Thread grouped in Mail only in a single folder??

Hi, in Lion there is the option to group in threads all the messages related to a single conversation, including trash, incoming, sent, etc...
I am noticing that in iOS there is no this feature but only message of the same folder can be grouped in threads.
Is this correct?
Thanks

  • How do I only show one adressee when sending a group e-mail?

I use ACT database on a PC and would like to buy a Mac but I have one problem. When I send an e-mail to a group, in the "To:" it shows only one person, not the entire group. I work with the media so each editor or reporter thinks I am sending an e-mail only to them which is the protocol in my business. Can I do that on the Mac?
(In other words, I am sending out a news release to 50 editors. I don't want each editor to see that I am sending it out to 49 other editors. I want it to say TO: that particular editor, From: me)
    Gateway

Can I do that on the Mac?
Yes by placing all contacts in the Bcc: (Blind Carbon Copy) field which can be added to the Mail.app message header by default in addition to the To: and Cc: fields.

  • Grouping multiple news items into a single e-mail notification?

    Hi,
We are on EP5 SP6 and would like to know if anyone knows how to group multiple news items into a single e-mail notification.
    Thank you.

    Hi Dirk,
    Thanks for your reply.
We are looking to have newsletter capabilities in the portal.  A good example would be the "Dev Today Newsletter - News Perspective" available from SDN.  Essentially we would like users of our portal installation to choose the topics/news that they are interested in receiving and the frequency and then get that content in a formatted e-mail in the same manner that the Dev Today Newsletter is received.
All suugestions on achieving this outcome are welcome and much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rich

  • Quoting/threading phenomena in mail.app -- due to problems in incoming messages?

    Folks:
    Mail 5.1 on MacOS 10.7.x
I began using Mail.app when I installed 10.7, shortly after the initial release.
No problems with respect to unformatted email or replying to short, trivial length formatted message.  For complex, on-going discussions  I feel that consistent and reliable quoting and threading behavior are essential.   But that is not happening in some cases. I'd like to figure out why, and what I might do to fix the issue.
(Note:  I do not want to get into a discussion here of formatted versus unformatted email.  Both have their pros and cons. Nor do I want to spend a lot of time debating this issue with my correspondents.  As a matter of courtesy, I set Mail.app to respond using the same message format as the original message.)
When I reply to a formatted email,  I notice that mail.app sometimes draws a dark grey box --with rounded corners-- around one or more incoming paragraphs, placing a circled "X"  "close icon" at the upper left.   I don't get it.  To what does this correspond?  Why does mail.app mark-off this text and offer a "close icon"?   As far as I know I'm not doing anything that implies I might want to delete the text.
(Note:  Rummaging around in the corresponding message source, it seems that these boxes correspond to blockquoted text in the received message.)
Editing within one of these boxes is really unpredictable.  Sometimes I can select an insertion point and insert a line-break, in preparation of replying to the text just above.  Sometimes nothing happens. Sometimes I can select text, and cut it. Sometimes nothing happens at all to the selected text.
Mail.app commonly doesn't  correctly increase the quoting level in such paragraphs.  Using
        Format> Quote Level>Increase
to maintain threading history manually is fairly easy since I've defined a function-key shortcut, which works some of the time -- but  the effect of this command is unpredictable.  Sometimes this command deletes the selected text entirely.  (Grrrrrr!)  The workaround I've found is to select smaller chunks of text.  In such cases, this command generally works correctly.
Meanwhile, messages from exactly one person --who uses gmail exclusively-- are displayed in a completely unique threaded format by mail.app.  The entire short history of 5 messages from him are displayed on multiple virtual sheets in one message window, with the latest first.    In one view, clicking on the "see more" link at the bottom of his messages unleashes a cool-looking accordion opening effect and displays my part of the thread. (I guess.  I don't totally understand this display concept.  But it looks very cool and seems to handle quoting and threading pretty well.)
    What's going on?
My best guess is that mail.app is struggling with "inconsistencies" in the incoming messages from different people using various email clients.  I seem to recall reading that email tech specs  are a hodgepodge of evolving and contradictory  standards. Is that correct?   Is that the root of my issue?
Many of my correspondents are non-tekkies and/or non-affluent, and they use whatever email client they can afford.  Some could be using really old email clients.  That doesn't help, right?  Are blockquotes a really archaic formatting measure?
When these problems occur, they can cost me a lot of time and trouble.  It's really distracting to have to deal with portions of the incoming message disappear.
I don't think it is practical to persuade my correspondents to upgrade their email clients.  Some of them have trouble simply setting the preferences to support quoting.   Threading is a difficult concept for a few.
Any suggestions?   Any mail.app preference settings I might try adjusting?  Any add-ins?   Is it possible to tell Mail.app "interpret all incoming blockquotes tags as simple breaks" or strip them entirely?  Or ...?
    TIA

