have icloud installed on Windows PC and they are obviously in the cloud. So i stopped the sync from the iCloud program. Then I went to my ipad and iphone and unselected the safari icon in icloud backup and i deleted all the favorites from both the devices. Then i turned back on the sync through the program and they all started coming back again....can someone help me? how can i delete the favorites out of icloud? I have an html backup to pc so ill be fine re syncing that up. thanks!
I dont have the slighest idea if this happened after the ios8 update or not...

  • How to remove thousands of duplicate emails in Apple Mail?

    Hi everybody,
I know there are a couple of discussions on the web already about this issue, but I cannot find one that clearly answers my question or solves my problem.
I'm working on Lion with Mail version 5.1 and I have a Gmail-account. I have been messing around a bit with IMAP and POP to re-collect all my Gmail-mails into Apple Mail, but now I see that almost every email has 1 to 5 or even more duplicates.
I've tried Andreas Amann's "Remove Duplicates" script, but whatever Mailbox I check, it doesn't work with Lion (yet). I get this error:
There is another script I tried, the one from this page: http://hints.macworld.com/comment.php?mode=view&cid=115625
It just makes my computer freak out, so not OK.
    A third script I found here: http://jollyroger.kicks-***.org/software/
I downloaded the "RemoveDuplicateMessages-Mail.zip"-file and installed it. It does say it finds and relocates duplicate mails from the Mailbox that is selected in Mail:
It relocates all the duplicates to a folder on my Desktop, called "Remove Duplicate Messages". I do find them there, but the mails in the selected Mailbox in Mail.app still show their duplicates! Even when I throw the files from the new folder on Desktop in the Trash and empty it, nothing changes. Not even after restarting Mail. Or my Mac.
So I'm still stuck with thousands of duplicates. Any help on this one?
    Thanks a lot,
    Alexander

I have found a very satisfactory solution to eliminating my duplicates in Apple Mail, which is to stop using it and switch to Thunderbird.
There's lots that I like better in Apple Mail, but Thunderbird is light-years more flexible in managing your email than is Apple Mail, because Thunderbird is an open platform with excellent Add-ons available, which include the nifty Remove Duplicate Messages: http://bit.ly/tbird-dups. It is stupid that Apple Mail hides duplicate messages in the background & won't allow users to search and destroy them. Frustrating!
As a prologue to that, you need the TB import export Add-on: http://bit.ly/tbirdimportexport
Managing my mail locally on my Mac was a huge project for me, involving integrating tens of thousands of emails. Mail was  from gmail, yahoo, and many years of Outlook PST files.
Now that the project is complete, I'm very happy with Thunderbird to manage my email archives. Though I actually would prefer the Lion Apple Mail interface for day to day use, it just isn't flexible enough.

  • HT201812 I have thousands of duplicates. "Show Duplicates" does half the work. Help.

I recently consolidated a couple incomplete backups into a brand new iTunes library on my Macbook Air.
Despite needing to load both collections to cover all my music, there are thousands of duplicate song files in iTunes.
I can use "Show Duplicates" to show all of them in one screen. But Apple's advice was to simply "select the duplicates I want to delete."
Now, I suppose I can take an extra day off work, Press Command and start to click on every other file listed for several hours and hope I don't mess up at any point and have to start over.
But I have to believe in this technologically advanced world, that there is a better way to accomplish this goal.
Please help me dear sweet Internet.

The first thing you should try to fix this problem is to sync your iPhone with iTunes over USB instead of WiFi. If that doesn't work. Delete the music that is corrupted on your iPhone from your iTunes library. Re-sync your iPhone with iTunes make sure it deletes the music. Then, reload the music on, and sync via USB. If none of that works, the only possible solution is to restore your iPhone's firmware.

  • TS4001 iCloud created thousands of duplicate bookmarks

My iCloud account created thousands of duplicate bookmarks.  I would like to delete them all.  Any thoughts on how I could go about this?

