Three-and-a-half newbie questions for iTunes...

Hello,
I just signed up with iTunes, for the explicit purpose of subscribing to, getting and listening to podcasts.
I have three quick questions:
1. When I subscribe to a feed in iTunes, it's quite possible that I only get the most recent podcasts (i.e., one podcast is up to episode #70, but I only got #30-70 in the feed). What is the best way to add (in this case, episodes #1-29) to my podcast library in iTunes?
2. When using other, 3rd party podcast directories (like podcastalley, podcastdirectory, etc., is it relatively easy to subscribe to the feed using iTunes, or will iTunes only subscribe to feeds that are listed with the iTunes service?
3. Can I assume, because the files are actually on the machine, that - if I have iTunes installed on two computers, none of the information is transferable? Obviously, the files would need to be moved, but the subscriptions also need to be re-established?
3a. Assuming I did re-subscribe to all the same podcasts on the second computer, but, rather than "getting" the old podcasts, I simply copied them from one computer to the other (same folder) - is iTunes intuitive enough to see that those podcasts are actually in my library on both computers, or do I have to go through downloading the podcasts a second time to get them listed in the library?
Thanks for your help!
Chris

Hello,
1) I understand the feed may not have those podcasts listed any longer. If I visit the website, however, I can see that the older podcasts are still housed and listed there (but the feed may not include them any longer). How do I get those older podcasts into my iTunes library? Do I just download them and drop them into the iTunes folder in "My Music."
3) Which is correct - if I subscribe to the feed, but then, I copy all the downloaded podcasts onto the other computer (in the same place in "My Music" - will iTunes see that those files are there, and reflect that in my library?
Thanks!

I have a Macbook Pro 15" that is three and a half years old.  Although it has slowed a bit, it still runs well and runs every program I need. Any tips for how to keep this old computer running well and in good health?
I have a 250 gig drive and try to keep at least 100 gigs unused at all times, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory, back up with Time Machine and CrashPlan, and have OS X 10.7.3.
This was my first Mac since an old Apple II GS.  After that I used PC's and got really good at reformatting, replacing drives, reinstalling, defragging, resolving software conflicts, etc.  Since switching back to Macs (five in my extended family now), I haven't had to do any of those things. So, although, the cost is three times as much, the aggrevation has been ten times less.
I'm retired and living on a fixed income and would therefore like to keep this computer running as opposed to constatntly upgrading.
    That said, any tips?
    Thanks
It does have a crack on the left of the screen case about 3/4'' up from the bottom.  I've posted that as another question.

Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior.  Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Adding more RAM, if feasible, and a new, faster hard drive may also help pep it up a little.

I cannot find the answers to my security questions for ITunes and cannot figure out how to reset the questions.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

We have 4 Iphones and one Apple id (used for ITunes). Since upgrading to  IOS  6 on my phone, I now receive ALL the text messages destined to the others! What should I do to get back to "normal", without opting out of Imessages or FaceTime?

I'm afraid I may abuse of your generosity here, but I do have another question (that's the reason for the mistaken category of the post you answered). My daughter just arrived in her International Student residence in Europe yesterday, where internet's only available by Ethernet. She wishes to reverse-tether, from her PowerBook to her Iphone (because of the cost of using Internet on her phone over there). I found some instructions about Internet Sharing, in System Prefs, etc. "From: Ethernet, To: Airport" Enable Internet Sharing, and all...She did everything, by the book (or so, she thinks) but nothing shows on her Iphone Wi-Fi Settings when she tries to connect... I also read that it could be done with a Bluetooth PAN, but I got lost, as I tried to follow the instructions here at home, after pairing computer and Phone, with a "rude" message appearing on my phone telling me to "forget that device". Can you help?

  • TS1424 How do i reset the security questions for iTunes ?

I have forgotten the answers to the security questions for ITunes .what to do?

If you have a rescue email address set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address set up then go to Express Lane  and select 'iTunes' from the list of 'products' in the middle of the screen.
Then select 'iTunes Store', and on the next screen select 'Account Management'
Next choose 'iTunes Store Account Security' and fill in that you'd like your security questions/answers reset.
You should get an email reply within, I think, about 24 to 48 hours (and check your Spam folder as well as your Inbox)
