Thousands of strange Aperture "program icons

I recently installed Aperture 3.3 and I have it integrated with my iPhoto library.  In both libraries, and in my photos on my iPad, Aperture "program icons" appear.  Why are they there and how can I get rid of them?  I've repaired permissions on my iMac.

It took a couple of hours, but I've gone through my libraries and deleted all these strange image files.
When I say that I have Aperture integrated with my iPhoto library, I mean that the two libraries are "synced" or "unified" as described  on Apple's site: http://www.apple.com/aperture/.
When I first opened Aperture, it asked me if I wanted to "integrate" or "unify" my iPhoto library with my Aperture library.  I clicked the appropriate button, etc. and the two libraries were unified.
I think you are correct, Kirby.  Could this have happened when I added  Aperture to my dock?  Might I have accidentally dragged it into iPhoto  right there on the dock?  I seem to remember that dragging it over there  didn't work initially and I had to do it twice.  If that's the case,  and I have now deleted the image files, is my problem solved?  I mean,  if they don't magically reappear, have I messed up iPhoto and Aperture?
And thank you for all your responses... Dealing with a techie idiot like me isn't easy.  Lots of good karma is coming your way.
I *think* my problem is solved, but I'll be back screaming and pulling my hair out if it's not.

Bought the Aperture program. The interface in Japanese. Thanks, very conveniently. Can will prompt how to be switched to English?

Delete the Aperture app you currently have installed using this free utility >  Download AppCleaner for Mac
Then re download Aperture using the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase. You will not be charged again. Before doing so, click the round flag icon bottom right corner of the App Store window. Make sure you see the U.S. flag. If not, click the flag icon so you can swtich to U.S.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.

  • Some Program Icons do not appear in Web Premium Student Edition

    Hello
For some reason the following programs icons do not appear:
    Fireworks
    Flash
    Device Central
Here is a screenshot of what I am talking about:

    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1319897#1319897
This seems like the problem I am having but the fix seems to be for CS3. I have CS4.  I am also running 32 Bit windows not 64 bit.
I downloaded the trials of DW, FW, and Flash prior to purchasing this and they displayed their icons just fine.  I also made sure that all of the programs were uninstalled prior to installing them from the disc.
Any idea how to fix this?  I checked the programs properties and they show the icons but why won't they show it there?
Any help would be appreciated.  Also I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum.  I though this would be fine considering this is about the Web Premium pack.

  • I initially used the swipe gesture to go to the full screen, and since then have not been able to revert to the screen where I can see my program icons. I have reverted to using Firefox. Any suggestions?

When I installed OS 10.7.1 I used the gesture in Safari which displays the full screen. Since then I have been unable to revert this action in order to see my program icons. I have had to use Firefox since then. Any suggestions? Or will I have to wait for an upfate?

  • Black bar over program icon in Dock ?

    Hello
New iMac (2 weeks old) running 10.5.2 (think there was a video update in there somewhere)
I've noticed on 2 separate occasions, effecting 3 separate programs (FireFox and Macromates TextMate and Finder) a black bar covering a portion of the program icon in the Dock, when the doc is magnified. It follows the icon as the dock magnifies and remains after the program closes. It goes away if the iMac is rebooted.
My G5 and MacBook Pro both run 10.5.2 as well and don't have this problem, which leads me to believe its specific to the iMac
I do sleep the computer every night and its only used for side work after hours, so its not on for more than 6 hours at a time ?
Any ideas ? its wierd - I've never seen it happen in using OS X since 10.3 and its not on a program like Mail that can have a status icon over it.
    -Mario

The items on your Dock are shortcuts to the actual items - in this case in your Applications Folder. The transparent question mark means the dock cannot find your iPhoto - because it's not there:
I went into the applications folder to see if I could get into it from there, and now the iPhoto icon (as well as the GarageBand icon), is missing from there.
You need to re-install the iLife Apps.

  • Program icon on the dock + program un-installation

I installed a couple of programs on the pc and some have programs icons on the dock all the time and some do not (only there when you use it). How can I put the program icon on the dock?
In addition, how can I uninstall a program correctly?
    Thanks!

How can I put the program icon on the dock?
When a program is on the Dock, control-click or click and hold on it and choose Keep in Dock from the menu which appears, or drag it to the left side of the Dock if it isn't there already.
In addition, how can I uninstall a program correctly?
Unless you used an installer, drag the application to the Trash. If you used an installer, find an uninstaller on the program's disk or downloadable dmg, or use this application to uninstall it.

  • HT201071 I just downloaded the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.01 to a brand new Aperture program and it WON'T install because it's not recognizing my NEW aperture program.

I have the latest software and operating systems (Aperture, and OSX 10.9.1), and just downloaded the RAW update that Apple said to download, only to have my installation quit because it's saying I do NOT have the right Aperture program (I have the latest....just bought it yesterday).  Does anyone have a clue how to fix this, or did Apple put out that Nikon D610 is compatible when it really isn't?

All fixed!!!  My Aperture wasn't being recognized because it was in a folder.  OK, now I can use my camera with Aperture.

