Thousands of .DV files

Why does iMovie create thousands of .DV files? I can't open iMovie. There are 5000 .DV files taking up 2GB of space. iMovie crashed. Then I try to open and there's thousands of these files. This is getting very frustrating.

Hi
Can it been recorded in LP-mode ?
This demands the use of same Camera to playback as recorded it - to small tolerances.
If it is a bad tape - I would.
Copy from Camera to Camera vis FW and to a new tape.
BUT THIS NEW TAPE HAS TO BE - Dummy recorded first - ona a wall or just nothing
this put's a continuous timecode on it and will on second recording/copying
mend the eventual timecode breaks on original tape.

  • How to load thousands of data files?

My database is installed on windows, and I have thousands of data files that I need to load. Trying to figure out how to do it without manually editing my CTL file every time I load one data file.
Can you specifiy your control file to load directories instead of just a file?
Or can some looping script be written that makes the changes?
    Thanks!

Don't list the data file in the CTL file ... use the "data=" option on the command line to pass in the data file.
A wrapper BAT file should be easy to create/generate.

  • Combine thousands of .jpg files into a movie?

I've got a few thousand .jpeg image files that I'd like to combine into a single movie.
In the past I've used AddMovie, but it chokes on that many .jpeg files. I've heard that QuickTimePro can do this, but I haven't been able to figure out how.
If QTP can do this, would some one tell how to do so or point me to an explanation describing how to do so?
    Thanks.

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico:  http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie  as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast,  for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 7 onwards from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

  • Thousands of AVCHD files, no way to preview?

As the subject says I have thousands of AVCHD files.  I just bought Adobe CS5 Production Premium.  In After Effects I have no way of knowing which MTS file is which.  In Sony Vegas Pro, I could easily preview them (Vegas Pro shows a thumbnail in the file browser).  I tried Bridge, and no go there.  Is there any way to quickly get a thumbnail or a preview of what each MTS (AVCHD) file is, or am I stuck with having to import them all into AE and then weeding out the ones I don't want?
    Marvin

If you're culling through thousands of files, you'll probably have a better time in the Media Browser in Premiere Pro than in After Effects.

  • How do I convert thousands of TIFF files to PDF while preserving their individual filenames?

I currently have a library of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of TIF documents.  We're going to switch document management programs so I figure this is an opportunity to cut the files over to a more user friendly format like PDF (everybody hates TIF).
I need the filenames to remain the same since this library of files is indexed by filename.
Is there any way to do this automatically?  Manually cutting over each file is not plausible.
    Thanks!
Edit:  This may also be an opportunity to significantly reduce the size of my library, especially if I could make the resulting files "Reduced Size PDF's" compatible only with Adobe X and up.  If converting everything to a reduced file size is possible then that's definitely the way I'd like to go.

If you adjust the printer properties to not open the PDF that is created after it creates it and adjust some of the properties of the Adobe PDF printer, you might be able to set up a batch file to print to the Adobe PDF printer. Been a while since I have done batch files and am not sure what would be required. You might have to define the default printer in the command line to be the Adobe PDF printer and see if that will work with the basic print. The key may be to have a delay to be sure the print process is completed before continuing.
OK, I am just throwing out a possibility. I have no idea if it would work. However, it is a possibility if the batch process from Acrobat will not do the job.

  • How to use md5 Checksums to verify thousands of copied files

    Hello,
So I need to be able to verify the succesful copy of thousands of files using md5 checksums.
is there a program for this or a string of code for terminal?
    Please help.
    Cheers.

I cover how to do that in the link above, but to quickly do this, run the following command on both folder paths:
    find -s ~/Downloads -type f -exec md5 -q {} \; | md5
This will generate a list of md5 checksums for each file in the directory (in this case, the Downloads directory in your home folder, but you can change this to whatever you would like), and then create a summary checksum of the collective checksums.
In my case, the above command yields the following checksum:
    42cf9632cf763cad84c633f0cc7c93bb
Doing this on my Documents folder yields the following checksum:
    782845544f0ecf8a7ae5fa66197d6abd
You can then compare these to see if they are different. In this case they are, indicating the folders do not have the same contents.
Keep in mind this may take a while to run, as checksums will have to be computed for each file in the directory. While this is a raw command, you can save it in a script and then simply run the script with an input argument to make it easier. For example, the following script should work:
    #!/bin/bash
    find -s $1 -type f -exec md5 -q {} \; | md5
Saving this in a text file, naming it something like "dirsum" and then making it executable in a path location such sa /bin (or a custom added path) will make it easily accessible, so you can run the same command by simply typing the following in the Terminal (in this case to calculate a checksum of the Downloads folder):
    dirsum ~/Downloads

