Thread Scheduling Visualizer - take a look

Hi,
I want to share this link with all the sun forum members.
It is about "The Sun Java Real-Time System Thread Scheduling Visualizer"
[http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/realtime/reference/TSV/JavaRTS-TSV.html]
Sun you are simply too great ;)
thanks,

Hi,
Glad it worked for you too. I'm so grateful to 'turboontheovens' for posting this solution, it was driving me crazy!

  • Installation of the Thread Scheduling Visualizer (TSV)

    Hi,
    I've already written some realtime applications and now I want to monitor them via TSV. I've downloaded RTS 2.1 with TSV and installed RTS 2.1. I guess TSV isn't installed yet (command "drecord" is not known by solaris). So I think TSV is inside the file "threadsc.gz", isn't it? I've already extracted this file, but still I don't know, how to install TSV.
    I've already read the TSV Guide, but there are only very poor informations on the installation of it.
    So can anyone explain to me, what the name of the TSV installation file is and how I can install it on Solaris?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Gordon:
    TSV can be downloaded when you download the Java RTS 2.1 eval on
    Solaris; just to be clear, TSV is based on DTrace (a Solaris specific
    tool), hence it's not available for Linux. When you go through the Java
    RTS 2,1 eval download process for Solaris (either x86 or SPARC version),
    you will see the TSV download link listed on the final page (after having
    taken the survey and agreeing with the eval license) -- it's the same
    page as the one that also lists the Java RTS 2.1 eval download link.
    The name of the TSV bundle on that page is "tsv-1.2.tar.gz". All you
    need to do to install this is to unpack it.

  • Can you please take a look at my TM Buddy log and opine on what the problem is?

    Pondini,
    Can you please take a look at my TM Buddy log and opine on what the problem is?  I'm stuck in the "Preparing Backup" phase for what must be hours now.  My last successful backup was this morning at 7:16 am.  I did do a series of Software Update this morning, one of which, a security update I believe, required a restart.
    I'm confused as to what the issue is, and how to get everything back to "it just works".
    Many thanks in advance.

    Time Machine can't read some data it needs from your backups (each of those date-stamps is one of your backups).
    That's usually a problem with the drive itself, but could be the directory on it. First be sure all plugs are snug and secure, then see if you can repair it, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
    If that doesn't help, post back with the results.  Also either tell us what kind of Mac you have, what version of OSX you're running, or post that to your Profile, so it's accessible.
    This is unrelated to the original post here, so I'm going to ask the Hosts to split it off into a new thread.  Since you've posted in the Lion forum, I'll assume that's what you're running.  You should get a notice from them

  • Thread scheduling problem in WLS5.1

    We use a Timer Servlet to schedule some back end tasks, however we found
              that from time to time the thread scheduling often get delayed or ahead in a
              outragous magtitude.
              We run the servlet inside WLS, and right after start up, the timer works
              perfect, but after long enough time (more than one day), the timer started
              to behave weird. It could get delayed for as much as hours, and then
              suddenly fired up all delayed tasks in a very short period of time. We then
              try to run a very simple Timer doing only wake up every 10 minutes and print
              one line, that failed too. We are running WLS5.1+sp3 on
              Solaris2.6(Generic_105181-19 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10) with jdk1.2.1_04.
              BTW, we found that it ran well on NT, at least for three days without
              problem.

  • Workaround for some W510 Audio Problems. Lenovo, please take a look at this!

    Hi all
    I believe most or all of the people are affected with poor sound quality of W510. I do believe there are some people who bring their laptops along and not convenient to get a external sound card and external speakers on the road. I am not too sure, but what I think that causes audio problem in W510, T410 or T510 is due to the implementations of Combo Audio/Mic Jack. So far, I have not heard any audio problems from X201 or W701/W701ds with a separate mic and audio jack (1 green and red, instead of 1 combo) Listed machines are using Conexant 20585 SmartAudio HD Sound Card.
    The workaround is to force install Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD Driver through Device Manager
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73721
    Problem Partially Resolved
    1. Using Audio Director - Classic mode enables you to use both internal speakers and external speakers/headphone simultaneously. (By right, this should be in Multi-Stream mode, due to this driver not programmed for W510). However, the volume of the internal speaker will be reduced by half if an external speakers/headphone is plugged.
    2. The sound quality is improved (tested with internal speakers).
    3. Solved Irregular Volume Problems.
    Drawback of using this driver
    1. Using Multi-Stream mode in this case would not enables you to use both internal speakers and external speakers/headphone simultaneously. However it would just make your internal speaker to be louder. External speaker/headphone would not work if Multi-Stream mode is selected.
    2. Custom EQ is not usable, if used, only the right channel of internal speaker, external speaker/headphone would work, and the sound quality will be like a spoilt radio.
    3. Only Voice (VoIP) EQ is optimized for external speaker/headphone. Using Off, Jazz, Dance or Concert EQ would make you feel that the vocal (singer's voice) is diffused, blurred like excessive 3D effects.
    4. Even if any preloaded EQ is selected, after system has been restarted, the selected EQ would still be saved, but the band (31Hz - 16KHz would be changed back to Off EQ) It is ok as it just affects the graphics, not the sound.
    I know that Forum Administrators, Lenovo Staff, Community Moderators, Gurus and Volunteered Moderators/Users would be surfing around and looking for new post. Please take a look and leave a post or PM to me, thank you very much.
    It is alright if Lenovo don't think that there is any problems regarding the sound in W510. However, I do believe most users/owners of W510 would appreciate if the sound system could be further improved through a better driver or new revision of hardware to something like a T400 standards or something. Some users would spent so much $ just to get all-in-a-box solution and would not want to invest further just for a external card to sacrifice portability and use more $. Finally, I still do believe that W510 audio problems can be resolved.
    Best Regards
    Peter