  • Installing Photoshop Elements 8 Changes All Program Icons to PSE Logo

I have a fairly new computer running Windows 7 Home Premium.  I deactivated and uninstalled PSE 8 because it wasn't recognizing my camera(s) when connected to my PC.  When I reinstalled Photoshop Elements 8, all of my program icons chnages to the PSE icon and all were rendered unusable.  When I click on any program icon on the desktop or from the start menu PSE 8 opens.  I deactivated and uninstalled Photoshop Elements 8 and all of the program icons and functionality returned.  I tried reinstalling and the exact same thing happened.  I had to deactivate and uninstall again since I can't figure out how to fix this.
I paid $89 for Photoshope Elements 8 and don't want to buy something else to edit photos.  I also don't want to have to reformat my hard drive to try to make this work correctly.  Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Please try uninstalling PSE 8 using Adobe Clean Script which can be found at this link http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html. After successful uninstallation, reinstall again.
Also do not associate any of your file with PSE when you choose Open with for any file. Let me know your comments.
    Thanks,

  • Samsung Kies 3 and Android-Sync download turned all program icons to Adobe Acrobat Pro 9

I recently installed Samsung Kies 3 and Android-Sync on my laptop running Windows 7 Pro. As soon as the installtion was completed, all my program icons turned to Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, which is one of the programs loaded on my computer, and all my programs tried to open with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, which of course failed. I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, and the problem cleared up. As soon as I tried to reinstall Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, the problem reappeared. I uninstalled Acrobat 9 and installed a trial version of Acrobat XI, and the same thing happened. Any ideas aso to how to correct this problem?

  • HT200165 How can I install my Aperture program to my new macbook?

I would like to install my Aperture program to my new macbook. Does anyone know how this can be done? Apple says that it is legal to do so, but their instructions are full of doublespeak and jargon. Can anyone please simplify the answer?

If you downloaded Aperture 3 from the Apple Store and not the AppStore, then you cannot download it from the AppStore to your other mac. You need the original installer disk image you downloaded. If you did not keep that, download the Trial installer - you can unlock it with your registration key.
A copy of the Trial Installer is here:
    Aperture 3.1 Trial.
    Download the Aperture 3.1 Trial.
Open the Aperture Trial disc image.
    Double-click the "Aperture Trial.mpkg" file.
Follow the onscreen instructions to install Aperture.
After the installation completes, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu.
Install the Aperture 3.4 update from the list of available updates.
Note: If you are using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 or later, you may receive an alert stating that Aperture is from an unidentified developer. This can occur when you try to install Aperture from DVD or the trial download. See OS X Mountain Lion: The app is from an unidentified developer for details on how to successfully install Aperture in this situation.

  • Where are Aperture Library icons stored?

After installation of Mountain Lion, all Aperture libraries have lost their icons. They are completely blank (clicking where they should be does nothing). Clicking a library name shows a gray area where the icon should be. Get Info shows the icon is blank. I found the Aperture library icon in the contents of the Aperture application so if that is where the icon is stored for libraries, it is not being used. I can paste iPhoto library icons in each of my Aperture libraries but it would be better if the libraries had their own icons back. A newly created library also does not have an icon.

The Aperture  Libraries use a generic icon created by the Finder. This icon depends on the kind of the library and is not stored in the Aperture library package. But if you set a custom icon, you will see a file called "Icon?", when you browse the Aperture Library package from the Terminal, for example:
Listing my Aperture Library "Leuchtfeuer" in the Terminal: This library has a custom icon.
    ls -aix ~/Pictures/_ApertureTestLibraries/Leuchttuerme.aplibrary
    769261 .
    5451826..
    769262 Aperture.aplib
    9311240 ApertureData.xml
    769265 Attachments
    769266 Database
    9330718 Icon?
    772295 Info.plist
    5445089 Library.data
    5445085 Library.iPhoto
    5445087 Library6.iPhoto
    772296 Masks
    772297 Masters   .............
Sometimes the icon will not show, if the custom icon file has the wrong permissions. Then the icon should show again, if you delete the "Icon" file, for example:
          rm ~/Pictures/_ApertureTestLibraries/Leuchttuerme.aplibrary/Icon^M
did reset the icon to the default icon.
To enter the path to the icon file, only type "Ico" and then the tab key for command completion. The filename contains special characters, as you can see by the ^M in the example above.
Since all your libraries have corrupted icons, I'd try to repair the permissions on your Aperture libraries or to repair the libraries, before starting to patch library packages however, see "Repairing and rebuilding your Library"

  • Aperture Library Icon gone

I just upgraded to Yosemite and Aperture 3.6 on three different computers.  On two computers the Aperture Icon shows up on the library files properly but on a third iMac, the Aperture Library icon appears as a generic text icon.  The files open in Aperture 3.6 ok, just the file icon is missing.
    Suggestions

I found this to repair MS office document missing icons.
    Is this worth trying?
    1. Close all running applications
    2. Open Terminal and type the following command
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Caches/com.apple.iconservices.store
    3. Terminal should prompt.  Type admin password and hit return
    4. Reboot Mac

  • Strange battery looking icon on my IPod

Hello, I am unable to use my IPod. When I turn it on it shows a strange disconnected battery icon. When I connect it to either an outlet or the USB port nothing happens. I know it has a charge as it has been connected to my computer, my cousin's computer and a wall outlet for more than enough time.
After it has been connected for about a few minutes the open apple icon appears and it remains on the IPod screen until I give up. After an undetermined amount of time the screen goes blank.
    Can you help me?

I'm just trying top determine if the battery is dead for good and if I just need to send it back.
When I connect iPod to the computer via USB, I get a large battery icon (one bar lit)in the middle of the screen with the lightening bolt through it. However, that icon is not listed in the icon list that is available on the Apple site (or at least I couldn't find it). After several seconds it will go to the "sad" icon, then to the Apple logo, and back to the "sad".
iPod is making some noise which sounds like the hard disk trying to work (a consistent clicking noise), but going nowhere.
Beacuse of this, I can't "update" or "restore" the iPod because the computer doesn't recognize it as a device at all.
Troubleshooting doesnt seem to address this secenario.
    Anyone have this same problem.