  • Accident:  Dragged thousands of jpeg files onto desktop and lexar drive and unable to trash

In a failed attempt to copy thousands of photos from iphoto onto a lexar jumpdrive, I fumbled and somehow managed to drop them onto my desktop and the lexar drive.  Was in a rush to leave and fumbled a bit more not knowing exactly what I was doing and just turned the mac off and back on.  All items that were initially on my desktop disappeared.  Figured out I had those thousands of photos on my desktop (invisable though to see) and also they were "zero" in size. I could view these if I looked at my desktop via a folder on the harddrive.  Being able to do so I gathered up my other items and put them in folders off of the desktop and then proceeded to pull all the "zero" files into the trash.  Got the message that another application was using these and do I still want to trash them - I did so I proceeded with each individual file asking the same question.  After I shutdown.  The next day started up and the files had not deleted.  I decided to put the lexar drive in (had not looked at it yet since pulled it out in the beginning).  That also had files that I am unable to delete.
    help!

I think that I got the problem solved only It was extremely time consuming.  I had 60,000 zero files on the desktop and I selected a bunch at a time, held the control button, selected "move to the trash", answered "continue" from a pop up (told me that they were being used by an application and that it may make the app not function correctly - I ignored that) and continued until all 60,000 were gone.  I am assuming the application it was refering to was the finder?  I then went to the disk utility and repaired the Disk Permissions (not sure if that helped or not).  Anyways, the finder is working fine - so far!
I figured that this same process would have to be done with the jump drive and had not done that let.  You saved me!  I just reformatted that with the Disk Utility and I am back to business!  I will certainly keep in mind the removing of the desktop preference file if this happens again and my curiosity is up wondering if that would have saved a whole lot of mindless hours clicking "continue" 60,000 times.
    Thank you!!

  • Runaway process- HELP! My system is generating thousands of asl files

When I open Console I can see the following process happening continuously:
    13/08/2011 12:58:40.676 sandboxd: ([237]) WebProcess(237) deny file-read-data /Users/*my name*/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/BBCiPlayerDesktop.61DB7A798358575D6A969CCD73DDBBD723A6DA9 D.1/APSPrivateData/052B00379E6AE54ADE7AF005E8D5059Ck.dat
Each of these processes has a paper clip beside it. The paper clip seems to refer to an attached file with a 4-digit name such as 1543, 6062, etc.
WhenI click on the paper clip I get the following type of info:
    WebProcess(237) deny file-read-data /Users/*my name*/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/BBCiPlayerDesktop.61DB7A798358575D6A969CCD73DDBBD723A6DA9 D.1/APSPrivateData/052B00379E6AE54ADE7AF005E8D5059Ck.dat
I can manually delete all of these files but they immediately start accumulating again.
Clearly there is some rogue process going on here.
Is it related to Adobe Air or BBC iPlayer Desktop (or both)? If I delete these 2 applications, will the rogue process stop?

Yes, I had two programs that I liked, that relied on Adobe Air,
But a full year ago I completely deleted Adobe Air from my system because of the constant slowdowns due the incessant logging of transactions.
Any program has the ability to insert a log intry into the system. And if the programmers (Adobe) are either intentionally inserting log entries or creating errors that trigger the systems log, then the problem needs to be acknowledged and corrected or they must go away if abusive—which is what I have had to do on two systems.
    • Re. " Now with Lion, all of those files are invisible and there's a good chance some people won't know about them until their HD fills up and crashes."
         What files are invisible Tom?
The Console allows anyone to peruse all the generated log files, and the library folder is always available to anyone who knows what they are doing by pressing "⌥ Go" from the finder menu. And if one doesn't know what they are doing, I for one, am very happy that Apple gently concealed this folder, like they do (more ridgedly) for all system folders, because many destabilized systems are caused by people playing with Library documents.
Where were these documents located exactly?
And how big were each one of those documents and what was the total size in your case, approximitelyTom?