    Hi ckhordiasma
    Thanks for reviving ths old thread. How about trying Dolby drivers? It sounds great and could possibly resolve those issues without going through too much troubleshooting.
    The link is under my signature.
    Hope it helps!
    Happy 2012!

  • Thread Scheduling Query

    Hi,
    If i have 3 messages A, B and C which are in a queue and are to pass through a synchronized method Y . A particular thread X picks 1 message each from the queue and spawns a thread for each of 3.
    A is executing Y and B and C are in BLOCKING State and waiting for A to finish so that they can enter Y.
    Is it possible that C executes first before B.
    Pls advice.
    Thnx in Adv
    Amandeep

    Setting a thread's priority is not the preferred solution namely because it is dangerously inconsistent. The only time to use thread priority is when you have tasks that do not have scheduling conflicts like this and you really don't care when a particular thread runs. As an example the garbage collection thread in a VM is normally a lower priority thread until such time that garbage collection is needed.
    The preferred solution for thread scheduling and order of executing issues is to revisit the design.
    In the example given by the OP I would first question the use of multiple threads at all. It seems that the OP wished tasks to be executed from a queue in the same order as they were added to the queue and that tasks later in the queue should not finish execution before ones earlier.
    This does not seem a good use for multiple threads because this requirement seems to call for anything but parallel execution.
    But perhaps I am reading too much into that statement. I would suggest a revist of the design though to look at doing the following.
    Launcher thread
    1) Gets next thing from queue
    2) Calls synchonized Y method (that no longer needs to be synchronized probably) using thing from queue
    3) Starts new thread with results from Y
    4) Go back to 1
    This design garauantees at least that the launcher threads will be started (and past the synchronized method) in the same order as they were received.
    Does that mean they will complete execution in the same order? No. Does it mean they will actually start processing in the same order? No. But it does mean they will call Y in the same order and since I would guess that is the real issue here it solves the problem.
    If the threads really must finish in the same order than one must consider either; not running seperate threads as I mentioned earlier or adding a semaphore at the end of the spawned "worker" threads so that they wait for previous threads to finish before exiting.

  • PieroF - Can you please take a look at M.Mantovani's RT problem?

    Hi Piero.
    M.Mantovani seems to be having problems with FCE 3.5 on his MBP.
    I suspect he is new to FCE. As a fellow countryman and expert with FCE I think you would probably be his best helper.
    Could you take a look at his problems please as I have run out of ideas!

  • Can someone take a look at my project and give me ideas to reduce lag/optimize it? (relatively new to flash and need help)

    Dropbox - TV_AL_Q
    I really need to reduce the lag happening in this project. I know practically nothing about action script except for what I've used in this project so please keep that in mind.
    Im going to try and break apart the grouped art so its in its most basic form and see if that helps, and also change all my tweens to frame by frame since those two things helped me with an animation I did awhile back that was lagging severely.
    But I was hoping someone with more knowledge could take a look and see if there is anything that they know of that I could do to help fix this. I'm working in Flash cs6 and using action script 3.
    I have to turn this project in by this Friday (the 20th) so I would love to get this sorted by then but even if I can't I would still be interested in some possible solutions, just for learnings sake.
    Thanks.

    Thank you for yet another cryptic reply, remember I'm the idiot here who doesn't understand this stuff so please can you explain things in a little more detail. Thanks.
    I am using the JW Player setup assistant and it lists two types of code
    The "Embed code" and the "swfobject 1.5 code" but not an Object/Embed code that you mention.
    This is the code that the website is telling me to use.
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/embed/swfobject.js"></script>
    This text will be replaced
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var so = new SWFObject('/embed/player.swf','mpl','480','270','9');
    so.addParam('allowscriptaccess','always');
    so.addParam('allowfullscreen','true');
    so.addParam('flashvars','&file=http://web.me.com/nathmac31/Flash/WaineWeddingHD. swf');
    so.write('player');
    </script>
    My movie does play on through the player on the JW site, after about 30 seconds of waiting for the picture to appear. When I cut and paste the above code into my webpage, I don't get anything. I have dropped the "Player.swf" and "swfobject.js" files into the folder containing the contents of the page that I want the player to appear on.
    Where is the exact best place to drop these files?