  • Consolidation made thousands of duplicates

I have never had problems with consolidation until today. But today I clicked the consolidate button and after about a minute of watching the blue bar, I realised that something was wrong, as I thought there were only about 100 songs or so to move. I tried to Stop, but it wouldn't respond. Finally, when it did respond, about three minutes later, I found that it had copied all other tunes into the itunes folder, whether they were already there or not, so now I have thousands of duplicates.
Could somebody tell me why this has happened, how I can stop this from happening again, and what the **** I can do with all these duplicates. (The duplicates do not show up in the itunes library).
(I have just upgraded to itunes 6.0.4 from 6.0.3: might that have had anything to do with it? )

I'd just like to add a little more here.
All the duplicates are like this: Lullaby.mp3 and Lullaby 1.mp3.
I assumed that I could simply find all the 1.mp3 files with Spotlight and delete them. However, I have found that for some reason the itunes library refers to the 1.mp3 files. Therefore, If I delete them, I would then have to delete all of the library entries, and then find and add all the relevant files from the itunes folder into the library. This is going to take ages, and if anybody has a better idea I'd like to know.
Just as importantly, I'd like to know why this happened, and what steps I can take to avoid it happening again.

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

I thought I had about 20,000 raw images in crw, cr2, nef and tif camera raw formats.
Over the years, I had backups and duplicates scattered about, but each unique image had the same base name... yymmdd_serial#.
So I looked forward to using LR to help organize the mess.
I created a LR database and incorporated my most complete collection, converting all to dng as I went. I ended up with about 20,ooo images.
I then began importing from other sources with similar, but not identical file structures, and with ignore duplicates checked. I was suprised to learn that I actually had about 30.000 images.
Unfortunately about 10,000 were duplicates of two dng types.
    1) Many were copies with -2.dng added to the original file name. This must be a problem with the DNG converter which goes through any directory and simply copies and renames duplicates. These are not too difficult to eliminate with Vista's search for *-2.dng.
    2) Much nastier was the fact that dng files with the same name that existed in different subdirectories were imported and only when I tried to clean up some of these subdirectories in LR, was I informed there were other files with the same name. So I had to use BreezeBrowser to find and eliminate about 5000 duplicate dng files... Now they are not exactly duplicates because many were gererated

That may be a consequence of not being on the forum, but by email or RSS.
I much prefer direct forum psoting, myself.

  • Thousands of duplicate contacts in Address Book

I am running Thunderbird 24.4.0 on Windows 7. I have had the Google contacts Add On installed and activated for a while with no issues, but in the past month+ all of a sudden I am finding thousands (like 12,000) duplicates are certain contacts. It is usually a new to my system email address, and in at least two of the cases is a contact I already have in the system. And it's random - not EVERY new email address does this.
I have searched and searched and found others with the issue, but no real solution or explanation of where the problem might be coming from. Google contacts? Thunderbird? The add-on?
Anyone have any ideas? I know how to delete the multiples and use the merge function on Google -- but the problem is how to prevent it from happening! Not only is it annoying to have 15,000 of the same contact, but it causes terrible, terrible slowness in the auto-entering of addresses when I am writing an email, since the system has to search through so many contacts. Incredibly annoying.
Thanks in advance for the help!

I have that add-on installed and have none of your issues. What Thunderbird version?

  • Thousands of duplicate messages in Apple Mail

On MacBook Pro: OS 10.6.8, Mail v. 4.6, using gmail as a POP (not IMAP) account:
Messages are being duplicated by the thousands in Inbox, Sent, and Trash. This is happening on two MacBook Pros using a single email address. The more we delete the messages, the more appear! We're seeing 1700+ being downloaded as we are deleting from these mailboxes. It's as though we've set up a closed loop between these mailboxes, and the messages are being multiplied exponentially! The downloading stops if we go off-line, but our gmail server Inbox, Sent and Trash don't show unusual activity. When the messages are being downloaded by the hundreds, they are downloading much faster than our internet provider (Telus) can download, so for that reason I believe this is internal to Apple Mail. But how does that fit with the observation that the bizarre activity stops when we go offline?
The gmail account was activated only 2 weeks or so ago, and the problem has occurred only after then, and only with messages on gmail. I had been sending a copy of all outgoing messages to our address by adding a BCC: <our gmail address> so that my wife knows the content of the outgoing messages on her computer. Has this set up the loop?