  • Thousands of individual .txt files being created while using "next available file name" option in Save to ASCII step

I'm using Signal Express to record Load vs Displacement data and export it to a format our engineers can work with (in this case ASCII is okay). It would seem that by selecting the Next Available File Name from the drop down arrow it would do just that. For instance a typical save path for me would look like C:\....Desktop\Project Number and Description\Run_1.txt within that Run1.txt file would be all the data points for that run. When I hit record again Signal Express would (SHOULD) create a Run_2 since it's the Next Available File Name.
But instead what it does is creates a single txt file for every single sample point being read. Needless to say, If I'm recording 6 second of data at 1khz I end up with thousands of txt files!
The first thing that comes to mind is, why would anyone want this?
Second is how can I record multiple individal runs for the same project and have the file name increment?

...and more attachments of the ASCII save path, before and after acquiring 4 seconds of data along with one of the files from that folder.
Again, this is 4 seconds of two-channel spring  plot data at 100 Samples to Read @ 1k Rate (Start Run.... wait 4 seconds or two full test sample cycles... Stop Run).
    ~EDIT~
The .txt file would not attach (I think it's too small). Here's what it looks like if you were to open it:
Load vs Displ - Displ (inches)    Load vs Displ - Load (lbs)
    3.736323                              273.751906
Also, for some reason it won't let me attach my project file. It's a .seproj extension but the forum thinks it's 1k in size and "empty"

  • Create many thousands PDFs from Word files with VBA

    Hi,
I create many thousands of word files from an excel file through VBA.
I need to transalte these word files in pdf files.
How can I do it ?
    Possible in VBA ?
Possible to translate all the files in a directory from word to PDF ?

    Hi BrunoOrleans,
You can use the 'Action Wizard' in Acrobat to convert a folder of word files to pdf.

  • How to organize thousands of files, now in root directory, into subfolders

I'm trying to improve my 20-year-old website, originally created in FrontPage and now modified in Expression Web.
I have about twenty HTML pages accessed from index.htm. Each page covers one subject, and contains internal hyperlinks to many thousands of other files (mostly PDFs). Most of those files were dumped into the root directory.
For the past several years I've been using sub-folders to keep new files organized by subject. I'd like to do the same for the older files too.
I guess the filenames were meaningful to me at the time, but many now seem mysterious. For the files whose subject is obvious from the filename, I've been dragging them to sub-folders in Expression Web. Is there some method in Expression Web that would allow
me to view all the internal hyperlinks from my twenty HTML pages and move them in bulk to my new sub-folders?
I see how to view all the hyperlinks from each HTML file, but it's a jumble of internal and external links, in no particular order, so I don't see any easy way move all the internally linked files, other than tracking them down, one by one. If there's an
easier way, I'd love to hear about it!

I'm not sure what you are asking, but I think the answer is "no".  The hyperlink report is what it is, and there is no way to select files from it and bulk move them.   It should be clear what links are internal, but it is up to
you to find those files and move them to the right folder,.

  • Why do I have thousands of files in my trash?

I rarely delete files, so I'm always surprised to see that there are over a thousand or so files in my trash can  every time I empty it (every few weeks).  Is this some type of automated housekeeping that the system is doing?  What's going on here?
    -Dan

.ipa files (iPad/iPhone Apps) are trashed during sync if an updated version exists on your mobile device. The updated version is then placed in iTunes. It also appears that an .ipa file is not just a sinle file but contains hundreds, sometimes thousands of sub files/folders. The more complex the App, the more files they contain. Athough Get Ifo does not recognise anything more than one file, this may be why Trash is recognising those fies within the .ipa that was sent to Trash.
Could be wrong, but that is how it seems on my Mac.

  • Will thousands of files in an open folder slow down Mac?

Let's say I have the Downloads folder in an open window. Just open in the background as often Finder windows are.
Let's say I have thousands or more files in the Downloads window.
Can this cause a performance hit?

In theory it should not, but some claim that it does when it reaches more than 1500 files in a folder. However, merely having a folder with that many files in it sitting on the Desktop, that will not cause a slowdown. The Desktop is just another folder, now. Having lots of folders on the Desktop will not cause a slowdown until you reach a large enough number of folders. I don't think anyone would have a Desktop like that.