    haavee:
Thanks for your reply on this thread.
And thanks for the confirmation:  Yes, often difficult, and completely unworkable in some cases.
To my surprise, I've been able to find very few people reporting similiar observations.  Very little about this issue at all on the web.
I looked for command-key variations on Format --> Make Plain Text, hoping for a block action, but none I tried was any different.
Here is my current view of the issue:
    • For formatted messages, each email client operates differently.  If there is a standard it seems to be no more robust than "use simple HTML for formatted messages".
    • The "can't insert" issue, as well as those mysterious rectangle-surrounded blocks, seems very correlated with the presence of html <div> sections in the message.  It is awkward to experiment, so I've only done a limited amount.  My observations so far:
-- I don't think you can insert text anywhere "inside" a <div>, and mail.app seems to treat <div> as a "sticky" attribute -- e.g/ very difficult/impossible to remove without deleting the text inside.  The copy-style method doesn't seem to affect <div> tags.
-- Based on one case, it appears that message bodies composed of back-to-back <div> sections are impervious to inserts anywhere. (The email client used by one particular person with whom I've corresponded seems to build messages out of --you guessed it-- back-to-back <div> sections. Putting on my HTML coders hat -- I cannot see any sense at all in doing this. Smells to me like a kludge/hack, as you prefer.)
    • What about an applicable mail.app add-in?  I can find mail.app add-ins, but it seems the  mail.app tech info (API) isn't public, so those that exist are based on guesswork about how it works. This means that add-ins must be re-tooled possibly for each new version of mail.app. Altogether, not encouraging for add-in developers. And, yes, consistent with that the range of functionality I've seen is rather limited.  So, I've given up looking in the add-in category.
    • Applescript has commands for controlling mail.app generally, but I didn't see anything approaching the level of function necessary to remove <divs> by global search-and-replace. (I'm far from an Applescript expert, so it is very possible I missed something.) Nor did I see any general command such as Clean up dodgy HTML in message.  (I can dream!)
The only bit of progress I've had is finding TextSoap: http://www.unmarked.com/textsoap/ which may have promise. But I have had no time to evaluate it and it may be a month or so before I get a chance to check it out.
Looking at the upper right of the window in which I'm composing this message, there's a button "HTML" that lets me see --and edit-- the underlying HTML. On first glance, there's not enough functionality to, say, efficiently clean up all insert-resistant blocks in a message, but it looks practical to clean up individual blocks, and maybe that's all it would take.    Though I imagine that the user base for these forums is not very different from that of mail.app, I'm guessing adding this function to mail.app isn't even a dim possibity.  Oh, well...
I note you are happy with your solution, so I'll try see if a variation of it might help me.
    Thanks,
    h.2

  • How to create a group in Mail?

I don't know how to add names to a group. Mail has a list of all people who have e-mailed me but I can't see it to move names onto the group I wish to create.

Note: if you add an email address to an Address Book member, and you do it by adding a second address called "home", and leave the first one "work" empty, smart mail box won't pick it up, and you'll wonder what's wrong.  If the person has only one email address, make sure there is no empty email address item above it so the smart mailbox will find it.
    Example: (wrong)
               work       Email
    -          home jsmith(a)nothere.com
    Example: (correct)
    -          home jsmit(a)nothere.com
Also: Apple Mail lets your select "Sender is member of Group", to say "Family", but there are no HELP items in MAIL help that discuss or point you to the Address book to deal with groups.

  • Group e-mail problem

When sending a group e-mail, with my new iMac (retina 5K), everyone has been able to see the other addressees.  Checked 'When sending to a group, show all member addresses': this box was NOT ticked.