  • Photos created thousands of duplicates

After setting up iCloud Photo Library on my iPhone and Mac, I realized that I suddenly had 10,000 photos and 400 videos (I originally had half of each). I called Apple and they basically said that my iPhoto Library (where I and most Mac users had imported and stored iPhone pictures) had merged with my phone photo library, and there is no way to reverse the process.
Not only have most of my photos been duplicated, but they are all out of order. Pictures from the night of November 19th show up again on November 20th, for example. This is a massive pain...the idea of sorting through 10,000+ pictures and deleting half of them sounds like an absolute nightmare. I also had to upgrade from 20GB of iCloud storage to 200GB because APPLE doubled my pictures.
At least iPhoto warned you when you wanted to import duplicate photos...now they just do it without even asking you! Who the **** designed this Photos app?
Does anyone know of a way I could easy delete duplicate photos in the Photos app? None of the photo-duplicate-deleter apps I've seen in the App Store can select the Photos Library folder...so I'm not sure what to do. Also, are other people having this problem? How did Apple let this happen?

Fastest solution: restore from back up from prior to when this happened.
This can happen if the HD icon or a system folder is inadvertently dragged to the iPhoto icon on Window.

  • Thousands of Duplicate items in iTunes

  • THOUSANDS of duplicate songs in iTunes. How do I get rid of all the doubles

With the iTunes update I hit the organize my library button and this caused iTunes to find the same songs in several different folders, so that now I have thousands of songs in iTunes with doubles, triples and quadruple copies. Is there a program or setting which will allow me to consolidate my library down to the single original copies of each song. I normally have like 12 gb of music but now I have 27 gb with all the doubles. Hope someone can help.

When you are editing the songs - are you just chopping to top and bottom off? using the start and finish options?
If you do, it might be that for some reason iTunes is forgetting the settings.
You could always create an mp3 copy within iTunes and delete the other.

  • HT2905 Thousands of duplicates

I don't know how, but when i transferred my library from my old pc to my new mac all the songs duplicated either once, twice or three times. And i have many songs, so it would take me forever to delete every song manually. How can i delete all at once?

How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2905
Posts by turingtest2 about different types of duplicates and techniques - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3555601 and https://discussions.apple.com/message/16042406 (Note: The DeDuper script is for Windows)

    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/tunesweeper/index.php
http://www.araxis.com/find-duplicate-files (commercial, free trial) - finds duplicate files on computer, not specifically iTunes
I would do it manually.  As you can see from turingtest2's post, some duplicates are not really duplicates.
I would also review how you add media to iTunes.  It should not be producing all that many duplicates.  I strongly suspect you did not move your library correctly.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.

  • Deleting thousands of duplicates... !!!!

I have just reinstalled Itunes on a new machine & copied my music folder onto the HD. I then added the folder & ITunes helpfully duplicated everything 2, 3 & 4 times? Duh????
The best that Apple helps & even the phone helpdesk could suggest is doing it manually! I have nearly 10,000 duplicates! Get real - who has the time or inclination to sit down & delete them by hand.
I could buy some software but resent having to pay to fix a problem caused by ITunes...! I don't use ITunes by choice, only because they lock you in when you buy an IPod... isn't that what they complained Microsoft did with IE & insisted they were prosecuted for it?
So, is there a reasonable way to delete large numbers of duplicates or is the only way to buy software to solve a problem caused by ITunes? Any recommendations as to s/w?

I wrote a program that I think might delete the duplicates. Whether it works depends on whether those files are identical or not. If the files are in different folders, it won't work.
    Go here:
    http://www.pobox.com/~teridon/itunesscripts/index.html
and click the download button. Extract the ZIP (teridonsitunesscripts.zip) somewhere, and run "teridonsitunesscripts.exe".
In the window that appears, select "itunesremoveduplicates" and click "Run Selected Script".
A new cmd prompt window will appear, listing all your playlists. Select the Library playlist by typing "1" and hit enter. The program will automatically remove the duplicate entries.
The forum TOS requires me to say: "I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link" because I have a paypal donation link on my webpage, but the program is free (donation totally optional).
    HTH,
    Rob

Please help! I have just had to format and reload my PC due to some scrote phishing and putting spyware on it.
I have my music library backed up so all music is OK. I connected my iPod and now I hve 3000 plus duplicates. This means that my library will not go onto my iPod as it is too big.
How can I delete these duplicates without going into each song, delete, are you sure, put into recycle bin, etc.
I have been doing this for the last 3 evenings and am still on 'B'. There has to be a simpler and quicker way.