  • Weird behaviour of getText() ...!!!! PLEASE TAKE A LOOK!!

    Hi.
    my problem is that i have two forms named JF_ChangeAP and DisplayTree. Suppose that JF_ChangeAP has two string variables named XMLFile and ElementDesired... I try to set the value of these two variables from the form DisplayTree(after i've created an JF_ChangeAP object,of course)... Take a look at the following code :
    CODE THAT WORKS:
    ShowAncestorsFrm.XMLFile=this.txtFilePath.getText();
    ShowAncestorsFrm.ElementDesired="Logistics_person";
    CODE THAT DOESN'T WORK:
    ShowAncestorsFrm.XMLFile=this.txtFilePath.getText();
    ShowAncestorsFrm.ElementDesired=this.txtElementDesired.getText();
    (ALTHOUGH I TYPE Logistics_person in the TextField!!!!!)
    I am going crazy...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    When i debug the value of the ElementDesired in the JF_ChangeAP object is Logistics_person!!!! But it does not work! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! .......WHY??!?!?!?!?!?!?
    Thnx in advance Guys.!

    your code convetion is arkward..it's hard to tell what is a class and what is an object. you should try not to declar your variable public
    MyClass.myVariable = ""; is not a good idea..and not object oriented (you broke encapsulation)
    since your listing is vague and confussing, i can't really hel you debug your problem. although i'm thinking it's a reference problem..check to make sure you have pass in the correct reference..etc.
    also make sure you created the textfield correctly..
    for example:
    public class Form1 extends JFrame{
        private JTextField textField = new JTextField(10);
        public Form1(){
            JTextField textField = new JTextField(20);
            // this is wrong..your textfield declared above is not the same one
            // as you add to the frame..so when you call this.textfield.getText(),
            // you are geting the text from the textfield of the instance..not this
            // local one (which will be displaying in the Frame)
           this.getContentPane.add(textfield);
    }check to make sure the reference to the objects are correct.
    you should redesign your application: here is an example
    public void Form1{
        private JTextField txtFilePath = null;
        private JTextField txtElementDesired = null;
        public Form1(){
            final Form2 = new Form2();
            txtPath = new JTextField();
            txtElementDesired = new JTextField(10);
            JPanel panel1 = new JPanel();
            panel1.add(txtFilePath);
            panel1.add(txtElementDesired);
            JButton = new JButton("Submit");
            button.addActionListener(new ActionListener(){
                public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){
                    form2.setFilePath(txtFilePath.getText());
                    form2.setElementDesired(txtElementDesired.getText());
            JPanel panel2 = new JPanel();
            panel2.add(button);
            this.getContentPane.add(panel1, "Center");
            this.getContentPane.add(panel2, "Center");
        public String getFilePath(){ return txtFilePath.getText(); }
        public String getElementDesired(){ return txtElementDesired.getText(); }
    public class Form2{
        private String elementDesired = null;
        private String filePath = null;
        public void setFilePath(String filePath){
            this.filePath = filePath;
        public void setElementDesired(String elementDesired){
            this.elementDesired = elementDesired;
    }

  • Take a look at what Aperture can do!

    I`d like to have the ability to view pictures like the way it`s possible in Aperture:
    - Realtime loop even with RAWs
    - compare images side by side (Aperture puts as many images as you want side by side and btw. in a much more elegant and faster way than you can do it in PS)
    - more speed! Compared to PhotoMechanic Bridge is extremely SLOW! Thumbnails come up maybe 10 times as fast in PhotoMechanic. And if you want a jpeg or a contact sheet from a RAW file it`s nearly realtime while Bridge/Photoshop is working for ever.
    As much as I like Adobe products, but Aperture has blown me away in terms of its user interface. Just take a look at the lighttable and the ability to stack pictures.
    Stefan

    I got really excited by the features ofered by Aperture and seriously considered buying a Mac just to use them. A shame they screwed it up so incedibly badly in other areas. Still showed how primitive and lacking the Bridge interface is though. Still the best [in many ways] of a ropey bunch though.

    When I send emails using my iPad, some recipients are telling me that I am sending them blank emails.  I've had some of them forward the emails back to me so I can take a look and it seems that my message is actually there but the text is white.  Interestingly enough, I was a Windows user just a few months ago and I was on the receiving end of this same problem with someone who was sending emails from her iPhone.  I don't believe it is happening every time but if it happens even once it's a problem.  Any idea what's going on?

    Oddly enough, having reported the problem it appears to have fixed itself. There may be some combination swipe gesture that triggers it is all I can think because I suddenly manged to zoom my display x3 by double tapping three fingers. Took me a while to sort this out but then when I got back home I could suddenly see all my emails again. Bizarre!