After not receiving a reply. I decided to attempt a number of work arounds.
The problem seems to be that in the upgrade from iCal 3.x to iCal 4.x, a check was implemented on the e-mail addresses in the alarm field in iCal, and if it did not look like a valid e-mail address iCal defaulted to the top most e-mail in your address book (default). The check is pretty basic in that it only checks for the "@" symbol between two text fields (i.e. text@text).
The work around if you would still like to send e-mail alarms to groups in your address book is to rename them such that iCal believes they are valid e-mails, so that it will pass it on to the Apple Mail program to distribute. If you have a group in your address book called "MyGroup", rename the group "MyGroup@MyCompany", then go to your address book card and insert the new name.
Restart iCal and you can now choose to send an e-mail alarm to "MyGroup@MyCompany" at any predetermined time.
    Hope someone finds this useful.

  • Giving "focus" to a folder in Mail: only with the keyboard?

    Hello everybody,
I've found that in Mail, you can choose a folder with the mouse, but that you cannot activate it, you cannot give it the focus.
When you click on a folder, it becomes pale blue and the arrow keys do not allow to go from one folder to the other. The focus is in the mails pane.
The only way to give the focus to a folder is through the keyboard, using Shift-Tab (or Tab several times): the folder then becomes dark blue, it "has the focus", and the arrow keys allow to go from one folder to the other, or to open and close folders.
This is an interface issue, and is highly unusual. Am I the only one to observe this?
If I am the only one, then I have a bug somewhere. If not, Mail has an interface problem that I will report to Apple, hoping for the best.
Thanks for your input, and Cheers!

    Hello Roger.
What you’ve described is exactly how it works.
Although I agree that this is non-standard behavior,
I have the feeling that it’s intentional, not a bug.
There are other situations in Mail where the view
that handles the keystrokes is what the user is most
likely to want rather than what has focus.
If you have the preview pane visible, for example,
and the view that has focus is the message list, the
arrow keys let you select another message, but the
Page Up/Down keys are handled by the preview instead,
regardless of whether it has focus or not. Only if
the preview pane is hidden does the message list
    respond to Page Up/Down keystrokes.
    Hi David,
I've just discussed the thing rather extensively with an ex-senior scientist at Apple. I think that he is right - as you are -, this is intended behaviour.
Whether it is a good idea or not is a different matter however. Apple's keyboard commands have never been as complete, or precise, as Microsoft's. Remark that this is not a compliment to Microsoft whose interface is at times simply terrible! But here, it's not the keyboard command policy that is not systematic, it's the response of the mouse. And this I find very surprising. I have 51 mailboxes in Mail and the more control I have, the happier I am, that's for sure!
On the other hand, what surprised me is the fact that the mouse does not respond in the same way in, say, Mail and iTunes. In iTunes, if you click on a "folder" (they call them playlists, which is fine, but this is about the same as a folder is it not?), not only you select it, but you activate it: you give it the focus plain and simple.
Look at Font Book: here also, you have what a power user is waiting for: clicking on a "folder", or a list or group, you give it the focus plain and simple. Idem in Address Book. iPhoto also, but then it's the tab key behaviour that's strange.
I can see from here programming teams clashing over points like this one. I would greatly prefer that Apple's applications adopt a predictable behaviour from one app to the other.
"Behaviour by design", all right. I will nonetheless send to Apple what we could call an "enhancement request".
    Cheers!

  • When sending a group e-mail I no longer can prevent other recipients reading each others e-mail addresses

Since downloading OS10.91 Maverick I can no longer send group e-mail messages without others in the group reading each others e-mail addresses.  This is dispite the fact that I have ensured that the relevant box under PREFERENCES is not ticked.
    Can anyone advise please
    Many thanks

This is a bug that many have posted about. The only workaround at this point is to add your group to the Bcc field, where individual names and addresses will not appear to recipients.

  • Sort by Thread in Evolution Mail

    Hi,
I am using the Evolution email client and want it to sort my mails als follows:
    - Mails should be threaded.
    - Threads should be sorted by the most recent mail within this thread, descending.
    - Mails within a thread should be sorted ascending.
Does anyone know how to do that?
    Best, steve

When you set it to sort using "From", all that is supposed to happen is that it will sort all the senders in the message list alphabetically, either ascending or descending.  You can toggle that back and forth by clicking on the little black arrow head right next to "Sorted by From".  It does the same thing if you sort by Subject------it just alphabetizes whatever is in the Subject line of each message.  If you are right-clicking on a message in the list to bring up the menu, it doesn't matter which message you use.
Try using Group by>>>>>From.  You will see that it will actually grab all the messages from a sender and put them in their own group to make them easier to find.

Please Help. I received 4 emails from 1 person with the same message heading. The emails were automatically grouped Apple Mail. I replied to the latest mail in the conversation. Once sent the other messages in the conversation disappeared. I NEED THEM BACK! They all had very important attachments. I have tried looking for them in deleted items, even though I didn't throw any of them away, still cant find them. Never had this problem before. I'm pretty sure its a setting somewhere. Also tried expanding all conversations, no luck. Searching for the mails under the sent email address, no luck.
I'm sure they are not deleted but have somehow been hidden by Mail. Very frustrating.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Kash.

I have found found out what has happened. I had requested a statement dating back to April 2012 from a supplier. They replied back with the latest statementof 2013 only but used the same subject heading as the previous monthly statements. Apple Mail automatically grouped these and I thought that they were sent altogether. As soon as I replied to the last email all other the previous emails ungrouped from the conversation leaving me lost as to where they had gone. They were all still sitting in my inbox but no longer part of the trcked conversation. I searched under the subject heading and all individual mails were all still there. (feeling stupid - )

i am unable to open any links on any mail messages. thhis includes any buttons, such as view or buy when on a group on mail for example.

So I'm not Mary Frances.  I'm her husband who is force to deal with this opaque and obnoxious equipment (iPad).  With the iOS 7 update she could no longer follow web links by tapping them in an e-mail (it did work from a web page).  After an hour of web searching, experimenting and rejecting the offer of an answer from apple help for only $20, I found that, if in settings/safari, you turn off the "Do Not Track" button, the ability to follow links in an e-mail by a tapping is magically returned.
Flash! I just went back to the ipad and turned on the "Do Not Track" button -- just to test my discovery.  Predictably (by my cynical myself) you can still open a link in an e-mail, so I don't know what's happening/happen.  But I'm not surprised.

  • Unity Connection Voice Mail Only- NO MWI template

I am deploying a site with 8,000 mailboxes.  4,000 of those users are voice mail only without a telephone and will NOT require MWI.
I can manually remove the MWI setting from each mailbox, but I am looking at either a BATCH CSV setting or a TEMPLATE that I can turn OFF mwi when creating the users.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

    Hi there,
This setting change is available via Bulk Edit
Bulk Edit> Messages> Disable MWI functionality for this user
Bulk Edit changed in 8.x from where it was accessed in 7.x.
Here's a clip that speaks to how this is run now. You first search and select all
    the users you want to change and then choose Bulk Edit;
To Edit User Account Information in Bulk Edit Mode (some editing from original > this example
is for Caller Input settings but you'll see the point)
Step 1 In Cisco Unity Connection Administration, on the Search Users page, check the applicable user check boxes, and select Bulk Edit.
If the user accounts that you want to edit in bulk do not all appear on  one Search page, check all applicable check boxes on the first page,  then go to the next page and check all applicable check boxes, and so  on, until you have selected all applicable users. Then select Bulk Edit.
Step 2 On the Edit Caller Input page, change settings as applicable.
Note The  Status message at the top of the Edit Caller Input page tells you how  many user accounts are being edited. Also note that the page is  populated only with the fields that you are allowed to edit in bulk  mode, and that the fields available for edit also depend on whether all  of the user accounts reside on the local server.
Step 3 If applicable, set the Bulk Edit Task Scheduling Fields to schedule the Bulk Edit operation for a later date and/or time.
    Step 4 Select Submit.
Step 5 If  applicable, continue to change settings for these user accounts on the  related pages available from the Edit menu. As you make changes on each  page, select Submit before going on to the next page to make additional changes.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/user_mac/guide/8xcucmac090.html#wp1049545
Try a couple of test users first to come up with the exact plan.
If you prefer you can also use Bulk Edit via .csv
    As a test here I tried the Bulk Edit and chose;
User with Voicemail > Users referenced in this CSV file > Next
This then allowed me to browse to an existing "basic" .csv that I had
used to create a test user recently when playing with BAT. In this .csv
I had one user named Bob Uncle with DN/ext 5126. So when I used this method
the Bulk Edit tool (smart puppy ) selected only Bob Uncle for my edit choices
and I was able to change the Disable MWI functionality for this user
Again, please try manipulating some test users to perfect
    your methodology.
I have attached the test .csv I used
    Cheers!
